I brought my Tohatsu 9.8 in several years back for routine maintenance. Nothing really wrong with it just was due . Had him replace the water pump and grease it and make sure carb was tuned up. At low idle it had always ticked over just fine. When I got it back it would quit at low idle...it took me a month or so to finaly pull it off my sail boat and bring it back to him. When I did he couldnt remember who I was! Demanded I produce the receipt, which I had to go back to my house and get. After two more tries and several hundred dollars more he never was able to stop it shutting off at low idle. I will never take a motor to him again.

I had my boat in their shop in AUG 2014. Estimate $600. end up paid $1000.To rebuild carburator, replace water pump and footing seal and seals. A week later the carburator leaked gas have to bring the boat back under warranty. I used my boat 3 times since less than 4 hrs. July 2015 the footing seal went bad water spaying out at the seam and got into my footing oil. Stay away from this shop. Or to be sure get a written estimate, because they will tell you more things are wrong with your boat.
