All homebrew needs in 1 stop shop. Grains, hops, yeast & equipment readily available. Full grain & extract brewers should visit this spot. Lots of beer merch available: shirts, hoodies, beer signs, skateboards, koozies & stickers. We (2 adults & 3 kids) sat out back, had chips & salsa and tried a few beers. Only water available for kids so plan ahead. Jason served us & was very helpful, checking on us when our glasses were getting low. Victory at Sea is bomb! Hay-C is a Hazy that is only available at the HBS; super delicious. Watermelon is weird but worth a 4oz try (think watermelon jolly rancher). Tried the black is beautiful, was pretty good. All in all a good experience.

This place was awesome! It was my first time visiting as a new home brewer and they walked me through the whole process and helped me get each item and explained each thing to me and how all the stuff works. Everything was fairly priced and theres a wide variety to choose from. I highly recommend this stop, especially for home brewers!

Cool place, but don’t go if you’re new to brewing. I patiently waited 15 minutes to ask a question about a regulator and the guy seemed really annoyed that I didn’t already know what I wanted. I then asked a second question and the guy just replied “I don’t know what kind of set up you have” he then mumbled behind his mask and proceeded to go help another customer. I ended up just buying my supplies from Amazon (which was cheaper) even though I like to support small businesses.

Thanks to the Super cool staff member answering every question that we asked. I feel empowerment to create greatness in beverages with guided knowledge given out that soon we shall be drinking the Drink of the Viking Gods. MEAD. Thought that this was just going to be the Home Brew store but was pleasantly surprised to find that this location also has a fantastic tasting room as well as a fully stocked gift shop full of Ballast Point swag. No food at this location so definitely head for the Little Italy Ballast Point brew pub if youre seeking that kind of experience.Had a flight of 8 beers between two of us. At 4ozs each that adds up to quite a bit of drink so we stayed awhile and did some shopping between beers. The guy behind the bar was very knowledgeable and gave us alot of info to help select our beers. He told us that this location is in fact the original Ballast Point brewery which the owners started 20+ years ago while selling supplies to local craft brewers. Eventually they ran out of space and relocated the brewery to Miramar, but they still brew some small batch beers at this location.Had a great time. Only negative is the scarcity of parking in this neighborhood. There are a few spots in front but otherwise youll be cruising up and down the side streets looking for an open space.

We stopped by Ballast Point on what has been dubbed IPA Day for some special releases of different infused beers. It was totally packed and no extra bartenders were on hand to meet the massive rush, so that wasnt ideal. Otherwise, we had a great experience. Their space boasts nice murals, ample seating, a wide selection of merchandise, plenty of taps to sample, and all of the goodies you need to brew on your own. A rotating roster of food trucks parking out back make it easy to grab a bite with your beer too.

This a great spot for a cold beer and several selections are only available here. This is the original Ballast Point. Ask them for the story behind this start up. There is lots of bench seating so chances are that you will make a new friend. There are about 35 brews on tap at all times. Parking here is very limited, but with some patience it is well worth the wait. No food is served here so bring something or pick it up in the center right beside them. There is also a store selling all kinds of Ballast Point goods and all you will need for home brewing.

What a hidden gem! Most people will think of the large tasting room in Little Italy when someone says Ballast Point Brewery, but the original location offers a great experience! This location may be smaller and close earlier, but you simply have to give it a try!

This place has come a long way since it was the only home brew shop south of the 56 in the mid 2000s. I really like the redesign and the beers brewed on site are amazing. Theres a reason the company is being sold for a billion dollars. Ill be interested to see if the homebrew part of Ballast Point sticks around post transition. Great place to get your ingredients, your keg or your tasting done. The parking is a disaster since its a few spots in a strip mall. You can usually find a spot during the day, but merely one open most times.

Ive been shopping at Home Brew Mart for over 15 years since I started homebrewing. Their selection is great, their prices average moderate to high. For the starting out home brewer my advice is to always not get sucked into buy too much gear. Honestly home brewing is simple as boiling sugar water and sticking it in an airlocked jug to ferment. Just like cooking, good pans dont make you a good chef. Hone your craft first and then expand as you need to. Spend the money on good ingredients. As a tasting room, Ive been a little disappointed with the direction this place is heading. It is definitely gearing more towards a tourist destination and tasting prices have risen 50% to double what they used to be. Pint prices are more expensive than a bar at happy hour (granted you can get to try some one-off weird beers). But I cant fault Ballast Points quality. They are consistent, ubiquitous, and a good value.

Their Home Brew Mart location always has great beers, friendly staff, merchandise, and some of the most knowledgeable brewers on hand to answer your questions. Very difficult parking. Always a challenge in the weird lot. Tons of IPAs, which is great if you like hoppy beer (not my cuppa). There are decent other choices (some good porters and a nice cream ale), but i think their love is reserved for the IPAs. Tuesday is really loud and unpleasant if you arent playing trivia. Nice window-side tables, and nice intimate barrel tables for two or four. I will include a parking photo - bring your small car! Oh, good free wifi, but only a few tables have plug ins. I have been here several times. Within one location are both Home Brew Mart and Ballast Point. Im only going to review Home Brew Mart.My friend and I started making home brew. We bought starter kit #3 and wanted to make a German Amber Ale. We listened to the sales guy as he is a home brewer too. Awesome guy, although I forgot his name. The customer service was great and we were told if we had any problems to just call since everyone there is a brewer. Well we had a problem and it was solved within 1 minute. Our 1st batch was a success. We bought 3 fermenters to accelerate production at my house. They have grains and dry extract. Im not sure if they have liquid extract though. But anyway, there are many types of grains to choose from. It smells like grain when you walk into the Home Brew part. They use Whitelabs, a San Diego based company, as one of their yeast providers. Hops seems to sell in high volume and so does their yeast and extract. Youll never gt anything old there.Im not too familiar with pricing since Im new to brewing, but it seems high. I am starting to buy some of my stuff online like the Carboy fermentors.

As a homebrew shop it is quite horrible. The supply choices are very low and the prices are very high, especially versus other local homebrew stores. The prices here are unrealistic: a basic brew kit for $200, whereas same thing is $100 on Amazon. Even the Ballast Point beer here is $1-2 more expensive than at my local 7/11. Come on! Negatives: Very pricy on some ingredients; expect average prices or higher.Sometimes the guys are friendly, sometimes they make you feel like you are bothering them - this really sucks.Parking can be a problem if it is very busy and especially if you dont drive a compact car.Positives: Good selection.Knowledgeable staff, but this only counts if they are in a good mood. They make awesome beer that you can taste while you shop for homebrew stuff. In summary, I keep going back to homebrew mart when I am in the area, but I usually buy from Morebeer or NorthernBrewer. When I am nearby, the positives outweigh the negatives, but there really is no excuse for bad service, especially in a homebrew store.
