Check engine light came on between Vivian and Rapid City, found location thanks to AAA. They looked into issue quickly, replaced a sensor, and got family back on the road quickly. During wait, listened to staff handle other client vehicle issues and they were great each time. Definitely recommend!

We made a quick trip to the Hills and had electrical problems that the dealership said they fixed after having my pickup for 2 days. The dealership did not fix my problem in the 2 days they had it but told me they did. These guys diagnosed the actual problem and got me back on the road in 20 minutes. I highly recommend this shop!

Ive been using these guys for about 5 years now, and they are the most reliable and trustworthy place in town. Theres a reason why their shop is always full and its hard to get an appointment with them! Theyre always busy, but they do their job really well. They basically rebuilt the engine on one of my cars, never overcharged me; always explain stuff when i ask them to; will let you take parts/pieces home with you if you ask. Even let me watch them work on my car. They know what theyre doing and they do it right the first time. The owner started this business from the ground up, just as a way to do what he loves doing, and his business, even though its had its ups and downs, is highly successful. Theyve never done anything to my vehicles without asking me first, and have never done something they shouldnt. I highly recommend them to all of my friends and anyone who asks. [And no, ive never worked for them or been compensated for anything I say; nor will I in the future. Theyre just the best and I want people to know it.]

My Crossfire failed to turn over though the battery appeared strong. Upon being towed to Black Hills Automotive Technicians, they wasted no time in attempting to analyze the problem. When everything pointed to a faulty pcm or rcm, they looked at the costs for replacement. They were as appalled as I was at the cost for replacing the parts. The next thing I know, Dustin is on the computer and has found a video dealing with a similar issue resolved by the addition of solder in 3 locations. He applied the solder and the problem was resolved. I believe they spent far more than the 1.5 hours labor they charged me and literally saved me thousands of dollars in unnecessary parts. These guys are the real deal. They know their business and are willing to take the extra step to help resolve the problem and save the customer unnecessary costs. If necessary, I wouldn’t think twice about bringing my business to Black Hills Automotive from Pierre. The miles to do that would be difficult, but I trust these guys! Thank you Dustin and Brett!

The people at Black Hills Auto really went out of their way to help us out. We were visiting SD on vacation and my car broke down. Not only did Black Hills Auto give me a tow truck company to call, they completed the repair very quickly and got us back on the road again for our vacation. These people took the time to explain the repair, dropped everything to work on my car, drove us back to our hotel with an offer to call them if we needed to go anywhere, came back the next day to pick us up, and had a smile the whole time! I highly recommend this auto repair company! They really did right by us!!!!!!

Van broke down on I-90 and AAA helped us tow to BH Auto Techs. I cant say enough how nice the women are working the front desk and how talented the technicians are. I described the problem before the tow truck had even arrived and Dustin was positive it was the alternator. They were able to get the part before closing on Friday and get it installed by staying after hours. So so grateful for this whole team!

They worked on my 1976 VW van the same day, got parts and repaired it.The owner and technician both own older VWs. They provided good explanations and follow-through. I was one of 3 highway breakdowns that day. Everyone got back on their way.Note-AAA membership helped but their rates are reasonable.

Best mechanic in Rapid City I take all my vehicles there every time

On January 11th, 2018 my pick-up truck would not start due to frozen diesel filter (im from texas)and tried to get help from people around town and they just didnt bother helping! We were freezing our butts of in the negatives 20s waiting in the Sleep Inn hotel so i started making phone calls to different shops around town some where just outraged prices and got to the point of no hope at all i was in a rush to leave town had to proceed to my next pick up location!! I came across a shop thats call Black Hills Automotive spoke with the owner on the phone he told me he can help me out i just needed to get my truck towed to his shop so i found a cheap towing company and got it to the shop! Owner started looking around the truck getting it heated up checking my lines charged my battery amps up and after 45 minutes she started i was amazed he had gave me a price already so he put her back together and i was ready to pay and he told me this ( Everyone deserves a break once awhile get in your truck and get going)!!! I didnt just want to leave i wanted to pay something atleast he told me no!! Persons like these they are counted in this world! May god bless your family and your buisness sir !!! Thank you so much!!
