I am a little sad about this review. This is easily the best coffee shop Ive been to in Florida, and Ive been to quite a few. Problem is, I live over 200 miles from here. The coffee was excellent, the cheese danish and pumpkin bread were fantastic, but what really did it for me was the staff. The man, who I assume was the owner, immediately guessed that it was our first time there, and as we sat and enjoyed our coffee, I came to understand why. He knew every single person who walked in; there were no fewer than twelve people who came in while we were there, and he was asking them about tests, first dates, back injuries, all unprompted. Places like this are rare; might just be worth another 200-mile trip.
Calusa Coffee is located in a converted house. While the immediate area is somewhat gritty, the roaster creates a pleasant environment. They do have their own roaster and serve the standard barista made drinks. Calusa has both inside and outside seats to sip your coffee. The coffee was decent although they had less emphasis on the “artistic design” that you typically find in similar higher end speciality coffee shops.
Decided to give Calusa Coffee Roasters a try instead of Starbucks. Best decision I made that day! Great customer service, he gave me a quick run down on my options and what their signature coffee was. The smell of the coffee beans roasting onsite added a lot to the experience too. I spent the rest of the day bragging about how well the coffee tasted. Would recommend!
This is an unsuspecting little gem. I truly appreciate a great cup of coffee and they definitely fulfill that. They have coffee from different countries and depending on who the barista is, determines from where your beans will be from. The people who come here are definitely regulars and have a great rapport with the staff. They close at 2 so be sure to grab your Java before then. Highly recommended.
Best choice I made was grabbing a latte and bringing beans back home to Texas. I was able to enjoy it twice! Great coffee. The taste is remarkable. The owner is friendly and passionate about making good coffee. No frills drinks - not a place for a Frappuccino 😀.
Calusa has the best coffee! I’ve had their pour over and macchiato, both are phenomenal! I firmly support local small businesses and this shop is one I would recommend. Cheers!
I would give 4.5 if that was an option, but it is not, so I gave it 5 stars. Calusa is a small coffee house, quite literally a house functioning as a coffee establishment. It was very cute and inviting. They roast the beans in house and you can even watch the process. The service was friendly and welcoming. I had the cappuccino and my bf the latte and we shared a delicious chocolate almond croissant. The coffee was very good and had zero bitterness (a sign of good roasting and brewing techniques). They do not flavor the coffee for you and thus provide a small selection of sweeteners. Overall I enjoyed the ambiance and the coffee. This would be a nice place to go to for a casual date or meetup with a friend. The inside is pretty small with limited seating. I would not recommend for very large groups.
SUPERB coffee & roasted onsite!! Owner is always present. Hes very friendly & welcoming. I highly recommend. A hidden gem in Oakland Park !! Enjoy !!
Lovely little spot....tight parking, but great coffee.
AMAZING COFFEE!!! I scoured the Lauderdale by the Sea and Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach areas for good coffee. This is hands down the best I found (although PAC Pastries wasnt bad either). I would return here again. I got a oar milk latte (no sugar or syrup) in 16oz (their large). It usually has 3 shots but I asked for 2. It was so good I went back and asked for thw 3rd shot. Smooth, just of the sweet side of the bean, as extractions should be. Loved it!!!!!!! No mask on barista though (during covid), so if that bothers you, beware. I wore mine and was fine with it.
I walked into Calusa Coffee Roasters on a whim. Im a Fort Lauderdale resident but I live further south and I dont know the area around Commercial very well. I happened to be nearby and wanted an Iced Latte. I did a quick search, and being a fan of local shops, I found Calusa and decided to give it a try.I walked in and to my surprise, I saw a familiar face! Luis owns the shop and funny enough, hes an old family friend whom I hadnt seen in years. It brought me such joy to see him in his element, in the shop he started and nurtured. I can speak from personal experience...Luis is a great person with a sharp sense of humor and zest for life. If you are interested in supporting local business owners, hes the guy you want to give your money to. The shop itself was cute and homey, well-curated, and had a very local vibe. I got the feeling that the people who were there were regulars and knowing Luis, he makes everyone feel like family.Best of all, the Latte I ordered was amazing. Plus, they sell wholesale for anyone interested. Great quality coffee.Highly recommend you check this place out if you are in the area! Its conveniently located East of 95 of of Commercial, so its easy to swing in there before you jump on the highway.Cant wait to visit again!
Loved coffee here. I’m a coffee lover and the perfect dark latte made my day! Coffee speciality place 5 stars.
Love the place. The price ok. The service excellent. Recommend.
Im a fan! Small cafe with limited seating. I ordered a lavender latte from the fancy sips selection, amazing! Not too sweet and the lavender wasnt too powerful prefect mix between the sweetness and lavender tasting. The chai latte was also good not too sweet. They have homemade chocolate chip scones. They were delicious and great portion size. Highly recommend this place. Next time Im planning to come back for a milkshake those also looked good.
