Wow! Stopped in for a quick caffeine fix & left with what may be my next favorite spot! We ordered the Big Easy and Gin Basil Smash. Wildly impressed with their creative use of bitters & cocktail-esque menu, both of these drinks were genuinely delicious! Will definitely be back!
Five Watts has a great, quirky little space with tables and some high top benches. Their outdoor area in front seemed more spacious than some of the other shops around, which was nice to get an outdoor table, but remember that its still up against Nicollet Ave and that traffic noise.
Loved the coffee. The baristas seemed to know what they where doing.
Fun hipstery atmosphere with tasty coffee and strong decor. The baristas are exceptional as well
Easily my favorite coffee shop in the entire city. House made bitters, fresh ingredients, and locally roasted coffee beens makes this place unrivaled in the breadth and taste of their offerings. Quaint and laid back, youll be hard pressed to find a shop offering the quality and creativity of Five Watt. If you are hungry, be sure to pick up any of the bakery items made fresh by Patisserie 46. Simply a must for all coffee lovers.
This is an awesome little local coffee shop. The drip coffee is great. The atmosphere is vibrant and definitely a hipster hang out. Only tried one of the brews of coffee and it was tasty. They have multiple to choose from including a selection of other drinks and beers. They have baked goods and a small menu as well. If you are in the Minneapolis area and a coffee drinker, this is a must!! Stop on by!
Great coffee spot with small but great pastry selection. Outdoor seating, street a bit busy and loud but still a great spot.
Excellent place to work. Great atmosphere and quantity drinks
Great coffee, friendly staff, space for both indoor and outdoor seating. The place has a nice local vibe!
Local coffee, promoting other local producers by using their products. Darn tasty too!
One of the best coffee shops in the Twin Cities. You might have to wait a while to get your drink, but that’s because they’re carefully making it taste wonderful. I wish the store was larger, but that’s not a quick fix! The espresso machines are gorgeous and the double walled to-go cups are great. Five Watt is a treasure.
One of my fav shops. Always a vibe!
Always a great place to stop for a quick cuppa.
Awesome little coffee shop! I love everything Ive tried there and buy their high quality beans for home use.
Amazing coffee. Great environment. Love the people in this area.
Best customer service and coffee ever. Since trying the coffee, going weekly now. Recommend the 94 Boyz. Try it out.
This is one of the good ones! Very nice atmosphere but more importantly really good lattes.
This place never disappoints me. I didnt get a picture, but their iced Mochas are fabulous!
Great staff. Just be prepared for longer lines depending on the time of the morning. Their Miel is 🥰
Great vibe and barista who knows the craft.
The cashier was an rude so we left without ordering.
The staff is genuine and looks out for regulars. Often calling out their favorites customers as they walk past the shop. Definitely community focused offering local beverages and fare.
I love their coffee drinks so much!!!!
One of the best coffee shops in the twin cities! Amazing coffee with even better and unique coffee drinks! This is a local favorite for every location!
Fun staff, fancy decor, Fulfilling coffee experience
I love their unique twist on coffee. You can get the classic cappuccino or latte, but their store unique specialties are not to be missed! They change them throughout the year so youre likely to find a new favorite the next time you stop in.
Delicious coffee! However, the staff seems very slow and unwelcoming. Hopefully others have a different experience! Personally, Ive never felt welcomed by the staff. Although the staff doesnt seem friendly towards me, they instead talk a LOT amongst themselves (the staff) as they work quuuuuuite slooowly. Demeanor and attire often seems unprofessional (example: in November, a barista was working in a bralette, without a shirt on top?! Weird.). The longest wait Ive ever had for coffee has been at Five Watt, which is especially frustrating because I watch the staff chit chat amongst themselves.Of course, the coffee was delicious :) But also cost $6.50 + tip.... (which hopefully means the staff is getting paid a living wage..? I hope so!)In summary: Delicious coffee, frustrating service and speed. Hope the expensive coffee means the baristas get living wage.
This coffee shop is my all time favorite place to go for coffee. I love their unique coffee creations and have a few staples I love, but like to try their seasonal coffees too. They arent overly sugary or bitter, theyre always perfect.
My husband keeps going here or their other location on weekends when our regular place is closed. Third weekend in a row that I’m pouring it down the drain because it tastes like turkey gravy. Only time it was potable was when he asked for extra shot and they laughed at him.
I have been coming to 5 watt sence it opened. On minimum wage its a bit spendy that has not stopped me from taking 5 watts coffee to events that I an evolved in. Several of orher people at these events are now 5 watt clients.thanks 5 watt staff.
I like the coffee here so much! Whether you get plain black coffee, or one of the many creative lattes or other beverages, its all delicious. One thing I didnt like was the music. It went from ambient coffee shop music to motivational speeches? It was pretty unpleasant to listen to while I was hanging out, but I just put in my headphones, so its not a big deal. Baristas are so friendly, and the atmosphere is superb.
