Ive been going to Portland Kayak Company for over a year and I will keep coming back. Annie and Mike are wonderful and have been extremely helpful and patient with all of my questions! I bought my first kayak and all my gear from them and Im looking at buying another one. Ive also rented from them. Their rental gear is high quality and their prices are great. If you want to get into kayaking or need some new gear, Portland Kayak Company is the place to go!

Great place, great people! Definitely the best bargain Ive seen for kayaking in Portland, and they even include an extra 30 min buffer period, just in case. I chose to launch behind the shop in Willamette Park; this was pretty simple. Hauling out was a bit busy but still easy to manage. Definitely will be back!

Our family had a fabulous kayaking experience as we enjoyed the beautiful Willamette River. The staff were most professional and accomodating. Most importantly, they were exceptionally helpful in guiding us towards a safe return when we were challenged due to strong winds. We cant wait to return next season!

We went paddleboarding on the Willamette and had a blast. Our check-in was easy (we purchased online), and the set-up guide was kind and easygoing. I brought my two daughters, 12 and 14, one of whom hadnt been out before, and they gave us super helpful and quick tutorial. We went a little over on time because of bad planning (mom!) on the water, and they were so forgiving about it! The only part thats a little unwieldy is getting the wheels on the boards and taking them down to and up from the river. Overall, a wonderful experience. And when we called to check on rentals, we were told (very wisely and thoughtfully) to pick a weekday for my first-time daughter, so as not to battle too many waves on the water from weekend boat traffic. Kindest folks! Wonderful service. And a great time on the water. Highly recommend.

Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. They couldn’t have made the check in process any easier. They had several boats to choose from, had you get in the boat before to set up foot pedals, and gave you a pump in case water got in the boat. They really think of everything. Definitely recommend this place!

Easy to book, super nice and helpful staff, reasonable prices, located not far from the docks. A pretty effortless experience overall. Even saw two bald eagles out on the river! Definitely my go-to-place now.

We have been going to Portland Kayak for many years. It began with a few kayak rentals here & there. We bought 2 kayaks from them in the past 2 months & have been storing them at PK for the short term. They are always friendly and Informative, and are willing to answer any question big or small. I love working with Annie, Mike and their awesome crew. Have already recommended PK to many friends & colleagues and will continue to do so. Plan ahead. You’ll need advanced plans in the summer!

I wanted to show off Portland to my nephew and his gal from Florida and thought to see it from the Willamette River. Portland Kayak was just the ticket. We booked three single kayaks for a couple of hours and had a blast. The only suggestion is to have laminated maps to hand out. But everything was well thought out.

Friday on the river with instructor Joanne. I would highly recommend Joanne instructions. We had a fun paddle and visit on the Willamette, We saw eagles also - a bonus.

This place is a short walk to the Willamette and they give you wheels to help bring the kayak to the water. They were really nice and knowledgable about that days water conditions. This portion of the river doesnt require you to shuttle back up the river, acts more like a lake in that regards. Definitely recommend!

Pay attention to the instructions! They rattle them off pretty fast with no cheat sheet for reference. Everything was clearly explained though: how to mount the kayak or paddle-board onto the wheels (with demonstration), which path to take and which dock to use, how and where to lock up the wheels, etc. make sure to be on time for your reservation! The time slots fill up fast. My friends and I enjoyed leisurely kayaking and paddle-boarding around. We would try and ride the wake of the speedboats passing by. Bring water. I also brought my phone in a waterproof case because pictures are fun.

Quick, efficient, affordable with a very friendly staff. PKC is a short roll/walk (5-10 min) down to the dock at Willamette Park. Sunny, warm afternoons are a madhouse for parking at WP with boaters and trailers. Recommend parking first, then walking up to PKC to get your kayak, instead of the other way around.

Good kayak rental, great service, and beautiful location. its a little bit of a hassle and takes up rental time getting the kayaks down to the dock and back, but when this caused us to get back a little late we werent charged, so cant complain.

Me and my girlfriend had an awesome time paddleboarding on the memorial holiday weekend. First time for ma but she seems to get the hang of it pretty quickly. We made reservations and stopped by to pickup the paddleboards. They were so helpful in showing us how to handle the equipment and transport it. They gave very clear instructions and seems very knowledgeable of the weather conditions for the day. 5heybwere able to assist me in getting a dry bag as to keep my stuff from getting damages in the water. We had a great experience and will continue to come back. It was so easy to transport the equipment to and from the river. Just a short walk and your there. We are going to continue to practice and we are renting from them again soon. If you want to get out on the river during these hot summer months I definitely recommend choosing Portland Kayak co. They know there stuff and are very helpful in making your experience enjoyable.

Portland kayak is such a great business! I was looking for a kayak in September for my boyfriends birthday. They helped verify the kayak I had researched was of good quality and I was able to reserve one they had shipping in. When I picked my kayak up the staff helped me put it on my small Honda Civic and ensure it was tied down well! Communication was great for the entire shopping experience.

Its been a few years since Ive been here, but my wife and I wanted to get out on the water today and decided we needed to come see the folks at PKC. They were very professional, informative, and worked with us on extending our time witg no issues. We will definitely be back.

It was my first time trying out a kayak. The instructors were exceptional. They effortlessly kept our group together. They were quick to help those who were struggling. They were just as quick to introduce new skills to those who were doing just fine. I am definitely hooked. I can’t wait to go out again.

Their kayaks are amazing, they fit you into it well, clean them in between every use and are very customer service oriented! I lost their lock to the wheels you use to take down to the water and they were so kind about it. Sorry guys!! Thanks for a great experience and I’ll be back soon (and won’t lose the lock!)