Absolutely Love their fragrant, intense, real coffee 🤎Try their Macchiato.Customer service was top as well
Delicious coffee and the quiche was incredible. Staff was so friendly, too!
The Literal BEST place to get Coffee or in my case espresso never had coffee that healed my soul like this cappuccino, calusa never fails to deliver. Dont waste your money on Starbucks and Dunkin because they will inevitably make youre coffee wrong anyway.
Was really hoping to get some good coffee, BUT.... Although their listing on Google said they open at 9 am, I sat there from 8:55 am until 9:15 am. 20 minutes waiting and no one showed up. If you want coffee early in the morning, I suggest you find someplace else that actually opens on time.
A new favorite of mine since moving into the area a few months ago. Luis and Maria are wonderful people, and I love coming in to grab a cappuccino and freshly roasted beans to make my coffees at home. Highly recommend Calusa!
Delicious pastries. Freshly ground coffee. Adorable patio. Perfect pick me up / rest spot on your way up or down 95!
Great coffee plus they roast and sell their own beans. Excellent variety available. Luis and Maria are wonderful and very personable. I love it!
Finally! I found a place that makes great coffee. How many times have you tried a cup somewhere and it does nothing for you? Just blah. Not here. No frills just a delicious cup of brew. Charming establishment where you can read a book, sit outside, take a date to. Very impressed. Thank you Calusa. Ill be back! Ill even bring my girl.
Great place for coffee lovers it is made fresh everyday. Has its own grinding coffee machine just incredible. Service was great and people were pleasant. Also had vegan options.
Its all about the coffee! This coffee shop is an ideal spot for passing trade heading to the I95. Places to park, Very friendly service and as above. The coffee is perfect. Now if you wanting a casual relaxed sit down coffee then you might see why it only gets four stars. Its a small shop. Not too many places to sit if a couple are already sat down and its a lacking a bit of comfort or vision if that makes sense. Your not going to get any wifi if your planning a surf. In summary its a good brew and the rest is work in progress.
This guy knows what is good. Calusa is eco-friendly but not obnoxiously so e.g. straws and cups that you actually prefer using (I am thinking of those horrid paper ones). Calusa has tasteful decor - good, well spaced seating (NOT a covid reference) and intentional signs (coffee jokes that are funny and have personality, compared with the commonly seen puns that are not enjoyable). Calusa has excellent coffee, the best in the area. Calusa makes me, personally, want to grow vegetables and fruit trees on a jungle-ie island that I paddle-board every sunrise to get to - but that may be misleading to some, determine for yourself.
Best Latte I ever have❤️
It is a reasonable flavor and you get plenty of options.Price, to me, feels pretty high.Very dirty floor and no masks and social distancing.
Wao...one of the best coffee I have ever taste..
Great coffee and friendly service
This Fort Lauderdale coffee roaster is open to the public for fresh-made amazing coffee that is so fabulous. I love to have coffee here when I can get to this part of Fort Lauderdale on Commercial Blvd just east of I-95. Its worth the drive. When I finish having my coffee here I take home a pound or two of freshly roasted coffee to continue the experience at home until I can get back here for more.
Im not a coffee drinker at all! Occasionally weve passed by this coffee shop and Im always promised that I would taste the best coffee Ive ever had in my life. Well today was that day. We visited Calusa for a routine maintenance check on air conditioning unit. A friend of mine was drinking a cup of coffee and suggested that I just have a sip, reluctantly I said I dont like coffee, it doesnt taste good, Im not a coffee drinker; he pleaded with me to take a sip, I complied. it was the best coffee that Ive ever had. With little to no sugar added so I wanted to taste a cup without sugar. I got my cup of no sugar coffee, I took my first sip and it still tasted the same, amazing. Who would have thought that Id be writing a review about a coffee shop seeing as though Im not a coffee drinker. This cup of coffee absolutely changed my mind not saying that Ill become a regular coffee drinker but when I pass by this shop now Ill be more inclined to stop by for a cup of coffee.Thank you Calusa for making me a believe!
Friendly place that serves fantastic coffee.
Super disappointed!! Went for the first time during the week andI was the only customer. Very attractive and cool looking place that had a good iced oak latte. However, I tried decided to come back Saturday morning with my spouse, but sadly not a single employee or patron was wearing a mask inside. We turned around and left. That’s too bad, it seems they could have used our business as we both love supporting artisan and craft coffee shops.Judging by other comments, it’s clear they have taken a sad and unapologetic stance with regards to mask-wearing. They are perfectly fine losing business over a lack of scientific concern for patrons. This should tell you all you need to know.
