I recently ordered two textbooks. When I went to pick them up, they had given me one wrong textbook and left out one that I needed. I was in a rush and had to go to class. This was about four days after the add drop deadline. Two days later, I went to return it. When I talked to the sales associate, an older, gray haired lady, I was told that since it was past the add/drop deadline, all returns had ended. I am confused why thats the policy because I had picked up my books before the deadline... so how was I supposed to return books for a deadline before I even had them? I tried to explain my situation to this lady, but she was brash and rude. She would not budge and would not bother to help me. I left holding back tears. I got in another line, not knowing what to do other than try to sell my book back to the store. This was a $200 textbook I had been charged for, and I really cant afford to just lose that kind of money. Marlee, another associate, listened to my dilemma. She was so sweet and understanding and helped me out. She is the epitome of what a sales associate should be. I was very disappointed and frustrated with the older, gray haired lady, and I wish she could have been less rude to me. Moral of the story... I wish that the store would better work with their employees on helping them and their situations rather than brushing them off. But to Marlee-- thank you SO much.

I had to get a textbook at the bookstore that was a little difficult to find so I went to there at a time that would be less crowded, knowing I might burden the worker I was going to work with. But she was so kind and willing to help me with the process. I still remember her name because of it (s/o to Alaina if she still works there). I had many other experiences like this at the Bookstore. Most everyone is willing to help with a smile on their face, even though they work long hours with multiple people everyday. I’m grateful for them! The environment of the shop is also nice and easy to find the things you’re looking for.

Not sure why, but BYU Book Store decided to automatically order textbooks for me (and everybody I’ve asked as well). I could not cancel the order. My account was automatically charged for a bunch of books I did not want/need. The only option was to wait in the ridiculous line to get the books, to then wait in the long return line to return them. The line for returns was the exact same line as to return them, because everybody else there was doing the same thing. I’m not sure if this was BYU’s genius idea of “helping” their students, or trying to scam them out of a few extra hundred dollars.

Okay… I’m not super thrilled with the Book Store right now. Got an email today saying that “my order went though.” What order? I didn’t order anything. They have this new program where they automatically charge students for their required books. You can cancel it BUT they also took down the BYU book exchange website. There is no way for students to get a fair price on books now. This place only wants money. It’s honestly repulsive.

DO NOT RENT TEXTBOOKS FROM THE BOOKSTORE! On your booklist it will say that they are cheapest to rent from the bookstore but they are lying. I think they intentionally only list the price to buy the books, used or new, on Amazon, because if they listed the rental price on Amazon everyone would see that all textbooks are cheaper there, without fail. Just copy and paste the ISBN into Amazon and look for rentals, you will find them for cheaper, and much easier to return too.

Personally, I’ve never once had any problems at the BYU store, and I’ve been going there pretty regularly since 2013. Like any college store, there’s plenty of stuff that’s marked up a little higher than retail value, but they have a decent selection. The staff has always been helpful and courteous. Their website functionality sometimes leaves something to be desired, but the store itself is great.

It might be silly but my girlfriend and I love to walk through here and look at all the things we want to buy someday. There are awesome artworks for sale downstairs that are religious in nature. I love looking at those. They also have books from the BYU religious study center that I don’t think you can buy elsewhere. They always have some sort of sale on BYU gear. There is a rack next to the west door with discounted chocolate and candies that is worth checking out. The employees are very friendly and helpful. This is probably one of my favorite stores. They have a nice online pickup set up upstairs that is very functional except during the first week or so of classes so don’t try it during that time period.

Please please do not rent textbooks from the BYU bookstore. Even though they say they offer the lowest prices and do price match, they do not have the infrastructure to handle returns. You will wait upwards of 2.5 hours just to return your rentals at the end of the semester. They also will not do free return shipping labels. Rent your books on Amazon and save yourself the headache.

I have both shopped and worked at the BYU Store out of necessity. This store exists to rip students off and cater to the wealthy. Everything is overpriced, particularly the textbooks, and the sell back program is a joke. I have a $120 textbook from them and they offered me $8 if I sold it back to them. Literally just go through Amazon to buy or sell, its so much easier and so much more clear and they will not try to rip you off.

Just a few days ago, I called in with a few questions and again I was treated rudely, as if my questions and concerns were a major inconvenience to those working there. Almost every time Ive called in before I have had similar results. Maybe it makes sense that customer satisfaction isnt a concern since the BYUstore cant exactly go out of business, yet it really is sad that there is such a clear misunderstanding between the treatment of customers here and the principles that the university is based on. Many of the employees are BYU students and until they and the BYU store administration show evidence that student customers deserve respect, I will do my best to no longer support this business in any way. The BYU Store is annoying. Also who actually calls it The BYU Store? I ordered an in stock used textbook, they ran out, and charged me extra to get a new one. All they sell is over priced BYU gear now. Its ridiculous. Everyone except the people at the candy counter are grouchy and preoccupied. Better management and pay would probably do wonders.

The customer service could be way better. I was Caller number 1 and was still put on hold for 7+ minutes. I’ve had this happen multiple times. With the longest being 30 minutes!I was Calling about an online order that I chose to pick up in the store instead of having it shipped to me. I did this hoping it would be faster but when I called (After a week of having placed the order) they said it would be about another week or so before they could process the order and I could pick it up. So if you’re tryin to order something as a gift, I would do it a month in advance because they’re not super reliable on the delivery/pickup timeframe. The sales are great, but that’s the only time I’d buy their merchandise. It’s better to buy BYU gear at Walmart or Costco. It’s a little too expensive.

The candy counter is definitely the best part, it has a wide selections of chocolates and non-chocolates too! Designed for a college students budget, so its affordable too :)

I try not to buy my textbooks there anymore if I can help it. I bought a text book and tried to return it within twenty minutes of my purchase because I realized that I wanted to buy a kindle from the bookstore instead and they would not refund me my money. Apparently they stop giving any refunds for books about a week or so into the semester however they didnt tell me about this till I tried to get a refund. I even talked to the head of the bookstore for about a half hour and he would still not refund my money or give me in store credit even though I intended to buy a kindle with it at their store. He had the power to give me a refund but told me that if he made an exception for me he would have to make an exception for everyone. Stupid business move in my opinion since Ive been buying most of my books on amazon ever since.

I spent like 3 hours looking for the BYU Bookstore and ended up here instead. A great alternative to the BYU Bookstore if youre looking for something local!
