After giving model number, showing which part and specifics, I was given the wrong part. Brought it back to get the right one and had to wait. When I return the day it was supposed to be there no part. I requested a refund and the head person (owner I dont know) starts to yell Im not getting a refund. After someone said I could get one. He was very rude and kept calling me a liar. I understand store policy but how you speak to people is very important. I wont buy from a store that blatantly gives you wrong product, double the price online just to make you buy at their store. There is so much more to the story so I shortened it.
Its an old fashioned treasure trove, that doesnt mean anything less than spectacular. Sometimes the big box chain giants cannot provide you the exotic parts/hardware you need or the cosy feelings of the bygone mom and pop stores around the corner, but this store can do all of the stuff. Dont be misled by the small but well packed front, the real mystery is the back storage where the employees will occasionally disappear to fetch more uncommon goodies and then mysteriously reappear with the magical hard to find items. They offer a lot of services besides being a repository of tools and merchandise.
Sold me the wrong AC capacitor even though I showed the picture of the original one. I realised it within 2 minutes, came back to get the correct capacitor, they didn’t have it. They wouldn’t take it back; they wouldn’t issue refund. They got mad for no reason; I didn’t even ask for a refund; I only asked for the correct capacitor. It was only $32 (which is sold for $15 on amazon or just about anywhere else), so I just trashed it. It’s sad and pity.
Love this place, I have to add this !( What is wrong with a business owner asking there customers to make sure to bring the part or take pictures not just asking thinking the shop owners know everything, nothing! This is a busy place sometimes you wait other times your first! And they have it just wait, We are collections of clay nothing else and this is the last of the best and it should be preserved at every cost!)got just about everything. You can count on the owners of the store carrying what you need. The owners have a very special request some people find hard to do but I think its the right way to do it. When you need a certain part or item bring that item in so they can replace it properly, this reduces replacement and all that other bull that goes along with it. Dont be in a rush look around they well get you what you need. One custom at a time.
Purchased two outdoor flood lights about a week and a half ago. One worked, one didnt. Concerned that it might be an issue with the socket. Had an electrician come out to be safe. Electrician determined that my socket was fine. Tested one bulb and it was dead. Tried to return it to the store. Didnt have receipt but had receipts from other purchases I made within the last two weeks from the store. Flat out refused return for exchange or store credit. Store policy Foolish, since I was prepared to make separate purchases that day. Lost a customer in the process of making significant home improvements within the next few months. I had planned on using S & H regularly during the coming weeks and months..
I took a old lock to this store to either be replace or fixed. Now the lock, is the original bathroom door lock from the 1920s. So I was surprised and excited when I was told by Jim, that it could be fixed. Fast forward three months later… no lock, and a million excuses why it hasn’t returned from the “manufacturer” yet. Jim called me once to follow up. I called multiple times and went to the store. Today I called(Saturday 8/7/2021 ), I was told it was shipped on Friday! (8/6/2021 didn’t notify me) knowing Ive been waiting for this lock since the beginning of May. I told him I was not paying the remainder of the balance after waiting three months for a lock, that I was told would be fixed in two weeks. He proceeded to blame everything on the pandemic, and pretty much dismissed me. Said he was busy with other customers. He would love to call me back and further discuss this, I politely told him no. I’ll be there Monday, so we can talk Face to Face. Don’t waist your money here or time here. Especially when you’re trying to fix your house. Jim in rude, inconsiderate and very unprofessional.
Jim Sneddon, the lock salesman is a liar and disgrace. We waited from January 2021 until now and he won’t finish job nor return phone calls. Previous call to complete work were met with dismissive stock responses and we were told he would be in touch . Do not believe anything that man says. Would anybody out there live with their front door nailed shut for 7 months because the lock guy won’t tell the truth that he made serious mistakes and won’t resolve problem? You’ll know who he is if you go into the store. He is the Crypt keeper in the lock section is not to be trusted
Quaint hardware store, check here first before going to bigger retailers as they appear to be fully stocked with plumbing products. Lowes did not carry the tub stem i needed and the salesman at Lowes referred me to this hardware store and he was right they had it .
I’m reading a lot of comments about the staff being rude. I have to admit when I first went there I was really taken by how frosty everyone was. But they have a lot of unusual things that you can’t find elsewhere so I’d return often. I just came to the conclusion they’re just no-nonsense people, strictly business. It would be nice if they smiled once in a while but I’ve never actually heard them insult anyone or speak improperly. They probably hear a lot of “I can get this cheaper at Home Depot or Lowe’s” and they’re probably just sick of it and as a result are just very stoic in their approach. I can live with that. And yes, their prices aren’t cheap but they have the largest selection of drawer, door, and postal hardware I’ve ever seen.
Always helpful and dont have to wait in line for a half hour like at Home Depot!!!
