Great food and great ambiance. Problem is, staff does not seem to be happy working there. I rarely get a cordiality back, and not thank you after purchase.I really like the food, so that is a plus. I try to stop by once a month (as I am in th area) but each time I am left with a confused experience. I appreciate the nostalgia and food overall.

Came here for brunch after morning errands. Got one entree each, a guava fritter (not pictured), an Ube donut, and a large iced moka to share. Food came out pretty quick and there was a decent amount of available tables outside for dining. The parking lot is not very large and some folks double parked in the lot while going inside to pick up their take out orders. Made it difficult to pull out, which would be my only complaint about the whole experience. Would come back again if I were in the area.

If you are in San Mateo, California near the Marriott hotel, you should try Apple Fritter. This is a small place that has a steady line. Parking is limited and you may have to park down the street and walk to the store. Its well worth the walk and have very good apple fritters. They also have great brunch items as well as good coffee.

This is a great place for a casual brunch or breakfast and all of their food is absolutely delicious! Of course, ordering the apple fritter is a must- although I could probably finish it myself, I would definitely split it amongst at least 2 people.- Ultimate Pancakes - my favorite sweet dish here, I absolutely love bananas and walnuts- it’s just so yummy and the pancakes are fluffy.- Brunchuritto - perfect combo of meats, veggies, eggs, beans- I love it!- Cheesy Fries - irresistible! Even the bugs tried to eat this one last time I came here haha- Chorizo Scramble - was really stuffed after this one, a full plate of food with a yummy hash!Come Again? I already have :P This is one of my fav places for a yummy down to earth meal.

The strawberry rose cake donut was pretty good. There was a little bit of crunch from the crumb coating and the donut was moist and flavorfulThe breakfast burrito with chorizo was eggy and cheesy, not much going on texture wise, just a soft tasty food log in a chewy tortillaIm not a big fan of the fritters, the one I had was really oily and heavy

Solid breakfast spot. The doughnuts were good. the matcha and ube flavors were subtle, but the doughnuts itself were soft and not too sweet. The fritters were DELICIOUS the Guava was my favorite one. They were a tad sweet for my taste, but as sweet as a normal fritter would be.Breakfast flavors were good. My only issue was the cashier didnt seem like he was having a good day. I asked a couple of questions and was still deciding but he seemed a bit impatient and short with his answers.Outdoor seating was nice. Gotta get there early if you want to find parking in the lot. After about 9:30/10am the line gets long. So be prepared to wait. Had a good experience over all and a place I would go back to.

This breakfast place was perfect for our brunch on Sunday morning. it was pretty busy but we easily found a table and ordered our food. I ordered the instagrammawich and it was delicious. The hash browns are not as crunchy as I like but it was still a great meal. They had hot sauce available as well as ketchup on the tables. The atmosphere is very fun and the place was busy so it seemed very popular. The donuts were delicious! The donuts were so large it seemed like they were two donuts in one going. Great price point for the Bay area. They have outdoor as well as indoor seating. It is self-serve and self-clean up. Overall the food was absolutely delicious and we had a fun brunch outing!

Food was amazing and delicious! This is my 3rd time coming here and again I’m not disappointed. It’s a self serve type of setting and a open, shared sitting. The chairs are metal and it’s usually cold. They want a in and out type of place so they don’t want you to be to comfortable. The people that work here seem to have little to no personality or maybe they just weren’t awake yet. But the food is amazing. Let’s face it restaurants in the Bay Area can be snobby because no matter what they will make money. Bay Area doesn’t need to have customer service we are lucky enough to get good food. So here is to a place that has good food! That’s it! :) enjoy

The line was very long (10+) the whole time we were there, and the wait time to get food was a while, but the food was ok. My husband got the mango jasmine frozen smoothie and it was delicious! The combination of flavors was so nice. I got the Hawaiian burger lettuce wrapped and garlic fries on the side. It was ok, the lettuce was really good, crisp and fresh. The worst part of my meal was finding a short black hair mixed in with the burger meat and cheese (see picture) after I already ate half of it. We got tater tots on the side and they were great, crisp and flavorful, better than the garlic fries.

My first time here, and I really like this place. Theres plenty of parking and outdoor seating for 10 or so groups of people. Indoor seating is more limited, plus they close pretty early at 2pm.I got the Instagrammible burger and it was a solid lunch. Its almost as messy as the Pacific garbage patch (#banplastic), but this cream puff of a burger was for sure enjoyable. I would definitely come back for breakfast, lunch, etc. and maybe even to do some work. Pretty solid food, but not my favorite.I like this place as the service is quick and the aesthetic is definitely nostalgic. Additionally, their donuts and pastries are fantastic. I would recommend their frozen drinks (mango is my favorite) and the lavender vanilla latte as well. Next door theres a car repair shop where you can usually see two AE86s if youre into the Japanese car scene. The food, i must say, is a little underwhelming. Very good pastries and it has the impossible burger. I was impressed by the food. The price is a bit high compared to other pastry shops.Compared to three years ago the food is still pretty good but the prices dont really reflect the experience any longer. No one except for the lady upfront was nice. I waited for twenty minutes to pick up food while it was ready in front of me. I tried to say hello or flag down people multiple times. One Hispanic guy maskless ignored me. One other white guy maskless looked like he wanted to kill everyone in the room also ignored me. One masked Latino guy in the kitchen told me to keep waiting. Finally after twenty minutes I got the single sole front lady to pass alone the food. I agree with earlier reviews no one is happy to work here. I wont be returning I suggest most of you guys to order delivery if you want to support this place to avoid the terrible people who work here. Props for the lady doing all the work.I dont agree they need more staff. The place is tiny. They are overstaffed. I have no idea why the anger or indifference. Thank you for the memories. Great place for breakfast/brunch/lunch in San Mateo. They serve fresh food cooked the way you want and good coffee. The bonus is their fresh donuts and fritters. Grab some to go after you are done eating your healthy food The atmosphere is homey and unrushed on a weekday morning, busier on weekends. Lots of outdoor seating for small and large groups but some seating is in full sun. Not a lot of ambience around the place -- its on the edge of a neighborhood thats mostly commercial. It serves a clientele that arrive in cars and when its busy the small parking lot fills up and can be tricky to navigate.

I love this place! To start, its made fresh to order (so there is a little wait). Vegi friendly options, and creative dishes. I got a cheeseburger (I rarely eat meat now, but I was craving), it reminds me of what it was like to order a cheeseburger as a kid. Meat patty was an actual meat patty, nothing like the tiny patties you get at other restaurants, crispy lettuce, and just enough grease drip with each bite. It was worth breaking my vegetarian ideal this one last time. Thank you!!!!

Food was fine (at this point I didn’t care if it was good or bad anymore, I just wanted to get put order and not waste the rest of my morning) but does NOT warrant such a ridiculous wait.Tip for next time: order a really common dish so that it (hopefully) comes faster.
