This is cool spot, I honestly never Knew was here in the City of Newark for quite some time. The location is a tiny space but fills up with so many customers. If you are looking for a nice safe place away from the Hustle & Bustle of Newarks Downtown Life & want some real good coffee or tea. Definitely got to try paying a visit to the Black Swan, the place smells great walking in and the vibes are chill. Employees are cool, respectful and know how to throw down. Such yumminess with muffins, oatmeal, cheddar scones, good Salads and flavor packed sandwiches.
I’ve come in for a flat white to go twice now and each time on a Saturday as that’s my me time. The temperature for me is always right. I can drink it right away without having to allow it to cool. The wait is not long and they seem to have a great rapport with their regulars who wish to talk. Starbucks is just a few yards ahead of them but I’m happy to come in and buy my morning flat white from them. Support small businesses folks.
As a black owned business your standards should be very high. I would suggest If you guys hire a more professional staff, unlike the guy with dreads. He had me waiting hours for a water and then came over to me and said we are out of them and didn’t even care. I witness on how he treats certain crowds. You shouldn’t discriminate towards your own people because we are the ones that will support you without a doubt. As black people we have to do better.
Wow!! Just WOW! Quite possibly the best cortado Ive ever had, and I frequent all the best bespoke espresso shops in Manhattan (not to mention the year that my wife and I lived in Seattle, partaking of their finest). The espresso draw was perfection. Not a trace of acidity, just pure and just right. And the temperature -- also just right. The baristas attention to detail: outstanding!!
Perfect latte. And it was the first Ive had in months, so this really delivered in flavor. Thanks so much. Cute little spot with outdoor seating. And theyre on the best street in Newark...Halsey.
The coffee is good. But they should update their hours. I got there at 842am on a Friday, and they werent even open....even though it says theyre open at 8am. So I had to downgrade to Starbucks 😔
I came here for coffee and a personal size pie I asked them for the @sweetmosspie it is absolutely delicious okay let me tell you what it is. Its a sea moss bean pie that is get this 100% vegan and really really a good eat. They didnt have it but if we all ask Im sure they will carry it so we can all try it there or wherever we can find it.
I always end up here at least once a week for an afternoon pick-me-up and they never disappoint!
This is a cute little coffee shop right on Halsey St. The people that work here are very friendly and make you feel at home. I tried to hibiscus donut and it tastes as good as it looks. They have free wifi and you can sit around and get some work done while sipping on your coffee and nibbling on their sweet treats. Give them a try!
Love this establishment and it’s staff
Visited about four, it was not full. I look forward to a return trip. Feels similar to a restaurant in Philadelphia that I enjoyed visiting.
One of the best spots in the area. Will surely make a return trip. It has a cool interior.
Great matcha AND espresso. The people are out of this world exceptional! Everyone is always kind, helpful, friendly and welcoming. You want this place in your caffeine starting lineup!
Delicious espresso.
1) Only an outdoor menu.2) Was solicited for a tip3) Exceptionally slow service4) Askee for a lid when my drink was done because I was running late to my appointment (due to the slow service) and I was told “I’m going to put the lid on when I’m done with this one5) Was late to my appointment. Wasn’t worth the tip I was solicited for.Worse service ever.
A quiet place to enjoy a cup of coffee and to relax.
They have different business hours due to COVID-19, so I wasnt able to get the entire experience. But....the coffee was fantastic!Youre welcome; and you will absolutely see me again.
On Monday morning, there was one employee by herself with a constant line. She was taking orders and making all the drinks. I felt bad for her because she was managing all of it on her own. But she did a great job and was very apologetic for the wait and did her best to get all of the orders out in a timely fashion.
We visited during a food tour. Steve and Laura were great! They showed us how you make the pictures on top of a latte. It was a great experience, and the prices are reasonable. I ordered a Cold Brew and it was delicious!
Love coming to this coffee shop, its so quant and lively. Are you all Black Owned?
Wonderful little coffee shop in downtown Newark using Intelligentsia beans. It is by far the best place in Newark I have found for coffee. The shop is on the tinier side, but still room for several tables. The staff was friendly and happy to offer their opinion on what coffee I should have for my pour over. They also have doughnuts which looked amazing... just another reason Ill have to go back!
