The BEST liquor store in all of NYC. they do not stock typical brands - usually just small batch items. the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. pricing is very fair. i FELL in love with Mezcal because of them - so much so that i ordered a full case of my favorite bottle! absolutely great store !

Simply the Best wine and spirits store that I have EVER been to! The inventory is full of difficult to find items, in addition to a huge selection of the more commonly requested wines and spirits. The employees are preeminent in their knowledge of the products that they sell, and their prices are very reasonable.I live on the upper west side of Manhattan, and you can be sure that I will be making frequent excursions to the upper east side, in order to visit Ambassador Wines and Spirits.

This place is absolutely amazing.Between the most helpful and enthusiastic staff Ive ever experienced to the mind blowing collection, this is definitely the best liquor store Ive ever been to. They also often have tastings!There are walk in coolers for ciders and sake, walls of scotch, bourbon, and whiskeysAnd so much wine from all over the world.There is an entire cellar for wines from Bordeaux.I spent an hour here just walking around.

Fantastic selection. In particular, independent bottlers of single malt scotch. Only downside is that inventory is not posted online.

We visited NYC in November 2018 and visited this shop on our last day to buy whisky. We had a wonderful experience which we still talk about, guided by the gentleman working in the shop towards a local whisky and excellent bourbon within our price range. No upselling, and in fact warned us off overspending on bourbon. Looking forward to our next visit.

I fell in love with this shop from the moment I stepped foot in it. It’s so exciting to walk into a wine shop where you don’t recognize 80% of their wine selection. Offerings from many countries including these Hungarian gems below! Extensive Sake and Bourbon options. Don’t come here for JW Black Label. Come here for enlightenment. Ask for recommendations, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

This wine shop is the best! They have imported and local wines that you can buy for a very affordable price. For me, this is the best place to hang out with friends or maybe loved ones. They also offered some flavored chips and nuts. It was a very cozy and quiet place. I highly recommend this wine shop to everyone.

This store has a great selection. We could have spent hours just looking at everything.The staff was very welcoming. We were looking for a white wine recommendation and they gave us multiple suggestions at various price points. I love the wine from this shop. It was so tasty and has a good aroma. I can really say that their wines were very fermented. It really got my tastebuds. Aside from wine, they had also liquors and beers that you could try as well. This place is really great to chill and to grab some glass of wine. This wine shop is my go-to place from now on. The worlds best liquor store. No exaggeration. Everyone who works here is an expert in booze and food. Lenny, the owner, is a great guy. I like to come to the store everyday, not to get booze, but to talk to the great people who work there. Other than that, they have the best selection of any liquor store and they taste everything they sell, so nothing ordinary in stock!

Cant praise this place enough. Decent prices with friendly service and excellent knowledge - Andre is your guy for everything from highbrow to lowbrow - helped put together a fancy wine tasting and sent me home with a good mixing whisky to boot. I come here every month to stock up and find something new. The place is a godsend for those who love alcohol.

Im not a wine guy so I cant speak to their quality there but if its anything like their curated selection of higher end bourbon Im guessing that its amazing.Prices are more than reasonable for midtown Manhattan.

2 floors. Great selection w a massive bourbon and sake section. First class staff and prices are some of the best in NYC, esp considering the location and their helpfulness. A one of a kind shop - walking around is an experience in of itself. excited to have discovered this shop and Ill gladly be making the mile trek, passing numerous stores along the way.

This place surprises me EVERY time! You dont leave the store just with a bottle, you receive suggestions of dishes to match it with, cocktail recipes, a joke, and a huge smile. I would travel from anywhere in Manhattan to have this personal shopping experience. BTW their wine selection is excellent - and you can impress anyone with what you buy there.

Super helpful and friendly. The cider and sake rooms are awesome. Prices are reasonable considering the area and they carry the $30 bottles of high proof booze I like.

Just came from the store. Pretty awesome! One of the owners (at least I think she was) greeted me very well and showed me around their scotch and bourbon selection. They mainly work with rares, not big brands (they didnt have John Walker Gold Label for example). I think prices could be just a tiny bit lower, but for the area they are in I guess its alright. Well deserved 5 stars!

They were out of the Brooklyn Kura sake we were after but they were still super helpful.

