Great little coffee shop in the middle of a multi business building. The shop had good coffee options and food selection including breakfast and sandwiches. Baked goods looked tasty as well. Building features a book store, gift shop, art center (or something like that), and more. Classrooms upstairs, probably art stuff. Worth checking out. Ill be back for sure
Coffee shops, cafes, whatever you call them they have become the defacto public spaces in todays Urban America a capitalist secularization of what once was actual God given public commons, so the more (and less taxing, er, expensive) the better. This downtown offshoot quite literally thrusts its public excitingly into traffic in its outdoor seating which is fine by me when writing, reading or having an eager conversation. The coffee is suitable and though my breakfast burrito was disappointingly meager it was nevertheless tasty. Chilled city water comes in adult sized serving sizes, thankfully (enough of the thimbles please for us Summer bike enthusiasts) and the people wander by in search of books or book art at enough space to feel seen (or to have seen a few).Indoors is quite vast by most standards and has the bonus of sculptures, a book store and the Book Art museuem contained within its walls as well. I am not sure about wifi or power plugs, but I assume the growing morning crowd would have moved on if those were not also available.
Incredibly friendly staff they are always so nice and helpful and seem invested. The space is also awesome with things to do around the building. There is a book shop, a cute paper shop, and an art space. The drink I had was also great and there was a wide range of food from breakfasts to wine. A lot of natural light. Often there are seats available AND there is parking. Win-win-win
This is such a great space. An old, old building converted into something beautiful, but still has kept some of its original charm. There are books galore and great prints and gifts. The food is good, as is the coffee. The breakfast burrito is my favorite. Reasonably priced and very filling. You can get it without meat (and I like to sub the sausage with bacon). The staff is incredibly friendly and will learn your name once you are a regular. It can get busy at times, but its a great spot to meet for lunch or a meeting! Theres also a workshop space that is open to the public - check out the gallery, too!
Open Book is one of my favorite spots in the city, and Conexion (the cafe inside it) plays a crucial role in that.My writing group meets here once per month and I always get coffee and a breakfast sandwich or burrito. Before that, when I was taking a year-long class at The Loft, Conexion was there for me one evening per week for caffeine and snacks, dinner and good local beer. Its a hidden gem in our fair city and I hope this review is a small step toward changing that. Come, sit, eat and drink, surround yourself with books and book people. And tell Jake (my favorite barista) that Amber says hi.
This is a fantastic spot to come enjoy a book, meet up with a friend, or study. The coffee is always great, and the guys on the bar are fantastic! Its a favorite in the neighborhood, with more charm than most could hope for! Love this coffee shop!
Great space and amazing locally made artworks. Just prepare yourself for not so friendly guys at the cafe. At the cafe, it felt like I was inconveniencing them with ordering food and coffee when they had other things they would rather be doing than customer service.Update to Owner: I seem to not know how to reply to your post privately, but I was in MN visiting from out of state, so I am unable to meet with you. I visited Tuesday, Oct.2, 2018 in the morning. It is a great space with yummy food, but I think that the staff just had an off morning?
Nice space to work/write. Plenty of seating and a decent food and drink menu. Its a nice atmosphere with The Loft upstairs and Milkweed Editions bookstore on the same floor.
Great tasting espresso, and great environment with local art and books for display and for sale. Breakfast all day. The upstairs is like a library with a quieter study atmosphere. If you want to go to coffee shop but not feel obligated to buy coffee, its great for that too.
The shop was mostly fine. I went in to browse books and ended up getting some food as well. The main complaint I have is how pricey things were - Food, Coffee, etc, were all a little to much money for my liking. I will probably go back, but there are better cafes in the area to sit and get work done at, with food at better prices too.
Best espresso and drip coffee I’ve had! First time visit to Conexion, great service by Brandon. Might just be my deciding factor to move to Minneapolis. Well done. 👍
Ive had lunch here twice while in the area. The first time I had a french dip that was super tasty. Would definitely recommend that!
Happy hour every weekday is great! 4-6 I believe...$5 for any glass of wine. Make sure to try a dancing bear chocolate paw cookie, its decadent and incredibly rich, made by the owners! Great place to work, meet up, or write. Staff is always very friendly
Nice coffee shop tucked inside Open Book. Plenty of seating to work or meet. Nice service and selection of coffees. I had a latte while my coworker had the cappuccino, which I must say looked so good. It’s on my list to try next time!
An absolute haven for the literary nerd.It feels impossible that this buildings houses as much as it does. The loft, the target performance center, an amazing cafe, a bookstore, a publishing house, and more.I could live in this beautiful house of words.
We love dropping by Open Book for unique paper products, sending card to friends, and finding exceptional book art. The place is a pleasure to visit: from its stone walls, the fun staircase, lighting; it is a great décor experience. The exhibition gallery always has exceptional art display, and I like supporting local artists.
Great coffee and friendly staff. Located inside a printing press/book store. Awesome atmosphere with cool things to check out. If you truly love bookmaking, this is the perfect coffee house.
Super small portions for food. The leather seats are worn. Can be much better.
I feel a little guilty giving anything 5 stars. I mean, it has to be exceptional on nearly all levels of judgment. I would actually rate 4.5 stars, but I dont have that option, so I would rather rate higher than lower.Caveat aside, Open Book pleases me. Good selection of coffees, teas, pastries, food and even French soda. There are several areas and levels of seating you can choose from. Fast internet (this should be a given in most coffee shops, but you would be surprised). Staff is personable and efficient. Also, they are open pretty late, which is nice when your throwing down 2000 words for a paper due later that night.
Good drinks served by friendly staff, cozy industrial vibe good to meet friends or bring a laptop to get work done. While youre there check out awesome local art and books for sale at the other businesses in the building
Home of the Loft literary Center. A wonderful place to learn how to write with the best teachers you could find anywhere. Ive taken classes there for the last 3 years and will continue for as long as I live in Minneapolis.
Open space, treats not bad, some GF offering. Cold press coffee is excellent, chocolate notes, but a bit strong. I like to have them dilute it a little and heat it. Can be busy. Some additional seating upstairs is generally open.
Went with a friend for a quick lunch, and it was fantastic! Great selection, I couldnt decide on which sandwich as they all looked delecious. Staff was very nice and friendly. Will definitely go back again for lunch or just coffee!
Great space for a meeting of 15 of us. We went first thing in the morning and were able to get two big tables. Street parking was easy to find.
Stopped by this morning for a hot chocolate (I know, but Im not a coffee drinker, and it was 15º at the bus stop). The service was friendly, and the drink is one of the best Ive ever had. Ill be back.
Cute place, full of different bookbinding and authoring rooms
I work right down the block from this cute coffee shop inside of Open Book. They have the best mochas ever! I love the cute latte art they do, and the staff is always super friendly. Their food is good as well, I love their breakfast burritos, yummmm
This building is also home of Loft Literacy Centeral and their coffee shop is a wonderful place to sip a miel coffee and eat a bran muffin
Great place for quick lunch. Good service, sandwiches and soups. A little spendy but why not? A place that bans guns has my vote.
Love sitting here - would be nice if temporary closure was available to public before walking in and wandering like a gonzo. Wanted to work from here today!
Great space, friendly staff, Ok coffee. I really like this spot, its one of the few coffee shops in the neighborhood. The coffee is good, not the best.I think my favorite feature about this place is their student discount!
A must for paper and book art lovers. The place is thoughtfully presented: a mix of rustic stone walls and rusted metal sliding industrial doors with new furniture, lighting, and décor. Its also a multipurpose site: it has an independent bookstore, paper workshop, print workshop, type workshop, an exhibition gallery, classrooms, meeting rooms, conference hall, café, gift shop, reading areas... 💕 I absolutely loved it.💕
A charming place. Part café, part melting pot for creatives of all types. I enjoyed a delicious salad and iced herbal tea in this old restored building. The atmosphere is calm, and the staff are both friendly and efficient. Make a point to explore this downtown gem!
Such a cool building that houses a bunch of great literary orgs: the Loft Literary Center, Milkweed Editions (and bookstore), and Minnesota Center for Book Arts. A lot of great places to write, study, and/or hangout. Also a good cafe
The open book is an exciting and safe place for writers.Great coffee drinks, extraordinary deli menu selections, nice baked goods for ones first tidbit of the day with coffee, and an inviting atmosphere for young writers.A +!
Great place for book lovers. Has a great book store. They support local author. Wring classes are high quality.
Take a class and buy some book making supplies! Awesome coffee shop and book store. A really cool place!
What a great space for a book launch, book celebration, speaker event or a book reading.Always lovely, always inspiring.I highly recommend this space if youre going outside a traditional book store location.
I love the Protagonist. Such smooth flavor, the staff is so friendly, easy to talk to, and a great study atmosphere.
One of my favorite coffee places in Minneapolis! Wonderful atmosphere, great tea and coffee, and friendly staff! :)
Bookstore, gift shop, coffee shop all in one! And the offices of a massage therapy group on the 1st floor. Id love here if they let me!
Love the ambience and friendly service. I go here for business meetings, socializing, or to relax and work by myself. Freshly prepared food. Great Downtown East location.
Love this joint. Great food and drinks with an excellent ambience. The perfect place to discuss, read, or write that next great book!
Great atmosphere, great coffee/tea. Try the London fog
Enjoyed writing classes and workshops as well as coffee. Beautiful setting to be creative in.
An amazing and very cool literary hangout. Be sure to visit Milkweed Books.
Great study spot and bookstore! Food is pretty good. I didnt get to try the coffee
This, my second visit, was very different from my first. My order was taken by an unaccountably rude man. Later, a much more pleasant barista appeared. Theres not much in the way of healthy options on the breakfast menu but the space is very appealing and associated with the commendable Minnesota Center For Book Arts. Unfortunately, Im less likely to try the cafe a third time, as being greeted by unwelcome attitude is not the way to start a weekend morning.
I have to say it, I love the build your own breakfast crossandwhich here! They have a pretty wide variety of ingredients so making what you crave wont be a problem. Soft and warm and packed with flavor! And comboing it with a hot chocolate and the artistically stacked tower of whipped cream will make anyones day that much more special! If you are in the are, then this is a must.
Great for meetings, food and drink, gift shop, exhibition about books and paper. A unique place.
But some of the drinks are a little too sweet I think
The airport location is also great, and the people working there love books. Probably the best airport bookstore I know.
Good coffee, nice academic like urban ambiance. Loved the place.
So much creativity and expanded thinking! Love this place.
The new location is nice and well laid out. Staff are helpful and very nice
Excellent. Great baristas. Great food. The Mexican Dark coffee, the ambiance make this a place that I visit every week.
Best coffee shop in the twin cities. The location is perfect, the coffee taste great, the staff is awesome, and the building is super cool! What more could you want from a coffee shop?
Nice cafe, but not much variety, and the book store is good, but no comics or kids section
Artsy cafe and book store very suitable for an studying and meeting with friends.
Fantastic latte. great staff. wonderful environment.
Amazing coffee, great service! Very endearingly grumpy guy that works in the back.
Great spot for weekly coffee get-togethers.
Excellent coffee, very good service and atmosphere.
Fantastic pizza. Ann Kim is very creative.
Great ambiance, but intense male barista kept coughing over and into customer coffee drinks while pouring them.
The classes, the food and beverages, the ambiance... all great.
Good chai latte, really nice space to sit and work - lovely ambience.
Fun little place! We explored the museum after.
Combined scents of excellent coffee and books is intoxicating in the best possible way, my favorite aromatherapy
Great to visit, wonderful book-artist spot to spark creativity.
Great place to learn abot and work on book related art.
Great vibe, good wine and a heart-breaking reading. What more can you ask for?
Excellent coldpress, knowledgable and approachable baristas, delicious and varied coffee, beautiful location, widespread menu, decent hours, great place to work on your laptop or read a book - or just soak in the comfortable atmosphere. Everything a coffee-shop lover could ask for.
I love this space. Cozy and friendly
Bro! This is the dopest coffee shop in all of Minneapolis. if you want to get together with your Bros, and you all got these new haircuts, this is the place to get a cup of joe, Bro! The service is The toppest of the top notch and the eats are Gourmet and come out fast and hot.
This is a great place with lots of resources for writers and readers.
Theres always something happening over here. If you like the arts or literature, worth a stop.
Friendly service, best crumb cake, lovely location, reliable WiFi.
Great place to hang out and get some work done
Beautiful books, great book making supplies and wonderful customer service. Also attached to a coffee shop so that is a plus.
If you love all things books you need to see what Open Book can offer, part art center, part educational center but at the center of it all is the book come see us, follow us on Twitter and Facebook at openbookmn.
Minnesota Center for Book Arts does great work.
Great atmosphere and good food.
Excellent to have free downtown parking dedicated to Open Book!
Very nice space. Mpls election location ward 3 precinct 9
Great study space. Quaint cafe
Dont waste your time
Great bookstore, interesting classes, talented people.
Great place for meetings, seminars, and workshops.
Coffee was great, but i was looking for a real bookstore
Love this place, plenty of quiet nooks.
