Academy is still the go to for all your basic sports and outdoor need. Other retailers will have high level or smaller niche products, but none match the budget buys you can get here. The shoe section is very thorough. The camping section is more complete than any Walmart or Target section. The only reason I dropped a star is that aisles are clearly mislabeled making it hard to find certain smaller items you cant spot from the aisle end.

Was immediately greated by a staff member who was able to direct me to the arm band--phone holders. The line moved quickly and was out of there relatively fast. Not a huge selection, but they had what I needed and got me to my work out without much of a delay.

Staff was super helpful. Although I didnt find what I was looking for they sure helped me and made me feel completely comfortable in asking for suggestions on other stores. Will definitely come back because of this.

Great selection of sporting good items. Their shoe selection is nice and they have optioms for all sports from flip flops to goif shoes, running, walking, and everything in between. The staff is helpful, especially in the shoe area. Finding your size is sometimes easier by asking for help. They keep most of their stock on the show room floor. Plenty of great name brands makes this place an awesome stop for every sport- hunting to fishing and a great place to find equipment for any youth sport too.

As everywhere ammunition is hard to find here. Lots and lots of other items with good selection. Service has always been good when I needed help.

Went in found what I needed. They arranged their checkout lanes which was nice. Very pleasant checkout clerk.

This location always has a good selection of products that I want and need. The staff is always polite and helpful. Employees take the time to talk to you and help you find exactly what youre looking for.

Ok academy has allways had good pricing and good products, but sometimes they carry alot less. Point in case went to look for court tennis shoes and they did have two only.They dont carry or stock just a little bit of stuff.Yes I will always go back as the specials are allways a great deal.

I have been coming to this academy for years now, I don’t really leave reviews but after what I saw I felt compelled to leave one.I was at the check out on the very first register near the entrance.There was a elderly couple asking for assistance and the lady in the front tried to assistant them. She kept calling for help, however no one showed up. I believe she (the worker) got upset and disappointed that she said something on the teams communication device. The manager NICK Came immediately and told her not to speak like that. Well NICK, if you have been listening, you would of heard her request. She was trying to help a elderly couple wanting to shop at the store. NICK spoke to the employee in a condescending manner. He was rude and arrogant!He’s a manager! He could of assisted, instead he decided to speak rudely to the employee. He seriously needs to be retrained!What a jerk!!

Always great to be greeted, and asked if I need anything, and walking out with what I came for, and not spending alot of money, academy has all you need for indoor or outdoor, your all great, in all a great place

This is one of the worst experiences Ive had in a retail store! I went in to return 4 hydro flasks and was told 2 of the colors werent coming up the manager on duty came over asked where I bought them and then all but But called me a liar when I said I thought it was in Seguin, to which he said we have no store in Seguin. Which is an outright lie!! Then told me he wouldnt return any them and shoved the bag at me. I was tired that day and had a lot to do so I just took the bag workout a word and thanked the cashier because she was very polite throughout the whole scenario. But I can tell you this I will never go back in that store again and will tell every parent I know exactly what happened and Ill bet they have second thoughts about going back as well

Went in to buy a new pistol and when I went to the counter the guy behind the counter paced about 6 times back and fourth while never asking if he could help me and when I finally got him to help me I asked if they carried a particular gun and he looks at me and says “occasionally” and then walks away! I was a little shocked that this kid is even allowed to help people buy guns. Well I guess that new academy credit card they talked me into getting is going to get out to good use on my way to my other gun shop who charges a little more but at least they don’t have to remind themselves to breathe and know what customer service is!!!

Very friendly staff and quick to and very willing to help. Juan N. in the firearms department was very helpful and answered all our questions. We made a 150+ mile drive as this store had what we were looking for. Made a second visit a week later because of how well we were treated the first time.

Love my Brooks but Letty may be the most annoying person to never say a word. She was moving this small ladder (literally a child could carry it) across the floor by dragging it. Sounded like a dump truck driving through the building. Either pick it up or have a capable employee pick it up. Absolutely annoying. I hate name dropping but this is an easy fix.

Its like all academys, with the exception of being better managed, and I gauge that on how they get you thru the check out lines quicker

Customer service is almost non existent,most employees are very rude,except a friendly manager in the Nike mens area.

If you time it correctly they have ammo in the popular calibers, AND for regular pricing! picked up 3 boxes of 100 ROUND 7.62x39 for 90$ (30$ per box) Any other gun store/retailer wouldve charged easily over 160-175$ thats if they even have it! YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED 3 BOXES PER PERSON!

One of my favorite stores. Great selection of shoes, clothing for my grown sons and husband. Shoes for the whole family. Guns and Ammo for hunting. Although ammo is in short supply. Saw some great riding toys for my Nephew, Nieces and Grandchildren !!

