It’s one thing for your prices to be double of every other store in the area, but it’s worse then that. I had boughten a bottle from here a couple of times when I was desperate, being I live so close. One time I go in and I was purchasing the same handle of Vodka I always get and they decided to raise the price even more. After having a brief argument I begin to walk out the store as I’m out the door they agree to Lower the price to what it has always been and still is. They will try and up-charge you if they think they can. If there’s isn’t a price sticker on a bottle they look at it as an opportunity to see how much they can charge you.
I dont understand the negative reviews on here. The woman working was very pleasant, and since I was also looking for mixer, told me where the grocery store was. I was hesitant to carry dinner for my family, goodies from her store and then soda, without dropping something, so said I willl just grab a couple cans of soda from a street vendor. She insisted I go to the grocery store and I am so glad I did- it was adorable! I really appreciated that she wanted to make sure I knew all my options. People whining about the prices- they were at least half the price of the hotel mini bar and lounge so we considered it a great deal. Was it a few dollars more than my place back home in Milwaukee- yes. I guess I just expect that and dont see any issues. I highly recommend this Manhattan gem!!
Great wine selection and really nice sales. Asked for a Malbec and they suggested a top wine from Patagonia Argentina. I know wines and not only is it top rated it was priced well.
Prices were twice the price of what they should be. If that wasn’t rude enough they have “you break it you buy it signs all over.” I pulled a bottle off a shelf and it was so hard to put back I gave up. I made a comment about the shelves and was told to leave for being rude. I guess that’s a new pinnacle, being called rude by a New Yorker. They had good labels but way overpriced and rude. I would’ve liked to get something here but not at that price and level of. Customer service.
Ive been to this store a few times because its right on my walk home from work. Today I purchased a few bottles. I called the store 30 minutes later to tell them that an inexpensive bottle of red wine I had purchased was corked, and requested a store credit. The man on the phone rudely yelled and hung up on me. I wont be returning.
Half-way decent selection of vodkas...mostly a wine spot.. The staff couldnt be more unwelcoming, a simple hello or smile goes a long way.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING HERE. PLACE IS A SCAM, PRICES ARE 2X TIMES RETAIL (IF NOT MORE) AND OWNER IS UNHELPFUL AND RUDE. WALK ANYWHERE ELSE AND SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE. 0 STARS
Very humiliating. Very rude and condescending owner. Please find a better place.
It really cant be said enough -- the prices in this Times Square hole-in-the-wall hooch closet are simply unbelievable. You can literally walk six blocks and find the exact same stock for half the price. I have no idea how they continue to stay in operation -- I guess desperate tourists really will pay anything.
This is the worst liquor store in NYC. Everything is at least 10% overpriced. There are boxes and dirt all over this store. The cashier was extremely rude to me. The man cursed at me for not putting a wine bottle back. Although, I ended up purchasing the wine he continued to curse at me. Also, they did not check ID. Go to Oak and Steel or 58 Wine and Liquor around the corner.
$50 for Tito’s where the same size is $26 elsewhere. I get they have to pay rent and it’s a prime location, but there are other places nearby.I wish I had picked a place closer to the party as this on the way spot wasn’t a good choice.Learn from my mistakes.
Cramped store with no room to walk, was offered no help, and god awful prices. If I could give this store zero stars, I would. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Rude guy behind counter and $50bfor a bottle of Absolute. No thanks
Crazy chinese sales guy do not know how to operate the Google pay.
ONLY GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE DISRESPECTED!! THERE IS A BETTER LIQUOR STORE ON 58th bw 7th and 6th AVES!!! Never have I ever experienced such disrespect and frankly racism from anyone. This store publicizes that they close at 10pm. I walk in to make a quick purchase of HIGHLY overpriced tequila for a friends birthday at 9:58pm. Within 30 seconds the clerk tells me the store is closing and to make a selection. I say, okay. Approximately 45 seconds later he tells me again to make a selection. At this point I am feeling rushed and Im having trouble locating the prices. I kindly tell him that Im definitely going to pay and I need a moment to look. He insists that I hurry because it is 10pm and he has a train to catch right now. What kind of sense does that make?? Why would you close a store at the same time you have to catch a train? As I am approaching the counter, hes telling me that people have to work. And Im literally trying to pay at this point. I tell him to stop speaking to me that way and he concludes to say, Dont pay! All I have to say is, if a white woman walked in there at 9:58pm she would have walked out with an overpriced bottle of tequila for #NationalTequilaDay at 10:15pm if she wanted to. But I am a black woman and walked out empty handed. Never ever go to this place. There is one on 58th bw 7th and 6th Aves and they are very nice and they stay open until 11pm!!
Good selection of wines and whiskeys but really overpriced. For example, regular Chandon was $77 instead of 45 - 50. Walk 15 more minutes to another store and save 20 - 40%
These guys should be run out of business for price gouging by the NYC Better Business Bureau. They prey on unsuspecting visitors who naively expect to purchase wines at competitive market prices. Caveat Emptor.
Dont bother with this clip joint. Two blocks in any direction you find stores with regular fair prices.
Mark-up city! Typical $45 bottle of scotch (In Illinois) was selling for $129. Bought it a block away for $69.
Great selection of best quality wines, Cognac, and everything else....
Way overpriced. At least 25% over 58th st wine & liquor which is only a block away.
Highly overpriced even for Manhattan, unfriendly service and no prices on half the bottles! Miserably cramped. Survives only because tourists arent repeat customers anyway. There are better wine stores just a few blocks north, Eg 57th and Bway and 58th and sixth that cater to regular customers.
The worst customer service you could ever get. Dont waste your time on this place.
Dont go to Carnegie. You will be disappointed at how much you found out you payed. Based on this page, others had the same problem over two years ago. They havent improved.
Worst liquor shop in whole of New York. Rude asian looking owners, one young, one old. The manager also talked rudely to the other stockboy while I was there. The stockboy probably was illegally working there, as no one legally working would hear such words from a person. WORST LIQUOR SHOP... ONLY GO TO BE RIPPED OFF.
Horrible experience. After I purchased my bottle of vodka the bottle literally broke right in my hand while walking out the door. I wasnt going to ask for a full refund but was expecting a discount for another bottle since a 750 ml bottle of vodka cost me around $39. Got yelled at by two different employees and was told to get the hell out.
Owner is rude (the oldman). Price is way too high from the City prices compared.
Very helpful and LARGE selection.
Extremely overpriced. 20 dollars for Pinot project!
Over priced. Small selection. Poor service.
They swindle you! Ridiculously rude and tried multiple times to overcharge dramatically!
Didn’t like the staff. Not friendly or helpful.
Don’t go here. Walk the couple extra blocks to somewhere else. Terrible selection & the guy behind the counter is even worse.
Dreadful. I was put off by the rude and impatient staff. So I left. And then I found out that the same bottle of Barbancourt rum I was looking at was almost $30 cheaper around the corner.
This place charges 10x for what are basically supermarket wines. Avoid!!!
FOR MY ALL OCCASION FAVORITES.
They suck. end of review lol.
This place sucks, they pull prices out of no where. Go here if you want to get ripped off!
Get ready the Manhattan upcharge
Horrible experience...ridiculous prices and unscrupulous owner...DONT go here!
Way over priced and cramped as hell
Wow, insane prices. Double what they should be. Almost criminal.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Never been!
Ridiculous prices
Enormous ripoff
