They provided great customer service listening to what I wanted and providing options to fulfill it. Even providing a couple 1on 1 training sessions and loading it in my vehicle. To make things easier they have financing available for a promo of 0 interest is paid off within the promo period. making it a win, win. They even fully set up the table and machine I purchased and showed express setup details. I was able to get add on such as presser feet and pro wound bobbins that are also a huge time saver. also add-on upgrade for the machine to allow specific needle sync settings that are a huge time saver. at checkout it was delivered out and put in my vehicle. the staff there was knowledgeable and friendly providing other necessities for the machine so I wouldnt be suppressed when I got home that they werent included which is standard for industrial machines. Money well spent I would buy from them again, and use their services going forward.... Oh, and cant forget that they even offered a trade in on the old machine.
Top of the line care and service with competitive pricing. I could not be happier with my new machine. I hear so many tales of woe from people that order their machines online. If you did make the mistake of buying online the service here department can work magic. Highly recommended!
My 93 year old mother has been sewing masks and donates them for food banks to give to children. She probably sews about 100 masks each month. As you might image, she has run through 3 singers, one baby love and is now using a Bernette which was recommended by the staff at Sewing Machine Service Company. She absolutely loves her new machine. Weve had to take the machine in twice for service - one time it was because of a bent needle and Kyle patiently explained how to check the needle. The staff is wonderful and the service exemplary. We drive down from Ballard to Renton because we love this place!
I bought my Bernina 770 QEE from them, and it has been so worth it. I receive the support I need when I have questions, and they are always willing to help me figure out a project I havent done before. Naomi remembers me (and my daughters) when we come in to pick up accessories, and always has a smile for us. Pattys classes are informative and so helpful! They are worth the drive to get there if youre not super close.
They were very knowledgeable and helped me with all my needs.
I really appreciate small businesses because they are more about the people then the money into the pockets of upper management etc! They are busy enough it took awhile for them to get to my machine which tells me they are worth the wait and they are helping other people. So many people want what they want now and I would rather have quality.Naomi and Kevin were great and I appreciated their honesty and the time they took to work with me. I am excited to try my new machine! I told Naomi what I wanted and she had it at a decent price. Yeah maybe I could have gotten a machine cheaper else where, but we need more small businesses, the Walmart’s and Amazon’s are taking over way too much. We lack community connection with big businesses! Glad they are still going strong!
My grandma brought all all her machines for service here for decades. Now that Ive inherited many of her machines this is the only place I will take them. They have great customer service and super reliable work. Definitely check them out!
I cant say enough wonderful things about the Sewing Machine Service Company. Its like walking into your Aunts home. The staff is so friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and hospitable. They know EVERYTHING about sewing machines and repairing them. They take all the time needed w/no rushing. Theyre truly delightful people and its a pleasure to enter into their shop. They even helped me w/my late Mothers sewing machines which werent purchased there. Im beyond happy to have found them as I get back into sewing again. Its easy to see why theyve been in business since 1942. If you need help w/a sewing machine or purchasing a new one, dont do anything until youve gone here. Thank you Sewing Machine Service!!
If you treasure your Bernina, youll be happy to have it taken care of here. I left my very old machine and newer serger for routine service. They both got white glove treatment. Excellent selection of threads, new machines and accessories. Happy to know they are there when so many shops have closed
It took over a month to get my sewing machine back after being quoted that it would take 2 weeks. They never called me to update me on the status. I had to call twice to see what was going on and why it was taking so long. There was nothing crazy was wrong. Also, their employees had very poor mask/social distancing adherence. Several employees were massless in an indoor space with poor ventilation in winter. Putting on a mask when customer facing and having it off around your coworkers is not safe and does not adhere to the state wide mask mandate for indoor establishments. This increases the spread and potential mutations of the virus. Come on guys. Get it together. I will not patronize them again.
Faster service than quoted. Excellent job, even gave them an opportunity to sell me a new machine if mine wasn’t worth repairing. They gave me honest opinion and recommended I just have mine repaired. Works great now. Will remember them for any repairs or upgrades!
Friendly, helpful staff and an amazing shop for everything Bernini.
I have been going to Sewing Machine Service for many years for my Bernina needs. They are always helpful and let you browse without being intrusive. If they dont have what I want, They can always order the item for you.