Love the Kingfield signature drink. Everything is tasty and worth trying. Chill baristas too.
Coming back here to elaborate on my review four months later. I think this is a great coffee shop with great quality drinks and an inventive bunch of house specialty concoctions. Its quality naturally means that seating does run out fast and you may need to have some patience to score a spot. I work from here about once a week, though, and find the crowd really laid back and accommodating if youre up for sharing a table with a stranger or packing in along one of the two bars. If you need dead quiet and guaranteed seating, this is just not going to regularly pan out that way. It is, though, really good at delivering a great atmosphere and great coffee.
One of my favorite places to study. The coffee is great and the staff is friendly. And the music selection is not your typical boring coffee shop!
Best coffee Ive ever had, the Pollinator is to die for
The drinks here are very creative! I was definitely torn between the drink I got, The Pollinator and the 1944 Boyz cold brew. Barista was really fast and helped me choose! I will be returning for sure. I will say, my sister told me she usually comes here and it is extremely busy.
I love that they dont try to cater to every taste and even if you have particular taste youre still sure to find something good on the menu. I was most surprised they have alternative milks for those who are lactose intolerant or who prefer to not consume dairy. Coffee is excellent, coffee art in your cup is amazing, baristas are outstanding. This place unabashedly has its own vibe and puts it forward with no gimmicks. Its a serious coffee shop for people who appreciate hand crafted quality espresso and the good things that accompany it; served with urban style and a high degree of sophistication. .
Good vibes.
Friendly staff and skillful baristas serve up great craft coffee. The setting is close-toed but great for getting work done, with a great view of Kingfield. Drawback: Although good, the coffee drinks likely arent worth $6 apiece.
Five Watt Coffee has always been one of my favorite Minneapolis coffee shops. The Kingfield location has plenty of seating, a friendly staff, and the same delicious coffee I know and love. Im always up for coffee @ Five Watt!
People here are always so nice. Fun atmosphere, pretty hipster. All of their drinks are great, especially if you are into the whole tasting coffee in your coffee thing. There are dairy alternatives. All around a good place to go.
This was an amazing coffee experience. We went on a Sunday morning so they had a toast bar and some live music. The coffee options were great and the staff were helpful and knowledgeable.Best of all the staff were all super friendly and were enjoying their jobs which made it a great experience.
Really nice coffee. They have some funny names for the coffees and drinks but if you are looking for something you can always ask and they will recommend you the best. Has a nice place to sit outside too if you wish. The service was really fast and the coffee tasted good. I will be back to try a few different things from the menu!
Great coffee support them there open and trying hard to be customer friendly
Holy amazing coffee! I travel a lot and one of my favorite things to check out are local coffee shops so I have experienced my fair share and this is by far one of the best. I just moved to Minneapolis and happened to move a block down from this coffee shop. I went and to check it out not knowing its already great reputation. The coffee is amazing and the service is just as great! Everyone is SO friendly here!! It is a dangerous thing for me to be living so close. Check them out! You will not be disappointed!!!
Solid coffee shop with interesting flavors and a chill atmosphere. I really want to give this place four stars because the service was so good—the gentleman at the register was willing to give me some great recommendations of things to do while I was in Minneapolis—but, when I compare it to other coffee shops that I frequent in Illinois, I had to bring the rating down to three stars because the roast I got in the bag was darker than the employee led me to believe. Great place if you like unique flavors, but, for purists, it’s just a little above mediocre.
I was there in April, so this review is pretty late. But after talking with new co-workers from the area who have never heard of it, I figure Ill write something about it.This is the local coffee shop you want to go to if youre going to Minneapolis. Their coffee is great with cool themes (such as the Big Easy with chicory as an homage to New Orleans, or The Hibernator with honey to draw an allusion to bears and honey like with Winnie the Pooh). Also, the staff is great to talk to and on nice days the front of the store opens for you to peer outside. Check it out!
Very nice. First time there. Good coffee. Clearly very popular, quite busy when I was there. Definitely will be back.
Nice Friendly Good 👍 coffee ☕ & More #☆12
One of my favorite coffee shops in South Minneapolis. Always best tasting coffee (hot or cold), my favorites are Kingfield (hot) and Gin Basil Smash (cold). Staff is always nice too. Cant go wrong there, highly recommended.
Very cool and cute one. Not lots of varieties but interesting menu. Only thing lacking is they dont have medium only small and large not sure its same in all coffee shops. Been here couple of times, and staff is very good.
Excellent coffee. I often go out of my way to grab a cup when passing by on 35W. Seems like a good place to hang out but I am usually getting coffee to go. Great meat market/butcher next door.