This is one of the last ma & pa hardware stores around so I try to get whatever I can here. Every time I enter the store I’m almost automatically greeted by an employee asking me if I need any help. You won’t get that at Home Depot. Sure, their prices might be a wee bit higher than the big chain stores but that’s the only way they’re going to survive.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. Local store with far superior knowledge and availability than the larger box stores......
I have been using this place for years. My parents used it for 30 or more years. The first couple times were helpful. Some of the people are very kind and helpful. Ever since then, at least half of the staff is very rude, hasty, and generally dont want to be bothered to help. A couple years ago we had safety bars installed in bathtub, and now they are rusting. I told the guy to put caulk but he insisted it would be fine, and now they are rusting. This morning I asked for something very simple. I waited 30 minutes for them to open, and was very polite and patient when asking for help. The guy slammed them on the counter. Started raising his voice, and I tried to show him a pic on my phone of what I was looking for but he refused to even look. Yelling louder, calling me young lady. Very disrespectful, beligerent. I was trying to be direct and clear and he refused to listen to what I was looking for. I go there because they have such a good selection. But I dont think I will be anymore. The prices are mostly absurd, and tired of some of the people there.
This is the worst place ever. They are extremely rude. I was told that I would be called to get an update on my lawnmower and the price it would cost. Guy called with an attitude like I was in the wrong then when I asked him what repairs were done on my lawnmower he responded that it didn’t matter as long as it was fixed. When I asked him for his name he hung up on me. I will never ever go back here again.
All I’m going to say is that this place has HORRIBLE customer service. You’re better off going to Billows, Lowe’s or Homedepot. 👍🏻
Extremely unprofessional, product quality is trash. Better off going to Home Depot or Lowe’s.
Don’t even waste your time ! Go somewhere else.
BEWARE - They will take advantage of you and charge you 2X, 3X, 4X, etc. the retail price of items if you do not know what you are looking for and are not familiar with the market.I went to this small shop with the intent of purchasing items from a small and local business. The staff was nice and willing to help everyone and very knowledgeable about plumbing/other items that they sell. HOWEVER, if you do not know the price range for an item do not purchase from them or they will price gouge you. I paid triple/3X the retail price for a plumbing valve kit for my shower. If you search online for the item they typically range from $30.00 - $50.00....I was charged $90.00. This shop DOES NOT ACCEPT RETURNS on plumbing items as all sales are final. Convenient!Additionally, the shop itself is a total mess. Youll never be able to find anything yourself because the shop is a literal mess.DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. FIND ANOTHER SMALL BUSINESS TO SUPPORT.
Quality of their custom products is horrendous. Store is filthy and they make you wait too long for their services.
Was just there and was no help at all. I rather spend my money somewhere else.
Purchased a door handle from the store in Huntingdon Valley before Thanksgiving and was told It would arrive at the Huntingdon Store before it closed. Needless to say the store closed and I was told I would have to go to Philly to pick it up (No offer ever made to ship it to me). I finally received the phone call to come pick up the handle 2-12-21. Drove down to Philly to pick it up. Was told that the specialty orders could not be picked up on Sunday. Was told I should have checked their webiste to know that portion of the store is closed on Sunday. I encourage you all to visit their website to find their hours.....oh yeah they dont have a webiste. The service is so bad it is no wonder they could not keep a location up in Huntingdon Valley....I just feel bad for the people that have them as the only outlet for hardware there in Philly, the locals deserve so much better, and yes Lowes and Home Depot have better customer service. The Home Depot at 4640 Roosevelt Blvd is only 2.2 miles away, if you can it is worth the drive.
Terrible customer service. It is unbelievable. I witnessed a man yelling at one of his customers, i left immediately after. I did want to be his next victim.
Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. Do NOT use this company.
Ive been using S & H for years. Phil always takes care of me whenever I need any advice or ideas on the project im working on at the moment. I would def recommend them to anyone.
They have it all, especially hard to find items. I need a security door replacement handle set. The were expecting some to come in but the gentleman was able to perform a repair on the original. The price was reasonable and he was very knowledgeable.
