Interesting flavor combinations. I got the #1 sandwich: avocado, roasted garlic, radish, and charred grapefruit glaze (and I added a scrambled egg) on a zaatar bagel. Loved the crunch of the radish, the light sweetness of the grapefruit, and the garlic. Husband got the #9 with bacon. They sandwiches were quite messy to eat, a little too salty, and on the pricey side ($17.32 for two bagel sandwiches - each one had an extra add on, but still, and thats before tipping), but all in all a worthwhile trip. Theres plentiful parking spaces although we often park at an EV Charger about 0.7 miles away and walk over to Benchwarmers. Indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is friendly.
Not only are these easily the best bagels in NC (woodfired, chewy outside, good flavor from high quality flour), but the customer service is on point. They accidentally shorted me several bagels, and I couldnt make it back to pick up more, so they refunded me the whole thing. Definitely happy to do business with them again. All of their sandwiches are ridiculously good, but I legitimately crave their eggs and bacon on an everything bagel. It brings me back every 3-4 weeks. Also, I hail from Seattle, so huge coffee fan. They make some excellent espresso.
The holy grail of Bagel Sandwiches.A bagel sandwich so good you will spend the rest of your life dreaming every other bagel was a benchwarmer bagel. If you move away from Raleigh you will try to find another bagel that compares and fail. You will dream of ancient grain honey boiled goodness and wake up wishing you could just have Dukes mayo atop a cheesy egg again. You will see people eating other bagel sandwiches on the street and weep for their loss for they have not tried a benchwarmer bagel, and therefore not lived a full life.
Awesome. The line gets out of control and this place sells out fast. Plan ahead. Theyve got this bagel that sounds like it was made by bougie stoners, smoked fish, crushed chips, roe... Its won a special place in my heart. My kiddo loves getting the little butterscotch steamed milk thing and its freaking adorable to watch him have a latte with us, so I pretty much always grab one of those, too.
I got the BLT. Bacon, arugula, a tomato from heaven above, mayo from heaven above on a plain bagel with a iced vanilla latte. 😋 The BLT came as a recommendation from the guy helping me and a friend out. He said its something about the tomato they use that makes the BLT and maaaaaan was he telling the truth! The mayo, I dont know what type of mayo it was but it enhanced the flavor of the sandwich! Overall great buy! The place was nice and clean, staff was friendly. Masks are required, but there was plenty of space to distance yourself to sit and eat. Outside seating was also available. It was a beautiful day also which made it a even better experience.
Bagel shop located in Transfer Co. Food Hall a couple of blocks down from the center of downtown Raleigh. We love this place and the bagels are unreal. Highly recommend! Its very popular on the weekends so be prepared for a long-ish wait. Pics are the #1 add a scrambled egg, and the #7 fried bologna and scrambled egg.
These bagels are phenomenal. Since theyre wood-oven cooked, it gives a totally different experience and flavor profile and theyre inventive with their toppings and pairings. The coffee is great too. I dont think theres another place like this in the area so def stop by. Ive never been disappointed and look forward to coming back for more once I can, given my work schedule.
Sold out of all food at 1:00 p.m. I see this is common. Its a beautiful Saturday, this shouldnt happen.
A friend recommended this place to us when we were driving through Raleigh. When we saw it was in a food hall, we were sold.Covid-19: you can order and pay online. You pick up your food outside. The tables on the back patio were packed. There are a couple of tables on the front side and there was no one over there.A lot of their specialty bagel sandwiches sounded good, but we really want cream cheese on our bagels. We ended up getting an egg sandwich on a zataar bagel and added sausage and white cheddar. We got a side of Carolina reaper cream cheese which was a great addition. The bagel was our favorite thing we got at the food hall (which is saying a lot because everything was delicious). Ive never had a zataar bagel before and it was fantastic. I think being wood fired adds to the flavor. We also got a hot butterscotch drink. Unfortunately, we were given some kind of coffee drink at first, but they happily remade it for us. It was ok, but didnt have a very strong butterscotch flavor. If you like bagels, you definitely need to try these!
