We went to west marine to purchase supplies for a trip to Mexico on our sailboat. We purchased a dingy and the sales person on the floor was very helpful. They have a good amount of stock on hand and we were able to get everything we needed. The prices can be a bit higher so shop around and compare.
They definitely have just about everything you need for boating. Just dont go there without knowing exactly what you need. Tried to get a tune-up kit for my Yamaha 150. But couldnt get the parts guy who was standing there doing nothing to help me look up what oil filter plugs and oil I needed. Told me I need to look it up myself and then come to him with part numbers. So I put the handful of things I had I was going to purchase back and figured Im just going to get them on Amazon if I got to go do my own research and cant get help from the parts department. Very disappointing
This place is rad. If you like to be outdoors, fish, water sports, are a boat owner or just a Californian period ...this place is highly recommended. Something for everyone. Even cute apparel!!!
Nice place. They have low prices and more expensive stuff, too. Great, convenient place for fishers.
Friendly, clean place. Staff is helpful and very active. Good job guys.
Nice one stop shop for the majority of your boating needs! Good service ! & nice parking for an area with usually not so nice parking.
They seem to always have the items needed last minute and staff are great.
Very helpful staff even witnessed the male version of a Karen throw a huge hissy fit ripping his shirt and yelling and cussing out the cashier and the entire time that cashier completely kept his cool was as nice as could be and was completely professional unlike the grown man throwing a hissy fit like a 2-year-old child
This is the place to go if you need anything fishing or boating related the staff are super friendly and helpful.
Always fun to roam the aisles, very helpful staff
Decent service from the parts desk and friendly staff. They have recently lost some of their experienced staff so at times it can be hard to find a well informed staff member.
So, I needed a simple 30 amp - 15 amp adapter. I had gone to home Depot and they were out of stock of the normally $6.00 item. I asked if they knew the closest place to get one and they said West Marine but it will be a lot more expensive. I thought time is money but I was shocked 😲, $72.00? I left and drove a bit further to a Walmart and found it for $6.00. I dont think i will be going back to West Marine anytime soon.
A hole load of fishing stuff that my friend buys from different fishing geer a mens dream store. Everyone was helpful and pleasent.
They got pretty much everything there from rods/reels to clothing attire. One thing they lack, I noticed, is a variety of multi-purpose utility knives. Yes they do have some from top brands like swiss... Buuuuuutt not nearly enough to choose from. Other then that ZERO complaints. They literally have everything a small time and long range fisherman needs/wants.
Bill in electronics doesnt answer. I was put on hold twice for him. NEVER answered my call. I think I will give San Diego Marine Exchange a shot the next time I wanna spend $1000 on electronics....
Awesome store, very helpful staff Rolly is very patient and knowledgeable. They are not cheap and have so much stuff I didnt know I needed it a dangerous place
I remember West Marine well stock is everything a boater would need. this store is no Nut and Bolt in stock a lot of ementy bins really a sorry thing to see
If you are having to find the correct Chain size for your windlass stop by and speak with Carol in the Rigging department. She knows her stuff, super helpful and experienced.
Bill in electronics was patient and helpful. Thanks Bill for your time.
Great service, the new location is huge and has everything you need to get your boat going. Very impressed, I highly recommend going there.
Very clean courteous and polite people working in the store.
Great place great stuff
Great selection abd fair prices
Amazing showroom and selection friendly helpful people.
West Marine is never my first choice based on price and product options and as usual lack of employees knowledge of merchandise in stores .. Yes I have been a customer on the Western seaboard and Gulf coast all the way to Marathon Florida
Stopped in for fishing tackle ended up buy a nice weather jacket on clearance. Nice
Have a great selection
Great Selection of boating items. Over priced on most items.
A good spot for fishing gear. Selection was 7/10.... Service is 5/10.... Spoke to a young guy about reels which was a bit painful. Seemed like he didn’t want to work there. Felt like I was talking to a stoner. Not quite sure I will return. I’m also not entirely sure why loss prevention was following me around but it may have to be due to me being heavily tattooed. Anyways, I picked up what I needed and left. Going to say that it’s a good chance I won’t go back.
Great inventory, helpful staff.
Found one of the trailer lights I needed but not the other.
Called to talk to electronics, was put on hold twice with no response.
Service was good typical expensive boat store but thats the price you pay to play lol
Went here for fishing supplies, in terms of tackle its not a wide selection
I love this place. Its pricy but you can almost always find what you need .
Great store. Well laid out and easy to socially distance.
Usually has what we need but its always overpriced.
Some criticise WestMarine for being too boutique and not industrial marine enough. They may be right. But, that is by Design. They serve their intended purpose and go beyond with deep discounts and price matching your local industrial ship chandlery. They are open far longer than the competition, and there is no better place to purchase a gift for your friend that just bought a new boat or boat owner birthday. West Marine knows their customer and they serve them well.
The Costco of boating. Love it.
