Vegan food that is pleasant on the eyes and taste buds. The tacos and tiger tenders were awesome. The only complaint from our entire group was the restaurant was very hot inside and it got uncomfortable very quick. If I had to guess, Id say the temperature was probably around 76 degrees inside the restaurant. We could not wait to get outside and get some fresh air.
Yummy vegan food! They are a little cheaper than Zest for dinner. They have free parking. One of the waitresses were super accommodating for me. I had my dog with me and asked if I could hand her my card outside and get my food handed to me outside and she was able to do that. I wish I knew her name so that I could give a shout out to her! I was traveling from Texas and didnt have anywhere else to leave my dog while getting food so it was really nice to have understanding people that were still willing to make sure that I could get my vegan food! THANK YOU!
Super delicious, I had the dude cakes. The gravy is insane. I have high standards coming from LA as a vegetarian foodie and I give this place five stars for sure. Also the service and staff was very good, super friendly and polite. I also like how that help each other out it was very good teamwork. Ill be back.
So good! Fully vegan restaurant with great staff, great service, and great food! The pancakes were amazing! They were like classic dinner pancakes and its been so long since Ive had pancakes that good! We got the avalanche and the breakfast burrito. Would definitely come here again to try their lunch and dinner options!
This place is legit! We ordered The Avalanche and The Mountain and both were super tasty. The gluten free pancakes, the tempeh bacon, breakfast sausage, the tofu scramble, the hash were all amazing. I could eat a tower of those pancakes, easy. 🥞🥞🥞Awesome spot for a fully vegan that even the most vegan skeptic would enjoy, and great gluten free options. Stoked to come back and try more things.
Even if the food was good it’s not the worth the beating you receive from the service. They prioritize online orders over people attending the restaurant. Such a poor experience I will be going out of my way to tell people not to come here.
Food was great, service was a little strange. She forgot we ordered and came back to ask for our order again. We told her that we already ordered and she asked who took our order. It was her!
The food is very average, at least what we ordered. My sandwich had barely any tempeh (which was supposedly “blackened” but looked pale and unseasoned) and was comparable Subway.. kind of disappointing. The fries were good, though. The staff was friendly, but our server gave us the bill before we even finished dinner. We had anticipated getting dessert, but we paid and left because we felt rushed and awkward since the bill was already on the table. The outdoor seating was nice, and the music was my taste (haha), so it gets an extra star.
Service and food were outstanding. Was very impressed with how delicious the food is. I am not a vegetarian, but I was blown away at how good the food is. I highly recommend dining here and youll be surprised at how tasty your meal is and how your belly, body and spirit feel nourished and fulfilled. You wont regret giving this eatery a try. Im sure you will return again. Whether an omnivore or vegan, youll enjoy the experience. Stop reading this and get you soul some great eats.
Seriously in love with this place! Everything is so good! I recommend the breakfast burrito, and the Ian burger. I’m obsessed, my friend and I went here for breakfast and dinner! The employees have always been so friendly as well. Would recommend for all vegans, vegetarians, and anyone wanting to try something different.
Ordered the following items for myself and a friend to go and was very disappointed:- Magical Wok x 2 (Small portion size, flavor is lacking and the taste is bland. Where is the salt?)- Mushroom Stroganoff (Where is the stroganoff or the mushrooms?)- Mac & Cheese Bowl (this wasn’t too bad, I probably liked this the most)Overall, in my opinion, definitely did not meet up expectations or reviews. Definitely not worth the price. Can make better vegan food at home.
Wonderfully tasty food. Pleasant ambiance. A definite recommend. Vegan and gluten-free friendly.
Everything was super delicious! Was just passing through and Im happy I chose this lol spot to dine in at. I didnt realize at first that they had outdoor seating but it wasnt too busy inside. All the staff was friendly, especially our waiter who was super bubbly and helpful. Made it a more fun experience.
