This was my first visit to Sterling Optical in Newburgh. I accompanied my sister who is disabled. This location is very nice, spotlessly clean, and welcoming. Janelle greeted us so warmly! She patiently explained the choices that were available to my sister based on her type of insurance. I was impressed by how thorough Janelle was with the information she provided. This significantly aided my sister in making her selection.Janelle was very professional thoroughout this visit and answered all of our questions. The enitre experience was a pleasure due to her excellent customer service skills and knowledge. We will definitely return in the future.Thank you!
First trip to the new location with new doctor. Was expecting the worst. I was so wrong. Dr M was the nicest most common sense person. Taught me something I always wondered even at 55. Explained more than any eye doctor I ever remember. Great family stories too. Then Janelle! This woman is the best. Honest, straightforward, and funny as heck. All employees working so hard being short handed. Best customer service experience since we starting using this office in 2013.
Janelle G. and her co-workers at Sterling Optical in Newburgh were absolutely fabulous!!! My husband Tom and I went in today for some long overdue exams. Not only was the exam comprehensive and complete, the customer service Janelle gave was top-notch! She explained all our options for lenses and the difference between the options. (Which is something other providers in the past didn’t do very well!) We feel that we got the best glasses to serve our needs and amazing service to boot! This was my first time going to Sterling Optical and I had a really nice experience. Janelle has incredible customer service skills, she was upbeat, and attentive. She was very kind and honestly answered all of my questions regarding frames and lenses. She also patiently helped me look for another pair of frames when the ones I had originally picked out wouldn’t work out because of my prescription. It’s maybe a half an hour drive from where I live to go to this office but if Janelle’s going to be the one helping me out then it’s definitely worth it for me.

SHE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE INSURANCE PLANS AND WAS VERY CLEAR IN EXPLAINING WHAT STERLING OPTICAL COULD OFFER. THE ONLY REASON THE STORE RECEIVED A 4 INSTEAD OF 5 STARS IS BECAUSE THEIR SELECTION OF FRAMES ARE VERY PRICEY. ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE OTHER COMPANIES THAT SELL MOST OF THEIR FRAMES FOR HALF THE PRICE.
My experience with Sterling Optical was excellent. I would highly recommend them to my family and friends. The staff have always been courteous and understanding and have provided guidance in selecting the best frames for the type of lens that I require. Me and my mom went on a whim to sterling optical to get my mom a long overdue eye exam, Janelle G right upon entry was so attentive to us and helped us out so much, she truly was the best and look forward to bringing the rest of the family down for their eye exams!
I was seen at Sterling Optical on March 19th. Janelle was the eye care specialist who helped me she was so nice an helpful an took her time. She answered all my questions, very patient. I would definitely recommend this location for all your eye care needs.
I met with Janelle, to offer a competitive price for progressive glasses, for a prescription I got from somewhere else. Janelle was very courteous, helpful and clear with what charges there would be, along with different options to pay. She did not push the expensive frames. I felt very comfortable purchasing my glasses at the store, and will do so again when I need another!