They get 2 stars because I did not have to wear a mask. So why the low score? Because I couldnt hear the employee behind her mask, and the screen. I asked when theyd be allowed to remove their masks. Her response was, Academy Sports is REQUIRING their employees to get the vaccine. Dear Academy..... thats against federal law. OSHA will tell you if any employee experiences an adverse reaction because youre requiring them to have the vaccine, you can be held liable. I will not shop any business that requires their employees to get the vaccine. No one should shop your locations anymore. Employees should be given freedoms to choose. Thats America. Not communist China.

I come to this location often and up until today always had decent customer service. Michael at the gun counter is the sole reason I am leaving a one star review. Absolute terrible customer service. Was looking at purchasing a knife and asked to see it and every .02 seconds he kept reaching out to grab it out of my hands. As someone who deals in customer service daily it’s completely unacceptable to repeatedly reach out to grab a product from a customers hands while they are still looking at it.

I used to love going to this academy, but now every employee, manager, and janitor you happen to walk past has to give you their 15 minute sales pitch on why you need to apply for their academy card. That type of selling is old hat and obnoxious.

Went to Academy tonight. Was at checkout. Cashier asked me if I would like to apply for the Academy card for 15 dollars off my total. I said sure! Here is the catch and they did not explain . You can only get the discount if your approved. So not only did this cost me a 4 point hard hit on my credit, it cost me the 15 bucks. My credit is fine . Not everyone gets immediately approved, so I was denieded the discount. Asking the cashier why he did not explain that until I had to wait for a response. His response, I was about to tell you that. I already contacted the manager. They agreed to give me the discount tommorow. I explained that they need to explain the process before asking people to submit credit info.

Staff is for the most part friendly. Went looking for their gun section and found they had more guns in stock than most places around town due to COVID. As far reloading supplies and ammo they are always cleaned out. By far Academy usually has the best gun prices in San Antonio.

This Academy was out of 8 to 8.5 shoes in wide width for all shoes between $39.99 and $49.99. Why not stock more if selling rapidly. Are they wanting to push the $69.99 to $129.99 price range? Hell, not many tennis shoes worth those prices. Its just name brands just demand high prices and somehow brainwash people into thinking the shoes are worth it. Great choice and prices on items. But the bathroom has green stuff growing on the walls and toilets and looks like people peed on the walls 3 years ago and never cleaned it.

I frequent this store... Store selection is on par with others - minimal ammo, shelves bare on some isles. . It is difficult to find someone to help you if you need it.

The absolute worst curbside service ever! It took over 40 minutes to get my items and finally had to go inside to get it. Received a text my stuff was ready for pick up. So far so good. I was impressed by the text and the detailed instructions on how to pick up curbside. I went to pick up my order hour later. No one was there to help outside. Called the store multiple times until someone finally picked up. Irritated employee came outside and said they do not do curbside service at this store and I would have to come inside. Showed irritated employee text message received from Academy stating order is ready to pick up curbside. Irritated employee leaves with no resolution. Went inside store waited over 10 minutes to get help. Repeated I am here for the curbside pick up order. New employee after 15 minute wait finally finds my order. New employee stated irritated employee was wrong they do curbside service. Get your act together Northwoods Shopping Center Academy!!!

What can you say about Academy that hasnt already been said a million times? Went in to buy a scoped rifle case and sling for my new hunting rifle and had a good selection of both hard and soft cases ranging from $10 and up and the sling that I wanted, to boot.Academy has been one of my mainstays for years and I will continue to shop there.

I was looking for a specific shoe size and when i finally found it.... It only had 1 shoe. Couldnt ever find the other 🤷 And the shoes werent available online.

Not sure what their size purchasing model looks like but it is impossible to find anything in a womens XS at this location. Its obvious that in their size runs theres only (1) coming in or maybe (2) in an XS. Its frustrating to not be able to find your size in anything. Store is kept neat, Kids selection seems lacking with regards to depth of product, staff is hit or miss with regards to pleasantries.

Could not get any help in the store. Finally had to go up to the front, the employee I talked to had to get a manager to help me. The manager could not help me and sent me to Golf Galaxy. And they were fantastic.

On a Saturday night of Labor day weekend we got in found a tent then went into the checkout line which was super long at 645pm. Academy only had three cashiers at the check out and there was 20 customers in line waiting to check out. We waited over 7 minutes to get to a cashier. Thats all.

Great store with very helpful and friendly staff for the most part. Was pretty crowded considering current pandemic but theres only a week left until school starts. At least everyone had masks on and were trying to maintain some distance from one another. Ammo supplies were low from what we saw as well as weapons selection seemed a bit low as well.

I went to exchange 2 pairs of leggings that I purchased online because they didnt fit. Didnt have any in store. Received a gift card that is for in store only, cannot be used online. The only way for me to get these leggings is online,apparently, so it doesnt make sense. Really Academy? I had the receipt.
