Nice seating in the middle of downtown. Even the small waffle cone was a very large portion. Great variety of flavors, just like a Ben and Jerrys scoopshop. Try the fruit drinks.

Best ice cream and waffle cup Ive ever had in my life. Very friendly staff, and was able to speak with the young girl that was making the fudge on the table she was so polite and very knowledgeable she actually took the time out on her busy day to explain the process of the fudge making.

Kilwins made our personalized chocolates for our wedding favorites for this coming July and we are over the moon about them. They are everything that we wanted and more. The price point was perfect and the communication to make them was even better. Janette did a wonderful job with helping us. John gave us our chocolates when we picked them up. The service is outstanding. We live 2+ hours away and drove purposely to get good quality chocolates. Thank you Kilwins!!!

3 big fans of Kilwins here! I was in Portsmouth for a long weekend and visited twice with my kids. We loved the ice cream and the cones are superb, they are the crispy waffle style. Friendly staff and owner. Actually we made a third stop there when we picked up some fudge for the car ride home to NJ. I warmly recommend the sea salted caramel.

Honestly was in the shoppe for thirty seconds and won’t go back. It was our first time, and we walked in the door and waited in line quietly, and was immediately met with disrespect. The sign he claimed we “CLEARLY didn’t see” wasn’t visible when we walked in, as another customer held the door for us. Honest mistake. It happens. I understand the stress of the current pandemic. I know they are often treated disrespectfully by customers asked to leave because of the limit, we weren’t those type of people. I fully welcome the stern approach if you have to say it multiple times, but I was seriously put off by not feeling comfortable coming back inside the store after his cold welcome. Pun intended.**edit**: this review was a direct reflection of my experience here, not an effort to damage or attack a business. I really appreciate you taking the time to read and address this, and thank you for making an effort to help both your customers and reduce the stress on your employees!

I understand that due to COVID businesses are operating in an unknown, alien way. Nevertheless, I walked inside with some friends. As we walked we waited for a bit in line, trying to decide which flavor to get. An employee who wasn’t busy with a customer walked up to us, and said “So, clearly you did not read the sign on the door. We have a 6 customer limit so you need to go wait outside.” He was very rude and impolite. I understand the seriousness of COVID, but he could have been much kinder in his request to ask us to wait outside. We walked out and decided to just leave.

We stopped into Kilwins tonight and for the second time in a row we experienced a very rude associate. I understand with COVID there are very specific guidelines business are trying to follow for the safety of employees and staff.. As I walked through the door the associate yells “we have a 6 person max, you need to wait outside” the snappy attitude was unnecessary. Its difficult to see how many people are in the store without walking in. When I walked inside after a woman left there were already 6 people in the store anyways. That was our last visit to Kilwins.

Yummy ice cream. Not a ton of places to sit inside but we were still able to fit comfortably next to a college gymnastics team who evidently also wanted ice cream in the middle of winter! Great selection and delicious waffle cones. I had 2 scoops of a chocolate marshmallow flavor and it was almost too much but also I could eat a whole pint of it myself! Their chocolates looked great but were a bit pricey.

Went in and asked what ice cream we wanted. My husband placed his order. The server did not get it. Another worker came over took my order, I received mine. Husband still waited. The first serve went on to another customer behind us! Very rude! Another server came over asked for my husband’s order, the first server told her to go to another customer. Service was awful and ice cream was gross!! Never again!!

My daughter is a professional actress and we travel extensively... we come across many a wonderful respite for tasty victuals..but there is only one place her ice cream and fine chocolate loving palate is loyal to and that is Kilwins in Portsmouth, NH. Comparatively speaking..they are the best! Their ice cream has an extra freshness to its taste and is more flavorful than any other ice cream we have tried. Same goes for their chocolates..The owner is very often in the shoppe making peanut brittle and her son John makes a malted chocolate frappe complete with whip cream and a chocolate dusting that is as close to edible euphoria as it gets! Kilwins idyllic setting in this quaint mini seacoast setting is the cherry on top of this dream come true ice cream and chocolate shop!

Came in to Kilwins with a group of friends for ice cream and ended up recieving unnecessary attitude from a male worker. Completely understand that he could have been tired or not in the best mood, but there was a much better way of approaching us with the fact that only 6 people were allowed in the store. We came in unknowingly that only 6 people were allowed when the worker said Clearly you didnt read the sign before you entered. We went outside politely and even apologized to him. I understand that COVID is causing some of the mishap and the procedures are different, but it was very unnecessary to react that way.We love trying new places, but not yours 🧚🏼✨ Pun Intended.