There is a certain worker there named Janelle who helped me with new frames back in June of 2019. I went in today with my mom who needed an exam and new glasses and I needed another new frame. Janelle was very helpful and very knowledgeable.she recommended a completely different frame for me that worked with my prescription as the other one they didnt make the exact color anymore and there were issues with it in the past.
Janelle was polite and helpful, Dr Mangatt was very patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. I felt very well taken care of.
So Im a type of person that I dont write reviews, but I had an amazing experience at Sterling Optical new location. Janelle is the best! She was very patient and helpful! She help me picked out a pair of glass. She even picked out a few for me to try on. Im like literally blind. So I cant see myself. She gave me her honest opinion about the frames on me! I have worked with Janelle a few times, for myself, my son and my husband, and she’s always so nice and outgoing. She is extremely personable and knowledgeable and makes it such a smooth and enjoyable experience, without making us feel rushed. I highly recommend!
I went in for an eye exam without an appointment. As soon as I walked in I was pleasantly greeted by Janelle. The doctor saw me before I could finish picking out my glasses. (Expedited service) Dr. Mangatt was very kind and informative. He took. a detailed history. Janelle was spot on with the glasses she picked out for me. Saleesha & Janelle were wonderful to deal with. Their phone skills were professional, friendly & accommodating when I called. We had previously worked with Lauren for the past several years but she was on leave. They both demonstrated excellent customer service, were covid-19 conscious in their care and went out of their way to provide a safe environment for me who is high risk due to my medical diagnoses.Cant say enough about both if them! They certainly are both assets to the company.The new site is much larger, and provides are more fluid design for those coming in for optical exam & care. Many thanks!
Very overpriced.... even with a so called discount. The Dr. was great. Very thorough although he did not dilate my eyes for glaucoma test. The customer service at pick up was very nonchalant. Asked for a hard case after spending over $500.00 on glasses and was told no because I didn’t purchase my frames there. WTH??? I spent $525 on lenses and you couldn’t part with a hard case. Really not good business sense. The lady that helped me when I came for my initial visit was very pleasant but had her nose out of her mask. Not so sure I would return.
Do not think just because you have a confirmation of your appointment that they will even be at the office! Oh call them you say. When you call and are standing outside the door and the voicemail tells you they are open! Good luck trying to leave a message. YOU CANT ! Oh respond to the email confirmation. YOU CANT !Just one more company that does not give two $@&?s
My daughter was visiting for the weekend and didn’t bring enough contacts. Janelle was nice enough to find her script in the system and give me a sample pack for her. The new office is beautiful.
I was very pleased with my walk in visit. My insurance was giving me an issue, and the desk worker helped me for over an hour to resolve it so I may receive an eye exam that day. The eye doctor was the best, most thorough, and personable that Ive worked with. Theyre prices are very competitive. I will be coming back.

Doc was above average, exam went well and fast. Milly was a fantastic optician very warm, welcoming, knowledgeable about the field, especially knowing which good lenses and frames are most suitable. And she was just fun to be around. I enjoyed her company picking out frames. She clearly has a very good aura. I will definitely recommend this place to family and friends.
Poor customer service. I called ahead explained my needs they never asked me about insurance info. I get there spend 25 mins waiting while Maria took care of another customer. Then when i asked for a copy of my script they said they couldnt help me. When i asked can they see my daufhter for an exam they said shes too young without asking me her age. They assumed she was 6yrs old. Finally when i told them im taking my business elsewhere they talked badly about me as i walked out. Very unprofessional...
I have been coming here for almost 10 years. The doctor takes his time and answers all my questions. Scheduling is always accommodating. Staff is always pleasant and smiling when I come in. Matthew has always been my personal eye care professional and never steered me wrong when picking out the best frames that fit my face. I personally respect honesty and that’s what I get. I now bring my children here. Hands down best one on one service you can get!
Im not sure how there can be so many bad reviews....we had a perfect experience here! I guess people are more vocal when they are unhappy. We hosted a child from Central America this summer who was having vision issues and headaches, and the team at Sterling Optical volunteered to give her a full eye exam and glasses! The physician was kind, compassionate and thorough, and Matt was as friendly and helpful as anyone in business could be. They went above and beyond to help, and we are customers for life!
Terrible communication
This is the first time I visited Sterling OpticalIn Newburgh New York. When I went in, there were social distancing signage. People were respectful. The place is clean and new.The first Service person I encountered was Janelle. She was amazing. She knows her craft and took care of me. I could not have a better and kinder person to deal with. Highly recommend Janelle!!I also had an appointment with the Optometrist (Donne Mangatt.) He too took time to determine what was annoying regarding my eyes. Sterling Optical in Newburgh NY is a class act.
I walked in expecting not to be seen, however to my surprise they were able to get me seen immediately. The doctor was wonderful, seriously the best, he was genuinely caring. So soft spoken and talked to me like I was a human being. The person who helped me pick out my frames was a wonderful patient associate. I probably went through about 30 airs of frames before selecting the one that was perfect. The entire visit was fabulous. The only reason I didnt rate 5 stars is because they never called me to tell me my glasses were ready for pickup. I called them the evening that my glasses were promised, was told that they were not there, and that I would probably receive a phone call the next day. To me that sounded like my order was there, just not completed. I called 5 days later and was told yep my glasses are there and waiting to be picked up. Just a bit disappointed at that.
One word, Perfect. Extremely professional and helpful staff, great service, got in and out in about half hour and on top of that no appointment is needed. But mostly it was down to Dr. Andy who is such a great person so thank you for making the whole process quick and hassle-free.