Calusa Coffee is my favorite specialty coffee house and roastery in South Florida. Not only do they have friendly local customer service, they also have such a great selection of specialty coffees spanning from Colombia to Sumatra. Be sure to check them out! You wont regret it. Conveniently right off of I-95 on Commercial Blvd. ☕
What a hidden gem ! Not your typical coffee house and they even roast right on site. Great atmosphere, Wonderful coffee with a relaxed environment. Would recommend highly
Went in for a latte and left with 2 bags of some of the freshest beans I have had the opportunity to purchase. The gentleman who helped was knowledgeable and helped me select my beans based on my taste like a wine sommelier.Thank you will definitely be back
Its really important to me to support local businesses. However, with staff and patrons not reliably wearing masks, I unfortunately cant support this one.Of course, it is a free country, and they are welcome to do as they please, just wanted to call this out for those of us who cant (or wont) visit places where masks are not rigorously enforced.
Zero employees wearing a mask in a confined place. My life isn’t worth your coffee, wear a mask or you lose my business for good even after corona. Also I reported you guys to broward county. The minor inconvenience to wear a mask just to keep businesses open and people safe isn’t asking for a lot. You guys are the reason why we had to shut down in the first place. Your the problem and have no one else to blame but yourself when your business is shut down again because of your anti science and selfish unwillingness to wear a mask. For anyone reading go to tropibowl instead wear everyone wears a mask and the coffee is fine
Every time we visit Ft Lauderdale we make certain to visit the best coffee house in town. Whether you are an individual just looking for a cup of great coffee or want your beans roasted to perfection for your office buddies Calusa can supply. Dont forget a sweet or croissant to go with the coffee.
Great coffee. Great staff :)I’ve enjoyed the Brazilian espresso.
Calusa Coffee Roasters is the Best Coffee in Town Hands Down! Great spot to chill and have some good coffee they have Wi-Fi so if you want to play around on your phone or your computer you can do that as well! Luis is a great guy and hes my Marine Corps brother. His wife Maria will take great care of you as well. I go there every day so if you come on by you might see me sitting there as a permanent fixture haha!
The quality of the coffee is amazing. Highly recommend if you like locally roasted coffee.
I was searching for a new coffee shop to try aside from Starbucks. This place has a warm and cozy vibe. We got a cold brew and a latte, and I have to say the coffee was very delicious and authentic.
Nice small coffee shop with a great latte
First time visit and love the atmosphere and knowledge of coffee. Good people and great coffee!
I love this place! Its really homey and they roast some amazing coffee!
A gem! I was looking for a local roaster to buy coffee as a gift. Maria suggested the Art Deco blend that was a hit with the recipient.
I found this place on google and decided to stop by. Its a vary cozy and clean cafe with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The cold brew coffee I ordered was amazing and vary strong. I would definitely recommend to try this place out.
The coffee and customer service could not have been better. We had two pourovers, the Ethiopia and the Costa Rica, both excellent. Please go here if you care about coffee. This is coming to you from someone who has been a barista for 5 years.
If it is possible to give 10^10 stars, I would do without thinking. If you want “COFFEE”, this is your place. Thank you Luis!
This place is very cute and the drinks are very pretty!! my birthday cake latte was ok but the nutella hot chocolate is amazing !! would come again :)
I will here them again.
Nice Vibez
This is an absolutely wonderful coffee bar! Louis, the new owner is very friendly. It’s also a great place to bring a friend early in the mornings or in the afternoons. Having locally roasted coffee, you arr getting the freshest and best batches. There are so many wonderful cupping notes that are special to their beans that they roast here. Will be coming often!
Good coffee. No decaf available for the wife....
Great customer service.
The coffee is too expensive for the quality. Sour and bitter most of the time. The tables and chairs are ugly and not comfortable. Not a place you can relax with a cup of coffee.
One of the bests coffees in South Florida; Louis is truly a Master Roaster. Thanks 👍.
The best coffee i taste in FLORIDA
Wonderful experience here with excellent high quality coffee and awesome friendly servers and staff. The beans are high quality and the coffee is smooth and as delicious as can be. I’m so happy to have this place close to home. I recommend this place with their delicious coffee! A must try! Simply awesome!
My go to when vacationing at my condo in Palm Aire. I dont think you can find a better place for a great espresso. Just got back from 2.5 weeks there and really wish I had gone more often. Unfortunate chain of events did not allow me to visit much but on my last day this past Wednesday I stopped in after my daughter follow up at the Dr. Grabbed an espresso and we sat under a palm tree and just enjoyed the moment. I worked in the coffee businesses and he the owner knows what hes doing. Dont listen to the bad reviews. They do not appreciate good coffee. Keep it up
Top quality coffee. I could tell right away the paistries are made by a French baker. I love this place because there is nothing in this area that is decent quality.
