Best waffles in town! Cute cafe inside an older house, but its set up with ample seating. Great ambiance with lots of windows and green plants. If you want artisanal, local, non corporate coffee and food... This is the place
Quality, elegantly prepared espresso drinks in a gorgeous setting - you cant beat the breezy, shaded wraparound porch. The waffles are exquisite also. Service is without flaw. There has always been ample street parking when I have visited.
The waffle breakfast sandwich, lemon curd waffle, and corn pancake are all just as incredible as they look. The people are nice, and its a very cute, quaint cafe for a brunch. Cant wait to try the rest of the menu!
Probably the best place to enjoy coffee outside on the porch in all of Hamptons Roads. I havenβt found a better place and Iβve been searching. The lattes are on point, the porch is charming and the staff is very friendly and go out of their way to bring you a glass of water when you didnβt even think to request it. Very kind. They also have a fridge outside for people who are in need of food which says a lot. Have not had the food yet but looks divine.
If youre in norfolk, check out this hole in the wall tucked away on Colonial Ave. Delicious food, tasty and beautiful drinks, phenomenal, kind service. We were even offered water while we waited for a pickup order, which was a great first impression. Menu is waffle centric, which is reasonable, because the waffles are fantastic-doughy yet fluffy with crystalized sugar. Quaint vibe and friendly atmosphere. I got the rosemary latte, hibiscus tea, and drip coffee. I tried the coconut loaf too. All were stellar, especially the latte. Vegetarian friendly.
Second time there. Sunday at lunch time there are barely seats. There are reasons for that: The attention is kind, the coffee is good, and the food is (at least for me) original and super tasty. I consider the price fair. The place is clean, the deco is hipstery and welcoming. Ill be making this my go to for Sundays.Edit: omg what is on those waffle sandwiches!? Today was DELICIOUS π my new fave Sunday breakfast joint.
Accidentally stumbled upon this place this morning for Mothers Day breakfast with my 7 yr old. It was delicious!!! He enjoyed his chocolate waffle. Ive never seen him eat so fast! I had the goat cheese waffle. I swear to you, Ive never had anything so delicious. I cant describe the taste but I can tell you, well probably be here every Sunday from now on. And my coffee was super fancy, like you see on TV, so that was cool too. Lol.
Fantastic food with excellent combination of flavors. Great staff. Cant wait to return.
Very good coffee, nice vibe. Definitely one of my favs
The waffle breakfast sandwich, lemon curd waffle, and corn pancake are all just as incredible as they look. The people are nice, and its a very cute, quaint cafe for a brunch. Cant wait to try the rest of the menu!
This blueberry latte is most definitely aesthetically pleasing ! The overall ambiance is blissful! The coffee was great I was just hoping for more of a pop of blueberry. The blueberry taste was very subtle. Not too sweet which I like, I was just thinking the blueberry flavor was going to pop a little more.
Let me just start by saying that if I could leave more than 5 stars for this review I would! This cafe has such a good vibe inside and just by looking at it from the outside it looks so cute like a cottage type house which I thought was so different and cool! And the food donβt get me started on the food.. I got the breakfast waffle sandwich which incorporated so many different flavors which worked so well together leaving me satisfied and full! Paired with the hot chocolate that I got you have many different options for milk choices and mine was with almond milk.. So good! And they make it fresh infront of you always with a lil foam heart on top! And the cherry on top that they are LGBTQ+ friendly just perfection (βββ‘ββ)οΎ I will be coming back here again β‘Β΄ο½₯α΄ο½₯`β‘
Absolutely one of my favorite places in Norfolk. Their handcrafted coffees rival any coffeeshop in the area. The menu is brief and always evolving with favorite staples returning from time to time. I highly recommend the orzo when its on the menu and you cant go wrong with a lemon waffle.
Some of the best tasting food in Norfolk, of any category.

First time visiting their brick and mortar. Had only had their food as pop up Waffle Tina. Love the permanent location. And as usual, the food was excellent.
