Prices seem fairly high for my liking, but it doesnt stop me from going by to see what they got. Has really good name brands and some items arent as badly priced as I say. They do have a great clearance, and the prices are fair. The management is like everywhere else, you got good and your bad. Ive had a couple of run-ins with 1 or 2 of the management when I do my merchandising but its their store so its theyre rules.

I was at academy on Sunday and needed to use the facilities...OMGosh, the janitor was just finishing up and yet it looked as though it had not been cleaned in ages, the white entry door was black and sticky with grime, I had to pass two stall which were disgusting. I definitely will never use their toilet again. That experience has changed my feelings about academy as a whole.

This review is being written specifically for the shoe department. Academy used to be my “go to” store for workout shoes. Needing a new pair, it was the first place I went today. I was dismayed, first of all, at the lack of stock on the shelves. So I can give them a break for that - I know that many stores have had difficulty receiving merchandise and keeping shelves stocked. However, the shelves here weren’t just lacking product. What shoes they do have aren’t organized well and things are very difficult to find. The department was messy, boxes of shoes on the floor, along with bits of paper - does anyone around there ever pick stuff up? I was in the area for at least 30 minutes and these two employees stood and talked sports the entire time I was there...I never saw them ask anyone if they needed anything. The only time they interacted with customers was when someone came to them - and even then, the just pointed the customer in the general direction - never moving to actually assist.

Love this place and the loads of selections. Prices are good as well. Parking lot has plenty of room and close by.

The shoes are reasonable price better then going to the mall and spending over $200 got 2 pairs of shoes for less then $200 they have a lot of selection for grown ups but for babies they rarely have any. But love it.

I came in to buy some items for my hand gun that I currently own. The men at the gunbar basically wrote me off because I didnt know exactly what model my 9mm Ruger was. I came in to buy pepper spray, ammunition, extra magazines, and a concealable holster. I wasnt sure what would be best for all of those items, so I had to make an educated guess and just buy what I thought would work. I understand I couldnt buy the magazines at that time, but they could have assisted me with picking out the other products I came for. Meanwhile there were atleast 3-4 male workers who didnt even care to help, even though I asked for assistance. I want to feel confident in my products that I purchase to protect myself and my family, and will take my business else where next time.

The guy in the shoe department was very helpful. Helped me find what I needed. Great selection and great prices.

The store was clean perfectly stocked and the customers and employees were wearing masks. The shoe selection is fine and also well stocked. It was very busy so there were not really many employees available. But I didnt need assistance so that was not a problem. Mothers day sales were everywhere which is fine, any reason for a sale is okay with me.

It was my 2nd time to go to San Angelo but 1st time to went in the stores there. We went to Academy supposed to buy something that my daughter needed but ended up buying a Brooks Anthem 4 running shoes for my self that was on sale. Great buy, nice comfortable shoes. Place is well organized and clean, associates are helpful.

They were out of stock on several items because Texans seriously enjoy Spring Break. But I got lucky as the items I needed (an air pump and a couple of drink tumblers) were still on sale and reasonably priced!Ive always liked Academy, its tons better than the chain whose name is slang for a guys genitals.I just wish all stores would STOP pushing credit cards, as store credit cards are evil.

Pretty high prices on merchandise but often have 40- 60% off clearnace racks that I like to go through, usually find pretty good stuff if not my kid definitely does lol.

Great place to find shorts and comfy clothes for those of us that are a bit bigger. There 3x size basketball shorts for under ten dollars are wonderful.

Love The Academy in San Angelo, though theyve suffered from stock depletion like everyone else especially with guns and ammo. otherwise you can usually find guns, ammo, magazines etc.

I attempted to buy shoes and couldnt get any help. I walked right through 4 guys that supposedly worked there and nobody would help me.

I love this place. Only problem is that the employees are hovering over everyone. I sat back and watched and they do it to everyone. As if the employees decided that every single person who walks in the door is a their, and treats them accordingly. I found it to be rude and I couldnt shop for what I needed because I felt that each time I looked at something, 2 or 3 more employees would approach me to ask if I needed help with the item. Its a shirt people, not a diamond, not a bar of gold.....its a $12.98 shirt.

Worst shopping on line experience ever !!! Called store because said they had item was looking for.The store confirmed they had one. Asked if they would let me by it over phone then drive the two hours it would take to pick it up. Said no I would have to do it on line. I did money taken from my account before I even got out of online ordering. Said to wait for email to pick up. But as I said was going to take 2 hours to get there so headed that way. Got there asked about order? Was told they would check. Watch another customer purchase said item and walk out with it. After waiting for over hour was finally told the didnt have it. Told them I wanted my money back. Was told would have to be put back on my card. Ask how soon was told 1 to 7 days. By now Im really upset not once was I told they were sorry or that it was there fault. They had my money but I didnt get product. And I was going to have to wait for my money. All kinds of excuses were made but never an apology.

This location gets 5 Stars for there gun policy. They recognize that license holders are not criminals.

In the great bike shortage of 2020 due to COVID, I had been shopping for a specific 24 bike for over a month. I finally was able to nab just the perfect one via Academy.com for a curbside pick up. However, shortly after my order was confirmed, I received a call from Academy staff that the bike was missing the seat, so the order would be canceled. I explained to them I really wanted that specific bike and asked if they could arrange a discount on a different seat they had in stock, or come up with some solution other than canceling the whole order. They called me back shortly and said they found a seat and my order was complete and ready for pickup. Job well done!! Thank you for going above and beyond!

Great fair prices, large selections of most outdoor related merchandise. Staff is helpful when they want to be. Expect to stand in front of the firearms for a long while until someone actually acknowledges you and offers help. Lines up front are always super slow as well.
