Definitely a must experience hidden gem! This is the kind of place that makes everyone feel like a local: counter service only, 15 stools, and every dish makes you wish that it wasnt bad manners to lick your plate. The flapjacks are killer, the french toast is perfect and the eggs always come out exactly how you want them. Oh, and get there early if you want some awesome corned beef hash. And you know what? Go ahead and lick the plate. Itll be worth the embarrassment.

My son took us to this diner two years ago and we had an awesome experience. Just went again this year. So small inside the old rail car you can almost touch your breakfast plate after the cook sets it on the shelf and alerts the waitress. Genuine home cooking. The banana bread was so rich and the corned beef hash was like huge chunks of beef. Old style sock hop music was playing to enhance the atmosphere. The wait was around an hour on a Saturday morning, but so worth it.

Cute little old school diner. Very limited, counter-only seating, so expect to wait unless youre alone. High prices ($10 for 2 eggs, potatoes, and toast. Coffee not included.) and I feel it took far longer than expected. Potatoes were pretty dope, enough to keep a fair rating.

Small menu, big taste. I had the pleasure of having the lumberjack and everything on the plate (pancakes, bacon, scrambles eggs, palace potatoes) was top notch. The pancakes were light and fluffy with some crispiness on the edges. They also had a nice taste of lemon zest in the batter. The palace potatoes were fried crispy perfection, salted perfectly and distinct enough to be enjoyed on there own.The eggs were light and fluffy and mixed with a delicious cheese which was not specified on the menu but very welcomed. The prices are reasonable given the quality and portions. The staff were warm and informative and the general vibe of the place was hopping. Supported by energetic music from the 50s, sixties, and 70s.The only real negative would be the amount of seats and seating arrangement, which was in line seating. Not a great place to have a casual meal.Expect to wait for to the small seating area. It read raining when we are so maybe more outdoor seating opens up when its nicer, but make sure to come early and hungry.A must stop if you find yourself in the area.

An actual diner, not just some restaurant with diner in the name. Counter seats only, you will wait, and if you dont, your loss. Excellent breakfast sandwich on an English muffin thats been griddled to buttery, toasty, golden-brown perfection. Far better than average coffee, and quick friendly service. Can only speak for breakfast, and rue not getting some pancakes, but an absolute gem overall with far greater than average diner fare.

My partner and I had lunch there on Friday. It was lovely. Eating there feels like traveling back in time. The staff are wonderful (so friendly and helpful). The food is great. We both got a burger and fries. They have an interesting assortment of beers. My partner had a great beer and I had fresh squeezed orange juice and an interesting and delicious mint, ginger ale. I highly recommend this place. Great atmosphere, awesome staff, and lots of charm.

The restaurant has decent food but is grossly overpriced! $8 for a piece of French toast, nothing else. I don’t mind paying $8 for a French toast meal but other than the piece of bread being oversized there was nothing special with the food. I had a coffee which tasted like sewage water that had been burnt and the place had flies all over. The best part of the place is the music as it is over priced and run down.

Best breakfast in the Portland area, hands down. This is not your typical diner; this is novelty fine-dining wrapped in a diner facade (complete with the best pancakes I think Ive ever had). We had French toast and egg salad but the French toast was thick and soggy with egg in the middle. Both my boyfriend an eye felt like we had a touch of food poisoning several hours later. Excellent food and wonderful staff working in a small but authentic diner car. Simply one of New Englands best diners. Well worth the wait: theres a cute Park next door where you could sit and wait with a cup of coffee. You can park in the lot next door just be sure to pay at the kiosk. They are cash only but an ATM is nearbyIve been coming here since 2004, a few years before the current crew came on board. Heres what I found over several visits:The Corned beef hash is outstanding as are the flapjacks. The palace diner potatoes that come with eggs are a delight. I dont know how they do it what they are perfection in a potato skin. The eggs are phenomenally well seasoned and cooked perfectly. And, if you ask nicely, they will put chocolate chips in the flapjacks. They come with real maple syrup. What more could you ask?

Late on a Sunday morning, Palace was about a 15-30 minute wait for two of the fifteen or so counter seats. Thats all that is in there for seating. Food was amazing, menu small but capable of satisfying, and at least two items I did not get this time are on my list for next time... The fried chicken and the palace burger. But my flapjacks and potatoes and eggs were very satisfying... maybe the best pancakes Ive had in a long time. But, alas, so much food and only so much space.
