Friendly and welcoming! I loved how they greeted us and gave us great recommendations based on what we typically drink. We ordered a cider and a sparkling rose which we both enjoyed as we walked around Ghiradelli Square. They were kind enough to even say if we didnt enjoy either that they would find us something else! I would love to come back and try their cheese and charcuterie next time Im in the area.

Loved this place! Stopped in after walking around the bay. Kept it simple with a grilled cheese and a glass of wine. The blend of cheese was superb, and the California wine was superb. Lovely views of the bay, definitely a relaxing experience. Staff was friendly, and I loved the cheese shop inside the restaurant! Wish I could’ve taken some for the road (I don’t think the cheese would have made the cross country flight home). Highly recommend for any cheese lover looking to relax.

I highly recommend getting their meat & cheese board! I was hesitant to order it at first, simply because I was skeptical that it would be enough for for the price. However, it did not disappoint! The accompaniments were paired very well, it was all quite tasty. Their grilled cheese was also very flavorful, especially with the tomato soup on the side. The only thing we didnt like as much was that we couldnt get much info out of our cashier while we were trying to order - we wanted to know the portion sizes of a few items, but we werent given any helpful answers. She also made it seem like the meet & cheese board would be smaller, and that the sandwich would be much bigger. So that wasnt really true. Overall though, the food was great and the staff was very friendly!

My onion soup had so little cheese. For the price they are charging, I was hoping for a bigger ball with lots of cheese. The pork sandwich was very good but naked. Once again, for the price it could have a small side. The service was nice but the items are so overpriced.

I had the cheese tray which was incredibly well-balanced. it had three kinds of cheeses one hard one medium and one soft. It also had some other nice pieces of baguette and some dried fruit and other things which balanced out extremely well and paired nicely with the red wine I chose.theres also a classroom upstairs to take classes related to cheese. In addition, the staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful.

Great selection of food, cheese, and wine. Extremely pleasant, friendly, and helpful staff. Not sure which cheese to get? Someone will be happy to help you decide, including giving samples of the many varieties on hand to help you make your decision. Theres a restroom for customers inside, but its a small, one person at a time space. Seating inside is sightly limited, but theres plenty of room in the square out front. If you get a seat inside, the view is pretty darn good, sitting above the street, looking out towards the water.I did not attend one of their specially cheese aficionado classes, just bought some cheese and bread, but would definitely consider it, given the range of topics they had listed over the next month or so!Did I mention their great staff? They have awesome staff on hand!

Ive been there for the first private dinner they hosted. This was a magical experience. One cheese is arranged in three different plates (appetizer, main course and dessert), and it is matched with wine. It was so good! The chief and the owner were talking about the cheese, the recipe and the wine before each part of the meal. It was totally worth it and I highly recommend this whole experience.

If youre a cheese lover like me, theres nowhere better to learn about cheese. The class we took part in was extremely informative and tasty. The cheeses were great quality and extremely tasty. They sell all of the cheeses in the shop as well as a whole host of other cheeses from around the world. One of the best things about this place is that you can really feel the love they have for cheese and it shines through in everything they do, from their presentation, to the sheer amount of knowledge they have and the enthusiasm youre met with if you ask a question.

I have a newfound love for cheese after attending a cheese making class with Louella the Milk Maid and The Cheese School of San Francisco. It was hosted at Stable. Louella is a great teacher, and all the Cheeses School staff also know all you could possibly want to know about cheese. Cheese making is not as complicated as I expected. Its mostly about temperature and timing. I would definitely try to make some at home after this great class. What a fun experience!

I was interested in this place as soon as I seen it. My husband and I took 2 family members here. 3 of us ordered the grilled cheese with tomato soup and 1 ordered the Mac and cheese. The tomato soup wasn’t bad but honestly we weren’t big fans of the grilled cheese or Mac and cheese. I felt like I could have made way better at home. I love small portions of food but we didn’t feel like the price matched the food. I would go back to drink wine and eat cheese but I wouldn’t order any cooked food again.