I have been waiting for my glasses for over three weeks now. No one ever called to tell me they were on back order. So Ive been without glasses for weeks now. I could have easily taken my prescription else where and ordered glasses. Customer service was horrible, no communication with customers.

Ive been coming here almost my whole life. I have been to other places and I have to say that Dr. Freilich is by far the best eye doctor Ive seen. He is very friendly, takes the time to explain everything, and I dont feel uncomfortable or rushed when in the exam room. Ive never had any issues with the other staff but the place does get very busy and they cant always give undivided attention. The reason Im giving four stars instead of five is that they are EXPENSIVE. They have a small but nice selection of designer frames that I try on, but then buy online later for a fraction of the price (almost always around $100 rather than the $300-$500+ at SO). Just wont get the warranty that way. At another $250-300 for lenses, Id be sure to take care of them and, hopefully, never need the warranty anyway. Recently, after shopping around I found that other places charge far less for thinner high-index lenses and Ill now be purchasing them elsewhere as well. I will keep getting my exams here because Ive only ever had good experiences with this optician and my lense prescription is always perfect. But I wish they would make their products more affordable so I didnt have to go through the hassle of buying from other places to save money.
Been coming here for years never had a problem until today. I needed a eye exam and I was told my insurance only covers every 2 years. And that I would have to pay $75 dollars. So I decided to leave and call a different eye doctor. Who was extremely helpful and explained to me when she pulled up my insurance that I am able to get a eye exam at no cost because my insurance would cover it. So I called back Sterling Optical and Spoke to the lady and explained to her that I called another eye doctor and they contacted my insurance and verified i was Able to get another eye exam at no cost. The response I received back was. Your just going to be billed and the lady asked if the other eye doctor spoke with the insurance I told her yes they did and she said your insurance is closed so that’s False information. So I called my insurance company personally and they told me I am allowed to get another eye exam because it’s Medicaly Necessary. Sterling optical didn’t want to here that. And I was told I can’t go there unless I pay. And I was told to call a optician instead and they hung up on me. I have several family members and friends that use sterling opticals and they are turning away from them. Unprofessional customer service is rude.
Its too bad the customer service sucks here because Frelich is an awesome doctor! However everyone else is the worst! The man that helps customers is so rude its disgusting, as well as the lady who takes care of the insurance. It is all just disgusting. They need some training asap! I left this place and got a new doctor.
Exam was expensive. Contacts were expensive. had to order my contacts. Okay, I was expecting that, but when I asked how long until I should expect to receive them I was told 3 business days. Im now on day 4 and when I called them to get an update, I was told, no it takes 5-7 days to come in. Ive never had to wait 7 business days to get my contacts in. They over charge and lie to their customers!
Went today to return a pair of glasses that were incorrectly prescribed and are totally useless. When we originally found out that they werent correct and unusable Matt at Sterling told us we could bring them back and he would note our file. Today we were told that they dont allow returns for any reason. When we pointed out that th here was no sign stating that he said he got it in a memo from one of his bosses. When I asked him who his boss was he wouldnt tell me.Big mistake dealing with Sterling Optical. We trusted them to provide competent prescriptions and they just didnt make it right.
They never checked what my insurance covered, made up a number and told me it was valid. Only to call my insurance and find out it was completely incorrect and they way way over charged me.
I continue to go to my regular Dr. In the city, but decided to go here because I purchased my sons glasses from here. I love the selection of frames but customer service is truely lacking.Will not be returning.
Horrible!!Went to get contacts for the first time, the stuff seem clueless and the Dr. Didnt even help me in understanding how I supposed to use them, care for them, absolutely nothing. And when I asked, he spoke to the lady helping me with out addressing me even though I was standing right in front of him. So so so rude! Never again..
Twice this month I’ve gone in there to look. People make eye contact with you abs never open their mouths. There’s no welcome, no “may I help you,” nothing. It’s crowded and impersonal. I’d never buy from them.