Benchwarmers is a great comfort breakfast/brunch option in Transfer Co Food Hall, just east of the heart of downtown Raleigh. Transfer Co tends to be the less busy food hall option in the area, but be warned its fairly popular on weekends. My favorite offerings are the egg bagel sandwich, the zaatar bagel, and the banana/peanut butter/marshmallow for a truly decadent dessert brunch.
I’ve gotten bagels and sandwiches here several times, as well as the pizza. So darn delicious. Today we had a lox bagel all the way on everything and a custom sandwich on zaatar with the reaper cream cheese. So good! Really appreciate these folks and what they’re doing. 10/10 thanks y’all.
Sooo good! Line is usually long but it moves quickly
Growing up in the north east Ive had some great bagels. These are the best Ive ever had. I go every chance I get. I just hate it when their out of bagels.
Best bagels in Raleigh! Great selection of bagels, cream cheeses, and sandwiches. Solid coffee too.
Stopped by Benchwarmers Bagels today and ordered the #6 Fried bologna, yellow mustard, scrambled egg, American cheese on an everything bagel. It was delicious! Very filling. A little messy with the beard but definitely worth every bite! The staff was also super friendly! I will most certainly be back and recommend yall grab yourself a bite if youre around the Transfer Co Food Hall!
Best Bagel Ive ever have. Fantastic quality and tastfulness. I got egg and bacon sesame bagel which was wonderful. Ill definitely come back again every weekend 🤗
Excellent crunch and soft center. Also love that they are not shy with seeds, bagel toppings, etc.
Bagels were great, unique cream cheeses! And being in a food hall means there’s so much seating! Fair prices too. Definitely coming back.
Please allow people to order online all of the business hours and by phone this would help with traffic and linesGreat serviceFrequent buyers should get rewards or coupons12 is alot for 1 bagel with tomato and arugulaBut they yummy
These bagels are big. Perfect for the sandwiches they’re making. Had the fried bologna and it was perfect and very filling
Heard the bagels were really good..they are good but nothing like a good NY bagel or another bagel shop in Raleigh..and for $21 a dozen...there are better choices in Raleigh....and Half of the dozen were burnt. Two of the partners started Boulted Bread which is fabulous....
Im from NY so bagels is hard to find in NC at least for me, so I was googling egg sandwiches near me and stumbled upon this place so I figured why not. I was really impressed on how good the bagels were. I got a bacon egg & cheese on everything bagel typical new yorker lol, but it reminded of back home. I definitely recommend this place especially any new yorkers thats in the area.
Not a chain but is just a local joint. Some of the best bagles, creative spreads, and breakfast sandwiches I have ever had anywhere in the country. This place has it together ❤
Best bagels in Raleigh, theres no competition! Richie was great and all the staff is very personable! Get there early they go quickly!
Nothing beats the zatar bagels. nothing. and really what keeps me coming back is the cardamom buns!!!! I discovered them in Sweden and this is the only place Ive found them! thank you for making something so special! also thx for serving good coffee too lol
This was one of the greatest bagel sandwiches I’ve ever had. I got the eggs (sunny) on an everything bagel with coy try ham and cheese and I immediately wanted another. The everything bagel was amazing and the egg was prepared to perfection. I’m not from here but I’ll probably try to visit this place again before I have to leave. The service was prompt, the folks were kind and the coffee was amazing. Couldn’t ask for better.
Truly visit here weekly. You wont find a better bagel in Raleigh. I like the ZAATAR with pimento cream cheese and white cheddar. Also a delicious chai
Heard about this place on Facebook so I had to check it out. The bagels are amazing. Cooked just right and they know how to do it. Im particular about bagels (NOT all bagels are created equal). Benchwarmers didnt disappoint. There was a wait, but being in the Transfer Co food hall made it okay. The coffee and lattes they serve are also fantastic. They had someone walking along the line asking customers if they had questions (to help streamline the wait) he recommended oat milk which was awesome. This is one of the top bagel places Ill go in the triangle.
Great bagel, delicious spicy honey cream cheese. Will stop again!