Incredible selection! Very helpful staff. Everything you could ever need for your boat is in this store. Dog friendly, too!
I like the place got everything for boats 🚢 but I was looking for some stuff for my kayak and they dont havent...They tell me to look at the web page and I found wat I need tanks to the staff for help me ..
Bought an outboard motor. Nice people, one of the guys that helped us had no idea and told us untruth about hot the motor runs. Going back to current situation.
Awesome store! Everything you need, well stocked, reasonable prices and a cool and helpful staff.
Great products and okay service.
Great people, super helpful, always supportive.
Zero customer service, youll be lucky if you even get eye contact or a hello from anyone here and on top of that, expensive.
DISCLAIMER: Prices are high! BUT, at this location, there are several extremely knowledgeable sales staff. They have a wide variety of quality parts and equipment. Sale pricing is usually fantastic. Plus a really great return policy. If you are looking for a bargain, go somewhere else. If you are window shopping, or need the right part right now . . . this is your place!
Awesome spot for all your marine need. The manager Jim is so helpful and friendly go check them out
Awesome marine store I frequent here at least 3x a week for my business. Top selection and if they dont have it in stock they can get it fast. Excellent customer service and great people.
NO WORRIES MATE! EVERY DAY
Went In there looking for some trailer marker lights and found a lot more: shoes, clothing, ropes, gear, radios Etc. They have everything you need for boating.
Probably one of the best West Marines on the Coast. Very knowledgeable employees at this one and they have the biggest selection of all the other locations. If you havent been to west marine yet and you own a boat. You need to come see this store.
I attempted to purchase a stand-up paddleboard in the store, but they were sold out (website said in-stock). The staff told me to call in a week when their next truck comes in, so I waited to buy this birthday gift confident that the information provided was true. The next week, the truck came in...no boards. I went home and found one on the West Marine website in stock, so I ordered it. The next day the order status changed to “Fulfilled by Vendor” and said “tracking information not available, please call.” The first time I called, I was number 145 in line, and it took 5 hours for someone to call me back; but I eventually learned that the board was coming from Santa Barbara. A couple days passed...still no shipping info. So I went to the actual store and asked them to track my order. They were very nice, and they tried, but the store is unable to help with online orders!!! So I called again...this time I was number 176 in line. 176! When I finally got a call back, the nice lady said Santa Barbara had refused my order and they were trying to locate one to ship. Remember the birthday I was trying to buy this for? It’s LONG gone. I cancelled the order at this point, and I think it’s safe to say I will never buy so much as a keychain from West Marine again. The people are nice, but the information provided by their website and computer systems is just downright false, which means the information the nice people give you is also probably false. To their credit, they offered me a $25 gift card, but I won’t be needing it as I am done with West Marine.
Man i got in and out, people were great it was really pleasent going there.
West Marine has never been a low priced market. The WM store off of Rosecrans in San Diego has fairly good stock of marine essentials and the store advisors are well informed. Went in today for replacement zinc anodes and received assistance in checking all the stock only to find their inventory records were incorrect. One WM advisor gave me the contact info to order what I needed, with out needing to pay for it the until delivered and picked up.That allowed me to keep searching for another source in the meantime. Helpful, “ Golden Rule “ type advice.
AWESOME store. Great inventory and incredibly helpful staff!
The best West Marine I’ve ever been to. They have the biggest selection of boat stuff. The riggers do a fantastic job as well.
Awesome place with knowledgeable staff
If youre at the b and you need something for your boat fishing supplies etc this place has it!
Very pricey
Good marine supply though their nuts and bolts selection, which used to be extensive, has less than half the stock it had previously. There is more and more clothing. Clothes have a higher profit margin but I worry they will go the way of Radio Shack when it became pretty much a cell phone store - again higher profit margins, but then theyre competing with cell phone stores and they mostly stopped carrying stuff for the geeky people who came in for relays and resistors. I go to West Marine for rope, stainless and grade 8 fasteners, high tech resin systems, and quality marine electrical parts, and maybe while Im there I see some clothes or sunglasses I like. But if it wasnt for the extensive but dwindling set of marine supplies, I likely wouldnt go in. I certainly wouldnt go in if I was just looking for clothing. I can get clothing, even nautically inspired clothing anywhere.
I was here for a short time to purchase a pair of body glove 3T max footwear after calling first to verify that they had the item and my size as well. After being informed that they indeed did have the item in question I proceeded to go there that afternoon to make a purchase. When I arrived I was met by an enthusiastic staff member who insured that I got what I came for. As I tried on the footwear I noticed that this shop appeared to cater to the water crowd: from boat parts to paddle boards. Everything in the store appeared to be organized to facilitate quick locating of items that people may want to purchase. The place is fairly nice size with adequate parking.
Well organized and supplied. Always feel welcomed and satisfied.
Love the selection of merchandise and sales folks are wonderful
Open and not crowded. Able to get what we needed.
