Incredibly disappointed and frustrated with my experience with Porter.I placed an order for a mantle I was told would be 13 weeks out just before closing on a Saturday, and attempted to cancel the order the following Monday after finding a more reasonably priced option that would deliver in 4 weeks.I was then told deposits, which was 50% of the total, were non-refundable, which was not communicated during the buying process. Porter then pointed to the invoice, drawing, and receipt, which has the disclaimer in approximately 5 point font buried in a 240 word paragraph, and was signed by me in an approximately 60 second time span on Saturday when the salesperson asked me to sign here, here, and here. After disputing the charge, but still being required to pay based on the signed invoice, I requested that Porter donate the deposit to charity, since the only other option was a store credit. At this point, I have not received any proof a charitable donation has been made, nor have I received a credit, and it has been 5 weeks since my donation request.-----In response to Porter Barn Wood Owner, 9/4/21, 8:30 pm:I am not disagreeing with any point you have made, especially since you have almost reiterated verbatim what I originally posted. If I had been told verbally there was a non-refundable deposit policy, you would not have heard anything from me. The fact is, you currently have over $500 from me that was provided as a deposit, and I have received nothing from it. Simply provide me a receipt that you made a charitable donation. I do not see how that is an unreasonable request.I am sure you understand that I do not want you to benefit monetarily based on my experience with your company. I think we can both feel good about helping out a worthy cause.Matthew

If you are looking for reclaimed wood, this is the best place youll ever find in Arizona! They have an enormous, I mean enormous, selection of every kind of reclaimed wood you can think of! They also have reclaimed wooden doors and windows as well as reclaimed galvanized steel. They can manufacture pretty much anything you can think of out of the reclaimed wood if you want them to (Im having them manufacture a fireplace mantel out of a reclaimed barn beam). Much of their wood comes from the Midwest. The owner is very personable and knowledgeable as are the rest of the staff there.

Omg this place is awesome and the customer service is on point! David helped me pick out some cool speckled barnwood planks and then even cut them to the size I needed! I am building a small privacy wall so I only needed about 5 boards total - David saved me a ton of time cutting these myself and also gave me a brief history on the company! Cool place will def be back next time I need wood!

As a fellow woodworker from Australia with the same surname I had to visit the Porter Barn Wood shop while I was recently in AZ. Thomas was kind enough to free up some time in his busy schedule to give a tour. I was very impressed with his innovation in running a woodworking business and it’s easy to see why he would be the obvious choice for folk in Arizona wanting anything done in their home. Anyone who loves what they do, in my opinion is going to produce magic, and this certainly applies to Thomas here at PBW.

I’ve watched this place grow from a small yard with just a few products to a diverse, creative business. Even when I’m not going to buy stuff, I love looking at the old products they have and trying to imagine where they came from, or browsing the showroom with finished items waiting for pickup and the old log cabin. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the variety of products and endless ideas make this a perfect place to get inspiration and supplies to build your next dream project! Thanks PBW!

Thomas is a master with wood! I came looking for a one of a kind instrument and he did not disappoint. He created a tele-styled body made from 250+ year old ash that was formerly a barn building. He added custom pick ups and a bigsby. The final product, which he dubbed a “Gizwatchi” is truly amazing. It plays like butter, sounds better than every other guitar I own and kills the tone on high end Fender Telecasters. I LOVE this guitar. Thank you Thomas!!!!

I went to Porter with great expectations. I parted company discussed. Needing some metal work done in a major remodel . I Supplied them with a conceptual design drawing along with a 50% deposit. Then I waited and waited and waited for the return of final drawings. Never got the drawings. What got was we had a big project we were working on. When they finally showed up to install the job it was a disaster to say the least. I have never in my 20 years of remolding homes worked with such a poor supplier. There will always problems with remodels and construction. Its how you handle the problems that counts. Porter Barn Wood failed on all points. Poorly ran company and that starts at the top.

I had a great experience with Porter Barn Wood. My husband and I went for the first time to find wood for our dining room table. Bjorn and Marta were so helpful walking us through the site, picking out which wood would be best, etc. Unfortunately, when our boards were ready for pick up, several of the pieces had split or were cut down too much so that we couldnt use them for our project. Marta and Bjorn again helped us out a ton and went above and beyond to resolve the issue for us. Great experience overall!

These guys are great! They have lots of ideas and if you have your own idea they can help bring it to life. One of the best things is that they will do the whole project for you all the way to the finish and install, or they will just cut up the wood for you and let you finish it by yourself, or you can just take the wood and do as you please....or anything in between. Everyone is so helpful and it is great to see a small family run business do so well. It can get busy at times (sat mornings) but it is well worth the wait!! I have done a live edge table, a barn door, made a huge light over my kitchen island, and an amazing mantle...my wife loves them all.