I am writing this on behalf of my mother. My experience with S and H Hardware on Castor Avenue has been horrific. As a 78-year old senior citizen, the treatment I received from this establishment has been one of the worst experiences of my adult life. I wanted to support a local business during the pandemic, so I tried to order a window for my bathroom from them. It has been a nightmare ever since. The condescending, disrespectful, and untruthful manner in the way the employees have treated me in the last month is shameful. Trying to get in touch with Andy, the owner, is impossible, and he never returns phone calls. The people who are employed by him have given me a run-around and have caused me to feel extremely uncomfortable and anxious over a small window. On August 28, I spoke with Jim and I mailed a deposit check for $275, which I received a receipt for on 9/3. Since then, things have gone downhill. The first man who came out to measure was very vocal about not ever putting in a window with flashing, which is what my window needed. That started a string of phone calls where I expressed concern about the man’s ability to install flashing after he told me he didn’t have that experience. Jim accused me of lying about what the man said. Jim said he would send out Hector to re-measure to make sure the measurements were okay. Jim said the window would be in on Sept. 21. I called during the week of 9/21 because I hadn’t heard from them. Jim accused me of lying again and said he never said the window would be in on 9/21. He was very rude, extremely condescending and nasty. He said that he has to call the manufacturer and that he would call me back. In the meantime, I continued calling the store asking for the owner, Andy, but never had any luck with him being around or returning my calls. The next day, on 9/24, Jim said the manufacturer didn’t start on the window yet. He very rudely said he doesn’t want me calling to find out when the window is in. He will call me. I didn’t hear from him for a long time. On 10/6, I called. Jim said he had to send a 3rd person out to measure the jamb since the other two men didn’t measure that. So obviously after all this time, the window still hadn’t been ordered. When I asked Jim why it took so long to realize the jamb wasn’t measured, he said I was too high maintenance and that he was cancelling the order, and that I wasn’t getting my $275 deposit back. He then hung up on me. An employee named Steven called to try to resolve the situation by setting up a 3 – way conversation between Jim, Steven, and me. That conversation never happened because Steven didn’t show up at the scheduled time. Steven finally got back to me at the end of the day and I told him to let Jim cancel the order and that I would appreciate my deposit back since Jim was cancelling. On 10/7, Steven said that he would get back to me about the deposit. It is 10/13, and I haven’t heard from anyone at S and H Hardware. As if the pandemic hasn’t been stressful enough, the added stress over this window is outrageous. And on top of that, S and H Hardware keeping a $275 deposit from a senior-citizen is appalling. I will never shop at this business again, and I have been telling everyone I know about the horrible treatment I have received at S and H Hardware.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. Horrible service, staff doesn’t even know what they’re doing. Seams friendly at first, after you pay and get what you didn’t want done, they will treat you very bad. Charged me for something that they did wrong. Unfortunately I paid before. Friendly advice never pay before you get the service done, actually find somewhere else, you’re better off. Even called the cops for help and they said and I quote “This place again? They definitely should have been shut down by now. I don’t know how they have business.”
Great neighborhood hardware store.
My first time at this amazing hardware.Great service and items for sale. I when in to buy 4 shower valves for my old shower. The big name stores and other plumbing supply stores didnt have them neither. They recommend this hardware store have them. 100%+ satisfied. Have a new customer for life.
This is a terrible store with very rude staff. Would rather walk a million miles to Home Depot than return. This place is awful. Looking forward to Home Depot shutting them down.
Everyone was so pleasant and knowledgeable. Prices are not bad either
They where very friendly and my services was execellent.
Jim is extremely rude and never returns calls. If approach he will use verbal aggression at high volumes. Very unprofessional work environment.
Avoid at all cost, Jim is rude and unprofessional.
Bought Central shower valve replacement kit, charge me $118.00 for the whole kit, excessive over pricing, other hardware price range from $50.00 to $65.00, Amazon have it for $42.00, its hard to patronize local business if pricing is out of this WORLD....
After we had our Toro Snowblower repaired two years ago. We spent over three hundred dollars and four months waiting for them to repair it. They are advertising as a Toro Repair Representative! Well today was the first time that we had a chance to use it. It did start right up just like when we picked it up. But as my husband was using it, parts started falling off onto the ground, as if they forgot to tighten the screws. If it wasn’t so very sad it would be funny. Bottom line don’t do any business with these people! Lesson learned if we would have known how much they would have ripped us off, we would have just bought a new one! Buyers beware of these people!
Went there because of an ad they had posted on Facebook half off and 75% off anything under the tent. There was no tent and prices were high so half off was just normal prices. In my opinion this was a wasted trip. Didnt buy anything on our list.
Im a Plumber by trade. Great place. Always have the hard to find items when needed.
Add my one star to the cosmos of other dissatisfied single-star customers. Purchased four handsome chrome house numbers, over a hundred dollars, in the assumption Jim, cash in-hand, was going to open a drawer, give them to me.Not so.Numbers werent in stock, had to be ordered elsewhere.Gallaghers is installing a replacement front door. No better time to affix those numbers than with door on saw-horses.Jim prattled on about his favorite Persian restaurant in Layfayette Hills; how he was Scottish plus a host of other warm distractions; all while supposedly understanding customer wanted those numbers before custom-made door was hung.In an act of pure decency Gallagher installer, Bill, offered to stop in to collect those now wildly-overdue house-numbers. He heard me register disgust with my S&H dealings.Still not ready, Bill reminded Jim - professional to professional - this was not a sound business-practice; certainly didnt inspire confidence. My nice new door in-place, I took Bills advice, went to Lowes, bought four $7.00 chrome numbers, drilled the holes myself on a now high, vertical surface.Gallaghers did such quality, no-fuss work Bill was invited back to install a pair of kitchen-deck doors and both cellar doors.During one of these trips he picked-up the now months late numbers from S&H. Judging from the copper pin-welds they looked Made In India; which would not only account for the lengthy delay but a stupendous mark-up.No longer needed, my over $100 purchase graces the garage.Further proof of this stores high-handed behavior toward customers and community: large S&H trucks permanently block city sidewalks while Jim berates those who buy his wares as fat.But our money was good, wasnt it? We didnt try to pass post-dated, three-party out-of-state checks.Somedays, the wags tell us, you eat the bear/the bear eats you.S&H is the bear. Beware his cave.