Mango the cat was lounging at the front entrance to welcome guests. The decor is very well done, tropical/beachy but understated. This place will transport you to your favorite island getaway in an instant. Ordered the cold brew. So smooth you can taste the freshness. No cream or sugar required. A place coffee lovers will appreciate.
Best Coffee in Florida, really relaxed inviting environment. Freshly roasted coffee!
Amazing coffee in a relaxing atmosphere. The coffee is all delicious, being freshly roasted on premises..and not overroasted like a certain chain. And Steven the owner will explain his various blends to find you the right one if youre taking it home, or brew you a wicked drink if thats what you want. Really took my in-home espresso game to another level. The Art Deco blend is top notch. Definitely a local treasure!
The best coffee beans and Coffee in town!
Small and cozy, extremely good service, excellent coffee. Great place for family and business gatherings. Must go if you like coffee and you are in the area
My favorite local coffee roasters! Always have fresh beans and great conversation.
Great coffee with a very cozy vibe
Best coffee in town. For all the coffee connoisseurs out there you will enjoy this place. For those of you that like a good cup of coffee in the morning this is your place too!
Most importantly, good coffee. Also nice is the friendly service, decor (could use a little more curb appeal), effort put in and spotlessly clean. Check by after hours if youre near. I went after 3:30 and they were still open and welcoming while they were roasting.
I absolutely love the Brazil Cerrado whole coffee beans for my morning espresso. I first picked up a couple of pounds of beans while on vacation in Fort Lauderdale. Now I have to have it. 5 pounds every month!!!
They roast high quality coffee every day and serve both espresso and brew/drip coffee. You can choose between their different coffee beans which is nice. The espresso was very well done and taste obviously depends on the coffee beans you choose. Ask them for a recommendation to suit your taste. I prefer the intense African coffee types and it was awesome. Also tried different brewed/drip coffees which are done manually and perfectly with Hario equipment. They have seating and lots of magazines and some books so you can stay there to try some different coffees. Atmosphere is relaxed, its not crowded and staff is very friendly and gladly tells you a little about the coffee.Recommended if you cherish well crafted, freshly roasted coffee.
Great coffee. Will be back.
Just found my new spot for buying carefully sourced whole bean coffee roasted on-site in small batches for freshness and worth every penny. They sell samples so you can find your perfect bean, and you can enjoy a brew of your choice in their cozy, friendly, unpretentious cafe/shop.
Adorable coffee shop with kind service. The coffee was delicious! Some of the best Ive ever had. So creamy and good! The guy who helped me also made my day by being super nice.
Outstanding service. Support your local roaster. The coffee is excellent, the atmosphere welcoming.
Delicious coffee. Best fresh roasted beans in FL and a charmingly comfortable atmosphere. Definitely worth stopping in.
Very cozy, amazing empanadas and cold brew! Big fan
One of the few I can say deserve more than 5 stars. Charming coffee house (literally) with fantastic espresso and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit.
My favorite coffee roaster. Nice selection of single origin and blended beans. Freshly roasted. Some roasted while you wait. Had a cold brew made partially from beans soaked in an IPA. Amazing! A craft beer lovers coffee dream. The owner is great at describing all of his products. I dont miss it when Im in the area.
The fresh smell of coffee lures you in they have a nice variety the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly they kindly assisted me with my order.
Im surprised I didnt write this place a 5 star review sooner. Ive been coming to Calusa for a few months now. Best coffee beans in FL. I have tried other local roasters and Calusa is far superior in my opinion. Steve is a cool dude who is pleasant to deal with. Lots of variety and beans sourced from all over the world. Go here!
When you see more than 45 reviews and the total rate is 5 stars, you expect something is wrong, when you go to the coffee shop and have a cup of latte or buy a roasted coffee beans and try it home then you will know why it got 5 stars .The coffee taste is unique and the beans is one of the highest quality I tried and I am a traveler and tried coffee in different countries .And also the owner is super friendly person . So its a model of a small successful business. The only down side is the working hours, the shop close around 3:00 pm.
What a great find, felt like I was sitting in someones living room.Super knowledgeable owner and friendly guy. The coffee is excellent and so is the vibe of the place. Will be back.
Calusa has the best coffee in the world!!!Maria and Luis are so welcoming. Come in for a pleasant conversation and some Amazing Coffee.#MyFavoriteCoffeeShop#ILoveCalusaIcedMochas
Wonderful freshly roasted coffee! A great owner who is a pleasure to do business with. Only place in S Florida that I will purchase my coffee from..... and its a half hour drive each way. Definitely worth the effort.
Awesome coffee! Luis gave great service and explained about the coffees. Definitely coming back.