The staff here is excellent. Theyre friendly and extremely knowledgeable. If they dont have something specific they will give you a very good recommendation, which had never let me down. I showed them a picture of a wine my girlfriend liked and they recommended me something similar for $14.00. I appreciate them not trying to upsell me which is why I come back. They have a great selection of EVERYTHING. I end up spending half an hour looking around even when I stop by to quickly grab a bottle of wine.

They have a vast selection of wine and liquor including Japanese sake and shochu. I always go there to buy my shochu. I like the newly added cider section, too. Its just fun to browse through the store. And the staff there is very knowledgeable.

Service was honestly amazing. They actually care about building relationships and developing a reputation with their customers. As soon as I walked in i felt their genuine service. It was further proved when I broke something on accident. Although I insisted that I was willing to pay for it they wouldnt let me. Will definitely continue coming here.

We needed like 5 mins to get an excellent recommendation for an Cabernet Sauvignon from California. He seemed so trustful that we instantly bought the vine for around 20$ (he asked which price range we have). It was delicious!

Very nice place! Go visit the cellar downstairs, its a very well maintained area with some old bottles. Had a St-Estephe 1985 and I can say it was properly handled and taken care for the years they had (bought from a private cellar). The staff is quite welcoming and will help you with anything you want. My only wish, as I told them, would be to store more vintage ports around the year. They seem to carre the old ones only around chtistmas, but those are really nice with sea food or perhaps, a cigar!

This may be the last great wine and spirits shop in Manhattan. Even though they could charge hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars more than MSRP, they NEVER do. During Pappy season, they do a raffle and the winners pay retail. In the most expensive city in the world, this is by far the most reasonable, the biggest selection, no playing favorites for customers...when they get allocated bourbons and scotches, they put them out on the shelf at MSRP. Can you name another liquor store in the city that raffles their Pappy Van Winkle and puts a case of Weller 12 on the shelf for 30 bucks a bottle??? I open just about every bottle I buy with these guys and smoke a cigar at the BYOB Cigar Lounge next door.5 stars, Lenny, Andrei, Doug, Jeff (Chris, you too holmes, even though you only work there once a week) - You are the gold standard of Wines and Spirits. I have a million pics of this place, more to come.

There are a handful of wine and spirit shops in NYC that have fully embraced Japanese shochu. Ambassador is one of them and one of the best. Their selection ranges over and entire aisle nearly directly in front of the entrance. The selections range from the ubiquitous iichiko mugi (barley) shochu to the esoteric - Toyonaga kome (rice) shochu and Satsuma Mura imo (sweet potato) shochu are some nice off-the-beaten path choices. With an estimated 30-40 brands available they rank toward the higher end of shochu selection in NYC, surpassing even Astor Wines in quantity. The staff may not be as knowledgeable about shochu as they are about their mesmerizing whiskey selection, but if you spend enough time reading the labels and chatting with the staff youre sure to come away with something interesting. I routinely leave with 2-3 bottles.And if shochu isnt your thing, go for the whiskey or the large sake selection, which is kept in a refrigerated room hidden back behind the shochu aisle. This is how I actually found them when a sake sommelier friend of mine recommended I visit. Im glad I did.

I was given a small sheet of paper at MTC kitchen when I asked where I could get decent sake in NYC. Ambassador was one of the 8 places listed (7 in NYC). Because I already knew about Sakaya I went there first. I love them. Then I went to Astor Wines and they had a decent selection and the first sake expert who I dealt with was extremely helpful. I went back there the other day and was treated like an annoyance by their in house sake expert that was clearly more interested in getting a date than assisting me. Having spent almost $800 on sake there for a party I thought perhaps I would be treated a little more courteously by the woman that had previously gone on about her sake and food pairing classes. Rude, and if they dont want my money Im not spending it there. Because Sakaya was closed I looked again at the paper and said I will walk over and see what you offered thinking how could it be much if I didnt know about it. It did say Dassai under your name though. Everyone was extremely nice, enthusiastic to see me and in seconds I was in this chilled sake room reeling with delight at the selection - you have sakes Ive never seen in New York City before - and how helpful and knowledgeable the staff was. Incredibly impressive grasp of the diversity and complexity of the sake world. I will be returning often, and I will be letting other friends and colleagues know the great selection and prices you offer. Thanks!
