I wasnt impressed. Ive been getting my hair braided by Africans for years and this is by far one of the nastiest shops Ive ever been in. I got a very simple braid style, two cornrows and I had to remind the braider before she started in my hair to wash her hands as she had just finished with another customer. I was in a hurry to get these braids and that was why I went there but, I wont be returning.

*****Review update*****Started braids on Mar 29thFinished Apr 14thThe 2-week lag in getting my braids completed was all me, I just couldnt get back over there due to other obligations. However, when I did schedule to return to finish the hair braiding process, prior to my arrival, I texted Aby and said on the way but upon my arrival Aby advised me that her sisters (hair braiders) were heading out for a wedding and she would appreciate if I came back the next day. She said she would do my hair if I refused to wait and return, but she was tired and they were leaving. So I returned Saturday and another lady finished my hair & replaced the 33 braids, yes 33 braids, that had come out within the past 2 weeks.I left knowing I would try another braider and pray for a better outcome.———————— (First Review) ——————So for the difficulty I had finding a microbraider, this place makes me happy. Aby and her team are active at handling the business at hand... HAIR BRAIDING. First there was Miriam and now theres Aby...Located in the lower 9th ward on St Claude Avenue, you can easily see the business from a passing vehicle, but dont go too fast, this area is growing by leaps and bounds. This hair braiding studio also doubles as a beauty supply house; I mean thats ingenious. The beauty supply store has the regular beauty supply items and a few other things. Some authentic looking African-wear caught my attention; unfortunately I didnt have time to peruse like I wanted to, Im always looking for new different finds.Ive seen several different styles that are popular in the hair game, and KUDOS to the team for keeping up with the trends. The hair game is pretty fast and ever changing and it seems like this place is up to par to keep their hat in the game. Bring your own hair or purchase some when you get there... whatever tickles your fancy. For me, I purchased my own hair because I plan to keep these braids in for a while; after 6 hours sitting in the chair, wouldnt you?The ladies are from various parts of Africa and in this space, they speak in their native tongue; sometimes its interesting to listen in and just imagine what theyre talking about; other times I just tune out. I mean 6 hours is plenty enough time to flip flop between both. The pricing is fair and in-line with the industry norm for the area.Fyi, a few braids have come out here and there, but I Abys gonna fix me up in a JIFFY!!!! WooooHooooo!!!!

Call the shop to inquire about straight back feed ins with about 3 knotless at my neckline for a fuller look. Of course the answer was yes they do and could I send a pic of what I were inquiring about. I text the pic and was called back within 30 minutes confirming 9am appt the next day. Later that evening I received a phone call asking me what type of braids/cornrows I wanted. Briefly stated I texted you the pic. Caller said I didnt get the pic and would I text again but to come for 930. Text the pic again and ask what would be my total. No response received. Not a good first impression.Arrived at the shop that morning at approximately 920. The front of the shop serves as a Beauty Supply store and you walk to the rear of the shop for hair services. When you enter you can tell its not a well kept business. As Im walking to the rear I see a woman sitting on a sofa eating. I inform her I was there for a 930 appt for straight back cornrows. She ask to see the pic. With a deep sigh and eye roll, I show her the pic. With food in her mouth she says okay what color hair you want? Yall I swear they make up prices. Nothing set in stone. My normal braid tech was not available and I needed this head done but I will never go back to this unprofessional shop. The braid tech stay more on her cell phone than she did braiding my hair. I know all about her green card status and how she may/will have to go back. I paid 60 dollars more than what I wouldve had I gone to my normal braid tech. The shop needs to be cleaned and organized. It just nasty in there and no one wears a mask but I kept mine on.

Disorganized. Bartering methods. Cash only payments. Cheap merchandise. Discriminatory towards POC born in America. Overpriced items. Customer service more for sales and not for quality. Unpleasant experience.
