I cannot rave about Jacquelyn enough! She literally saved my sister’s wedding dress at the very last minute!! Another seamstress had failed miserably on my sister’s dress. It was way too big and she claimed the only way to keep it up was to add straps. She then added straps that were the wrong color. My sister was understandably distraught. We called around and the only person willing to touch it with only a few days before the wedding was Jacquelyn. She gave us an estimate on the phone and told us she would take a look, but could make no guarantees. She squeezed us into her already packed schedule. We got down there 3 days before the wedding! She had my sister try on the dress, took one look at it and said oh no, we can’t have this. I can definitely fix it for you. She pinned it a bit, told us to go grab a coffee and come back in half an hour. When we came back the dress was already a million times better, but she went above and beyond my asking sure my sister felt comfortable and beautiful. While I know this is not how she normally does business and I would advise scheduling in advance with her, I am forever grateful that she saved the day for my sister, in just a few short hours. Thank you so much!! 💕

THANK YOU, Jacquelyn, for a beautiful, artistic, and effortless wedding dress altering experience. I came to Hem and Veil with an off-the-rack sample size dress that was nearly 4 sizes too big, water stained, torn zipper, and thread pulls left and right. With her innate talent (and quite honestly, pure magic), Jacquelyn was able to take a difficult dress and turn it into the most perfectly fitting dress that completely fit my wedding vision. She was communicative, kind, and flexible admist a worldwide pandemic and always greated me with a sense of warmth and calmness, making it feel like Ive known her for years. Though I live about an hour outside of Portland, I will always go running back to her for my future alteration needs.

Jacquelyn is an outstanding seamstress who completely enjoys her craft and is top notch! She greets you with a warm smile and reminds you her goal is that you leave with the dress of your dreams! We headed to Jacquelyn four short days before the wedding with an uneasy bride; the dress was a little too large everywhere. Jacquelyn assured us she could easily alter it in time for the wedding. The bride “popped” on the dress and J started pinning. We arrived the next day and the dress was beautiful and fit very nicely. The next day, the dress felt a little too tight. We called J and she said come on in! We scooted right over, she pinned a few more areas, made the alterations while we waited and voila; the wedding dress of her dreams fit perfectly. She is a master of her trade with the biggest heart! This is the ONLY place to have your bridal gown altered! Run, do not walk to see her; she’s the best!!

Jacquelyn is incredible! She made fittings SUPER fun and did an amazing job on my dress. I was really high maintenance in the end and had her to some last minute changes and she took the time to make sure my dress was a perfect fit. I couldn’t be more thankful! She even squeezed in one of my bridesmaids into her busy schedule! Honestly, if you are looking for someone to do bridal alterations, don’t go anywhere else. 🙌🏻

For many years, I have carried around my Mom’s wedding dress with me tucked into a plastic bin and hidden at the back of my closet. Upon, being proposed too, I dug it out and looked it over. It was in a sad state of affairs; stained and ripped all over and it hardly looked like a wedding dress. On a whim, I took it over to Hem and Veil to see what options could be made. Jacquelyn, the shop owner said she thought she could save the dress and make an attempt at cleaning it up and work some alteration magic. With little hope, I went ahead and planned a dress shopping date with my mom, my brother’s fiancé, my future mother-in-law, and my fiancés sister to explore all of my wedding dress hunting options. On the day of the hunt, the group started off at the local David’s Bridal shop. Here, I tried on a broad assortment of dresses that didnt fit, looked cheaply made, and were 110% not my style. So, off the group went to Hem and Veil. Here Jacquelyn gave us total free range of the store, trying on some absolutely beautiful vintage gowns that had flair, classic lines and personality. Jacquelyn, had also worked some amazing magic and had hung my mom’s dress in the fitting room without anyone’s notion. As the dress trying on started to slow, I put on my mom’s dress, held my breath and stepped out for all to see.The dress fit like a glove, it was restored beautiful and was everything I was looking for... it was beautiful. I remember tell everyone, “this is my dress!! this is my dress!!” unable to contain my excitement. My mom, with a surprised looks on her face question if it was right (she knows me well and I NEVER come to a decision this quickly) while looking very curiously at the dress. I was firm and I asked my mom what do you think and “does this dress look familiar”. It took maybe a minute, despite feel like a lifetime, but my mom finally said “yes, that dress is beautiful on you and it looks so similar to my wedding dress”. I exclaimed, “that’s because it IS your wedding dress!!”. Tears, laughter and surprise erupted from the group and filled the room. My mom hugged me and she was so surprised and shocked. It was the perfect moment, and Jacquelyn help me pull it ALL off! I honestly, cant speak highly enough of Jacquelyn. Not only did she help me make this an extra special surprise happen, but the dress and alternations she did made it absolutely beautiful. Thank you! Thank you, Jacquelyn!