I wrote this review in March. To this date I do not have a refund on the deposit I left in July 2020. I no longer believe Jim S. ever placed an order for the storm doors I - and a friend - wanted. He saw 2 elderly women. who he could take advantage of and expected that after one excuse after another for not having our doors we would just go away. At this point I anticipate taking Jim, and S&H to court. I wonder how many customers have fallen prey to this man DO NOT BUY FROM S&H!!@ For 20 years I have recommended S&H to everyone. The staff has gone out of its way for me and their inventory for homes in my area is fantastic. But now Im really unhappy. In July a friend and I both Ieft large deposits on storm doors. Since then I keep being told I have to understand that Covid is holding things up. First it was the door. Now its the tempered glass. I fully understand Covid is causing problems However afer the order was placed I should have been told that it could not be filled within the originally promised 4- 6 weeks and given the option of cancelling. Instead I (we) have continued to be given expected time frames which then arent met. The latest, today, is We MAY have a delivery date by next week. When I suggested I would cancel the order if that date again turned out wrong I was told there was no guarantee I would get my deposit back. Ideally I dont want the deposit. I want the door. Cold weather is here. Jim is extremely patronizing and this is not the type of service, or additude, we expect from S&H.
Local Toro dealer that ordered an air filter for my equipment was charged not only for item but for shipping of item upon arrival. This is poor customer service, I could have just easily ordered on line and paid shipping myself. Prices on line are more competitive too, go to Torodealer.com. Had I known I was going to be charged for shipping I would have never ordered through this store.
Had exactly what I needed
Well organized. Knowledgeable staff. No long lines. Good experience!
I have lived in the area for over 15 years and this place is a great store. Helpful, always have what you need. Especially the hard to find items the large chains don’t have. Even specialty items. Always friendly and helpful service. I will continue to use as my go to store.
Got my car keys program and they did a great job at a great price nowhere near the price of the dealership they where nice and fast good place thank you
Wow - a few people with high sodium intake decided to leave 1 star reviews. Ive lived in this neighborhood for 25 years and seen how things have changed for better and worse. The service at this store just keeps getting better. They also have parts you need for your home because they stock what these houses used when they were built. Its so refreshing to see young faces in this store walking up to you to ask you if you need help - and the shocker is when you tell them what you need and they know exactly what youre talking about.
This is a great old fashioned type store. They have everything you need as well as beautiful unique hardware if you’re redecorating your home. I’ve been coming here for 30 years and always get great service. It’s a one of a kind store.
It doesnt look like much from the outside but I have yet to go there and not find what Im looking for.
I took my thermal pain window to them on 04/24/2020, and they distinctly told me that my window would be ready in 5-7 days. I called back to check the progress on the window they tell me it’s not ready. For weeks I called back, even went to the store multiple times asking if my window was ready yet. By this time it was a month later so I called them once again concerned about my order wondering was it ever being worked on I happened to be on hold for 2-3 mins before being hung up on. It took me for to go back to the store multiple times in order to receive any information about the window. I would not recommend any person to take their windows, doors, etc to this establishment because they are liars and has bad customer service.
The worst customer service ever. Please never go there for any reason.
Whenever I need the hard to find items that the big stores like Home Depot and Lowes dont stock this is a place you go they have anything and everything you could possibly find I always tell people to go here Ive never had an issue
Horrible experience.I was sold a airconditioner that was the wrong voltage and 24 hours later. They would not return my money for the unopened airconditioner..poor business...
Absolutely the worst place in life to deal with.Employees, management, owners, who ever have no sense of urgency, responsibility and a complete lack of customer service. Please if you don’t want to get into a shouting match with the management and be threatened in front of other customers. Take your business elsewhere.Just a reiteration.People please take your business elsewhere. These thieves don’t deserve nor do they even appreciate business from anyone. The absolute worst buying experience I’ve ever had, point blank and period.Do not even waste your time and read the response, just read all the other awful reviews on this place. They are all similar, it’s scary actually. It’s a true shame and mystery why this place is even still in business. My guess is just due to the continuous robbery of honest customers. shame on s&h hardware & supply co. But that truly is an understatement. Trust my review and trust the rest the negative reviews, they’re extremely accurate.