Outstanding service, took time to address concerns and tests possible causes, called with solutions and tested my foot to ensure it did not contribute to initial problem (did not leave it with repair) prior to return to guarantee problem was resolved. Highly recommend service.
They are great for repair, not so much about wearing masks or enforcing the mask rule to fully cover one’s month and nose.
Very helpful and friendly. GreAt suggestions! Knowledgeable on my seeing machine and accessories not pushy at all! Wonderful place great experience!
Excellent place to get a machine serviced. They know their stuff. They are also authorized to sell Bernina Machines. Good selection of new and used machines, as well as, industrial grade machines. I would caution anyone during COVID-19, that less than half of their front line sales staff wear masks, as of the date of this review, unfortunately. If youre immune compromised, this may not be a safe place for you to go into. Send a delegate.
Purchased a Janome machine and I am enjoying using it so much! Good value, good service and easy to reach Sewing Machine Service Co. I am planning to bring my old machine in to learn what it is in need of.
This is my first on-line review of anything ever. I recently purchased an industrial machine from Kyle and the team at Sewing Machine Service. I had been considering buying one for almost two years. I visited the store three times before making a final decision and applying for financing. Each time, Kyle or one of his co-workers affably took the time to sit with me and walk me through virtually everything about the machines I was deciding between. They all did this in a very easy-going manner, in approachable terminology, and without an ounce of pressure. (My fiancee, who accompanied me on the first visit, even remarked how surprised he was to find himself so interested in the machines and how they worked. I think this is because of how engaging Kyle was and how clearly he explained the machines, motors, and their capabilities.) Arranging financing was simple and painless, ditto for delivery. Kyle showed up, got my new machine all set up and made sure I was ready to start working from that moment forward. I feel incredibly confident & happy with my purchase and know that when I do have questions Kyle will be just a phone call away. I feel very enthusiastic about Sewing Machine Service, highly recommend them, and obviously Kyle! Thanks!!
I initially went to Sewing Machine Service in search of a special presser foot for my 1997 Bernina sewing machine. When I entered through the side door, I was impressed to see a number of old, fascinating machines of all types. A man was working on a large piece of equipment and was king enough to stop his work to tell me about the machine he was repairing. Then I went into the store to see about my presser foot. The woman that helped me was very helpful and was able to identify the foot that I needed. Although they did not have one in the store, she ordered it for me and called me as soon as it came in. Love, love, love their high level of customer service. I will definitely take my sewing machine to them for service from now on and, of course, to purchase any future attachments for my machine that I may desire! Very nice, helpful, knowledgeable people!
I would rate yall 6 stars if that was possible.I recently purchased a used Merrow MG series serger and took it here to be refurbished. Kyle got into fantastic shape and I couldnt be happier with the service I got. They were so helpful. After I picked my machine up and got it back to my shop, I realized that I never got the v-belt from the previous owner, and I didnt know exactly what I needed. After a bit of research online, I returned with an idea as to what I was looking for and was helped by a pair of employees. Everyone I talked to was great. The perfect amount of patience and knowledge.I regret not remembering the names of the two gentlemen that helped me, as I want them recognized for being rad. They gracefully put up with me not knowing how to use a measuring tape, measuring the wrong part of my pully wheels, and then choosing the wrong size belt ... leading to me repeatedly returning to beg for an exchange for a different size belt and STILL getting it wrong. It was so relieving to eventually got it right. I know that there are other shops in the Puget Sound area that would not have been as cool with me. I will definitely be returning for my serger and sewing machine supplies and maintenance needs.
Reliably friendly and honest, I will be coming back for years to come.
I am so pleased with my new Bernina 770 that I bought here. Naomi was very informative and helped me tremendously in deciding which machine was best for me. I appreciate that they offer many classes for new owners.