Best bagels around. Scrambled eggs are insanely good
My coworkers and I get a craving for BW for lunch at least once a week. Weather permitting, the stroll from downtown is pleasant, and the lox sandwich on an everything hits my spot. The staff are always courteous, even when Ive arrived too late for a bagel. Still get a coffee if I have to find a different bite. I only wish they had a customer-facing POS screen so I could tip on a card without anyone asking! I appreciate the quality above all.
Best bagels of my life! My kiddos love the hot butterscotch drink more than any other beverage. This is a superlative joint.
Consistently out of everything hours before they close. Pointless addition to the food hall.
Bagels are on point, quick and friendly service! The pimento cream cheese was amazing, can’t wait to go back and try one of the many other options.
I think it is safe to say that these are the best bagels I ever had. Soft, chewy and a nice smoky tone to them. A little bit more expensive but definitely worth the price. I will be back for more.
Amazing food and coffee. I had the egg sandwich and it was delicious. The staff are super friendly too! Cant wait to stop by for their pizza night.
After the 2020 closure of Katie Buttons infamous Asheville based Button and Co Bagel shop I was forced to turn to homemade bagels for my monthly fix of this delightful comfort food. I thought no where else in the southeast offered the heirloom grain, scratch made spreds and sandwich ingredients that were elevated and then harmonized in creative and mouthwatering bagel morsels. I was wrong. Benchwarmer Bagels sees Katies bagel and raises it better balance and bolder flavors. I must admit my perfect bagel has slightly more rise and slightly less chew, but Benchwarmer Bagels does everything right, and then some.
Benchwarmers just opened up in Transfer co, and it looks like we need more fresh bagel spots in Raleigh. I popped in on a Friday morning at 9:20 and was met with a 25 minute line. I had no where to be so I spent the time reading the menu and wondering how all these people had the time to wait for a bagel. Mind you, these things are delicious. I grabbed a bagel and cream cheese and a sandwich to go and was delighted once I finally got the chance to take a bite. The line was about 50 people long, and the girl behind me mentioned it was twice as long the previous day. If this keeps happening I hope they consider a second register. They had about 10-15 people working and once my order was in it wasnt a few minutes until they called name. There was a menu you could read while waiting, but also a paper menu at the front that seemed to slow people down. Overall stunning interior upfit, to die for bagels, and too close for someone not trying to eat a bagel a day! I advise trying to go at a weird time (check their insta for hours they seems to change daily and they do sell out) and planning at least 20 minutes of line waiting so you arent disappointed in these early weeks.
Great bagels fired in a wood-burning oven. They always run out so order ahead.
Best bagels Ive ever had, and Im from New York...
Theres so much to love about Benchwarmers bagels. First, their bagels by the dozen are priced in a way that makes it totally reasonable to get a really nice breakfast treat for your office, without breaking the bank. Second, on a mild Sunday morning, you cant do better than an iced Americano and a bagel sandwich on the patio. And if youre getting a bagel sandwich, you have to get the #5 smoked trout. There is no other sandwich. Okay, there are at least 5 other options, and a special, but really, the most important one is the fleeting #5. Creamy, smokey trout spread, smothered on a chewy fermented bagel, with the tang of a crunchy pickle and the crunch of potato chips, balanced with salty roe. mmmmmm I can taste it now... anyway, Ill be back.
The setup was confusing when first approaching. Someone was sitting at the bar area but we couldn’t order there. Instead you ordered outside (that’s fine).I ordered an everything bagel and a coffee. They only have milk to offer for the coffee and sugar in the raw. ?? I felt that was just completely lacking. The bagel was too soft and the dough didn’t taste like bagel dough. Having lived in NY I realize nowhere will make bagels the same as that, however...the dough was brown. :/ too soft and bland (even with the “everything”).The service was really good! They were very nice :) that definitely helped. Unfortunately, it still left much to be desired. If I was in a pinch and the only thing I could get for breakfast was this at this place, I probably would, just so I wouldn’t be hungry but I won’t go back. I also wouldn’t recommend. At best it is sub standard. Not terrible, just not great.
