This place is a book-lovers dream. A gift shop focused on book arts. Literary events. Rental rooms for determined authors. And a cafe with both solid coffee, side items, and beer on tap. The aesthetic is open and creative. I love coming here to write and get my creative energies flowing.
The triple threat of Loft Lit Center, Open Book, and Milkweed Editions made this building a place of constant quirky events would wouldnt see elsewhere until the last few years where greed has taken over a bit. Readings which used be free have changed to $10-$20 a pop at the Loft. Former wall to wall people Open Book openings now are lucky to get a dozen, thanks to an $8 charge for wine and beer which used to be hosted (highly illegal by the way without an alcohol license), and the downgrading of apps to vegi and dip trays. The halcyon days of MCBA are long over.
This place is totally incredible, got an amazing print here I’ve cherished for years and there’s awesome resources for learning all sorts of amazing art styles!
The best cafe in the neighborhood. Gift shop is nice. Ironically, they dont carry stationary. I guess no one writes letters but me.
Inspiring place for all ages to learn the history of the art and craft of book-making, and become a book artist as well. There are a lot of great gifts in the gift shop too.
This place is the best. I have been there twice with my classes and, as a teacher, the experience for the kids is superb.
Lots of artists and book binders at work. Great store if you love paper and paper arts!
Cute place to inspire kids about the art of books!
Love it