I picked up my serger today which has been in the shop since June 22nd. Was told it would be 4 to 6 weeks to repair due to work load which I accepted when I brought it in. Got a call on July 1 saying that the items order to repair my serger had arrived and that the estimated TOTALLY cost for repairs would be around $230-250.00 which I approvedI called last week and was told that it would be ready no later than Friday Aug14th again cost would be $240ish. Never heard back. Called again on Wed Aug 19th told they were working on it. Then got a call yesterday that it was ready. When I picked it up the cost was $350. $100 MORE that was told back on July 1 and Aug 19th. NEVER got a call to tell me that the cost would be more. This is the SECOND time this has happened to me with this machine- of being told one cost for repair cost asking if I approved, to be than charged $100 more. NEVER, NEVER got a courtesy call telling me or asking me approval the higher charge. I have been a customer for a number of years, but sorry I wont be back again.DisappointedUpdate 8/24. Received a phone call from this business wanting to talk about my concerns. After explaining my situation, they apologized for the misunderstanding. Apparently the estimate was only for labor and not parts even though I had asked specifically if it was for the whole billing due to my prior experience from last year if the bill being higher than quote. They offered me a refund of $100 as an apology and stated they should have called be to inform me the cost was going to be higher than first told me a week before.I did suggest that they were more specific when they did give a quote of an estimate what it meant and that if it was going to be different in the future they give customers a courtesy call to inform them of the difference. They were open to that suggestion.
Sewing Machine Service has certainly lived up to their great reputation. They cleaned, serviced and repaired my 35 year-old Bernina. Its running great. They were fast and efficient. Thank you.
So wonderful to finally find a reputable and reliable place to have my Bernina serviced. I seemed to have found every dealer/repair shop in my area that would soon become a piece of history. There is a very good reason why Sewing Machine Service has been in business for so many years. Longevity and expertise says it all.
Excellent service; repair, classes and accessories! You will appreciate your machine even more after being serviced here!

My wife and I recently purchased a high end machine from this store and we felt no pressure upon entering and we were impressed by how knowledgeable the staff were. They spent over 90 minutes just showing us how the machine operates. I would definitely recommend this business to anyone and I couldnt imagine our experience there that day being any better. John
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Everyone we spoke with in person as well as on the phone has been very patient and willing to answer all of my and my 87yr old mothers questions. Thank you so much for your help!!
I have had two machines serviced and they run like a dream now. And I just bought a Janine 6600 from them. The service is remarkable. I felt so well cared for and know I got a very good price on my new machine. Thank you! Dede Norris
I have a 35 year old machine and they were able to replace the foot pedal without having to order it. I appreciate it because I had a project going for a fund raiser and no time to spare for mail service. Thank you!
Helpful and good communication. They brought my machine back to life!! Fair price too.
Kyle and Dan was so helpful not only helping purchase what I needed but put so much effort into squeezing 2 industrial sewing machines into my car. Thanks a bunch! Please check them out. Their shop is the best.
SMS has served us faithfully for many years. You are treated like a friend, not just a customer, whether investing in a new machine, bringing one in for service, or even taking a workshop to learn new techniques. Relaxed & thoughtful attention -- always.
Weve come all the way from Vancouver Island to use this company several times because their service is THAT good!..they spent hours by phone or email setting me up with the right machines. Then bending over backwards making themselves available to our timetable when it came to picking them up..they even snuck in a short notice machine service by the next day for my old machine!...thankyou SO much. Will definitely use you again in the future!
Naomi was so helpful! I came in with a problem making button holes. She worked with me for hours, finally determining that I needed to use a machine I dont own. She programmed a machine in the store and allowed me to use it for my project, tutoring me all the way! Help above and way beyond what I expected!
I have purchased all my sewing machines here and will get repairs from no other place. They have fantastic service and know their products. Classes are informative and they are always willing to assist if you need extra help. My daughter now has a machine from here also. They also encourage sewing for all generations no matter the machine.
The staff are all knowledgeable, professional, and down to earth. I felt comfortable asking and learning about the machines and accessories they have available in shop. I appreciated how easy it has been working with Sewing Machine Service Co Inc, and they have beautiful machines!
I find the service really great and also they were informative without pushing me towards a model or sewing machine. I will definitely go back for my sewing needs as there are other sewing machine dealers closer to me but I find SWS the most helpful.
This shop was extremely helpful in helping me find the right industrial staight stitch machine! I called in advance and spoke with Kyle multiple times and he was extremely patient with me and answered all my questions. I arranged to do a pick up rather than a ship, and they were very helpful in making sure the machine was ready when I arrived from out of town. They also encouraged me to call with any questions that I might have later!
