June 22, 2016On June 18, 2016, 30 minutes before the store closed, I entered the Armani Exchange store at Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego. My initial intent was just to browse. To start, I did not get a simple hello or welcome to the store from any of the employees. I browsed around for 10 minutes, picked out some shorts and still no acknowledgement from the 4 sales associates the store had working that night. Three female employees were busy talking in Spanish, about their plans for the night and their busy lives. Finally, I heard from one of the sales associates call out to me,, “can I started a fitting room for you?” The sales person offered to come back and check on me. I waited for few minutes for the sales associate for that help that had she had offered. I decided to come out of the fitting room and search for different sizes myself. I thought, I will let it go and forget about the bad service.I ended up purchasing some swim trunks and shorts. Turns out, I had mistaken the price of a couple of the swim trunks that I purchased that night, and decided to return the items the next day. As I entered the store, I felt this annoyed vibe from the sales associate/manager who helped me that night with the return. His welcome back, in a very annoyed tone was, “Whats wrong with these?” I said, just changed my mind, the price is a little to high for me at this moment. He took the three items back, the one I had paid with my credit card. The second Item was purchased on my debit card. The sales person/manager kept telling that the credit card was declined. Which makes no sense for a return. I called Chase Bank, and they cleared, stating that everything was fine on their end. I suggested to the sales person ( the guys with glasses and mark on his face) to give me cash back if he was unable to put the refund back on my debit card. He said, “no I cant give cash back on a credit card”, I told him that it was a debit card, which clearly is printed on the card. After that exchange, he called me a liar about the debit card I owned. He still refused to take my return. I kept waiting for a solution to resolve the problem and even suggested from the sales person for me to comeback the next day.I Told him that I was a returning customer from years ago. I told him that I stopped buying Armani exchange products because I experienced poorly-made merchandise quality with previous items. His response was “I dont make the merchandise.” Is this how an Armani Exchange employee stands behind the Armani product? I dont care who makes the merchandise all I expected was, a fast return with no silly questions asked. This sales person possible manager, was rude and very unhelpful. I am not fishing for a discount or anything else. I can tell you I am definitely not returning as customer. I have worked in retail for nearly 20 years, most of those years serving in management, so I have strong understanding of effective customer service. I share this experience with you merely as feedback for your company. Based on my experience at the store, I am not sure the Armani Company really cares about feedback and customer service. When I got home on Sunday, I reviewed my bank statement and discovered that the employee who handled the return actually charged me again for the returned merchandise, instead of issuing me a credit. As a result, I have now paid for these items twice!
