Love this place. Best place in town to get hardwood. They have a selection of pre milled 3/4 S4S in various widths and species...plus more rough cut species in various thicknesses (4/4-12/4). All at fair market prices. They will even mill your rough cut lumber selection to your specs (takes a few days). Take your tape measure and project plans there with confidence.

McBeath is a great wood warehouse. They have a large selection and it is clean and organized. They even do millwork services. Delivery is cheap and easy. Staff is kind, knowledgeable and very helpful. Highly recommended wood supplier.

They guided me through making a table out if hickory. They picked, ripped, glued, planed and sanded the 8 x 3 table top and other pieces that would be used to finish it. They gave great advice on how to cut the ends and what product to finish it with. We are very satisfied overall with our experience.

Great place, love being able to browse the warehouse and buy board by board or large quantities depending on your needs. Staff were helpful and fast. Ive seen lower prices elsewhere at times, but also much higher prices elsewhere.

It was my first time visiting. I got some maple plywood and oak boards. They explained the different options in plywood and helped a first timer through purchacing. They loaded the plywood for me and it was a pleasure to work with. Flat smooth and cut like a dream. It was true 3/4 I it was easy to measure for.

Great selection and helpful friendly staff!

Check your sheets of wood carefully for straightness/ warping before you leave. I bought several sheets of 5x5 baltic birch. After working with it to make some cabinet faces, i found out that 1 sheet was warped. I brought it back to see what they could do as far as an exchange or at least a discount on another sheet but they didnt stand behind their product. At $60 per sheet after tax, i would expect better CS than this. Intermountain wood products has baltic birch for the same price. I will go there next time.

Love this place. Amazing selection of wood. Youll need some time, tools, and skills to prepare rough cut lumber for your project. At minimum a circular saw, but you will likely need a table saw, miter saw, and thickness plainer. It would also be easier if you have a jointer. That said, youll save a ton of money with rough cut lumber over prepared lumber that you buy at the box stores, not to leave out the many, many additional species of wood and non standard dimensions you can find here.

This place is the best! Their selection is the most robust in the state. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. From the standards to exotics to natural slabs to beautiful glue-ups Ive always found exactly what I needed to make my project beautiful.

One of the best places in Utah for a wide selection of high quality wood at competitive prices. They have both unfinished and finished wood in various sizes. Not only do the have the more popular varieties (maple, alder, cherry, walnut), but also quite a few exotic varieties. Most of the wood is available for browsing in their warehouse, and they also deliver.

They offer excellent variety at reasonable prices. And they also offer some valuable services such as gluing up and planing panels out of some off cuts and awesome savings.

We love going here. Price is always fantastic comoared to big chains, and customer service is great.

Theyre very nice and helpful with a wide selection of hardwood. The prices are not low for the general public. Im sure if you have a contractor or commercial account with them it would be better. Good quality. I dont know of any other places in SLC with similar selection.

Great place to get hardwood and plywood. I would give them five stars but they have started charging $5 per cut when you get a 4x8 sheet cut in half. This actually is a kind of a deal breaker. Ill be looking elsewhere for panel goods.

Im a complete woodworking novice, just putting together some quarantine projects. The guys at Macbeath were extraordinarily helpful. My purchase was tiny compared to most of the other people there, and they had to walk me through a couple things, but they were friendly and totally willing to help. And as a plus, they had (what I would consider) an awesome inventory. I got exactly what I wanted without any trouble. 10/10. Would recommend.

Went here for the first time and really liked it! I went to get some teak to build a shower foot stool. My oldest son, who had a great year in woodshop, wasnt as excited as I was for this long afternoon trip. Anyway, good service, and a very friendly and helpful crew. They were short staffed and I didnt feel it was a problem. I was very impressed with their selection and the price seemed right. The only issue I had was locating it. Now that I know, Ill definitely be back.

Ive used MacBeath for over a decade for almost every one of my projects - thousands spent. Friday last week I bought a large batch of 4S material off the shelf. Over the weekend I changed direction with my project and no longer needed the material. I returned the lumber to the store on Monday and was charged a 15% restocking fee. I DID THE RESTOCKING MYSELF! I was told it was corporate policy recently begun due to credit card fees. BS - when you return something, the credit card company returns the fees to the vendor. MacBeath is no worse off for the transactions, but Im out $55. Two stars instead of one because the guy behind the register gave me a few dollars off my new purchase that same day as a consolation.To MacBeath Corporate: this policy is ridiculous if instituted without giving decision making power to the individual stores.

I made an order, they told me one price for the dimensions and species that I requested and charged me almost three times as much as the price we discussed over the phone. When I asked them about it they then told me I was paying for an entire board rather than just what I had asked for. Realistically I understand that but I feel like I should have been made privy to that information. What was the point of the first quote if I have to buy the whole board?!

Great service tell I try to exchange the wrong board I picked up and they charged me a 15% restock fee. Which was about 70 dollars. First impression is key. Last time I go there. Maybe if you inform your customers first before purchasing or having a sign by your register. You did not have a sign up at the time thank I looked around.

For service and selection no one beats these guys. For standard domestic hardwood their prices tend to be slightly higher than intermountain the staff here are very helpful and dont sneer at hobbyists like the major suppliers do. They have a vastly greater selection than anyone else in town.