Ordering a dress online is always a risky choice, and when I ordered my wedding dress of Etsy, it was the exact style I wanted, but the fit was WAY off. Like, the entire torso, chest and shoulders were just wrong. Jacquelyn was able to completely transform the dress into exactly what I wanted! She also added a bustle that I got so many compliments on for the way it flowed. Thank you, thank you, thank you for fixing my dress so I didn’t look like a football player at my wedding! Awesome customer service, really fair prices, and you will feel comfortable the whole time!

Jacquelyn was super kind and took time to speak with me on the phone regarding my alteration request. Though I needed something last minute and she was too full-up to take my dress, she gave me a great recommendation of who to go to instead of her, and talked with me about what might have gone wrong with the previous tailors alteration. She was great! Thanks for your help, Jacquelyn!

Hem and Veil is AMAZING!!!! Came in with a dress about 2-3 sizes too big and she worked wonders on it. On top of that, she made me a custom veil and added jewels to my dress in places I wanted. She was always super excited about my dress and seemed genuinely interested in me and my wedding which made the experience ever more wonderful. She let me have as many fittings as I needed until I felt 100% ready to go! I would HIGHLY recommend her for your bridal alteration needs!!!

Jacquelyn is doing my alterations for my wedding dress and, although it isn’t in the completion phase yet, she has been AWESOME at calming my nerves! She is sweet, skilled, and has a rare ‘no-pressure’ approach that is wonderful. I found a dress that I *liked, but would need a decent amount of altering to *love, & she made me feel super confident we’d get it there. Thank you!

Run don’t walk for ANY alterations you need! I just had my final wedding dress fitting with Jacquelyn and could not be more touched and thrilled with the entire experience. From start to finish, she has been funny, generous, transparent & so full of talent. She’s got an amazing eye & an incredible shop full of gorgeous, affordable gowns. This should be your first and only stop for wedding dress shopping - you will thank me! Jacquelyn could charge 10 times what she does and still be worth it. ❤️ I’m already sad I won’t get to see her every few months!

Drove out here and was turned away for a simple zipper repair. Spent a good portion of my morning commuting to her shop to find out in-person she doesn’t do anything but bridal dresses. Probably a nice girl who does great work, but can’t speak on quality or price.

Super disappointing. Ive gotten many dresses hemmed here over the years and have always had a great experience. Ive also recommended many friends who have also now been loyal to Hem & Veil. This year my wedding was to take place at the end of June and my first bridal dress fitting was scheduled in March (the week the state shut down due to COVID-19). I worked with Jacqueline to reschedule my fitting for April. The April date came around and she called me to tell me she was still closed so we rescheduled a third time for May 28th (a month out from my wedding). My appointment came and she never called to confirm or tell me if she was open. I tried calling and never heard back from her. I just assumed she was still closed due to the pandemic. Still, I was upset she never communicated that with me. I was still having a small immediate family ceremony and was unfortunately never able to get my dress altered. Two days later, I ran into a friend of mine who lives on my street and she was on her way to get her dress altered at Hem & Veil. I was really shocked considering I heard nothing from Jackie and my friends wedding date changed to October (which meant mine was a more immediate priority). The whole situation was super sad and Im bummed I never got to wear my wedding dress for my ceremony. More recently, I called Jacqueline see if she could do a quick hem for a bridesmaid dress for September. She immediately was agitated and said absolutely no way and that she was way too busy. I understood and asked her if she might have any recommendations and she became even more agitated basically just said no I have no idea whose even open and dont know anyone and basically hung up on me. A friend (who I had I recommended to Jackie) texted me this morning to tell me a very similar phone conversation she had with her and how rude she was and similarly just shrugged her off and hung up on her. Im so bummed about how all of this has been handled. I understand this time has all been very challenging for everyone but that doesnt excuse lack of communication and not being kind. As a customer who has spoke so highly of Hem & Veil and has brought numerous friends who became customers, I feel very slighted. Heres to hoping other brides are able to have a good experience and wear the dress they always dreamed of.