For Waffletina lovers they have now found a permanent home and new name. A beautiful fully restored turn of the century Victorian charmer is now Mea Culpa Cafe. Now into their 3rd week Mea Culpas owners Cristina Angelo & Kristopher Harvey are serving up favorites from their pop up events. Also expect a few new items. Local Three Ships Coffee is on the menu and beans can be purchased in-store.Painstaking renovation has taken place in the 1906 Victorian located off Colonial Ave in Ghent, now being referred to as the Rail Road District. Dine in, or on their quaint wrap around porch. Much of the restoration was guided by historical grant money. This ensured it was done as accurately as possible and to code. Free free off street. The dine in space is bright with plenty of sunshine coming through large windows. The wooden floors are a marvelous mocha color. All seating is table and chairs. An enclosed fireplace is begging for something. A mural, a painting, or a mantle. I discussed this with Kristopher. My order a Liege Waffle Sandwich / cured pork, sun dried tomatoes, arugula, garlic aioli, fried egg. Paired with a vanilla latte and a God Speed coffee. Dessert coconut loaf. All amazing and fresh, fresh, fresh.Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality Cristina & Kristopher. Great things are coming your way. 4.5, rounding down with price point of coffee from Three Ships that pushes my budget and a limited start up menu. Hours W-Sun 8-3.
Great coffee and the food is phenomenal. Best leige waffles outside of Belgium, and better than a lot of the ones in Belgium.
I cannot speak highly enough of this place! They use Three Ships coffee, which is awesome as always, and offer a great basic selection of drinks, as well as some seasonal options. My husband and I each tried one of the two seasonal lattes, which were peach and blackberry, and really enjoyed that it was something super different! The atmosphere/aesthetic here was my favorite though - a hammock in the side yard, live plants everywhere, tons of open seating inside and on the front porch, and a really sweet espresso bar! Just a few steps away from Handsome Biscuit, so make a whole fun morning outing of it like we did, and you will not be disappointed!
Mea Culpa is the place to go for a lovely breakfast or lunch. They have Three Ships Coffee - absolutely the finest coffee in the area. Their liege waffle is made with a yeasted dough rather than a batter and rolled in pearl sugar before grilling. You can add lemon, coconut curd or goat cheese, and theresa chocolate maple flavor. Any are great, but the complexity and flavor of the waffle alone is delicious. At the moment you can get coffee and a waffle for $5, a fantastic deal! If waffles arent your thing, the savory oatmeal is unique and delicious. Instead of water or milk, this is made with a vegetable stock, and it has changed how we make oats in our home. This is a great place for everyone, including vegan and vegetarians.
So I had the pleasure of trying Mea Culpa for the first time because there was a Yelp Book Club meeting here! Dude, first of all, dont drive by too fast or youll miss it. I seriously thought it was someones house and people were just parked in front of it because there was street parking. NOPE! It was a legit cafe right next to Toast (if you love Toast like I do, go stop by Mea Culpa ASAP). And whoa, their oatmeal was a bowl of yummy goodness that I wasnt expecting? Like, I dont think I can eat another kind of oatmeal anymore, to be honest. Who knew that having a sunny side up egg with chili powder and all the other goodies in the oatmeal would make it taste extremely amazing and fulfilling?! I had no clue! Im glad I tried it. The iced tea was perfect. I love teas, and if a cafe doesnt have a good tea, its rare that Ill go again unless I love the food there. So Mea Culpa was two for two. It really is an amazing place. Go check it out like right now. Go on!
I live nearer to Pungo so I was super excited to finally be in the area and get to experience this place! I appreciated the fresh tasting, creative flavor combos and satisfying portions. Ordered the orzo bowl & waffle with lemon curd and you definitely get what you pay for. Atmosphere is good to study, do laptop work or hang with friends. Maybe we can talk about a second location? ;) Well done, Mea Culpa!

Mia Copa is another one of my favorite coffee cafes in Norfolk. Its atmosphere is pleasantly peaceful and if the coconut loaf is being served - get it with a hot, delicious French vanilla latte! If you want a life-giving salad, get the Orzo with toasted orzo pasta, roasted fennel, green onion, pomegranates and toasted walnuts. The owners are absolutely beautiful human beings -- I highly recommend you stop in!
I would die happy after eating this food. The cantaloupe cold brew was π£

Delicious food and super friendly staff. The inside is very neat and clean and there is a porch for outside seating. Great place.
I found Mea Culpa by chance and absolutely love it. I stop by any time Iβm in the area. Great options for vegans.
Great porch and delicious food!