A great selection of kayaks to rent and demo, and of course youre going to want to buy one (I DO!) . If not, they have a great selection of other kayak-related stuff, which is different than all the rental kiosks which have nothing other than a couple recreational kayaks. So rent a kayak and see downtown Portland from the water.

No service here. Store close at 6 not 5:45 pm. Dont tell your customer at 5:35 that you are you closing in ten minutes. And I should be careful with the carbon fiber paddle. What a joke.

Great friendly place. Rent all kinds of kayaks and sups. Went out for a 2 hour paddle and went around Ross Island and had a great time. May try a 2 person next time. Have to walk a couple of blocks to the dock but they provide wheels to roll the kayak on. Prices are a little high it seems but you are in PDX so not too bad.

Prices are reasonable. Theres a bit of walk downhill to the river with the boats and back up afterwards. Staff is friendly and quick to get you on your way. Itinerary on the river is interesting and easy.

The sunset guided tour to Ross Island is excellent. It was my first time kayaking today, so I was nervous at first, but the tour guide (Heather) was great about instruction. We saw a bald eagle, swallows, geese, and ducks. We also had great views of the bridges. I highly recommend going on this tour.

My four friends and I rented individual kayaks for two hours last weekend and we were impressed with the friendly and helpful staff at Portland Kayak Company. They were very thorough and patient with us when they were giving us instructions plus one staff member walked down to the dock with us to help us to get in the kayaks. Also, he returned after two hours to greet us and helped get our kayaks back on the dock. All in all, we had a wonderful kayak trip around Ross Island. I would highly recommend this company for locals and visitors. Lots of kudos to the staff at this store. Thank you!

Make sure you get a reservation for anything special because they may have a large party booked. Originally we wanted a tandem kayak, but they were out so we went with two singles. You roll the kayak down to the river and lock the wheels to the dock. Make sure to tie the wheels in front of the seat so that they dont slip. Other than that, I had a great time on the water. We got great directions from the guide, a place to store our bags, and a beautiful day. We went all around the island, got some cool views of bridges, and got to see some animal life as well. Seeing Portland from the river is very cool and something that everyone should try out. There was really good customer service here too. Nice and polite!

It is amazing how much a Kayak/SUP rental costs per hour. Portland Kayak Co. does provide competitive rates with all of the other rental places around, but what draws me back here is the location on the Willamette. It is so much fun to launch in Johns Landing and then make your way over to Ross Island and to cruise around there for a while.If you want to try a particular sport, you will want to call ahead of time to make sure they have something available. They will rent out of their stock, especially in the summer. Also, for the SUP boards, they have a variety of stock, so if you want to try a particular board, call ahead and see if they have it. If they do, then reserve it.

From being greeted as soon as I walked in the door to the help loading my new ride on the car the entire experience was exemplary. They offer a lot of great brands, some of which Id never even heard of before (check out their selection of Lendal paddles, those things are amazing!) Whether youre looking to rent or buy, if sea kayaking of canoeing is your thing, this is the best place in Portland for you.

Kudos to Portland Kayak Company! My husband and I went in to get some info on different kayak choices, pricing etc. The patient help we received was phenomenal.We got so much helpful info and we rented two yaks that we thought were close to what we might like to perhaps buy.Two hours later, we got back and were able to make a better decision and to dialogue more, sit in a couple more different types/size kayaks.We left with two fantastic kayaks suited perfectly for each of us. The installation of the yak rack on the car, instructions on putting them up on the car and removal. Jackets, oars, and we are good to go!!!He was very informative and super nice human as he helped us to the very end. They also have tours, classes, and a night/sunset kayaking trip I want to go back for. Their rentals are many and of great variety so come try your luck and perhaps go home with a new toy or two.

As usual, a great experience both renting today and buying replacement parts for other kayaks a few weeks ago. These folks are knowledgeable and friendly.

The Portland Kayak Company makes it super-easy to have a fun adventure with friends or family even if you dont kayak well! From the kayak company you wheel the kayak down to Willamette Park, put it in the water off of one of the docks and lock up the wheels until you come back. The staff is very knowledgeable about the surrounding waters and theyre able to recommend different places to go especially depending on your experience. Theyve always been very friendly and helpful and seem to really love what they do. Ive never felt shy about asking questions or asking their advice on situations. Ill be coming back many times in the future to rent Kayaks from them!

I went in this morning looking at the kayak selection expecting to walk away either dissapointed at the price or the service. Little did i know that Mike would be selling me an awesome recreational kayak. This is the place to go, great service, great selection and best of all the people there are very knowledgeable and friendly.

I was in Portland for a conference last weekend and we had Monday to explore a bit. We decided to go kayaking and we are glad we did. The trip around Ross Island takes a couple hours but we took our time as we wanted to explore a bit, chill on the beach and hang out with the bald eagle we spotted on the island. :) The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Next time we are in Portland we will certainly be back!

We rented paddleboards through PKC. Everyone there was so genuinely friendly, helpful, and engaged. They really seemed happy to be there. It was extremely easy too - we completed the rental process and got on the water within 20 minutes. All equipment was provided, and there were no hidden fees. The location is great too - you can go explore around the island and lagoon, swing by the amusement park, or browse the city shoreline all within a couple of hours. I will definitely be going back and bringing friends!My one request would be an online reservation system, that would make this 6/5 stars.

Great store carrying many new and used kayaks for sale and rent. The store sells all the equipment you would want on your craft. Limited free parking out front. Williamette River and boat ramps located short distance from back of the store.