Great bagels! Even greater toppings/spreads. I had fun creating my own. My husband enjoyed the lox.Save your money: coffees were really bad. We couldn’t finish them. (Spend the money you saved on extra toppings!)Raleigh local recommended to us as a must go to breakfast spot. It was not clearly marked that pick up orders are out back of the large food hall during Covid times. The building itself says it doesn’t open until 11 (which was confusing when my order was 945a) LUCKILY so locals passing by new where to send me!
Great flavor everything bagel, reason for 4 stars though is two things. One, there is no option to warm or toast the bagel you want, so you get a room temp bagel or one that feels fresh out of the fridge. Pair that with cold cream cheese and its not nearly as appetizing as it could be. Two, only drinks you can order online are coffee and non-coffee which is just a chai option but you cant even order water. Again, great taste just a couple could of been better thoughts.
Best breakfast I had in a while!! 😍#9 was my favorite.
Benchwarmers bagels are the best Ive ever eaten outside of NYC. Their everything bagel egg sandwich with bacon and cheese is my monthly carbohydrate splurge. Warning: once you eat these bagels, all others will make you sad. There is no going back. Embrace your new bagel standard. Staff is super friendly, and there are great social distancing guidelines in place. Ive had only one visit where my order took a long time. The other dozens of times the ordering and pickup was fast and easy. LOVE this place!
Bench Warmers has a nice outdoor sitting area. It was a nice day so we took advantage of the weather. The sandwich was pretty good. I also had the coffee. Im sure some folks like it but being from out of town, I didnt care too much for it. Not a bad place to go, I think I was over sold on it.
Tender yet chewy. The zaatar bagel is especially delicious.
The breakfast sandwich was delicious! The bagel was just as it should be - crust on the outside, soft inside and not chewy.
Amazing bagels and espresso! Our household go-to is the zaatar bagels with the reaper cream cheese. The butterscotch latte is sweet without being overpowering.
Love that they have Pork Roll. Its hard for a Jersey native to find it in the south. Its the Sunday morning breakfast stop when Im here from Virginia visiting my son and his family!
The bagels were very unique & special. Based on what Ive learned of the owners story was transforming the skills & methods of bread baking to bagels. To me they were not identical to a classic NY style bagel but a great bagel nonetheless. Thats why they seemed unique to me. Mostly like a fancy artisan bread but in bagel form. The bagels still have a good chew but Im assuming its the flour that is the varient(in a good way). The cream cheese was abundant & delicious. My favorite was the Carolina Reaper (so much flavor w/ just enough spice)cream cheese and the Spiced Honey cream cheese. I also tried the Butterscotch Pecan cream cheese which I personally did not care for because it was very nutty. These bagels were a delicious experience & would highly recommend.
The bagels here are v good!
The most authentic and best bagel you’ll find in Raleigh. Can seem a little pricy, but it’s worth it for a great bagel and to support this great small business. Coffee is great as well! Go early, they’ll sell out (especially on the weekend)!
The bagels were fresh and had just the right amount of chewiness. Cant wait to go back!
Great service and delicious bagels!
Getting really slack! And don’t trust the time on the online order. I am very disappointed.
My favorite place at Transfer Food Hall. Never disappoints!
Tried the blueberry cobbler cream cheese, a seasonal special, and it was delish!
Honestly one of the best bagels Ive ever had. You truly cannot go wrong here. Their #8 is honestly a thing of dreams! Excellent coffee is just the cherry on top.
This was the 2nd time visiting Benchwarmers. The first time was excellent and I couldnt wait to go back. This 2nd time I got my breakfast and a dozen bagels to bring home. The bagels were not good. All of them were burnt. At this point it is a 50/50 for me. 1 excellent visit and 1 not good visit. Since it is out of the way for me, I am not sure if I will go back for a tie breaker. As far as recommending this place, I would warn everyone to check their bagels/sandwiches BEFORE they drive away. As long as the bagels are fresh, it should be good!
Exquisite bagels, and truly creative bagel sandwiches.
Everything here is delicious.
