They have really cool flavors like salted caramel and lavender honey! I got their Dark Chocolate ice cream and its so chocolatey. It was good. Their service was also good. Everyone was nice. They sell their ice cream in pints, too!Parking is a bit hard. They have street parking, but I parked in the residential area since the street parking was full.

Cant miss it from the outside, the sign is very noticable. Once you walk in you can small the vanilla bean and fresh handmade waffle cones. The menu was delicious with unique flavors like a lavender honey, salted caramel, lemon basil sorbet and brown sugar vanilla bean. The employees were super friendly and offered a small sample of a few flavors. Definitely a great spot for dessert

The ice cream was a little pricey but it was really really good. My only complaints are the price and the softness off the ice cream. My daughter wanted to taste test one and he put it on a spoon and handed it to her and as he handed it to her it slipped right off onto the floor. I was only going to get ice cream for my kids but when I tasted my son’s fresh mint ice cream cone I walked back in and bought me a cone. The cup was really small. The cone I think was worth the price. We parked in the front of the store. There were only 2 parking spaces on the street. The guy was a little slow at getting things and it took a little while. I would go back. The store was fairly clean. The floor was sticky, my shoes stuck to the floor and when we wiped up the ice cream my daughter dropped the napkin turned black. Everything else looked clean though. I would like to try other things they offer. We will see if we are ever back in Pasadena.

If you have to drive to get ice cream from Carmelas Id say dont do it. Im walking distance to this place so I tried it thinking it must be good cuz its always packed in front of the store. But they are packed cuz theres no where to sit and enjoy the ice cream. You actually have to take turns sitting on their one and only bench. Ice cream is ok. I have to say Employees are nice.In Pasadena I like Handels Homemade Ice Cream more.

Love the ice cream here. Its quite creamy and sugary. I usually get the cup. But I think the superb waffle that they have would help balance out the ice cream. The flavors arent extraordinary. I dont like their wooden spoons but I love coming here.

This is my wife and I’d favorite ice cream in SoCal. I lived in Pasadena for 4 years and when I found this spot I was sold!! They offer various flavor throughout the year and honestly there’s no flavor I’ve tried that isn’t delicious. My favs are earl grey and roasted sweet potato. The menu says one scoop but it’s actually 2 scoops and you can choose 2 different flavors. They let you try as many as you like and the staff is friendly and helpful. Parking can be a hassle during busy times and there’s only one bench to sit 2-3 people but if you are near this place TRY IT!

The waffle cone is so good, I can eat it on its own. Of course, the ice cream is the highlight. I havent tried a flavor that I didnt like. However, my all time favorite is raspberry rose 🌹😋.

This was, the most MIND BLOWING delicious, walk over glass, vanilla ice cream I have ever had, technically, it’s their brown sugar vanilla bean, it is well worth the calories or drive, or anything else you need to sacrifice for it. Ice cream was creamy, and the salted caramel was really good too.

This place is incredible, I no longer live in Altadena but will happily drive here because it is SO good. The mint chip is divine and unlike any other ice cream I’ve ever had. The cocoa nibs flavor is also amazing and the cocoa nibs are full of texture that offset the smooth creaminess of the ice cream.

Google says its open today Saturday March 20th. The website says its open. The sign in the door says its open. BUT, after driving 15 miles to get here - the place is CLOSED. Way to keep things organized and your would be customers informed. Will never be back.

Went to Carmelas for the first time, really excited we live so close to an ice cream shop but the experience was awful. We had heard it was pricey but never was told about how bad the ice cream was. For one scoop its 6$ and three scoops its 10$ and no toppings, thats insane, when i can get something bigger for much cheaper and better tasting! The ice cream left a oily film all over mouth and tongue and when we looked it up online its cause they made the ice cream improperly. Go to a different ice cream shop that you know is good and dont waste your time and time on trying something new. Not worth it.

Salted Caramel is to die for! The waffle cones are so light and perfect. Ice cream is perfect consistency, not too creamy. It is loaded with flavor. Ask for a plastic spoon if wood is a problem in your mouth. Would have given five stars but price is a bit steep, however worth it! No place to sit inside though. Very friendly and welcoming place!

Carmela has the best ice cream. Very flavorful. I only stop by when Im in the area but when I lived around the corner, I was there frequently. Stop by theybneed our business. We want them around after the pandemic.

The ice cream here is think and creamy. All the flavors are unique and made from the finest ingredients. The shop itself is very small and easy tip miss, but its worth the hunt! My friend has told me that they had a Guinness stout flavor during St Patricks day last year. Im crossing my fingers that they are bringing it back this year so I can try it.

Worst experience at Carmelas Ice Cream... ever! WHERE DO I BEGIN? None of your clients were considerate of others let alone following any safety measures. Your employees not only gave my order to someone else but they ran around like headless chickens as people stood and blocked your tiny stores doorway to take selfies with their ice cream cones... Seriously?? Super disappointed with this experience and the actions or lack there of on behalf of your staff. You guys should really be more concerned about health and safety of your clientele. Wont be coming back.

Its alright. Dont go there hoping for a place to relax. Moreover, dont listen to the It lives up to the hype posts if youre a big ice cream eater, because youve probably had better. Thats not to say its bad, but the price versus flavor quality and quantity, youd be better off going to Cold Stone. The upside is that most things are made with guiltless natural ingredients.

Amazing, high-quality ice cream. Equally awesome staff. Never been disappointed in a trip here. They have a staple set of flavors they keep all year, and some that change with the seasons. The flavors are unique, and not your typical vanilla, chocolate, or rocky road. The must try is their lavender honey that strikes the perfect balance of sweetness, lightness, and enough lavender that you can taste it without being overpowering. For summer, their strawberry buttermilk is fantastic, with sweet strawberries balanced out by tangy buttermilk. Other notable flavors are their mint chip, earl grey tea, and cardamom. Highly, highly recommended.