Went there and spent $700 on glasses. When they finally came in Matt just handed them to me and said dont drive home with them on. I walked around for 2 weeks with a severe headache because he NEVER FITTED THEM TO ME THAT DAY!Ive had nothing but problems with these expensive glasses! Im still getting headaches wearing them! Matt is very rude! 1st of all you need to make sure you fit the glasses when your customer receives them! Im never going back to buy from here again. also i was not shown what glasses my insurance covered
Did not have a pleasant experience at sterling optical. Customer service is not great and staff is so rude. I had an appointment and over heard staff talking about me and my issues I discussed with the doctor during the visit. At another visit a staff woman was helping me and while on the phone trying to work out my insurance, she was rude and belittling my situation to the person on the other end of the phone. Needless to say, I left the practice because of this. Frelich is a friendly and good doctor but other staff members... No way! Never going back. Stay away
UPDATED 5/18/2019. I went there today cuz I like to wear color contact lenses but my prescription expired. I asked to see the dr. (Hes great). I wasnt sure if i was eligible to be seen. Handed over my card and they said no i wasnt eligible. Since I read another review saying, he got turned away, then HE called his insurance company and they said he was. The same thing just happened to me today!!! And Matt..who should be fired but is STILL there being rude gave me some dumb excuse about magically its covered. Then he said im not going to argue with you. Needless to say I let him have it in front of a store full of customers. I was so tired of this guy. I just couldnt take it anymore. Got my colored contacts and left. I must like punishing myself cuz I keep going there. Terrible place.2/2018. SHOCKER I RECEIVED THE WRONG FRAMES AFTER WAITING OVER 2 WEEKS.Ive gone there before and always had a bad experience. The staff is pushy and constantly trying to get you to purchase more. They are expensive. Then they turn around and say well I can give them to you for this price. Im like if the prices can be fiddled with, then why not just charge me that? I will say on my last visit, I had a really nice older woman. The blonde is rude. The Spanish lady is rude. The tall guy always with a scowl on his face is EXTREMELY RUDE. I think his name is Matt. Rude! Hes the worst one. Bottom line is that if you can go somewhere else...GO.
Walk in and stood at counter for about six minutes. I could see the staff was busy but a, someone will be with you soon, would have been the right thing to do. Instead when the blonde finish on the phone she started helping the gentleman who came after me. I advised her that I was next she said ok and made no attend to help me. I walk out with my two daughters who there for glasses. Never going back.

I went to get an eye exam and glasses.. It was busy and waited almost 2 hours because I didnt have an appointment.. But walkins are welcome! Hmmmmm...which means they take every appt before they take walkins...anyway I explained that I didnt want the same contacts as I had before because I didnt benefit from them...so they ordered my contacts and I went to pick them up...they ordered exactly what I had before...so the sales person asked the dr...who seemed like he was in a hurry to go, what should she order.. So he rattled off a prescription...they werent the correct powers....so he rattled off something else! Really??? How do you play with someones vision like that? If there was a problem, put your coat down and take care of it..instead he said I could come back the next day..which I live 45 minutes away! I have been going there for a long time and not liking the way I was treated! Dont think I will be going back after 30 plus years! Disappointed and disgusted!

I had an eye exam done on Monday and ordered my glasses, and was told they would be in by Thursday or Friday. It is now Tuesday of the next week and my glasses are still not done.