Food good, service bad. Based on reviews, I had high expectations for this place but the service tanked my experience here. Took forever to be seated, sat for five minutes without anyone taking my drink order, had to work to flag someone for anything I needed. Never was checked on after my food was arrived. Brought me marinara sauce when I asked for red sauce for my breakfast burrito. When I walked in, the servers were dealing with another customer who alleged that he had also received bad service-- being sat after someone else when he walked in first, waiting too long to get his food, being ignored. It seemed like it was definitely an off day for the staff which is a shame because the breakfast burrito was actually really delicious.
Seriously...please come to the east coast....will drive a few hours for your food!
This is a real diner, with a global twist. And it is all plant-based/vegan. The service was good. We had a spicy Magical Wok with brown rice & tofu, a Tony Hawk sandwich, a side of mac & cheese, the Thai Potato Pizza, tiramisu, and a french toast. I loved the mac & cheese & the french toast. The tiramisu was good but heavy. The Thai Potato Pizza unfortunately may have been overcooked & was dry so we did not get a taste of its sauce & would probably eliminate that in the future. The restaurant has its own parking.
The Brownies are awesome; they have a perfect balance of sweetness. The food is great too, as is the staff.
It was good! Their pancakes are really nice, and their menus is the most vegan friendly Ive ever seen. All sorts of flavors and I found them tasty🙇🏽♀️. Their menu also had a VERY wide variety of options. They seem to have a little bit of everything 😅. Overall it was very nice 🙌🏼
The food and the service where great, even at the very end of the day. I know sometimes arriving near closing time at a restaurant is not ideal, but it went very well in every aspect. The server even filled me in on other good vegan options in town. Id look forward to going back any time.
Whenever I travel it always seems impossible to find good vegan food, or vegan food at all. I’m seriously thankful this place exists and it’s the best vegan breakfast I’ve ever had. This was a great way to start my trip to SLC. Highly recommend .
All I can say is ... YUM! Fun diner on a fun street. I loved visiting vertical diner while in Utah. The food was delicious and the service was lovely. The nachos and Thai noodle bowl were SO GOOD! We had to order 3 dishes and an appetizer between 2 people because we couldn’t decide what to get. They also have tons of gluten free options! 10/10 recommend.
This place is amazing! I got the tacos and they were phenomenal. The cilantro-lime vinaigrette for the salad is also so good. I will definitely be returning here many times in the futures!
The chicken sandwich was super good 😍 I will definitely be coming back to this place.
I’ve been getting the cubano and Mac and cheese lately it’s really an authentic cheese taste. I often look at the food pics from here obsessively and think about the next time I’ll go. I’ve been going to VD or formerly sages for decades. Can’t wait for next visit.
Glad vertical is still open. Nice to have vegan options in SLC.
I was excited to try this place but after I got takeout, I was pretty disappointed. My fries were cold and soggy and the dipping sauce was weird. I believe I got the Ziggy Marley and paid extra for fries that were supposed to be spicy. I might have just ordered the wrong thing and it was also takeout. Ordering online was quick and easy and the wait while we drove there wasnt bad.
My wife and daughter are vegan. I always thought vegan food was gross until coming here. We absolutely love it here. 10/10 delicious vegan plates. I definitely recommend coming here and getting the avalanche. 👍🏼
I have only been to Utah twice, and both times Ive eaten at the Vertical Diner. This place has a great atmosphere and really friendly service. All the food is good, but the breakfast menu is really the highlight for me. If you are a vegan visiting Salt Lake City, this place HAS to be on your list.Great merch, too!
This place is amazing!! I did not expect Utah to have such vegan food. This place has tasty food, excellent staff, and all-day breakfast! A visit here is never bad. Do yourself a favor and try The Avalanche. Its the best vegan breakfast Ive had in a long time
The perfect vegan Diner! Whether youre in the mood for breakfast or dinner, you will find the perfect meal here! Everything is delicious, and the employees are the friendliest you will meet! This is a frequent dining place for me, and I recommend it for everyone to try!
