Was there last week with my son. We stopped in to get bait before hitting the pier. She knew exactly what was biting and on what bait and gear. We took her advice and my 8yr old son scored 7 Mackeral in about an hour with her recommended combo. I used my own tackle based on my own research and experience and was skunked. Next time I will show up with my poles and buy the bait and hooks from here. Super nice lady.
Don’t miss out on pier fishing when you are here in San Diego. Currently the pier is open but closes down at sunset. Crystal Pier Bait and Tackle is a great mom and pop shop and it is a really really good time. Must’ve reeled in over 60 mackerel fish. All small but had a great time. Thank you for such a great vacation experience!
Great place for a staycation. Two nights in Room 18 and you are rested and rejuvenated. Watch the pelicans fly over the porch. Coffee with the gulls.
Great little shop located right on the pier about half way down. They sell and rent just about everything you’d need to fish on the pier, plus some local beachy trinkets. The lady who was running the place couldn’t be any nicer, she even gave my daughter some seashells that had broken off a larger item.
Amazing bait shop....super friendly.....she was slammed with people i could hear it in the background so i actually just hung up....she was kind enough to call back....crazy cool lady
Seriously one of the best times Ive had in San Diego. They make it so easy to just show up and start fishing. $20/2 hours or $30/All Day makes the experience affordable and so memorable. We had so much fun, we came back for a second day.If you get stuck on something, just cut the line and then give you a brand new rig.Icant recommend this place enough!
What a great way to spend a few hours! For $7.00 you get a pole, all the bait you will need, a bucket, and all the supplies needed to catch a fish! This is a really fun way to spend a couple of hours if youre in PB and are looking for something to pass the time.We went during the week and it wasnt crowded at all, in fact we were the only ones even on the pier fishing so we had the entire place to ourselves besides the occasional on looker. It was pretty windy so the fish werent really biting but we did end up catching a pretty decent size fish so I would say it was a success! We will definitely be back!
The place was out of bait. A bait & tackle shop was out of bait. No parking. And the receptionist gate keeper woman was— frankly for lack of a a more eloquent way to get my message across— a witch. A huge witch.Don’t go here if you want to actually get anything besides frustrated
They dont have bait says the gentlemen behind the small counter... perhaps a name change is in order? Or maybe they only sell bait if you borrow one of their used poles so they can TACK on more fees. The ol BAIT and switch. Thats cute, might I suggest getting bait shrimp before visiting the pier folks. Over priced trinkets and half broken fishing poles is what youll find here, bring your own and visit a dollar store in national city.*** Update - the owner is correct, I am NOT. Customer, because what they portray themselves as is inaccurate. I came to buy BAIT, from the BAIT and TACKLE shop, and they didnt have any. So no, I was not a customer at all. And wont be, have a nice day.
The lady I talked to was fantastic!! Had a wonderful time on the pier and got set up with all my fishing gear for a great price, 10/10
Hunter was very friendly and got us set up very quickly on a very busy day! We had a ton of fun and even caught a Guitarfish!
Best pier in Cali highly recommend
My son and I were there on Sunday the 18th at around noon. Rented gear: pole, bucket, pliers, rag, knife and bait. We got a full run down on the fish, what to throw back and what to cut away. She was super friendly and we went on our way to the end of the pier. Caught our first about five min in, but closer to the pier vs. the long cast. We caught 25+ and had a fantastic time!
Hunter was awesome very informative and got us fishing quickly ! Will definitely return here for our next trip !
This pier is one of the more beautiful Piers it short and is a private Pier which has a whole bunch of rental houses right on the pier. The area is really nice and the views are absolutely amazing. You can get a whole panoramic view of the whole surrounding from the pier theres a little tiny shopwhere you can buy souvenirs and if youre a fisherman you can also fish off the pierthe little shop also sells fishing gear and rent fishing poles.there are many species of fish that you can catch off the pier just watch out for the surfers as they tend to surf fairly close to the pierand even sometimes I get mad at you if you throw your lines out too far 😜.I dont know if you can get on to the pier right now during covid-19 though unless youre a guest.
Great service and very friendly 👍
Hunter was super nice and showed me a lot of cute anklets they had 12/10 would recommend
My 9 year old son has been asking about going fishing. I havent fished in 20 years, and it had been 25 since I last fished off a pier. After asking a friend, and looking around, we decided that this placed sounded like the best place to go to first. We arrived and were greeted by a lady named Pam. She got us set up, pole, bait, bucket, pliers towel, and a super sharp knife. We paid $15.00 for 2 hours, and Pam gave us some basic instructions and tips on fishing at the pier.Today was rather windy, and my line got snagged on the pier. I was rather nervous letting Pam know, but she was very kind, and gave us a new pole to use, while she put on a new hook. 2 hours, no fish, we returned the pole, but we had a great time. Pam was nice enough to give my son a coupe of parting gifts, which helped, as he was very disappointed that we didnt catch anything, so I sincerely appreciated that.I highly recommend this to folks like myself who dont have any fishing equipment, and even more to folks visiting out of town. Its a lovely spot, and the staff where knowledgable, and kind. We look forward to returning soon!
Amazing experience, we had already had poles so it was only 5 dollars for a big bag of shrimp and we caught 23 fish that day
Absolute best inexpensive time in San Diego. James, the owner is a true gentleman. Takes time to make sure you have know how to have a great time. We got one line caught on the pier with a fish on the hook, and Randy, one of the employees was right there and went above and beyond to make sure my son not only saved his line but also kept his fish. Top rate customer service and very decent pricing. We have caught fish every time weve come here. Randy even cleaned our fish for a small tip. :-) Thanks for a great time! Oh and dont forget to say hello to Ellie....the little black puppy who runs the shop. Shes just as kind as the staff!
Beautiful location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would give a 5 if I jadnt wait 20+ minutes to make my purchase. This place needs someone just for tackle and another for inside the shop. Great location.
Definitely recommend this place!
This rod, reel, bait rental shop is the best shop ever. The lady is so nice and knowledgeable. The fish didnt bite but for the price the experience was priceless.
We have been staying at the pier hotel for the last 3 years now. My son and daughter absolutely love fishing off the pier. Its a highlight of the vacation. The tackle shop has everything you need. Weve caught sand sharks, sting rays guitarfish and much more!
Great fishing! it was the first fishing for me and my sons. The owner James let us know everything very kindly. We have so nice day there!!
Sweet old lady that works here was very helpful prices were good
Great fishing! Great price! The owner James was as nice as they came. Will be back next year!
$30.00 for two of us to fish off the Crystal Beach Pier. They furnished everything thing we needed to fish, even a knife to cut the bait and a towel to wipe our hands on. She told us where and how to fish and We caught 3 Fish.
Great place to rent rods and bait. We fished for a few hours and caught lots of fish.
Nice walk, near PB and there is a nice hotel on the Pier itself. Limited time as they are not open at night.