Ive been visiting Benchwarmers every single Sunday since they opened, so I feel as though I can write a complete review based on different experiences as well as items on the menu. The first few days of opening, they were SLAMMED. Im saying you had to get there an hour before they opened to have a chance at getting a bagel. For me this was to be expected, as there arent many bagel shops in the downtown area apart from Brueggers and Panera (that I know about, I could be wrong). I dont think it was possible for anyone to have know there would be THAT many customers at one time, and therefore the service was slow and they ran out of bagels which in turn lowered their ratings. They quickly learned to manage the crowds and make good predictions on how many staff members as well as bagels theyd need, and they havent really ran out of bagels since - I follow them on social media and see their posts when they do run out.The experience now is much more organized, theyre efficient while remaining friendly, and they do a great job at keeping the line happy - they offer free drip coffee while you wait!As for the food. Their bagels are PHENOMENAL. Im pretty basic and usually order a plain bagel and cream cheese wherever I go, so naturally I ordered this at Benchwarmers on one of my earlier visits and it was honestly better than any bagel Ive had before. I think this says a lot, because I had medium expectations going in - I didnt think you could really change the outcome of a basic bagel and cream cheese - but they proved me wrong! The bagel was baked to perfection and the cream cheese is definitely not store bought (they give you soooooo much cream cheese which is something I love). Ive also ordered a few sandwiches - the #1: Avocado, crispy garlic, radish, charred grapefruit glaze ($8) as well as the #3: Jambon Beuree - country ham, butter and cornichons (pickles) ($8). Both of these sandwiches are wonderful in their own ways, however the #3 is what prompted me to write this review - it is one of the best sandwiches Ive ever had. It has a perfect balance of salt from the ham, the sweetness of the butter and the crunch of the pickles. WOW. (I included a picture in the review)They also have great options for kids, and many other interesting sandwich and bagel/spreads to choose from. It really gives you control of how crazy or tame you want your bagel to be! Not to mention they are paired with Jubala!Summarized: yes the line can be long, however the wait isnt unbearable and once youve ordered, they have your bagel and coffee ready in minutes, plus free drip while you wait. The food is worth the wait in line, you wont be disappointed if you like more interesting options (or you can keep it classic)! Very family friendly, there are menu items for the kids as well. Super friendly staff and wonderful space.
Wonderful bagels/sandwiches. And pizza nights are to die for!
If you like either Jubala or Boulted Bread, you will love this place. They teamed up to create and excellent business together. All the bagels are wood fired on the spot and great for breakfast or lunch. The Bologna bagel sandwich with cheese and mustard will change your life. And you will also find the same top-notch quality of coffee that you’ve come to expect from any of the Jubala locations.
Great bagel and a cool atmosphere.
Cardamom buns are soooo delicious!
Unique and delicious bagel sandwiches - absolutely love the Za’atar bagel. Highly recommend the farm cheese and pepper jelly but add bacon because...I mean do I have to explain why you should add bacon to anything? Just do it. Check out the specials too because it’s generally creative and tasty- works really well for brunch bc enough very breakfast flavors but also very lunchy type options too. Whenever we have friends in town, this is a hands down go to spot for food, and I always try to find reasons to go otherwise 😜
Benchwarmers Bagels provided a fantastic bagel service for our family gathering on Sunday, Oct 6. It was perfect in every way! We worked with Sarah and the rest of the Benchwarmers team in advance, and they provided exactly what we needed quantity-wise, and exactly what we hoped for and expected quality-wise for our 60-person family get-out-of-town bagel service. Sarah and the chef helped in planning and developing a custom service that fit our needs made us feel really good about where we finally ended up. Sarahs service from beginning to end was patient, informative, pressure-free, guiding, and easy to work with. And the delivery and set up service was really good too. Andrew was friendly and organized, AND he set up picture-worthy platters, including their custom made fruit platter. Needless to say, the bagels, spreads, and sandwiches were spectacular! The spectacular service from Sarah, the chef and Andrew and the fabulous food from Benchwarmers makes it easy for us to give them company a 5-star rating!
Greatest bagel place Ive discovered in 20+ years. Everything they create with a bagel has been absolutely perfect. Drinks are a bit modern/hipster, but theres plenty of places around to get standard drinks, the focus here is their bagel quality which is top notch.