They’re definitely overpriced. And it’s funny, I’m reading year-old reviews about them not offering refunds. I recently tried to make a return and was told they couldn’t because of COVID, when in reality, they don’t do returns anyway lol. What a joke.
I went to get pieces that I needed to complete my cabinet. The gentleman who helped me was excellent. I paid $12.00 for 4 cam locks and 4 screws. I went to Hardware store on Huntington Pike and paid 2.76 for 4 screws. WTH . I will go to suburbs to spend my money. Overpriced!!!!!
Very quaint mom and pop shop...has a lot of stuff and stuff that is hard to find...These guys, cause there are no women in here at all...are very well trained and knowledgeable on many different things...they can help you find stuff and also suggest other alternatives. The only problem with this store is the wait to be seen, and they see men before women most of the time..but they have a variety of hardware and more.
STAY AWAY! THIEVES, LIARS, SCAM ARTISTS. I placed a special order for $2,000 worth of cabinet hardware. I was told the items were in stock and would be shipped to me within three business days (coming direct from the manufacturer in Italy). After 7 weeks and non-stop run round from Jim I have nothing! I was told that the item was held up in customs at Canada. I was told that the owner of S&H was involved and the company was doing everything they can to get it out of customs. I was even told that I would have two day shipping on several occasions. They cant keep track of their lies... One time I called I was told that the order was held up in customs in Detroit LOL! (I thought it was Canada Jimmy) All of this was allegedly due to the government shutdown - which didnt affect customs might I add!I finally got through to the US distributor (who confirmed that nothing is shipped out of Italy it all comes from New Jersey) and they are well aware of the store and their problems. They confirmed that no order was ever placed by S&H. Now Im left to dispute this with my credit card company .This store should be put out of business. When my husband called to tell them to cancel the order he was called racist slurs and threatened by the counter boy. This was after JIM mumbled some curse words at him, told him nothing was being cancelled, and hung up on him.Stay away from this group of con artists its not the original S&H that you knew 20 years ago.(I ended up reordering through Home Depot online and the US distributor let me know that it was being shipped out the same day as everything is in stock. What a joke these clowns are)
Love this storeIf it exists, they have it😄
Great place. My go to hardware store!
All i can say is i have been shopping here since i was a teenager and i am 64 years old. These guys have helped me build my $600,000.00 home and just delivered the best barbecue grill i have ever owned, a Weber summit and their price was the best, and they assembled and delivered my grill for free.My hats off to you guys. i am sorry Harold is no longer around, i miss him yelling at me.I just lost my wife and she was your biggest fan.Chrisi love you guys, keep all the hard work up.
Bad attitude to services. Sell the staffs is somebody returned and broken !
This place has been here for many many years, they have so much stuff in stock and so many varieties to choose from, it is amazing to see. things you couldnt find at your big commercial store, they would have it. great service as always and people working behind the counter are very knowledgeable.
I went there because I needed to make a copy of a key. Its key for my garage. I had gotten it copied at home depot but the thickness of the shaft wasnt accurate. I had called them up up and told them about my situation. They said no problem come in and we will take a look at it.They made me a copy where the thickness was so little that the ridges/teeth started to bend as soon as I touched it. I told them that this was too thin; that it may break in the lock as I twist it. They complain that my original key was thin as well. After a few more exchanges, they reluctantly made another copy but this time I could tell just by looking at it that its not the right thickness. They kept telling me to try it first before I say it wont work. I tired to show that the thickness didnt match but they didnt want to hear it.When I came home to try it, low and behold it didnt go in the lock. SMH. Never going there again.
Dishonest practices and poor communication. Dropped lawnmower to get primer bulb replaced on a Sunday. Was told they needed to order the part, made to give a $25 deposit, and told to call back on Friday. Called back Friday, they said it wasnt ready but try back the following Wednesday. Called back Wednesday and was told that lawnmower still wasnt ready and theyd give me a call to update me. When I finally called back two weeks later, I was told that the tech had yet to look at it because they had been swamped and they still were unsure if the needed part was in. I told them I understand that its a busy season and I would just pick it up and take it somewhere else. They mustve thought I was bluffing because on the phone I was told that I was welcome to do that, but when I actually showed up to the shop, I was told that my lawnmower had already been taken apart, the tech had to leave early because of an emergency with a dock grandmother in NYC, and that I would lose my $25 deposit if I took my lawnmower as is. Basically, they held my lawnmower hostage, but promised Id be first in line Monday morning and it would be finished. Then, theyll probably try to overcharge me for service time. If they were that swamped and wouldve told be upfront that it would take a minimum 2-3 weeks to get the part and replace it, I wouldve at least been given the opportunity to make an informed decision to stay with them or to take it elsewhere. But they promised it would be done within 5-7 days and when they couldnt deliver in that promised, they failed to communicate openly or honestly with me about where they were in the process. I couldnt UN-recommend this place any stronger. If Google allowed me to give 0 stars or negative stars, I would.
