Really like having a convenient option for picking up books at an independent store. Some of the staff is a little...scattered? But I think they mean well. Really looking forward to seeing the expansion into the new space and tasting all their new treats!

The customer service at this shop is second to none. The staff know their stock perfectly, and whatever they dont have they are more than happy to order. Sometime in late 2021 they will start selling coffee, too, and then this will be one of my favorite places in all of Pittsburgh.

This is a wonderful independent bookstore which manages to offer a wide section of books in spite of occupying a more cozy space. I was hunting for a very new release, and the staff happily offered to special order it for me. I am increasingly concerned about promoting and frequenting local, small businesses, and when that small, local business is a lovely bookstore -- all the better.

Im a huge poetry reader and was delighted with the eclectic selection of writers available in-store. On top of the great shopping experience (its so cute inside, youve got to see it), I needed a book they didnt have. A clerk quickly assisted me in ordering the book and they had it ready for pickup within 2 or 3 days – I didnt even need it urgently. The staff are welcoming and attentive, as well as interesting and kind.Although Ill be visiting regularly, Im most thrilled to visit when the store has expanded – a clerk told me that construction is poised to begin before 2022, and the longterm plan is to have a small cafe inside the store as well!Thank you for being a treasure of a bookstore.

White Whale was recommended to me, and now Im recommending it to you. This is a gem of a bookstore. They utilize the small space very well. It is comfortable and clean, and mask wearing is still being enforced. The store was liberally sprinkled with book reviews and recommendations from the staff, who were friendly and inviting while I was there. There is a whole section of LGBTQ+ books, which I love to see at a small bookstore. They had the new bestseller I was looking for, and I picked up two books of poetry from local authors as well. Oh, and dont miss the mural on the Edmond St side of the building!

A local gem! This charming indie bookstore is packed with a thoughtfully curated selection of books. I never fail to pick up some great reads from the selection on their front tables. Also, great selection of books by local authors too! And they host the best book events!

Great neighbourhood store, with a great selection of books, all genres. Went inside just to browse and ended up buying 6 books, including a couple for my young kid. Hats off to the short haired lady at the register who made us feel welcome.

Went here for the first time today and was surprised by the selection of books. Me and my friend went in to briefly browse but ended up looking around for about 45 minutes. I wasnt looking for anything specific but I still ended up finding and buying 3 books. I definitely plan to go back and support this bookstore. The selection of books was great and I had a fun time! The owner was also very nice!

I’m a sucker for bookstores, let alone one so charming! Feel way less guilty spending my money here than getting the same thing at Target. Plus the rewards system is great. Cute bookmarks and PHG items too!

Beautiful revamp of East End Book Exchange. The space now feels more open and well utilized, and the new owners are obviously excited to bring their vision to the store and to the Pittsburgh literary community. Good selection of new and used and local titles.

This is my favorite bookstore in Pittsburgh. I always find something new! The staff has great recommendations, and you can sign up for a free loyalty program where you get money off when you hit certain purchase milestones. A great place to browse for something that catches your eye. But they also carry popular/new titles too. There are used books and a childrens section. Highly recommend for book lovers and casual readers alike.

Im a big fan of White Whale. They have a great selection, personal reviews and suggestions if youre not sure what to buy, friendly but not pushy. The place is very inviting and comfortable. My only complaint is they have a reward system that gives you a discount after you spend a certain amount. This seems great but it acts as a mirror that shows me how much money I spend on books!!!! Why?!?! Whyyyyyyyyyyyy?!?!!!?

Very unique store. I loved the atmosphere and organization. The person at the desk was helpful - I asked if there were any books in other languages, the answer was no. I really like that they have quotes on several of the shelves from books or comments from people who have read some of the books. Its a nice touch that can help you decide on which book might be a good fit for you. Only down side is that the location is small but they make use of the space that they have.

Wonderful and smart selection of books. Recommendations have always been spot-on. Author and readings events are so well run. It’s wonderful to have such an asset to the community run by a family who loves books.

Love the store. Had a tough day at work and went for a walk through Bloomfield on my lunch break. Made my way in to White Whale and started perusing the shelves.The selection is excellent and it was easy to browse and not feel overwhelmed with too many choices. The best part were some hand written note cards that offered some guidance on certain selections, books that would compare, and other notes that just made it feel so personal. I felt like a friend was giving me suggestions on a new book. Very cool store!

This store is excellent. Its small, but bright and tidy and has excellent selections in each category. The displays are well set out, and well-stocked, and the clerks are always extremely helpful. I highly recommend checking out the store if you havent been since they changed owners and spruced the place up a bit. ;)

This is a great little treasure in Bloomfield. The shop offers a wide variety of interest books in a cozy environment. I was impressed by there selection of photography books. Will definitely be returning.

My girlfriend and I walked in to check out some books and the two dudes working there didnt even like say hello or welcome us into their book store they just kept talking really loud to each other behind the desk I guess thats cool but thats not how you get customers...

I love this bookstore so much, its my favorite in Pittsburgh. The staff is friendly, and always have good recommendations, the store is pleasant, and theyre very good about special orders. At this point, several of the employees know me, and its always my first stop when I want to buy a book.

I just went into browse but I loved their selection of both new and used books. They also have book/poetry readings for local authors. Definitely a neighborhood gem.

Top shelf bookstore. Most recently saw Robin Becker there the poet along with one of her former students now a teacher named Rachel. Quite a selection in the owner is the genuinely nice proprietor.

I tried to donate books-my mistake. I unloaded my trunk with two boxes and two bags of nice books . Set them by open front door. Then carried each one back to desk where employee ? owner ? was standing watching me- no other customers in store at the time. I was told when I got them back to the desk I could not donate and she would look through books to see if they wanted any.and then pay me. I felt as though I had offended her ...She picked out 20 or so and paid me. She could have approached me at the door as I was lugging them all in or when I called the store to make sure they were open and said I wanted to bring some books to donate and was only told they were open until 5. There is a list of what they will take on their website-which I did not see until afterwards.It is a beautiful little shop and I am glad it exists, but it was a negative experience overall .
