My Husband and I went today for breakfast as we havent been in a very very long time. I ordered the breakfast club on toast; The bottom of the sandwich was soaked, from laying on the plate, the lettuce was the outer layers and tough, The bacon and ham was really the best part, breakfast potatoes are nothing more than canned, boiled slop that the try to fry up and they taste NASTY with a weird aftertaste as well as TOO salty. The fried apples are not good, they are not home fried apples but merely some cheap canned mush that you may get a couple of slices. The eggs on my Husbands order were actually cooked to perfection; The bacon was crispy. The pancakes were served hot, but they wont done in the middle and had a pasty texture/taste. The prices are in line with the industry; but definitely not worth it. When they were at the old place and yes it has been a while but the food was of much higher quality. WILL NOT be going back.
The classic diner experience and taste. Our party of 5 had to wait a bit and it was well worth it. Reasonable prices, great service (Kim) and delicious food. Best biscuits I’ve ever had at a restaurant. My breakfast bowl exceeded expectations. And watch for the servers lined the dishes up their arms. Quite a show.
The wife and I have been coming here for years since we moved to Richmond 6 years ago. A family owned and operated diner with a very good breakfast. The staff is always friendly, your food comes out in a timely manner, and the prices are very reasonable. However, lately we have scaled back our visits due to the political banners. Yes of course ownership has that right, as we all do, to promote their preferred candidate but my breakfast should provide me a sanctuary from politics, not more of it.
Super fast service, light happy vibe. Unfortunately I wasnt impressed with the breakfast food, but Im used to more hippie crunchy type food. Like the veggie omelet used canned or frozen vegetables instead of fresh, but was otherwise cooked and seasoned well. The homefries had a slight aftertaste as if maybe they were boiled rather than fried, and one bite was super salty and the next bite was plain and mushy. The toast was just bad like cheap store bought white bread. I prefer places like First Watch for traditional breakfasts or local bakery-cafes.
Such a nice environment. Staff was courteous. Restrooms were nice & stocked. Food was yummy 😋 & plentiful.
This place was amazing! We tried to go to several Waffle Houses which all said online and on their phone system that they were open for dine in and were not. McLean was the restaurant we found that opened the earliest. We loved the experience, the food and we will definitely be back many times in the future!
24AUG21 Here I am again. Going with my BIGGEST BREAKFAST again. Sure is GOOD!!!😃👍😋 21JULY21 Back for some more DELICIOUS home style cooking.😋😋😋I usually eat breakfast here but today Im going with the open faced roast beef sandwich with apple sauce and french fries and a sweet tea. They have new menus now and I really like them.😃👍😃👍 And the sandwich was OUTSTANDING!!!! 👍😋👍😋 This place is unique. Everything on the menu is good as Grandmas cooking. The servers are friendly and the food is delivered quickly. I especially enjoy eating breakfast here. The atmosphere is down to earth and I find it comfortable and relaxing. My Daughter loves eating here when shes in the area.
Well, I wont go back....I ordered two eggs, buttered toast, grits, and bacon . One piece of toast was soaked in butter no butter on the other slice. Before asking, my waitress refilled my coffee messing up my sweetener and cream mix. Then I was automatically charged a gratuity of $2.15..... on what should have been a 12 dollar and change ticket . Its not the amount....its the fact that I get to choose the amount...not someone else. I WONT go back.
This place never disappoints! The food is delicious! You will not regret coming here I never leave review but this place definitely deserve it, the food comes out quick, fresh and hot I have nothing bad to say 10 stars for me.
Their corn beef hash is so delicious. I didnt enjoy the grits; they werent cooked thoroughly in my opinion but maybe next time that I go Ill ask for them to be cooked longer. The service was efficient. The servers provided great customer service. The ambience was chill. Id definitely go again soon.

McLeans is a really great place I feel fortunate to live nearby.A friend and I came today around 1pm, and saw that they were closing early at 2pm. They were very kind and said they would still have time for us.I had the Western Omelette and it might have been the best omelette Ive ever had in Richmond. The hash browns that came with it also might be the best Ive ever had.The staff was all super nice. The prices are great. Im a fan for life!
Super quick service. Nice staff. Plenty of food.. Great atmosphere. Friendly, happy patrons. I would definitely come back here if Im ever back in town.

I have been eating here since 1995. The service is great and the food as well. Family owned and family loved. You can tell by some of the long-term staff that have been here. Reasonable pricing. Parking is really the only challenge.
I have been going here for years. A different server had a yelling match with a customer sitting at a different table. I was not involved. They asked for a different server. Instead of the manager giving them a different server she told the customers that were already upset that they could leave. The manager escalated the situation. More yelling, the customers left and the manager apologized with an odd bow and then said she goes through this once week. This was a display of unprofessionalism by management. It also disturbed the other customers that wanted a nice quiet breakfast. My server was great and my food was also. The manager could have handled the situation differently without getting into a screaming match. This all happened on my birthday.

Biggest Breakfast in town with Scrapple is my favorite on the menu...Oh!! Dont forget the Chocolate Chip Pancakes!!! Cant go wrong here ....Salmon Cakes ....Cheese Grits .....Fried Porkchops.....I can go on and on. 😋😁
The restaurant wasnt that packed for me and my co-workers to have to wait 20 minutes to get our order taken. Of course the food came out great but this was by far the worst service i received from here. As a server or cashier you must be able to multi-task and deal with people and not show frustration in front of customers.