Did a great job in a reasonable amount of time repairing my Juki, which was having bobbin winding issues. Charged a very fair price! Would definitely go back. They have a lot of used machines for sale also.
Having recently moved to the area, I was a bit uneasy when I needed to bring my sewing machine in for repair. Before I even got to the door, an employee met me on the sidewalk and carried my machine in for me. The service technician met with me, listened and documented what I was having problems. It was in perfect condition when I picked it up a few weeks later. While I was there, I asked Natalie to show me a new machine, which of course I ended up buying, because it was such a good deal. I have enjoyed coming into the shop for classes and am impressed by the friendly, happy nature of all the employees. I really like that the service is done on sight and not shipped out. Thank you SMS, you have created a new loyal customer.
Theres not a whole lot of places you can buy industrial machines locally, but this place was beyond awesome. Dan was so extremely helpful in steering me in the right direction for my purchase and I couldnt be happier. It was even worth the long drive to make the purchase. Absolutely love my new purchase, and I know it was a sound one because of the great customer care I received by very knowledgable staff. Wasnt pushed into buying anything more than what I needed to suit my needs. That says a lot in itself. Definitely would recommend this place, and dont let the outdated feel of the place fool you. Its a little treasure trove.
I have all my sewing machine serviced at this store/shop. They always do an excellent job by making sure that my machine is in top working condition. The staff at this shop are friendly and extremely helpful by answering all my questions in relation to sewing with my new Bernina. Highly recommend!
These people know what they are doing! Their facility is quite large and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that has any repairs to be done on their machine.
I have taken several different machines to this business for service. These guys have been honest and helpful as Ive kept all my stuff running. I have learned to trust them. They are timely, if possible. The only problem is that because they are well-loved, sometimes, you have to wait to pick up your machine!
The sales people really know their products! They are very personable and patient. I purchased a New Bernina Sewing and they were very helpful getting me started on it. I also purchased a Bernina Q24 Longarm which was delivered and setup at my home, they were efficient, cleaned-up after themselves and did a great job of getting me started on my new machine. I highly recommend this company!!
I purchased my Bernina embroidery machine from SMS a few years ago. I live in a remote area of Alaska, so getting it here was a chore. Ben was able to put it on Alaska Airlines and it arrived in great shape. I am also unable to attend classes, so Kyle has been invaluable helping me when I messed something up. Ben handles my parts orders quickly and efficiently. I appreciate that they go the extra mile for me and my E16.
Sewing Machine Service in Renton WA always provides great customer care, attention to detail and expert service! When you buy any sewing machine here they answer all questions and offer follow up classes so you get the most value from your purchase.Thank you SMS! Sue and Alan
Sewing Machine Service is the only place I will take my Bernina sewing machines. The customer service is wonderful with knowledgeable staff. I would highly recommend them.
Awesome service and sales. Ben and Natalie, honest, friendly and very knowledgeable. For me, its worth the drive from the harbor. Plus the store is a treasure chest of machines, new, old and vintage!
I have purchased 4 Bernini machines from your shop over the years. What more can I say? You’re the best!
I love this place! Owners, Cevin and Shelly Waffle take very good care of their customers. Whether you come in for a class or machine purchase/repair, or even just thread, you are met by knowledgeable, friendly people ! !
I have purchased a couple of industrial machines from Kyle at SMS and couldnt be happier. He delivered and set them up for me and they have been running great ever since. Looking forward to a few more purchases in the future.
This is the best place to get your machine serviced. Skilled repair staff. Great customer service.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Always willing to answer questions. Products are shipped quickly. Kyle is especially helpful!
Professional help set up my new E16 embroidery machine and walk me through the basics! I look forward to continued support and learning.
This is the place to go for serious sewers or those who want to be. The customer service is excellent and the support after purchase is stellar. If you want a good machine that will last, you need to get to Sewing Machine Service Co and buy a Bernina from Natalie.
The most knowledgeable sales and service staff Ive ever encountered at a sewing machine dealer. My new go-to place!