A friend from college had a tub of Carmelas Cardamom flavor in her freezer and I fell in love as soon as I had a bite! Unfortunately my experience with the ice cream at the actual brick and mortar store has not been a love-at-first-sight experience.Carmela really hits the nail on the head with the flavors-- they are interesting and varied. Every flavor is unique from the next and keeps you interested! What I cant get over is how icy the ice cream is- It doesnt even stick together when the servers scoop and the consistency is all wrong for me. Its almost a dry kind of texture. And its been this way all 3 times Ive visited. I always leave disappointed.TLDR; What I love the most about ice cream in general is creamy soft texture but Carmela does not deliver on that. Come here if you dont mind your ice cream on the more icy side.

Fantastic icecream very few traditional flavors if any. Try the Top two brown sugar vanilla bean, and salted caramel if you want something familiar. If your more adventurous not branch out and try their amazing array of flavors.

My new FAVORITE ice cream spot!Ive had Carmelas bookmarked for awhile and since its getting progressively hotter, I suggested dropping by after a hike in Pasadena with my friends to cool off.We each went a little sample crazy and tried at least 5 different flavors posted that day, but the guy behind the counter was awesome and totally patient with us. I ended up getting a mix of the Raspberry Rose Sorbet and Cantaloupe Sorbet. It was so flavorful and refreshing! I absolutely love fruity and floral flavored ice cream so it totally hit the spot for me! I loved it so much in fact that I ended up buying a whole pint of the Raspberry Rose Sorbet to bring home with me.The prices are a little high for ice cream but keep in mind that they use high quality organic ingredients from the local Farmers market. Also since the small cup is around $4 for one scoop, Id recommend buying a pint for $9 to take home instead if you already know what flavor you like. There was also a special if you buy two pints. Buy one for $9 and get the second for $6!So far Ive visited Carmelas twice and Ive taken my bf and my mom to try the ice cream. During my second visit, we all agreed that the Fresh Mint and Lavender Honey were our favorites for the day. The flavors seem to transition everyday so i cant wait to come back again to sample what other delicious flavors they have in store!

And finally, they carry Blue Bell cupcakes, which are impossible to find elsewhere. The salted caramel and red velvet are my favorites. Top notch experience!

Im not a person who really cares whether or not something is organic or non GMO. Food is more than just a means to take on calories to keep on living. Its Joy, Caring and Love. And I can honestly say that I somehow can feel those things translate into this ice cream/sorbets.While most of the flavor offerings arent my cup of tea, the Earl Grey flavor will definitely please Bergamot Lovers. My favorite though is pear champagne. One doesnt often find ice cream in pear, but not only is it offered her regularly, it is done VERY well...As boutique ice creamers go, 5 to 7 dollars for a single scoop seems to be becoming the norm. And while I think thats still outrageous, I still find myself coming back for a scoop, regularly enough.I would rate this 4.3

Unique flavors, such as cardamom along with more traditional, like mint, which is vanilla with mint essence nd small chunks of chocolate.i dont throw this word out lightly: it was divine.

Every flavor was perfect...must go there, and try their home made ice cream. Absolutely unique selection.

I just had the pumpkin spice and it was delicious, but my favorite is mint with cocoa nibs with toffee pieces on top. They just need a bit more outside seating. Very clean and organised.

A little bit goes a long way, so dont let the price deter you.They are also environment conscious: They offer taste samples from little metal spoons to minimize waste, the spoons for customers are wooden and their containers are biodegradable. The customer service is also friendly and patient. They also have some of their flavors packed and ready to go. This is a great quality treat, made with quality ingredients.

We dont feel so guilty indulging in this ice cream because they use good wholesome ingredients without loads of preservatives and flavorings. So its worth to pay a little bit more for great quality and great tasting ice cream. Even late at night you might find people lining up to get their ice cream fix. Service is always friendly, they dont get annoyed with me when I ask to sample their flavors and cant seem to make a decision on which ones to buy. The only challenge here is the parking sometimes, but often we get a spot on the street.

Found this fabulous shop while browsing for ice cream shops. Close to my house. I read the reviews and I must say they do not do this store JUSTICE!! I cant wait to see their truck at a food event, just to tell them how much I love their store. I usually am a chocolate maniac, but something told me to try their sorbets. AMAZING. i HAVE NEVER TASTED FLAVORS like theirs before. So looking forward to going again!! Just hope I wont have to fight off all the crowds,w hen everyone discovers this over-looked gem!!

As I am writing this review, I am reminiscing about that unforgettable lavender honey ice cream, the romantic Earl Grey tea, or the exotic (seasonal) Guinness and refreshing cucumber sorbet. They also offer ice cream classes too - a little pricey at $125/person though!

My wife and I have been here several times. Its not our fault, the magnet of sweets draws us in. Darn sirens of cream! They offer a lavender vanilla that is sublime. Strawberry ice cream is the best. But this place is a treat.

Always packed. Make sure you try the flavors first so youre not surprised, even if you choose regular flavors like espresso or chocolate...flavor is different than what youre used to.

I dont get the trend of ice cream just taking like frozen milk. This is basically just flavored frozen milk...reminded me of why I hated homemade ice cream growing up, it was a bad recipe and poorly made. This is a step up from that.For contrast of what ice cream I do like: Paradise Ice Cream in Old Town or Fossilmans in Alhambra.

The strawberry buttermilk is to die for and I try to get it every summer. All of the unique ice cream flavors have never failed me. Love this place!