The food was AWESOME. The French toast were normal size not those gigantic slices other places serve which I never can finish. This time I was able to finish it all and they werent dry. I opted for french fries instead of homefries. Delicious! And the turkey bacon was also good. I wanted it a little more burnt than what I got, better the taste made up for that. Cant wait to go back and get the salmon cakes. They looked so good. Everyone in my party ate good and left fully satisfied!
Average food, decent costs and fast service. The waiting area is small. The floors & tables were sticky. Hot sauce is Texas Pete, so bring your own.

Ive been here before and my food was good. But the second time in particular was very upsetting. I came in and Waiter came late. Took my order after 20 mins of sitting. Then others came in after me and was served food before me. I sat there and watched and waited for my food and it had been a hour and then after seeing the waiter serve others after the fifth person I left and was very disappointed. I will not ever come back. Very inconsiderate.

Its southern breakfast food. Eating here will bring back memories of the many places weve all stopped along the roadside when driving to the mountains or up and down the coast. If you expect it to be fine dining, its on you. This place has no shame in its game. It puts on no facade. It is what it is. I like the sausage and gravy biscuits, myself. They do them right.

Worst service ever, the server NEVER came to check on us after our food was delivered. We had to ask two different servers for syrup but they never bought us any so I had to walk to the bar and ask for some. When the server decided to come to our table it was to give us our check which she threw on the table with a attitude. She did not ask us “how was our meal” do we need any boxes” “would we like to go drinks” nothing. Also to mention she never came back to take the table behind us order, another server had to step up and take it. Would not return!

Went here recently having gone once years ago. Cool open diner feel. Good service, but what really brought it all home was their pancakes. Perfect amount of fluffy and almost slightly (ever so slightly) crispy on the outer layer. Just really good texture and taste. Some of the best pancakes Ive had in a while. Plan on going back next time Im in Richmond. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good breakfast or brunch.
I hardly ever write a negative review but this place does not deserve a 4.5 rating. I had the sampler and everything but the biscuits and gravy were subpar. The service was great, and the food came out fast even on a busy Saturday, but I cant recommend this place.
Friendly staff and ability to call in my order to go. Home fries were more like scalloped potatoes but good nevertheless. The breakfast burrito was delicious as well. Plenty of toppings included to go.
Not at all impressed. Everything is out of a can. I ordered Sausage gravy that was out of can. Fried Apples out of the can, and very bland, and to make matters worse I ordered corn beef hash and that too was out of a can. The only thing I think they actually cooked was the pancakes and eggs. Everything else was just reheat and serve. It was just okay. I’m not in an hurry to go back.
Fun and delicious! Absolutely everyone was working so hard! My food was great, I received it quickly with a smile. Which is awesome. I couldnt help but notice how everyone working was awesome. The cooks were flying around in the back pumping out beautiful plates and all the servers were humming around, it was cool to see. Im definitely going back to check out some lunch next time.

What a great way to start the new year. Have not been here in a while. The service is still amazing. My husband and I were able to have a really hearty breakfast for a relatively small amount of money (and of course he added several items on grits, fried apples, etc).The service is speedy, and the food is good. I especially love the home fries. No matter how hard I try I cant get my potatoes to crisp like this at home.If you are looking for a good diner experience this is a go-to in Richmond. We have been coming back for decades (well, the location has changed, or upgraded, but all the good things are the same).

Hi, I was visiting my daughter in Richmond, VA, and I loved the breakfast at this cozy place. Im from Appleton, Wisconsin.
Staff were all masked up and super friendly. The restaurant was very clean and I saw staff disinfecting tables as consumers came and went. Tables were restricted to ensure appropriate social distancing. Food was brought out quickly and although I was there a very short time, wait staff checked on me multiple times. Great experience, as usual even given the obstacles of covid restrictions.

Tried this spot with my cousins who has been here several times and said the food was good. To me it was just ok. Not sure if it was because we arrived a hr before closing but i will try again

Food was brought out cold then when asked if we could get it remade they heated it up then manager came and said well maybe McLeans is not for everyone why is that because it’s white owned and we are black we’ll maybe the customer service should be better food was awful the only good thing was our drinks
Second time going here and wanted to try a few items before giving a review. Nothing is necessarily bad here, just not really blown away by the food. Ive only gone for breakfast and breakfast is one of my favorite meals. Everything is just kind of bland. Breakfast burrito would be better with real cheese instead of the weird processed stuff they put on it. Their home fries are just grilled sliced potatoes. Im more of a hash brown guy.

Nice little place. Clean and doing a great job with social distancing. I brought 2 herring breakfast with apples and a corn cake and the Popeye omelet with apples and biscuits. Food was very good except the corn cakes where a little rubbery. Cant wait to try something else. 🙂

This Server Mark has a habit of taking his own tips from the bill and not returning with change. And the Manager Donna lies to cover up for him and others whenever it happens. On 4 seperate occasions this sever Mark has helped himself to well over a 70% tip while serving several different secret shoppers that i sent there for reviewsVery untrustworthy restaurant if youre black.

I got the lunch special on Thursday which was the pot roast with mashed potatoes cabbage and cornbread and for $9 not only were the portion sizes great but it was DELICIOUS and Im picky about pot roast I definitely will be back
