You don’t curse at customers! Let me start by saying I have referred many friends and family members to Brown Manufacturing over the years. I have always thought a lot of their products and their service. I like that they are family owned and operated. However, the encounter I had today with Mr. Brown’s daughter was, without question, the worst customer service experience I have had in years.I took a rotary cutter to Brown Manufacturing to have a new gearbox installed. It was a very last minute thing and the people at Brown went above and beyond to accommodate my need in a timely manner (same day service in fact). I believe the gentleman who wrote my service order was named David. He was very helpful. He told me the part would cost around $650 plus labor and tax. I gave him my contact info and he said he would call me if anything changed or they were not able to fix it that day. ( I have attached screenshots of a text message from around this time expressing my pleasure with how David treated me) When I returned to collect the cutter, I was informed that the repair bill had ballooned to $1500. I did not learn of the increased cost until after the work was completed.I was instructed to go to the front office to pay my ticket. This is when I encountered Mr. Browns daughter. I do not recall her name. I mostly recall hearing her curse at me for commenting that I would not have authorized such an extensive repair on a 20+ year old cutter, had I been made aware of the cost before hand. After I made the aforementioned comment, Mr. Browns daughter became extremely agitated. She took the comment entirely too personally. She asked me “Who are you even?!” She also told me things had been “shit” at Brown Manufacturing because someone was out of work with COVID. She made other rude remarks in a very disrespectful tone. I felt embarrassed for her. It was truly disappointing to see a member of the Brown family behave in such an abhorrent manner towards a customer. I was clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time. Customer service is a big deal. Brown Manufacturing dropped the ball today. It only takes one employee to undo the hard work of many others.
I needed information and a dealer with the item I needed. They took the time to explain everything I asked, pointed me in the right direction, and in less than a week, I purchased from a suggested dealer, with 100% satisfaction. Brown Mfg is a breath of fresh air after dealing with a few others.I base my judgment on 20 years as a purchasing agent, dealing with less than pleasant vendors.Brown is #1.