This place has the best lattes in all of downtown Norfolk and VA beach. Itβs a little family shop. In addition to having the neat coffee experience, they also have a delicious waffle which is also a must have.If you enjoy a good treat on the weekends, this is the best place to stop.
Mea Culpa is in a cute little house in the railroad district of Norfolk (from the founders of the Waffletina food truck). Theyβre known for their liege waffles. I found the sweet ones better than the savory ones. The oat milk mocha latte was incredible. Iβll definitely be back soon!
I love Mea Culpa so much! It doesnt matter what you choose on the menu, its always freaking delicious. Staff is knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The space is decorated beautifully and feels super inviting. Dont second guess it, go here!
Great little cafe!! Perfect quaint place to study/work during a weekday, which is what I did. Love how open and airy it is in there. Would love to see more options on the menu, but what I did order was wonderful! Add cafe con leche please!
Absolutely fantastic. My girlfriend and I go every Sunday ever since the first day we tried it. The coffee is Three Ships and very good. The Lattes are amazing! The menu changes every week, but Im in love with each Liege waffle concoction that they surprise me with each week. Its a must go spot in Norfolk!
Stellar in every way. The quirky menu is small but filled with wonderful dishes. The savory oatmeal was a revelation and the owners were kind enough to share the umami secret (mushroom powder!). They use top-quality coffee and the place is spotless. Just go.
Cannot rave about this place enough! its adorable, the food is good, the coffee is good, and the neighborhood/civic engagement is even better. Every waffle sandwich Ive had there is incredible, its so hard to choose a favorite, and their sides are incredible! Dont forget the coconut loaf, you wont regret it. You can also feel good about giving them your money, since they give back as much as they can to supporting the local community.
Friendly staff and nice setting inside. Easy to pass the place given the lack of signage. Latte was fine, but not great; be aware they only had whole milk and nut / oatmeal βmilkβ.
Delicious food and super friendly staff. The inside is very neat and clean and there is a porch for outside seating. Great place.
Cool hipster coffee shop. Small menu but everything looks great. My roast pork sandwich on waffles was amazing
Very clean, very bright coffee shop with friendly staff. On warm days, you can sit on the nice wrap-around porch. I highly recommend the homemade coconut cake.
Very professional and big on hospitality Mea Culpa Cafe really is a hidden jem in Ghent. Perfect for a summer weekend brunch with a good menu of light but also filling dishes or fall coffee spot outdoors on their patio.Super great staff too! The only downside is that some items are a bit overpriced. For what youβre getting itβs expected with it being a local business, they still gotta keep the lights on, but overall really good.
Waffles are insanely good. You wont regret coming. Coffee is amazing, as well. Nice deck seating with cool atmosphere. Always great music playing, too.
I am visiting Norfolk for a wedding and the bride and groom brought be here for breakfast. I was hungover and this food cured me. It was so delicious- Iβm not sure we have anything comparable in Houston but I wish we did. The potato salad and the orzo salad were OUTSTANDING and the pork shoulder waffle was to die for. I love it there!
Good strong coffee, I like mine black. Waffle sandwich w arugula, pesto and mushrooms. Different but very well constructed and more importantly very good.Tucked away on Colonial across from the Handsome Biscuit, If Mea Culpa starts having breakfast then theres my go to breakfast place.
Not for cripples! Was raining and sidewalk to wheelchair lift was flooded 2.5 deep. Floor of lift was covered in wet maple leaves. As we were leaving, the lift froze an inch above the ground TRAPPING us inside! (door LOCKED as a safety feature). I escaped by climbing over the door, but my 93-yr old friend was stuck in her wheelchair in the lift in the rain. I cleared some wet leaves from under the lift and was finally able to get it down and unlock Donna. We were soaked when we got to the car.You know this lovely place is pretty good to have gotten my 4-star review after this incident!! Though I will upgrade to 5-star if they fix the problem and offer me one of those apologies - whats that Latin phrase? - where the party admits their blame?
This is the type of place that you try, and then keep coming back but with all your friends because itβs so good. The service and hospitality was as amazing as the food/coffee. (Highly recommend the savory oats.. best Iβve ever had) The owners are very welcoming and have something great going on here thatβs unlike anything else in Norfolk. Iβd recommend this place to anyone and wish them the best of luck!
You will pay a little bit more for a coffee, latte, or drink here. But it is totally worth it! Best coffee and latte I have had in Norfolk. If you truly enjoy coffee, you must try Mea Culpa Cafe .
Absolutely delicious! Love the oat latte and basically everything I have ever had there is amazing! Its a really great spot for lunch or brunch.
Cute little coffee shop! Nice and clean and has a lot of natural light which is great for working or studying. The coffee is great and although not a ton of food options the food is delicious.
Eclectic food and coffee in a cage in a very nicely remodeled older house. Cool vibe. Its a hidden little place, you could miss it if youre not looking. Just a sign on the porch of an otherwise unpretentious house.
Cute shop. Good food. Great latte art
This simple, sleek coffee shop is the only one in Norfolk that serves Three Ships coffee, the only local roasters whose style has more of a nuanced, West Coast taste. Its trendy without being pretentious - there are only a few drink and food options, but everything Ive eaten there has been not only good, but more sophisticated than what you usually get at a coffee shop. If you like Cure or Cafe Stella, then youll probably like Mea Culpa. The only reason I give it four out of five stars is that the baristas can sometimes be slow. Not because theyre not working, but rather that they are painstakingly measuring out each shot, etc. I think theyll get faster with time. As it is, I go to Mea Culpa to take a brief break from my busy day, and to stop and smell the coffee.
Good coffe 4 stars only because they close one day a week, I didnt try food yet
I think there is crack in the waffles they are so good. Ive yet to meet one I didnt like. Lemon curd is a fave!
The Liege waffles are always on point, and the various waffle sandwich creations never disappoint! Service is very friendly and helpful. They also did an amazing renovation job, creating a beautiful, quaint cafe.I wish theyd bring back the occasional Waffletina pop-up in Va Beach!
I stopped at Mea Culpa for the first time while I was just taking a walk and exploring, and boy did I find something special, Mea Culpa has not only amazing coffee, but arguably the best chocolate buns Iβve ever had and hands down the most amazing sandwich Iβve ever had, the chicken was cooked to perfection, the greens and carrots were fresh and flavorful, and the choice of sauce paired perfectly with it all. If thereβs one hidden gem I would have to reccome d to someone visiting, it would be Mea Culpa
Really nice place with delicious waffles and a very yummy savory oatmeal! Clean and cheery and the owners couldnβt be nicer!
Good vibe. Chris was gracious and informative. The drip coffee was one of the best drips Iβve had around town.
Super cute little house and yummy waffles love the cranberry one! Coffe was delicious!
Everything is made to order, so you need time, but so worth it. Very small menu. Delicious! Coffee is good, too.
My second visit. It gets better with every bite. I swear they put something in the waffles. If you havent been, then youre definitely missing out. Do not be put off by the small menu or the strange names of things. We know its your first time. Just let it happen. Youll be happy you did.
Only had coffee (Oat Mocha) but it was so good I came back for another one later that day π I will have to come try some food
Delicious savory oatmeal. Good place to meet up with someone or hide away and work.
Really nice. Porch is beautiful and breezy. Pulled chicken waffle sandwich was delish. Will go back again!
Great place for coffee and small plates. Extremely friendly staff and really nice laid back atmosphere.
Hipster coffee bar in the middle of Norfolk. Waffles are crispy and take on the flavor of the sauces. The halva waffle was my favorite.
Food is delicious, great atmosphere, and terrific people serving top notch food and coffee. I cant wait to go back!
Great coffee and really cool space. Wonderful customer service. Try the liege waffle with chocolate halva.
Amazing food, great coffee, great atmosphere! Its worth checking out weekly for the changing menu, plus great pastry, espresso and coffee drinks.
Perfect spot to hang out and grab some coffee paired with stellar waffles!
I enjoyed a delicious waffle and latte. The recently renovated space is modern and calm, and the staff is warm and welcoming.
Very cute little coffee shop hidden in the area!
Recommend stopping in and grabbing a cup and a waffle sandwich. Food was awesome, definitely a different take on chicken and waffles and my cortado was perfect.
Great find off the beaten path. Simple clean food.
Friendly service and very good food.
Great atmosphere for families, with yummy sweets to share!
Best place for a coffee and a waffle sandwich!
Great food, great service
Amazing food!!
Interesting take on a waffle!
I love thie pop ups, cant wait to try the new restaurant!