The team here is AMAZING! They fixed my old Pfaff, a second hand Juki Industrial Machine, and recently sold me my first *brand new* sewing machine, a Bernina B 535. Not only have all of their repairs been impeccable, but they are always so kind, quick, and answer any questions I have. Natalie was so amazing when I bought my new machine, she sat with me for over an hour showing me all of the features! She even gave me her personal email if I had any more questions and encouraged me to send pictures of my projects. Love everyone here! They are wonderful. As a local business owner it is so refreshing to have quality service and a company I know I can depend on. *BONUS* They always carry my machine and walk me out to my car!
GGC Embroidery depends on working machines. Sewing Machine Service provides us with quality dependable service.when ever it is needed. .
Bought a Bernina 770 QE at a great price at Sew Expo. Starting free classes next Monday, but already have had an hour of training to get me started.
If you like candy you should go to the candy store. If you like cars you should go to the local auto mall. Now if you like or need a sewing machine this is the place to go especially if you like Juki’s. They have a huge selection and all at very competive prices. We are return customers and will continue to be. Thank you giys and gals. Keep up the great work.
Natalie was really helpful in researching a foot for my Bernina. Have always loved the service department here, and Natalie is terrific in helping you find the products (or machines) that you need!
Really nice store with help in industrial sewing machines and in home machines
Excellent knowledge of products and great customer service.
Wonderful customer service and fabulous machines. Natalie is patient and thorough, knowledgeable and experienced. A perfect combination in the Bernina world!
Im relearning to sew, and was delighted to find a used extension table for my Janomi. Ill be back to take classes and check out their machines.
Kyle was very helpful and had lots of knowledge about the machines! I am excited to see how much my new Juki can do!
I am a relatively new customer to SMS, but I appreciate the great service, products, and classes they offer. They will be my GO TO machine service for my array of sewing machines.
I always find Cevin and his staff extremely helpful, whether purchasing a new machine, servicing or a repair. His classes are educational and fun, and the instructors are very helpful with questions and sewing tips. If you are having difficulty with a project, they are always very helpful.Edna Kelso
You cant find a better team than SMS. They are there to service the old machines, but they brought in the best of the best Bernina machines. It took me a while to see the value, but I bought one of the new high end machines 3 years ago and took all the mastery classes they offer. I use this machine nearly every day and its mechanical quality is right up there with the mid 1900s Singer machines, combined with the latest technology.
I can’t say enough positive praises about Berninia of Renton. I own an 830 Berninia given to me by my mother in the mid 70’s. It’s my work horse and can’t live without it. When my machine started acting up, it was making a god awful sound & then the bobbin stopped & popped loose before it was finished. I tried to sew but it quickly had other ideas. It abruptly stopped & was totally dead.......Berninia of Renton was able to fix my baby. It’s back & sews like a dream. It’s so quiet and purrs like a kitten. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh, they also sharpened my sewing scissors for free with a coupon they offered me. If I ever need machine work or need to buy a new machine I won’t go anywhere else.
This company is great in support, teaching and servicing your equipment of various types. The people are knowledgeable, patient and easy to work with.
Great customer service. Knowledgable staff. My go to for industrial sewing machine service!
A very friendly place. Quick and helpful service. Met all my needs. Thanks
Friendly, helpful staff. Im always happy to help support our local small businesses.
In need of a sturdy backup sewing machine, I went to SMS to see what was available. Natalie understood that I didnt want to invest in a machine that duplicated or surpassed my current machine that cost $$$. I just needed a machine for little projects that always arise while my main machine is in the shop for maintenance. I didnt want an electronic machine; I just wanted to mend and hem. I didnt want a lightweight machine to carry to classes. Natalie did not pressure me at all. She showed me basic machines and gave me her card to call when/if I decided to purchase. When I went to pickup my chosen machine, she had it ready to make certain I knew how to use it when I got home. She even helped me pick accessories from my broken backup machine that worked with my new backup. When departing, Natalie asked a young male employee to carry my machine to my car. Nice to have the help and nice to not feel guilty walking aside someone no stronger than I am struggling with the box. Every employee I encountered was friendly and courteous. I liked the cooperation of employees to address every customer during a busy period even if a customer needed help from a specific, busy at-the-moment, employee. Every customer felt valued. SMS has a nice, but not overwhelming, selection of machines. As important, SMS knows how to treat customers.