I was in the S&H Hardware in Huntingdon Valley. I want to say that I had a great experience compared to other stores like this. As soon as I came in the store a staff member was there to attend to me. He was so helpful to me and helped me pick colors and combinations. He was so patient and helpful because I am not knowledgeable regarding these types of hardware purchases. Vanities and faucets and such. Anyway all I really want to say is that I was treated very fair. My product came in on time and I was pleased with everything. You guys have a customer for life. BTW my contractor wanted to know where I purchased from because he said he has never seen such nice quality of product.
Had a large mirror placed in a frame. Service was quick. Price was reasonable. Have been going there for over 25yrs.
Not sure if it was because Im a woman or because Im Black but the white guys working there talked to me like Im a three year old, used condescending tones and dismissed my questions and comments as if I were an annoying gnat. Was there three times over two days and the same two guys had the same attitudes with me and not other customers (who happened to be older white men). There were kids/teens working there and I feel bad that these are the business mentors they have. Either way, I love supporting small business over larger box chains but this wont be a hardware store that Id return to.
Believe the reviews. From a customer service perspective, one would think that a smaller retailer would provide stellar service. Unfortunately that is not the case with S&H. We were told that our part would arrive in 1 week. That week, no part-no follow up from the store. We gave it another week; once again no part-follow up, we phoned again the following week, same answer, slightly different details, but certainly the next week it would arrive, guess what? From a marketing standpoint, we will follow up with the distributor in our case, and ask them to seriously consider their relationship with S&H and how their indisputable reputation could negatively impact the well-heeled distributors brand equity objectives.Avoid S&H.
They have alot but the customer service was horrible. Every last employee ignored me when I asked for help
0 StarsS&H has an incredible selection of hardware. The problem is getting that hardware after it is ordered. 12/12/13 I ordered mortise locks from Jim who was very knowledgeable about them. The problem was I was told 2-4 weeks with the holiday coming. After 2 months, quite a few phone calls and story changes from Jim, I had enough. The plating company is closed, the snow, I said I could of walked to California in this amount of time. On 2/12/14 I went back to S&H to speak with Jim, after being fed more bull%$#* I bought mortise locks he had but not what I had ordered to get doors working again. I put a $200 deposit on the first order, when I went back bought what he had not what I ordered, I was left with a $31.46 credit, I was told would be put back on my card. As of 6/1/14 I still have not received my credit. Banking issues I was last told. If you are using S&H be sure to buy only what they have there, cause ordering seems to be a problem. Unless of course you like the run around from your vendor.
Worst customer service. They make promises, take a deposit, never come through and keep your deposit. Everytime I call the Castor Ave location I get a different story and a promise to receive a call back, which never happens. They are knowledgeable, but its not worth the aggravation. Try to avoid doing business with them.
Good service. Had what I needed but was a bit pricey. Still better than going to a big box store.
How no one has put a civil law suit against S & H Supply Co. is beyond me. The WORST! They need to be CLOSED!They literally bullied me. Took my power washer there at the recommendation of the manufacturer and they manipulated and lied through the whole process. They put in the wrong pump and claiming they were giving me a deal. The manufacturer sent them a new pump to install and they were to give me the money back. After the power washer was there for one month and a half, I went to it pick it up after I called and told them I was done playing games and wanted my machine and refund.Upon arrival, the owner cowardly talk about me behind the counters, and had his employee (Aaron) deal with me. He proceeds to write on the receipt No Warranty why??? The machine was being serviced for a pump that Simpson(Manufacturer) sent to them. So I asked why are you writing no warranty on the receipt, no reply, and just tells me that either I sign the receipt or they are locking the door and I can come back to get the power washer some other time. So, I crossed out the No Warranty and signed the receipt; so then they would not give me a copy of the receipt. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICELuckily, I videoed the whole conversation and they are not done with me. They are accustomed to bullying their customers and the customers get so frustrated that they just let it go. Unfortunately, manufacturers keep sending customers to them (I am making sure Simpson is well aware of this situation and rethinks of giving them any more business) and they continue to be able to keep their doors open through that NOT their good costumer service or good work ethic.
Best place ever for emergency parts . Im tired of home Depot. N there staff has no clue . Sn h was the BEST!. If u need it, they got it 👍👍👍👍👍. Definitely will be back . Thanks.