Great Cortados and Chai Lattes! Great staff!
The baristas are always super friendly and helpful when recommending something new. The donuts and bagels here are also delicious!
I live downtown Newark and tried this place yesterday for first time. When I initially ordered the barista said “THAT IS $5”, and I said ok.... lmao. Then she proceeds to make the coffee stiff faced and UPPITY!!While coffee was good, I would never go back. Black owned 😢
Very small but it’s nice. I thought there would be sandwiches or food that w be order but I was wrong. I did manage to get a peach tea and it was really good.
Cool modern place, great bohemian vibe. Their coffee is nice and strong. A little pricey.
Cool coffee place with a very nice alternative urban vibe. My latte with almond milk was the best latte Ive ever had... Definitely heading back to this sexy spot
I had a decaf cappuccino with oat milk and a Dough chocolate donut and it was Dee-lish! The staff is really friendly, place is super clean and a great vibe. I will be back!
Perfect espresso drinks, they make cappuccino the right way! Their bagels are excellent too. Room for improvement: get a better speaker system that doesn’t use Bluetooth!
I love coming to black swan for my cappuccino on the way to class. Great people and feels great supporting local businesses. Wish they had a larger size for cappuccino.
Its not easy to get a good coffee in Newark so Black Swan stands out for being pretty good. The latte was good, though not outstanding which made the high price hard to swallow. When prices are higher than Starbucks, the coffee better be better too, and Black Swan just wasnt.
Really delicious coffee. Doughnuts are from Brooklyn and voted best in the nation. Baristas very skilled. This place is high quality. And super friendly service. Highly recommend!
I ordered a late which was made very well. Espresso tasted very rich and strong. Prices were fair for an independent shop downtown. Service was very courteous and quick at a busy time of day.
Love this darling shop. The coffee is high quality. The mom-and-son team provise a warm atmosphere. Excellent service and the only place in the city with decent donuts and croissants. The secret --- a NY bakery brings pastries every morning. The only draw back is no bathro9m so long stays are difficult unless your bladder is made of steel.
Its an okay coffee shop and has a cozy feel not too much seating inside but they do have outdoor and its only a block away from military park so that makes up for the lack of inside seating. I ordered a cold brew coffee and a peanut butter cookie the cold brew coffee black and wasnt overpowering like you get at starbucks. Peanut butter cookie on the other hand was a bit dry and tasteless to me I probably wont order that again. Staff was friendly and the service was quick in closing I probably would come here again if Im in the area
Artisan coffee coupled with great service. Definitely a new favourite
This place is the only good place to get a proper cup of coffee. Weather it be espresso based, drip, or pour over. They also get their baked goods from belthazar and Dough, both of which are fantastic. They get their been from inteligensia and propeller, the latter being pretty hard to find. Weather you need a quick fix or are going in to get fresh been this place is for you.
Small but thats the wrong term. I would say it is an intimate setting with a small menu of all things they specialize in. Their hot drinks are made perfectly bwith the knowledge of making the drinks as an art and a science. Its definitely a nice place to go individually or with one person especially on a Sunday morning.
Fantastic find. No offense to Newark, but I wasnt expecting much...but this blew me away. I got a cortado, which was the perfect temperature and perfectly balanced, as well as a nitro cold brew, which was one of the smoothest and creamiest (without cream) cold brews Ive ever had. Yes, they use Intelligentsia beans (which are excellent but widely available), but the baristas know what theyre doing and it shows, and this is one of the best expressions of Intelligentsia Ive ever had (including from Intelligentsias own shops in Chicago). Highly recommended and on par with the top options available across the river--maybe even a sliver above. Definitely worth the walk from Newark Penn Station!
I love this place. Their coffee is great, barista is always on point. Their doughnuts are amazing! Highly recommend it.
The loc is perfect. Servers are very friendly. Their poppy seed doughnut. But the coffee is not strong. I ordered an espresso, and it was good. It was a good experience.