Great service and the prices are considerably less expensive as their local competition.
I don’t own a boat. If I did this would be the place to go for all my boating needs. I do have a account with West Marine because I’m a General Contractor, and they carry the best stains and varnishes for residential homes, much better quality than any average paint store brand. UV protection and high quality hard finish! Also the clothing in this place is awesome !
Always great service.
There really is no comparison. If you need parts and want to look at them, go here. I have bought many stainless parts and this is the go to place for this, cheaper than Home Depot for what you get. Other stuff you can get most times online cheaper but when you need it now or know what you are getting, there is no better. Also they have a warranty on pumps and stuff that is unparalleled. If you need a pump and the boat part is for salt, get the warranty. No questions asked return policy. This is the peace of mind you want and need!!!
It is the elite place for parts and has turned into a high-end sports clothing store. I buy clothes there and parts only when Im in a hurry. There are plenty of other marine stores around the area that are more reasonably priced.
Had outstanding service in the rigging department from a young rigger, I believe Ian. Went above and beyond to help with my goals. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Prices are quite high, but they do have a large inventory. Staff are very helpful. Probably the largest selection of “on the water “ clothing you’ll find anywhere.
They have almost ever for boating.
Check Amazon 1st woe 😂😂
Found lots of goodies in there that can be used in an RV. They also have a great selection of casual clothing.
Large store that is more of a clothing- fishing store than a boat store. Good selection of stainless fasteners. They seem to be out of things more than they should. I think the store had nice employees, but lack great management.
The only place in San Diego to get true marine varnish for your wood doors and windows. With the new CA standards, the type of product sold by Home Depot or even specialty paint stores is polyurethane only and much less durable. The only hitch is that marine varnish is very expensive (think $50 a quart) but it will last likely at least twice as long as what you can buy elsewhere, and if you are using painters, labor is easily 80% of the cost, so you are still coming out ahead. Your expensive wood doors will also be better protected. And as a bonus, got Patagonia gear at half price that can be returned if it doesnt fit the lucky recipient;) Very knowledgeable staff, easy to locate in the store.
Love stores like this, I can always find something thats cool too have for home, business, sports and even gifts for my people. Service is exactly what most want from a business who we give our hard earned dollars to. Also picked up online products here with excellent assistance from employees.
I have a membership here and its worth every penny. My dad recently purchaed a lake boat, we there just last week getting supp.
They have most everything you need for boating and fishing very good staff guality products
Very nice store. You can make your own cables here. The prices are a bit high but the service is good. Bit to much like a department store than a hardcore marine store.
Nice staff. Very helpful and friendly. Prices a bit high.
These people are rude with high prices. You hate to ask them questions. I liked the other store up the street from there. The people were nice and caring. Get some new staff
Good selection. Some items more pricy than they should be. The marine version of Frys. Hard to leave without throwing some Benjamins at them.
Friendly staff but corporate joy,so that takes away a bit. Souless!!
Love this store great sales everything you could possibly need for just about anything. Great staff always feel-good When shopping because they have great music piped-in. Did I say great staff did I say great staff. Happy camping? Boating Etc
The best West Marine store in CA, maybe on the West Coast. Outstanding service from the store and the atmosphere is unique.
I understand its Friday 7mins till closing, the how can I help you and do you have a question were like verbal attacks then I get escorted to the item I wanted the employee takes one off the shelf and hands it to me and then another and another, I was like I only wanted 2.. then I got escorted to the cash register I guess to make sure I left.Honestly if I could get the items I wanted somewhere else I would, I felt like I wasnt welcome and they didnt want my business.. I was in and out before their closing and would have been without an escort..
Great service but pricey!
I bought a new portable radio at West Marine San Diego and was very pleased with the help I received from employee Rolly. He is very knowledgeable, very helpful, encouraging and very polite. He made it very easy for me to learn all the new features and even help me add my MMIS. I am very thankful.
In late June, Rolly in the fishing department helped me prepare me for a sailing trip to the Sea of Cortez. He is a true fish whisperer. I caught so many fish I was feeding a number of other yachts. He is a great asset to their store. He couldn’t have been more helpful.
Their staff are very knowledgeable and can point u in the right direction quick.
I was not able to use points for a purchase. The store employee indicated I would have to contact 1-800 xxx to make arrangements to use my points. No manager came to assist. Its as if I have $40 in points but I will never be able to use them. Both employees indicated the west marine system does not function well. No problems with the clerk, just that west marine technology is incredibly poorly designed against the consumer. There are other boat insurance companies, boat emergency service companies and marine supply companies. I will probably use eBay or Amazon for future purchases. I always try to buy local, but not like this.
My experiences with the staff have been all pleasant. Deducting one star because West Marine is an incredibly expensive retailer, there are no bargains to be had there, and their prices on things like rope and boat accessories are laughably high. Good quality stuff though, and if you dont feel like bargain hunting or waiting for a delivery, you can do worse than this place.