Very small menu with a Cafe style of ordering. The food only took 10 min to arrive at the table and I was pleased with my macaroni but not overly impressed. The water supplied was warm and didnt taste good at all.

Hidden gem! Very cool place to come if visiting SF, you get to taste really good cheese and learn how to describe/identify which is which. When you first walk in, you enter a little green garden/patio scene where you can enjoy a cold beer. Then you go into the cheese school looks very Californian. Come here if you want the Cali feel.

A nice compliment to Ghiradelli Square offering a wide selection of wines, cheese and other fine foods. My family and I visited the store around 2pm so it was a little slow and pretty empty but still plenty of visitors touring the shop. We ordered a charcuterie plate with a bottle of complimenting vino.Service at the counter where orders were placed was just okay. The staff wasnt very friendly and seemed uninterested in anything outside of taking orders. The staff that brought our food to our seats were very friendly. The food was wonderful as was the wine. We had an awesome view of the square and could easily loose track of time with the tasty foods, complimenting wine and spectacular view of the bustling square below.

Cheese boards not good for keto... For those that this would help, the cheese boards are not good for keto as they have a majority sweet pickles, dried fruit, boozie raisins, and bread. 5 small cuts of cheese and 8 small thin sliced cuts of meat. Quality is excellent, but only about 1/8th of the cheese board is keto friendly...usually an easy choice for me, but not here.

Im a cheese making novice (as distinct from cheese-eating) and I learned a lot very recently at a cheese making class taught by the milk maid herself. The Folsom street location is truly excellent, right next to Leila B and Stable Cafe. Making mozzarella is a way to turn your knead-y side to good use! Its encouraged, not viewed as cheesy, to take home your results. They have an awesome pizza oven, there could be a pizza class in my future. Im now officially a cheese snob!I havent been too adventurous on my cheesy adventures throughout life. Ive only gone as fancy as brie & halloumi at Trader Joes and what not. However, I planned to rectify that situation! The Cheese School in the Mission District has cheese and/or wine classes for the cheese connoisseur & the layperson, like me. I was fortunate enough to attend a Cheese 101 class during my trip to San Francisco, relishing in each stinky bite.Cheese plate (clockwise from top - Valencay, Brillat Savarin, Landmark Creamery Anabasque, Uplands Cheese Pleasant Ridge Reserve, Rogue Creamery Caveman Blue)-Who knew how technical cheese could be? I learned rind classifications include wrinkly & bloomy. I critiqued the subtle (and not so subtle) differences between pasteurized cow milk, pasteurized goat milk, pasteurized sheep milk & raw cow milk. And, I savored the mouth feel of hard/semi-hard to soft cheese. My favorite was the soft Brillat Savarin cheese. With a fat content of at least 75%, the cheese was buttery with a nutty component. Utterly decadent. My second was probably the Rogue Creamery Caveman Blue. Smelly, strong, moldy - just like good bleu cheese should be. We were informed of the supposed origin of bleu cheese, in which a guy forgot about his cheese because he was enamored by a pretty lady. When he got back to the cheese, mold formed within the cheese..........and the rest is history!AccoutrementTo cleanse our palates between bites & to serve as vehicles for the cheese, plates of crusty bread, crackers, slices of nectarines & some very delicious champagne-infused raisins were available to partake of. Sparkling water served as refreshment.Service was great! Kiri Fisher, proprietor of The Cheese School, conducted an easy to follow cheese class, where anyone can acquire the rudimentary knowledge of a cheese monger.Parking via metered street parking. The Cheese School of San Francisco is located on the right & back of The Stable Café.Say cheese! The classes at The Cheese School are a great way to spend an evening, sampling cheese, perhaps sipping some wine & learning something new or advancing your current understanding of cheese. All the cheese we had were top quality & I now know what to look for when Im at the cheese section of my local grocery.Highly recommend!NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM
