Cute pizzeria and gelato restaurant near the pier. The pizza is typical Italian. The workers are friendly and willing to explain anything if you have questions. Its tight inside but they do have a seating area in the back.

Great Gelato yes but dont be fooled by the name! They are also known for some amazing Italian dishes. We happened to go 20 minutes before the Porchetta was ready. We ordered some beers and slices of pizza with basil (perfect Italiano)and waited!!!! Once it came out of the rotisserie they cut it right on the counter and free samples for all! The Porchetta on fresh toasted Italiano bread with fresh pesto spread was incredible. They only make the Porchetta on weekends. The owners and staff were so fun and friendly. This will be a must on every trip to Newport beach.

We were visiting from out of state and wanted to get a nice cold snack. We stopped here and tried some of their Gelato which was AMAZING! I would have honestly paid more than what they charged us because it was honestly that good.

As someone who grew up as an avid ice cream indulger, I was more than thrilled to hear of Il Gelato. They make real, home-made ice cream - none of that Pinkberry/Yogurtland fro-yo stuff.Parking can be a bit of a pain, depending on the time of day, and it isnt exactly cheap, but all in all I dont think you will be disappointed.

Friendly staff, maybe a little understaffed, but still a hardworking bunch of kids. There is a line, but please be patient. Good food when you are coming out of the Pacific Ocean and want a quick bite. They got beer and soda. Tell the manager you liked it. Shell take care of you....

I WORK NEAR THIS PLACE AND WHILE THEY HAVE GREAT PIZZA, AND WHAT LOOKS LIKE WOULD BE A GREAT BREAKFAST, THEY ARE NEVER OPEN WHEN THEY SAY THEY ARE GOING TO BE OPEN. I HAVE TO CALL AND CALL AND HOPE THAT THEY MIGHT ANSWER. I REALIZE ITS NOT SUMMER, BUT EVEN THEN THEY DID NOT KEEP THE BUSINESS HOURS POSTED IN THEIR WINDOW.

My friends and I swung by on our way home for some pizza around 1 am. We took home two hot pies and they were just what we needed.The cheese was good and the pepperoni was tasty. The crust was a little thick for my taste. The service was good and quick. Well be back for more late night pizza.

This is the place to find a good pistachio gelato ! The staff is very friendly, Jorge is really cool guy and fun . Is the second time That the pistachio gelato is no available I don’t know why when a lot of people ask for it . At least 3 people ask for it when I was in line .... the place is in a great spot . And the prices are reasonable (cheap ) to be in Newport .

Strolled in here on a Saturday night before midnight. The pizza is tasty and there was room inside to sit. Cute atmosphere with good music and speedy service. Will definitely be returning when Im in the area again.

Went back to this wonderful place twice in one day. Both times for the gelato! Ask for the Bombolone!!! To die for!! I will always come back here when I want gelato!

The veggie pizzas were very good as was the iced coffee. The woman there was very friendly and offered a few samples of the focaccia bread, which were delicious. Laid back atmosphere.

Unfortunately, we decided to get the gelato ice cream. The second we walked in to your business it was like a oven at least 85 degrees, when we got the gelato it started to melt right away and your “cups” are WAY to small. I spent $7 on it for the dude to put it in a 2 ounce cup and gives us 8 ounces of gelato. It was melting onto my hands and I was eating it as fast as I can. My friend got a chocolate flavor and it was melting so much that it went onto her very nice outfit. The manger should try his products, this is a very simple fix. ****Make your gelato cups bigger!!***

I arrived at Il Gelato last night after putting some hours in at Blackies. My turn came up to order some pizza, however the worker just stood there, staring blankly at me. I am guessing he saw my Make America Great Again hat and it made him uncomfortable to serve someone who might have a different view on things than himself. Thankfully, this is America, and there was a donut shop a couple doors down that had no problem serving me (smart business, serve anyone who has money). So, Il Gelato, I am truly, from the bottom of my heart, sorry for micro-aggressing your safe space. It has been noted.

We love visiting Balboa beach every year when we’re in town because it’s calmer and feels more “local” to me. Eating at this restaurant and then getting gelato has become a tradition for the last 3 years. Our vacation simply wouldn’t be complete without stopping here! The porchetta is PHENOMENAL but is only served Saturday and Sunday. I also really enjoy the prosciutto pizza with Arugula. It’s perfect beach food. Then you HAVE to get the gelato. I haven’t had gelato this good since I was in Europe. I like Mint Chocolate and Pink Grapefruit, and lemon sorbet, but they’re all so good. The owner is the best and treats us like family, giving us free samples and even giving my daughter free gelato (since we come every year). I highly recommend this place, it will make your beach experience even better.