I moved in the Huntingdon Valley area 16 months ago. I purchased an older home (80 years old ) that required much work starting from the plumbing to the hardware around the house. I wanted to re-store the house to somewhat near original, but after going on line and traveling all over the tr-state area, I stumbled on now my favorite place. I purchased product starting to renovate my home from a place in chestnut hill but I will not mention their name. They were OK, but I was not thrilled with them. My third contractor (after firing my first 2) told me to try a place called S&H Hardware in northeast Philadelphia. I do not understand why these guys have several negative reviews but I have been quite happy from the beginning using these guys. If they dont have what I need, they special order it. I asked the sales person every time I order product what the lead time is. I have ordered over 16 months probably $15,000.00 worth of hardware and plumbing and some items have taken as long as 8 weeks, and some items I have received in as soon as a week. As long as you question these guys what the lead times are when you order, you should not have any problems. There were times when I needed product real fast so I settled for hardware that I could live with because the product I wanted had to be made and the lead time was three to four weeks. Sometimes I could wait this long, but other times I could not. Some of the reviews they talk about grumpy sales people, but I have visited this store over 50 times in the last 11/2 years and am always treated well.I guess you cant satisfy everyone, but some of their customers while shopping in their store seem to be real jerks. These guys work real hard at their job and I would not trade places.Talk about being competitive, I always price shop these guys and sometimes they are a few pennies more than other places, and sometimes they are less, but the most important issue here is their knowledge. Their knowledge is worth part of the price and their advice is usually amazing. All I can say to those of you with the negative reviews, is I am one of the toughest customers out there, as I never settle, and the sales people at S&H have been great. To hell with those who dont like shopping there, it will just give them more time to spend with myself and all of my friends.By the way, I have sent at least 20 of my friends and family to this place, and I have never heard anything bad from anyone I have sent in there.Thank you guys, for all the good stuff you have done for me, and thanks for putting up with my wife. I know she can be very difficult. These guys deserve the full 5 stars
I have never had a bad experience here -- from my very first visit to my many returns. Amazing help (they really are experts on what they sell), and I find things at S&H that I couldnt ever get anywhere else!
Rude, Arrogant, and speak to woman like trash. Overcharge and rip people off. NEVER AGAIN. Dont waste your time, there are many other places or order on line in advance if you know you are going to need parts. Everything is TWICE the price of other places,,I kid you not. I asked a question about the mark-up of the items I was purchasing and he told me to NEVER make an accusation in the store. I stated I dont understand how the same exact item is 1/2 the price on line with free shipping and he raised his voice and talked down to me and said I made accusations. Seems to me that I made a statement. (GUILTY MAYBE)??? They lost my business. I cant believe the price they want for Rock Salt and the safer brands for pets and concrete. UNREAL!!!
Under different circumstances I would rate this store 6 stars. They have a great staff and are very well stocked. Theyre only problem is they have a NO RETURN policy. This means if you buy something mistakenly thinking it would solve your problem and you bought the wrong part the most you can get is a store credit which is useless as the credit will be forgotten by the time you need to use it unless you find what you need. Any difference in price is a store credit which is useless.
Needed a hard to find part for my heater furnace on a Sunday and without any HVCA suppliers open, I was out of luck. S&H asked me my heater make and model, the part I needed and 5 minutes later I had a call back saying the part was in stock. Everyone in the store was ready to help when I showed up and now an hour later Im home with a working heater. Thanks guys!!
Outrageous behavior! The owner Herb Stern that also goes by an alias of Justin Cooper is as nutty as they come. Herb had ordered over $5,000 of hardware from me, which is great. However, he later told me he was spending his stores mortgage payment on the hardware and his business partner was mad at him.He then lashed out at me and went on a 3 day tangent. He e-mailed and Facebooked me non-stop, making threats, telling me that he has cop friends in my state that will make problems for me, calling me names, harassing me, accusing me of ripping him off, etc. He called from blocked numbers trying to provoke my staff and I. His wife sent me harassing e-mails at 5am. His business partner, Phil Stern sent me harassing e-mails. They all were unnecessarily worried that they were going to get ripped off and not receive the hardware he ordered. He also made threats that if the $5,500.00 order was missing even one single key (17 cents) that he would charge back the whole $5,500 some odd dollars from his credit card. Basically acting like a child that steals from adults. Very unreasonable behavior.I will never even sell this man or this store anymore hardware. Muchless would I ever spend a single penny of my money with children like S&H Hardware.Stay far away.UPDATE: Since posting this review yesterday, Herb Stern aka Justin Cooper e-mailed me this morning. He demanded I take down this review that he claims is 100% false. He threatened to do everything he could to ruin me.I told him I stand by my review. I even gave him the opportunity to explain to me where it was in this review that Im providing an inaccurate description of what happened. He told me that I have 24 hours to remove this review or everything will blow up in my face and Ill regret it!He continued to e-mail me almost a dozen times today, talking tough, making threats, demanding I remove this review.I finally got to the point where enough is enough. Its been almost 2 weeks since this order was initiated, he has all of his stuff that he ordered, he has harassed me non-stop for days and days and days. I told him that if he sent me one more hot-headed e-mail that I would block his e-mail address. He sent me 3 more e-mails within 10 minutes. He explained that he counted all the keys and everything was fine but he wants to double count. He claims he has no time to do this for a couple more days. Seems to me that if he stopped harassing me, hed have plenty of time to count the keys 2, 3, 4 or 10 times if he wanted.Instead he just wants to harass me for a few more days. I told him that if he comes up short to e-mail me the claim and wed take care of it for him. I also explained that if he continued to harass me, Id have to block him. He just couldnt help himself, he continued to e-mail me all morning.Hard to believe this man is in his 60s. I had no choice but to block his e-mail address. Im just wondering how long it will be before Im forced to petition a judge for a no-contact-order. (those cost money, but there is little choice I have left.)