Delicious selection of bagels and cream cheeses! Their maitre d cream cheese is like a fancy scallion option, and their sweet cream cheese options are fabulous as well. They have a variety of baked goods and sandwiches to choose from as well. For folks who don’t know this shop is inside of a food hall so if you are driving up it is not a stand-alone store type situation.
This place is the real deal. I cant say enough amazing things about Benchwarmers. One of my favorite spots to take my family, my clients, or just myself. Fantastic food and coffee drinks, great ambiance, and always a smile. A must-visit when youre in Raleigh.
Best bagel shop in NC.
Loved the Bologna, scrambled egg and mustard on everything sandwich.
Great bagels! I got a traditional egg sandwich with egg and bacon and a bagel flight. The cream cheese spreads were delightful. The Carolina Reaper (hot) and hot honey were my favorites.
Best bagels and coffee in Raleigh!Love the cardamom pastry!
Finally better than mediocre bagels in Raleigh. They are absolutely on par with bagels from NY/NJ.I absolutely want to try every sandwich on the menu. Its hard to decide and Im determined to try them all. They also dont skimp on the bagel toppings and the coffee is fantastic. The line gets long but goes fairly quick. Benchwarmers is a wonderful addition to Raleigh.
Benchwarmers Bagels is one of the appealing eating places at Transfer Co Food Hall, downtown Raleigh.Yummy & CREATIVE sandwiches on assorted bagels. Ate under the bluest sky with Marigold yellow umbrellas...tables scattered around the patio.Great...quiet...relaxjng...with easy conversation.Do try one of the eateries...til youve enjoyed them all!
Overall the bagels here are pretty good. The best deal is their combo with a plain bagel, plain cream cheese, and a coffee. Otherwise everything seems quite expensive ($4+ iced coffee, $12+ bagel sandwiches). Our bagels were good but they were both a little bit burnt. Definitely better than a lot of other bagels in the area but still not quite as good as I was expecting.
The #3 on everything is my, If I could only have one bagel sandwich for the rest of my life, bagel. We all have one. The price is right, theyre efficient even when super busy, which they usually are. The service is friendly. The quality is beyond other bagel offerings in the Triangle and theyre conveniently located downtown in a food hall that caters to almost any other food craving you can think of, in case someone in your crew just aint feeling bagels. Havent had there coffee offerings, but I dont doubt theyre tasty. Best business 2019.
Absolutely delicious bagels, great spreads, excellent coffee
Deliciousness!!!! We loved visiting here for their bagels while we were in Raleigh. The location is really cute and staff were all very friendly. I highly reccomend the everything bagel with bacon, egg and cheese. It was so great!
Ordered before they opened at 7:55 am. Get a text confirmation that my order for 4 bagels will be ready at 8:35 am. 8:35 comes and goes, 8:40 comes and goes, and people who have walked up with orders are receiving their food before me. Y’all make great bagels but having to wait almost an hour for 4 bagels is just unacceptable.
I love this place. The bagels can be rock hard at times but overall they have great sandwiches. The reason I do not like this place and don’t recommend it is because they NEVER have bagels left. I’m not sure if the 6am crew comes in they don’t think to restock but they at least need to close themselves on Postmates because this is the 4th time I’ve ordered just for me to find out they have no bagels left. I guess you need to be an early riser to catch a bagel at this place or just not go at all.
Joint venture of two of my favorite Raleigh institutions: Boulted Bread and Jubala Coffee. This used to be in my regular rotation before the pandemic. Since then, Benchwarmers has done an outstanding job of allowing online ordering and social distance safe pickup procedures. It probably goes without saying, but the coffee and bagels (and bagel sandwiches) are amazing. I’m not going to do one of those reviews where someone says I’m from NY (I am) and that I know my bagels (I do, a little too much for my own good) - because frankly Benchwarmers bagels don’t remind me of NY bagels. They remind me of Boulted Bread and that’s a very very good thing. It’s best to think of them as their own category and then feel unbelievably lucky that Raleigh has this talented group making such delicious things.
Really great bagel but a little pricey. Took awhile to get my online order, but it was packed so not their fault.