I want to start by saying this store is AMAZING! Most of the reviews are saying customer service is great, maybe if you are there to purchase custom furniture or cabinets they pay a little more attention to those projects, my experience was less than stellar. I purchased a 2 X 11 X 6 piece of oak that had to be cut from a 15 ? board on the lot. The salesperson was reluctant to carry this board to the saw even with my assistance, he wanted to cut it with a chainsaw, expecting I had the saw to do this. No job too small kept running through my mind. They have a great selection of salvaged lumber and like I said the store itself is amazing but with the haste I was shown, I will take my business elsewhere from here on out. I was quoted a price on a 32 door of roughly 4K that a smaller shop had quoted me less than 1k. I will stick to the smaller Mom and Pops shops that do not have such an exorbitant overhead to cover.

AWESOME! Id give a 10 star if I could. Thomas was great!! This place has tons of wood and the sky is the limit as to what they can do! Just because its used old wood does not make it cheap. If youre penny pinching and want cheap go to Home Depot, get a board and hammer it! But if you want authentic pieces and amazing end results, this is your place.

So beyond my very poor response to this particular situation, you are sweeping aside some of the other experiences we have had as a customer - not being valued, some large price increases, and not honoring what your employee told us.We have had 4 different items with Porter Barn Wood within the last 2 year. The first was for a media wall with mushroom wood, the second was a steel wall with a blue patina in our dining room, the 3rd was 3 outside laser cut privacy panels, and the 4th our den with desk, cabinet and shelves. It was easy to work with them in the beginning. They valued every customer, large and small. They took great pride in detail, install and delivery. But with each project, their pricing went up, timing estimates were off (late) and they did not value the smaller customer. On our last item they nickeled and dimed us, and delivery charges were over 10% of the cost of our project ($4k), which were just outrageous. To the point we rented our own uhaul to get the product. We have given several referrals but we wont be anymore. Unless your projects are large (commercial in size) dont bother, they dont care. They have grown and the little guy just isnt worth the time. Nor in our opinion worth the money anymore. They are not the only artisans in town by any leap of the imagination. They have grown too big for their bridgets, and they just dont care about the small order anymore.Response to ownerI will gladly leave my post in its entiety and respond to your post. I was angry, and yes i may have reacted badly. And to Marta, the only employee i spoke with, i owe a sincere apology. We have come back more than once because you do have a quality product which we have enjoyed enhancing our home. But each time we have come back, we have felt less valued and harder to work with you. I am not making assumptions, i am expressing our experience as a customer of smaller orders.Fact, after our current order was complete and we determined the items would not fit in our vehicle (which is why we didnt ask for delivery up front) your employee (the person we did our design order with) indicated, when we asked about delivery, the charge would be $100 to $150 in total. You can outline what you like with your charges, but we have had items from other vendors, like copenhagen, spencers appliances and retablo furniture deliver to wickenburg for a flat fee, maximum has been $150. So i understand large companies have economies of scale, but Retablo is in the same situation as you, delvering high quality, large furniture who is responsible for any damage done during travel. Yet they still charged a flat reasonable fee, yes to Wickenburg. In regard to our orders, we did the media wall, dining room patina wall and laser cut panels in one fell swoop. And by the way, moving furniture is an exaggeration. To get at the wall where the patina was to be installed. My husband and i moved our dining room table ourselves. And had asked the men to help us push the dining side buffett about 2 feet. It took all of 1 minute. At that time we did have bids on the other projects, such as the den, but couldnt do them. Also, after the these projects, we came back for bids on other privacy panels and small projects. We have those original bids. When it came time to actually do the den, the pricing had changed (albeit some design changes) which we did find totally acceptable. However, these smaller projects, such as the privacy panel had increased over 25% and in these instances there was nothing we could do to change design lower the cost.So beyond my very poor response to this particular situation, you are sweeping aside some of the other experiences we have had as a customer - not being valued, some large price increases, and not honoring what your employee told us.

Im kinda disappointed. I was really looking forward to doing business with these folks and they do have quite a selection of materials that I really liked, however...I went and picked out a perfect live edge slab and after figuring the board foot and total price was told $6/board foot. When I went back to pay for it, the price was suddenly $10/bd.ft. I mean, $6 was a great price and all, but it felt very misleading to have the price nearly double in the time it took to go from the warehouse to the design center. I guess it may have been an honest mistake, but still, buyer beware.

They lack customer service and organization..... Had to ask for help even tho there was five employees standing around looking at computer screens. When I finally did get help they told me to feel free to search the yard and when I find a piece I like, to bring it inside and they will price it for me. So I asked where to look in the yard and they didnt even know where their own stock was located. Took about 15 mins to locate some pieces, luckly Im not color blind or I would of been in a real predicament. Question.....Why do I need to carry the lumber, by hand, into your office to get a price? Rough cut material isnt too nice on the hands.Porter does have a nice selection and will compliment them with stock on hand.Only reason I gave 3 stars is because I found the right piece to finish my commisioned build, my customer is most important to my business. All Porter did well was kindly take my money. Tiddy it up, folks.