Five Watt is a favorite of mine! High quality drinks and they change up their specialty coffees seasonally. I recommend the Kingfield and anything with their lavender syrup.
I have high standards for lattes, and I love trying them at random local spots when I travel. Problem is.. Its so hard for me to find one that beats my favorite from the espresso truck in my hometown.. But Five Watt is the bomb. I adored my drink and the quality of espresso. The vibe and service didnt hurt either. My friend got one of their specialty drinks, Star Fox, and enjoyed his, too. Great spot to stop in and get a warm brew for sure.
Great coffee, get the gluten free donuts by Totally Baked theyre amazing! Five Watts has great coffee and take home beans.
Expensive for what it is...
This coffee shop is just far enough from, and close enough to, my house to make it a good walk destination. Also near the hardware store and the co-op for multi-tasking trips. They have your standard drinks but also creative specials that incorporate unusual flavors, including cocktail bitters. Only downsides is that it is a small space so you can’t always get a table, not a lot of snack options, and it’s a little on the more expensive side.
Five Watt is awesome - delicious drinks, super friendly staff, cool decorations, clean. Great place to meet up with a friend or get some work done (though note there isnt an abundance of outlets). Try the chi/cider drink. My only complaint is that sometimes the music can be a bit loud if youre trying to work, though having a conversation isnt a problem.
The coffee was bonkers good. We got an Ethiopian bag to bring home with us. One of the best bags of coffee weve ever gotten. The man who worked there was affable and knowledgeable. Id rate him 5 stars too.
Wonderful lovely cafe with good option for cold press coffee. Seems popular with students and professionals alike. Though not many options to eat, wish they had sandwiches.
The drinks are AMAZING. One of a kind. They use a large spectrum of bitters, which equals unparalleled unique flavors. My only wish is that the place was bigger. The few tables fill up pretty quick. And, while they have a small selection of scones and miscellany, a few more snack options would be nice.
Very friendly and calm place to be! Missy and Liz are the best. Thanks for turning my day around!
Thank you for the warmth and hospitality this morning during the aftermath of the ice storm! Great coffee and comfortable vibe xoxo thanks five watt!!
I sometimes grab coffee early in the morning on my way to work. Theyre nice especially that early in the morning. I usually get the Kingfield with oat milk, I highly recommend it!
Simply the best coffee shop in the twin cities. The staff is helpful, friendly, and charming. The coffee— from the humble americano to the latest seasonal drinks — are crafted with love and attention to detail. Even when they are crazy busy, they always have time to connect with you and make the perfect drink.
DELICIOUS COFFEE! Im an out of town guest and wish I lived closer just to come here more often. Went on a busy, Saturday morning and was still able to get lots of work done while enjoying my privacy and latte. 10/10!
Always a quality beverage and always great staff. This place and the people there are a local treasure.
Good priced, delicious coffee. :) I had an oat milk latte (they have other vegan milk options).
Best coffee in Minneapolis. These guys are passionate and very thoughtful about their coffee. Theyre willing to do things that push the coffee envelope which results in something new and original, but most of all delicious. They are actually friendly and courteous, instead of snobby, like some third wave shops can be. Definitely worth a stop.
Cool and hip coffee place. Its always packed with people on their laptops, so seating is at a premium.
World-class espresso drinks. Seriously. My wife and I seek out the best coffee shops everywhere we go, and this place easily ranks in the top echelon. A simple cappuccino or latte here is a dream--pronounced and complex flavors, yum! The staff are always friendly, and the drinks are always prepared to same high standard.
Amazing place! I never order specialty lattes but they had one with coriander bitters that sounded dreamy! Brought home their Costa Rica single origin and its fantastic! Cant wait to come back!!! Sending love from Chicago 💜
Very lively and noisy, if thats the type of environment you like to work in than this is the place for you. They have many unique. Baristas are attentive and very knowledgeable. One down side is the price of the specialty drinks. I had to give them three dollar signs because Ive never heard of such ostentatious prices! I wouldnt go as far as saying thethe toilet paper rolls in the bathroom are something to check out, ha ha ha!
Excellent mixed coffee drinks, cold brew, and espresso. Fine beans. Pastries from Patisserie 46, the best in town. One of the places I take visiting friends and relatives.
Five Watt is good coffee with hipster vibes. The coffee is unusual but excellent. I had on Ethiopian coffee that tasted like Earth and fungus. Sounds terrible but it was actually good. Because nothing says hipster coffee like overtones of Earth and fungi. The staff is friendly and will attend to your every coffee preference. The artisan goods in the back are expensive. Go to Five Watt for a good brew or two.
Decent coffee (Ive had better), very clean, with a great vibe and lots of energy. I love working on my laptop next to the big open window in the afternoons with a delicious bagel in hand. If youre looking for something a bit different this place is worth a try.