Very knowledgeable about all things having to do with industrial and home sewing machines, great service and products.
Always great service! 100% supportive in answering questions and providing information...Thank you, Sewing Machine Service!
I love the Bernina I bought here, and enjoyed the free classes that came with it. All the staff is really helpful and pleasant.
If youre going to buy a Bernina, this is the store to go to. They know their machines inside and out. Great sales people, excellent classes, especially on the machines, and superb repair and maintenance staff.
I bought a machine at the sewing expo and have received classes that interest me and great service. I highly recommend the Sewing Machine Service Company in Renton. I have the Bernina 880.
The reason I bought my new Bernina Simply Red sewing machine from Sewing Machine Service is: I took my vintage Singer Featherweight in because of a jammed bobbin hoping to have in house service on it. Not only did the service manager immediately fix the problem, he was kind enough to show me how to do so myself in the future, and gave me an in depth tutorial on how to properly oil my beloved machine. He did not charge me for his time or service. I could of bought my Bernina at a shop closer to my home than Renton, but I prefer to establish a relationship with a dealer that has in house service such as Sewing Machine Service. (other shops send all machines to a service center which takes weeks-even for a jammed bobbin)!!Everyone in the store was kind and helpful. I look forward to unwrapping my new machine on Christmas Day and the helpful advice I will get from this stellar business.
I love these folks. Friendly, expert service, great classes, and competitive prices on machines.
I am a loyal customer of SMS. I had taken my Bernina 770QE in for an issue twice to a dealer close to where I live and they could not fix the issue I was having. I was getting frustrated and I talked with Ben at an expo and I described my issue to him. He told me to bring it in and he would take a look at it. Within 10 minutes, they fixed my issue no charge in hopes of earning my business. I have to drive an additional 30 minutes but I will only take my machines here for service. They are honest, friendly and will go out of their way to make sure you are a satisfied customer. I will only purchase and service my machines here!! I have dealt with Ben, Kyle and Natalie and they are the best!!
Super helpful and took the time in the store to address the issues I was having with my machine!
The first time I took my Bernina to the shop for a tune-up, I mentioned the tension was off and making a noise. When I brought it home and used it for some mending, it started acting up and making noise again. So, when I took it back, they fixed it right away in the shop. First he tried repairing the old part, but finally explained that the place would need replacing. I was very satisfied with the service both times and was not charged for the labor at the second visit to finally fix my old Bernina 1008.
I have been buying my machines and having them fixed by Sewing Machine Service since 1996. That about says it all!
Everyone was friendly and helpful. My sewing machine works great!
EXpery, professional warm and inviting, patient when teaching about anything concerning all aspects of their business, always willing to answer and walk you thru problems of anykind,Its not only my go to place, but my friends. They have saved me money by showing tricks to accomplishing very large problems, also showed me how to make moneys.I have sent at least 75 new customers to their business, and others to call for questions to be answered. Love their products and all the people who are working there.S.P.E.D. Embroidery and GiftsPat Fuller, Ed Fuller. and Deedra Moseley
I just had my Bernina serviced at SMS and as usual they did a really great job! She purrs like a kitten and sews flawlessly. Ive had this machine for 8 years and am an avid quilter. Needles to say, my Bernina has been busy! The folks at SMS are awesome and I will always have my machines serviced there!
This is the only shop I will ever bring my sewing machine to for service. They are the best!
I have purchased a Bernina serger and Bernina 7 series sewing machine from this store. Their training upon receiving the machines and the support thereafter has been excellent. They give free mastery classes for all the Berninas they sell, and you can always call with questions or come into the store for assistance. I once broke the thread spool and brought my machine in...immediate repair and $5 charge! I was in the middle of an embroidery project and the thread broke and the machine jammed. I tried to unjam the machine, and in pulling out the threads I damaged the bobbin case; ran over to Sewing Machine Service and it was fixed immediately, and I was shown how I had pulled a wire out of place and how to fix it if it happened again...no charge! This store is a gem.
Very helpful. I went for repair and tune-up of my older industrial sewing machine.
Excellent customer service!!
Products are always top quality and shipped so quickly and carefully!
If you need anything to do with sewing and machines this is the place to go.