Great selection of amazing wood species, domestic and exotic. But what sets these guys apart is their phenomenal customer service. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. I called to see if they could cut a small stump from a tree we cut down into 1.5” discs so I could turn them into end tables.I’m fine with the fact they don’t work with wood taken from local trees, but the salesperson was a jerk, interrupted me, and instead of just explaining kindly that they don’t for whatever reason, decided to be abrupt/rude.I’ve gone to MacBeath for other projects before, but after this terrible interaction, I’ll be going elsewhere.

For hardwoods in Salt Lake there is no place better. Now that I think about it it is the best place I have been (CA, IA, CO, ID, NV) for hardwoods. I love that I can browse or get pointed in the right direction if I need something specific. If you need help they are great.

MacBeath is great. This isnt like a big box stores where lumber is already cut to specific size. They have a large variety of hardwoods and softwoods (best selection in Utah) that are rough. Rough means that the boards wont likely have a straight edge.MacBeath offers milling services, where you can pay them to make edges straight. They also have moldings available and can make any moldings from any species. They also have a huge selection of plywoods in a variety of species and thicknesses.Pricing is clearly visible for each spiecies and thickness (measured in 1/4 inches such as 4/4, 5/4 or 8/4). All the lumber is priced per board foot. A board foot is a volume measurement, not a linear measurement and is calculated by multiplying the thickness, width, and length. A board foot is a piece that is 1 thick and 12 x 12.. A piece that is 2 thick by 6 wide and 12 long is also one board foot. You can ask any one of the stock guys for help in figuring out how much wood you have.

I am very amateur as far as purchasing wood goes. I needed a very specialized order for a table im making and I expected it to be an ordeal. I was pleasantly surprised to find that everyone there was extremely helpful and understanding of what I needed. Also, they have a truly amazing selection of various sizes of seemingly hundreds of different types of wood. Perfect for small and large scale wood needs.

They have a good selection of woods if you are willing to are willing to sell your first born child. And my customer experience was terrible, not helpful at all. Seemed like all they wanted to do was rush me out of the store.I have two complaints about coming here. First was price. The wood I got was labeled in the back at $6. I had a 3ft piece cut and was told I would pay $7. What I was actually charged was $25. I was willing to bite the bullet thinking that I could return the piece if the wood didn’t work out or if I found a cheaper option.My project plans ended up changing and I found a cheaper option on wood, so I went back in the same week to return my piece and they refused to honor their return policy. That’s my second major complaint. On their receipt their return policy states that returns must be within 30 days, and you must have your sales receipt. It also says that they may be a 15% restocking fee. Which I figured would apply to my smaller price of wood because it would have to be sold with their smaller cuts which I understand is a harder sell. And I was ok with the 15% fee.They refused to honor their refund saying “I know it’s not posted anywhere, but we won’t accept returns if it’s under 6 feet”. I showed them the receipt and told them they should honor their return policy as posted but they refused saying it was hard to sell smaller pieces, even though their bins of shorter lengths was the whole reason I was referred to them in the first place.Needless to say I will not be coming back and will not have anything good to say about this place and will be referring people to not do business here.

As far as I know, they have no real competition at this point. Nonetheless, they still treat you like your business is important to them. I havent really done a wood project since 8th grade and they were quite helpful and accommodating. Even the guys in the back were solid and took some pride in their job.

When shopping for hardwood, you go to a hardwood supplier and no one else. These guys have the largest selection around and can get about anything. Awesome guys and good prices

Being a hobbyist woodworker, there isnt really anywhere else to get hardwoods, and I dont mind that at all. For starters, I find their friendliness to be excellent. Their selection and organization is enjoyable. They are slightly on the pricier side but they can afford to be around here. You wont find anywhere else without setting up an account for wholesale.

I had them do some work for me on old reclaimed wood. It came out great and the price was reasonable. They worked with me and stored my trailer (with the finished wood) in the wood yard since I was out if town when they finished. Great to work with these guys and their selection is awesome!

Friendly place even if (like me) you dont know what youre doing. They have reasonably priced baltic birch plywood and theyll make a cut for free so if (like me) you have a small car you can still manage.

Well i currently work here and its great. Tons of lumber both Demostic and exotic along with a very wide variety of plywood.

Since 2005 Ive been a loyal customer, and my father since the early 70s. Now nearing my 40s, him and I drive all the way to Texas to go to Clarks instead, or to the Macbeath in Cali. I will never support the SLC location again, miserable people to put it lightly. From the tension, to even the safety/treatment of their own workers, it deeply upsets me. Landon in Plywood does an amazing job and is very knowledgeable, Jess and Daryl up front are outstanding. Automation could help this location out tremendously. Getting wood just isnt the same. Lets just leave it at that, unless you want to delete this genuine review, then I can get political and leave you with footage.Edit: I did give 1 star initially but realize this impacts John Macbeath who I respect just like his father, and its not his fault. So Ive changed it to 3 stars.

This is a wonderland of hardwood. The selection is great and you will find many unique treasures. The management addressed my one complaint so Ive updated my review from 4 to 5 stars.
