Guy is an incredible Luthier. The man literally builds his uniquely beautiful guitars from the ground up and there are literally no other guitars in the world like the ones he creates. I love his spin on the Telecaster look but his guitars are really next level instruments. He also does great repair work and always puts the customer first. My guitar and bass sounds incredible because of the makeover he gave them. Ill keep coming back.Highly recommended.
Loved working with Guy. I have a low end Martin acoustic, which has still been a very nice guitar for me for 15 years. Im at a crossroads with it, so to speak, but he was able to sit with me and triage the work I had potentially envisioned to maximize its usable life. We decided to upgrade the nut and bridge and cleaned up the neck. We did not replace the frets or the sunken top, which would have put me at the price of a new low end Martin acoustic. The result: Guitar looks and sounds great and plays great up to the 12th fret, where it bows down sharply; a most mutual understanding. And I saved some $$ with his honest negotiating.Additionally, he quoted me several potential times that he would likely finish working on the guitar and called me days earlier than the earliest of those times. Next stop, the grand puzzle of my collection :-)
Very glad to have found Guy at Luminous. I have taken my old Alvarez acoustic to 2 different shops to have the neck straightened and generally tuned up, and each one made it slightly worse than the last. This guitar is my baby, so I would have played it broken in half, but Guy managed to restore it to better than when I got it. Thank you!!
I came to Guy at Luminous Guitars for a small job of modifying my Gibson SG to accommodate larger bridge post bushings. I was able to pick up my guitar after two days, exactly when he said he would have it finished. The drillings were done well and his labor pricing is more than fair. When I met with Guy, he was friendly, approachable, and professional when talking about the business end of what I needed done. He then took the time to answer some questions I had, talk about guitars, and showed me some of the beautiful Telecaster-style guitars that he made. I will definitely return to Luminous Guitars for any future repairs or mods that I need done.
Ive been putting this review off for a while. Im saddened to leave this mildly negative review because the owner is very nice and speaks very professionally and I really want to help local business but in this case I was let down :(I got a real used Warwick Corvette for a great price at Guitar Center. It was dirty, old strings and didnt really sound great and since it was my first Warwick I wanted to make sure that the first setup was perfect so after looking around I found Luminous Guitars. I called him and asked if he was knowledgeable on Warwick basses and he said he was but hadnt worked on my particular model but that he absolutely could give me a great setup at a good price ($60) and make it sound great again so I went with it.A week goes by and I head to pick it up. Once inside he pulls the bass out of the case and i checked it out. Still dirty. Old strings. Still doesnt sound great. He says that he set it up to spec but honestly it looked like he hadnt really done anything :(He then adjusted the neck a bit (THE ONLY THING THAT I SAW HIM DO) and I retuned it and still bad. It was clear that not much was done here. The intonation was still off and the bass just sounded really muddy (unplugged). It sounded and felt like the only change was the string height which still had fret buzz :( he said he was stumped.I expressed my disappointment and he said that he would just charge me his bench fee (hourly rate) which was $50. He did say that if I was able to get it sounding right to let him know what it was. I didnt call him :)As it turns out the saddles were unlocked completely and I assume that mixed with the super old strings and wrong string height and incorrect intonation made for an almost unplayable bass because after all of that was fixed It now plays really great!Guy was very professional and seemed to be knowledgeable of all of the high end woods used in the bass and used terminology associated with being a luthier and I was under the impression that the bass would sound great and it just didnt.I hope others have better luck with him.