Absolutely amazing! We had the biscuits and gravy, the blueberry pancakes, and the french toast, and it was all wonderful.Personally Ive noticed that with a lot of vegan places, theyll get rave reviews from vegans, but anyone who eats normal food or doesnt have dietary restrictions will think it tastes like dirt. Let me tell you thats not the case here! Im not vegan, but Ive recently become lactose intolerant, so Ive had a lot of experience with stuff that doesnt have dairy or meat but is supposed to taste like it does. Vertical diner is hands-down the best vegan breakfast place Ive been to, and is so good that Id want to come here even over the more well-known breakfast/brunch spots in the area. The biscuits and gravy had an excellent texture and just the right amount of spices to be the perfect classic comfort food. The blueberry pancakes and french toast were both moist and fluffy, which is hard to accomplish but absolutely amazing! The only bad thing was that we ate it all so quickly that I didnt have time to snap a picture for the review! 😂Definitely would recommend you check this place out, its our new favorite spot.(Note: I saw complaints about service in a few other reviews, we didnt have any problems with that at all. Weve only been in the morning, but the staff were all super friendly and service was quick!)
Love this place! The homemade hot sauce is always awesome
Ok. Not my favorite vegan place but only because I just can’t seem to find a consistently made go-to dish or strike a balance with the staff. It’s like you can go in and have a great time with the staff and then the food leaves you feeling not fully satisfied or the food is prepared well and the staff is just absent or aloof. I love supporting local but I wish SLC offered more vegan options when dining out. I do appreciate the overall vibe that I know the owners must be going for so I’ll probably return at some point but not a prime hot spot for me.
I used to come here back in the day and it was always good food good customer service. But things have changed I had hair on my food twice no one said sorry for the hair of my food. The first time there was hair she just removed the hair and expected me to eat the food. And then when I ordered bread the waitress found hair on my bread and had to get me a new bread of course. So my experience was very hairy to say the least and I will not be going back there again after this experience of poor customer service hair on my food. Its not the same anymore.
First time here. Will definitely go back to try other menu items. Variety of vegan options. Friendly staff. Cool place.
Love this place! I have to admit a couple of items were lackluster and the options for a person with a soy allergy are pretty slim, but the things the do right are spectacular.
Drove 30 minutes to try out Vertical dinner, since my wife and I are vegetarians, we wanted something new. Walked in and we were seated, and then we waited while 4 servers walked past us numerous times not one even acting like we existed. Waited 10 minutes and not one person brought water, or said your server will be with you soon. After a few more minutes and we walked out right past pretty much all the staff standing at the register and again not a sigle word. Being Sunday and no more than 4 other people in the restaurant, no excuse! Ridiculous!!! Never going back or suggesting to friends. I am assuming the management doesnt read reviews because service is a constant one star! Anyway went to a nice restaurant down the street and got great service and great food. So I guess it was worth the trip.
Really great place! Its all vegan and its all delicious. My friends and I got very different things and enjoyed it all. My breakfast sandwich on french bread was delicious and the french fries are crispy. My friend got the breakfast burrito and she said the sauce and salsa on top were yummy and the entire burrito was delicious! My other friend got the Joaquin Pheonix burger and enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend!
We make it a point to stop at Vertical Diner EVERY time were in SLC (or even Utah in general!). You guys are killing it! Whether we eat sweet or savory, it never disappoints. The atmosphere is the perfect laid-back diner vibe mixed with the friendly attitude I was hoping for. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions for non-vegans.
Not at all impressed! The only thing good about this place was the customer service! Food was dry, bland and we paid way too much for the portion we got. My seven year old nephew is a foodie and he refused to finish his plate of banana pancakes and bowl of mac n cheese. Its not for us so we definitely wont be going back.
Loved it because I like the exceptional and the urban style. I felt welcome from the moment I entered. Cool place
Fresh! Thats what comes to mind when I ate here. I tried their biscuits and gravy. It was very good! Also, the fruit was fresh and the broccoli and cheese hit the spot. My boyfriend got the Vertical Burrito! So jealous! Its so rich in flavor. And just with a little hot sauce it enhances the experience in taste.