This store has EVERYTHING!!!! Staff is always willing to help and give advice. Always a pleasant experience shopping here
If you cant find what youre looking for and a hardware store here in this store S&H you wont find the nowhere in Philly great service knowledgeable very and very hospitality when you walk in is like a family your own
Excellent customer service! I walked in looking for a specific vanity bathroom light bulb, and a worker was quick to assist me in getting the correct bulbs that I needed. Thank you!!!
We were thrilled that S&H Hardware was able to make a part for a faucet that is no longer manufactured. But more important was the exceptionally high level of service they provided. Their expertise, knowledge and follow through are rare. I highly recommend S&H Hardware.
What a rip off! They have had my weed trimmer for 6 weeks now and it still is not done. Excuse after excuse. Manager is rude. They make you feel like they are doing you a favor by selling you something. I really dont know how this place stays open. Buyer beware!!
Visited on 3/3/18. After trying home Depot and Lowes, and not finding what I needed, I called here and asked. They had it! (Flapper system touch flush, for an older eljer toilet) Not only are they very nice, but also very knowledgeable! Plus have EVERYTHING! lol. I will definitely come back and will recommend the store! Thanks again!
Great Hardware store good selection of faucet stems..
Support local businesses!
People there are knowledgeable and know what theyre doing but seriously, its like they let a mentally disabled kid set their prices.
They are listed as an authorized Ryobi service center. They were able to get my warranty item replaced the same week. Great service!
Omg didnt know a hardwares store like this exist... Actually I was at home depot... they didnt have what I needed so he sent me here! They have everything u need Excellent service
If this is the place on Castor Ave. I didnt like how they handled our issue. Customer satisfaction is suppose to matter when needing help, parts, and advice from those who know. Parts and labor to expensive. No concern for you after they get your money. I dont recommend a better rating ifyour issue was never resolved.
Probably the best hardware store in the Northeast. They have literally anything to fit these aging rowhomes which were not built the same. Most dimensions are an inch or two different from one another and standard where applicable but this store has the parts for all, even the parts you wouldn’t think are made anymore (ie window weights and spiral hangers). They generally cost a couple bucks more than the chain stores but the quality is much higher, the guys working there are all knowledgeable and helpful and they have what you need in stock.
If they dont have it-theyll get it of it dont exist. Ole fashioned service. Miss these REAL hardware stores. Screw Lowes & Home depot.
Good place to buy tools 👍🏻
Took an Axe to get sharpened, the associate said 1 week. I go back 10 days later and was told it was sent away and not back yet. I go back 1 week later and was told, definitely in 1 week. I just spoke to them, they have big jobs so your axe was put on the side. Go back in a week and was told they were backed up and if I knew how the hardware industry was then I would know that you cant put a time limit on work . Business is business and your word is your word. This business doesnt keep its word and has disgusting, disrespectful and insulting customer service. I would recommend any other business over this one. While standing there, each time, I noticed they treat females like they know nothing and then degrade them when they walk away from the counter.
This place has everything and more if u cant find what you need at Lowes or Homdepol this is where you go to .but the bad thing if you buy something dont waste your time trying to go get your money back because they are not giving your money back only store credit.
The saleman was able to get all of the materials that was requested. This hardware store has just about everything for gardening. They also make keys. The salesmen are very knowledgeable about hardware.
So they are supposed to be experts but really don’t care about advising you incorrectly when it comes to spending your money. I was ill advised and after 6 months I’m still trying to resolve the issue.... (there is no urgency and they don’t care about your project- missed every promised delivery date!)....the vendor agreed to take back the $800 in product without penalty but SH refuses to pass that along in a refund. Their vendors are reputable but they are not. They promised me a store credit - (not interested!) however I’m still waiting for them to process the paperwork after 3 more months after the vendor approved the return. By the way-they pretend they are an approved supplier of blumotion hardware but they aren’t so blumotion won’t help me directly. I’m stuck with these bozos!!!
I love going to this store.they have everything.even trains.back the small business every time.