Kilwins has the specific fine confections that you need, for prices you should not be shocked by. Dont confuse this place with a simple candy store, Kilwins products are high quality and are priced accordingly. Ill come here to buy small quantities of certain truffles and interesting fudges. Their ice cream, on the other hand, is easily obtainable at other shops for a more reasonable price. You deserve a little bit of Kilwins every once in a while.

Good chain ice cream shop, with locations from Florida to the Carolinas to the west coast. The milkshakes are good, and the ice cream is pretty standard. Maybe a little pricey but the quality is very high.

OMG. Just tried one of their chocolate ice cream cakes (was a birthday present). Just wow. My wife and I agreed it was the best weve ever had. Crazy good. Yes, $60 for a cake is eye-wateringly expensive (just looked it up on their website), but geez, its the kind of cake youd get for dessert in a very high end restaurant. So I suppose if you look at it that way, for a special occasion, you could treat your dinner guests to one hell of an amazing dessert! Its simply perfect.

This ice cream is the best that I have had in an ice cream shop. It rivals Ben & Jerrys flavors. My favorite is the Kilwins Tracks. I go here for ice cream in all seasons of the year. There is some seating, but not a lot, which isnt a problem in the summer since there are benches outside! There are also LOTS of chocolates and candies here. This is definitely an amazing sweet tooth trap.

Kilwins was good. It had seating, free water and AC. Everything you need for a hot summer day. It does have the scent of Carmel and waffles in the air, so if pregnant maybe not the best place for you. Loved it here otherwise!

Extremely friendly staff that helped with my very large order. Iced coffees were made from freshly pulled espresso. The candy, and especially fudge and caramel apples, were amazing.

Ice cream is superb! So many homemade choices! Tons of chocolates and other sweet treats as well. Staff is very accommodating with samples and the like.

*Drool* Oh man, does this place ever smell awesome. That door opens and you are hit by the smells of baking chocolate and waffle cones and a bunch of other great things. The fudge was tempting, but it was pretty warm out, so I opted for the ice cream and I was not disappointed. This is the sort of place that if you are in the area, its well worth a detour. If you have small kids (or are just a slow eater) make sure to get your ice cream in a bowl rather than a cone or you will have a big mess on your hands.

Good ice cream just my son was upset that they only served one size (which was quite big for a kid) of each cone/cup too much for my kid. I know kids like ice cream as a treat just not that much.

Mind blowing candy items!

I used to come here for their chocolate covered caramel apples, but got a lousy one last time, with barely any chocolate, and the manager gave me the cold shoulder. For almost $10, this is a real rip-off. The cones are also ridiculously expensive. If you have kids, be prepared to spend $20-30 for ice cream. A much better option is to go to Market Basket, use that same money to buy 6 or 7 pints of your favorite flavors, and have a much better ice cream at home.

My kids love it here during summer with their generous servings of ice cream that come in variety. Of course the chocolates and other candies are just as dangerous for us adults every time we stop by.I ll be honest, the quality of ice cream to me isnt as good as natural ice cream like Anabelles but its not horrible either. Their chocolate is decent but nothing out of this world. Great place to get gifts of course. Friendly staff and great service.

I first discovered Kilwins while on vacation in Portsmouth. The store is well suited to such a lovely town! Chocolate, Ice Cream, what could be better? It is a family run venture (the day I went the owners Mom was handing out samples!) the next day her husband and son were serving the ice cream. Everyone was so nice! Last year was their first year in business and I hope they are thriving. I look forward to a return visit the next time Im in town... Well worth a look see!

Cute chain ice cream shop serving big-box ice cream and hand made waffle cones. The ice cream was ok, the cones were delicious, and the staff was warm and efficient. This is a good compromise for an urban location, but it will never compare to ice cream you get at a farm creamery.

My husband and I visited while we were on vacation from Texas. This is premium ice cream; you pay a bit more, but its worth every penny. Before returning home, I purchased a selection of hand-made confections as hostess gifts. My friends loved the chocolates as much as I did. Clean store and friendly staff...give it a try.

There are no words to explain how creamy and rich the ice cream is. Plus they are open all year so how can you go wrong?? The fudge is pretty good and the candies are yummy, but the ice cream is the reason to go.

If you ask my dad, whos favorite food is ice cream, what his favorite ice cream place of all time is, its Kilwins. I defy you not to order a waffle cone after smelling them baking fresh as you walk in and there are a zillion fudge flavors to choose from if thats your thing. I had the chocolate caramel cashew ice cream which means chocolate ice cream with caramel sauce and chocolate coated cashews mixed in. So good.

The ice cream is awesome! You can sit inside in the air conditioning or outside on the benches.

Such a variety of chocolate its not even funny! My husband and I each got a candy apple, a chocolate pecan morsal and a chocolate pretzel for the little one. Everything was great, definitely very expensive, a once in a while type place!