Great Coffee! I’m from Melbourne Australia and was desperately trying to find good coffee in Newark... this place is perfect! 😊
Cute place. Great coffee. Wonderful outdoor seating. And open on the weekend!
Very chic space for a little coffee shop! Love the vibes there and everyone was super friendly.
Had a good croissant here. Very nice atmosphere. Good for a meeting or interview.
We were desperate for a good cappuccino and we were in luck yesterday. Black Swan Espresso was just across the road from were we had breakfast and diner for the healthy food seeker(lots of greens, smoothies, juices and organics) great find, during our 3.5 days conference at the Prudential Center. OK! back to Black Swan Espresso, Igor and Laura are such coffee connoisseur/Barista, best cappuccino in a long time. I personally highly recommend going to the Black Swan Espresso for a great cup of Java and by the way I tried for the first time as a milk alternative, they also had oat milk, this is by far my favorite milk in my cappuccino, you got to try it. Its too bad we live 8 hrs way. Hope to the opportunity to visit The Black Swan one day again. : ) Celine
Great place. Good coffee, good bagel, cool vibe and friendly staff. What else can you ask for.
Cutest little coffee shop in Newark with delicious chai lattes.
Love the Ruby Slipper Ice Tea. Fresh pastries delicious. Try coffee and cappuccino. Friendly and courteous staff.
Nice chill spot while enjoying their dulce de leche donut, perfectly paired with their cappuccino. Worth a try.
Really delicious coffee. Doughnuts imported from Brooklyn and voted best in the nation. Baristas very skilled. This place is quality. And super friendly service.
Excellent coffee! One of the best around the area. Ill always drop by when Im in Newark.
Staff is so friendly and the coffee is so good! Love getting a mocha, and love the cute latte art.
What a precious little place for a perfect coffee break. We need places like this.
Great coffee!Delicious lemon ginger muffin.Nice people
Im into coffee, and I can wholeheartedly promote this place. Im in Bayonne, and I drive to Newark just to have lattes from here. Have your coffee to stay in a mug for a greater experience.
Nice cozy place, they have a very nice collection of drinks, the yellow tea is fantastic. Highly recommended!
I love the idea. The coffee is good. But man, the staff are terrible. There’s no organization and the customers are constantly standing around confused. It’s unfortunate.
Nice place to hang out!
Go for the jasmine oat milk tea, stay because Adam and the team are so friendly!
The coffee nis outstanding, the barristas are too good looking and nice..small, special, great vibe..they are holding it down on Halsey st in Newark...up against stiff competition by Starbucks a block away but this is local people... support Newark small business...and the coffee is good for your soul
Oat hot chocolate, warm croissants, cool music, ace customer service, need I go on?!
This establishment is great! Best coffee in town. The staff and service is on point. I passed this place a million times when they first opened but recently started patronizing about a month ago. Support local businesses!
Great espresso drinks made here. Its very small, but usually busy.
Been here many times, never disappointed. Best cold brew in town.
Reasonable prices, fantastic atmosphere .. they have very friendly service . And a great freakin cup of espresso
Finally a place with equisite teas for the avid tea drinker. The Baristas are kind and inviting. Good vibes for sure.
Great coffee shop with a wonderful staff. They brew excellent tea!
Wonderful coffee! Great choices and very friendly and knowledgeable baristas!
Great espresso. Great little ambiance.
1.Great coffee 2.Great knowledge of coffee and preparation techniques 3. Fantastic staff always welcoming
Good local place for coffee with prices similar to nearby coffee chains Dunkin and Starbucks.
The coffee was so so but it was nice to sit outside.
Always tried something different here it’s really exciting love love
Great coffee. Friendly and knowledgeable staff
Good drinks but the place is a lot smaller in reality vs pictures
Coffee is great! They are always diligent on making sure the coffee is tasting great!
Really fantastic Vibe, welcoming baristas, and affordable gourmet coffee !
The best espresso you can get in Newark!
Excelente tea. The doughnuts are amazing
Best place to get espresso in UH. I love it here.
Love love the Capuccino at this location, so smooth and creamy flavor from the coffee. Very friendly staff
They make a nice latte. The girl burned my croissant and I had to pay more for something else.