If you are plant based or thinking about it, do not pass up experiencing the quality of food from this Diner. The flapjacks, scramble tofu and other delights were just that -- delightfully prepared with Love. This joint is in business for the long-haul and rightly so. VisUP!
As always the staff and the food were sublime! Everybody is always willing to help with any of your needs and the food is absolutely exceptional!!
A great selection of vegan food, thats good enough to appeal to non-vegans as well. Staff was friendly, and service was quick. Theres an outdoor eating area where we were able to bring our dog, as well.
First time having vegan food. So I did something hard to mess up. Pasta and garlic bread. The sauce was thick and not really saucy at all. The garlic bread had no taste of garlic and it wasnt even toasted. Not even crispy on top. Are vegans afraid of toasters? Im new to this..My boyfriend enjoys vegan food and found the Magic Wok with coconut curry to be disappointing. We asked for extra spicy.. it had NO spice. The curry tasted good. The noodles were unpleasant and the only thing done really well, was the broccoli. The food was packaged in a wax coated cardboard box that almost tore open by the time I got it home.
One of the best restaurants in the city. Vegan dining that people actually want to eat and enjoy, not some sort of meaningless experience or virtue signaling. Ive eaten here, Ive ordered out, and Ive had delivered. Well worth going out of your way for. The staff are lovely, if overworked, but they will serve you with a smile.I recommend the Juaquin Phoenix burger, but their pancakes are out of this world. You will believe that vegan food can be good.
I am hoping this was just an off night, but this was the worst service I have had in a LONG time. It took nearly 2 hours for a table of two with nothing special. 30 to take our order, 45 for our food, and another 30 for our check. The food was decent but no where near the rave reviews it has. I will try it again if I have 2 hours to kill
The food was fantastic, however our waiter Car was unprofessional and rude. Not only was he not talkative, unwelcoming, and cold toward us, he treated us horribly. After we had paid, he returned to our table, dropped the bill, and said “You know, waiters live on tips, right?” extremely rudely and then walked away without another word. On top of that, on our way out, he told us to get out after we had done nothing to warrant behavior like that, and then he flipped us off. We realize that servers live off of tips, however we did not have enough to tip as generously tonight as we have in the past. Generally the service is impeccable, however Car was an extremely rude waiter who’s treatment of us should be unacceptable. If I ever see him working again, I will not be eating there. I love vertical diner and it is sad to see someone like that who treats customers the way he did working there.
I tried this place for the first time and left feeling just sort of empty. Nothing here stood out at all. The service was okay, the food was okay, and the atmosphere overall was just.. okay. I really wish the place had more spirit. I got the California burger and was pleasantly surprised by the guacamole and bun. The vegan patty itself was pretty dull flavored. I will try this place again though because I have heard fantastic things from friends.
I was in Salt Lake for business and had to try the famous Vertical Diner. This vegan diner makes the best ‘chick’un wings’ I’ve had the pleasure of eating! I got the tender tigers and they were incredible. The ranch that came with them was also on point! For my entrée I got the Vertical Ruben with the Mac ‘n cheese as the side. The Mac was perhaps the best Mac I’ve had in my 7 veggie years. There were some type of delicious mushrooms in the Mac which reminded me truffle mushrooms...decadent! I chose to get the Ruben with mushrooms as the protein and unfortunately was disappointed. It wasn’t bad, just not at the same level of delicious as the other two items I ordered. Overall I was very happy and hope I get to come back to one of their two locations in future!
Good customer service. Delicious food. Best vegan pancakes Ive ever had. I ordered avalanche, it was too much food. I would have been okay just ordering the pancakes, they were a double stack but thick and a good size. Fluffy middle with crispy edges, so good! My friend ordered buffalo chicken tempeh sandwich with fries. He liked it! Just a heads up, vertical diners hash browns are diced potatoes, not the shredded potatoes that one might expect. House made ketchup was yummy! Will return.
Excellent vegan food, breakfast was delicious: the avalanche did not disappoint. Happy, courteous, and quick servers. Will be back!!!
It was amazing to be able to order from an entire menu of vegan options! Try the biscuits and gravy and pancakes. So nice to find a place that can accommodate our vegan and gluten free diets!
Great place, food was amazing. Tofu scramble, breakfast sausage, tempeh bacon, pancakes everything was so tasty. Stuff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back when in SLC.
Let me start by bragging my brains out on how good Vertical Diner is. There are dishes I hadn’t even tried before but everything I end up trying or sharing with someone is SO good, it can’t be topped.Vertical Diner for a while has a fancier restaurant named Sage Diner and then they made Vertical Pizza at their original location back in the day.I’m glad that the other options that weren’t even as good as Vertical Diner didn’t last so to simplify your options you just have here to go to, makes things nice and easy!I love the nachos, the burgers, I do gluten free buns or lettuce wrapped, the “gravy” they use that isn’t even real gravy tastes amazing and I never even liked gravy before.Definitely my top favorite vegan or even non vegan restaurants in Salt Lake City. I haven’t ever brought someone here who didn’t like any and everything they tried.
This place is amazing!! We were in town for only a day but I wish it could have been longer just to try more dishes. We had amazing service and really great food. Stuffed to my limit. Even if your not vegan I’d recommend this place to everyone.
I have been a huge fan of vertical diner since they opened and were located at the original location on W. Temple and I can say they are still gettin down with it today! The food is delicious and hey, you leave with zero guilt. The seating device was slightly behind the curve as we waited 30mins for a seat while people noticed open booths available, but once seated the server was amazing the food service was quick and the flavors we as always, spot on!Whatever your style, or flavor pallet or hell, if you’re just curious as to what a something tastes like.Hit up Vertical, I promise you that dissatisfaction and disappointment are not on the menu.Hands down one of my favorite places in the valley for food.TRY the Mountain (get the cheese sauce!)TRY the Buffalo TigersHell, TRY IT ALL!
Wow! What an amazing breakfast, spot on flavor and we found out they have a spot in Portland Oregon💚 Highly recommended for that road trip fill ☝
Delicious Breakfast Sandwhich, great service, and a very cute restaurant!!The wait for my food wasnt very long at all.
Excellent vegan food! A must for vegans living in or visiting Salt Lake City. However, I was disappointed by my last visit. My boyfriend ordered the lemonade, and it tasted like old lemons mixed with Minute Maid powder. I ordered tea, and it tasted musty as well. My boyfriend asked our server to take the lemonade off the table, and he responded very passive aggressively. We received bad service for the rest of our visit and were charged for the urine-like lemon beverage. Disappointing for one of my favorite places. I don’t think I’ll be returning.
Such. Good. Food!!!The staff are super nice and know a lot about their menu. Great variety of vegan and vegetarian options. I had the Philly cheese with mushrooms, it was amazing. Ted was our server and he was so patient while our party picked his brain to help us decide what to have for lunch. We are definitely going back :)
Best vegan/ gluten free cheese sauce and fries Ive ever had!!! They also have gluten free pancakes in banana, chocolate chip, and blueberry.
As a vegetarian, Im used to fairly limited choices at most restaurants so it was an awesome surprise to have a whole menu of options. Waitstaff very nice and welcoming. I loved the German Sausage Sub. Especially, the sauerkraut. If youre vegan/vegetarian (even if you arent) this place is worth a try!
The food here is incredible. I had the buffalo tenders and the vertical reuben. First of all the ranch for the tenders was so good that I bought an extra container to take home - fingerlickin good! And the reuben had so many wonderful flavors (FYI you can ask for half and half mushrooms and tempeh!) I got the mac and cheese side and I seriously could not believe it was Vegan it was that good. To top it off, the owner was there and I heard his passion for his cause and this food so clearly. They also have super cool swag and clothes for purchase by the door. Will definitely be back!
Got some pupusas and a tamal de elote, very good stuff
