First time visit, will definitely go back. Service and food was excellent! Very nice atmosphere. Our waitstaff was training another staff. Explained this to us, which I appreciated. Both introduced themselves and both did an excellent job!!
One of my favorite breakfast spots in Milwaukee. The courtyard is beautiful and the staff is always great. We had amazing service today at the drink station. The lady was wonderful. Thank you for staying safe throughout the last year.
Food is always good never had a problem there staff is always friendly and it was nice to finally eat there on the patio since covid
A very nice breakfast near the lakefront in Milwaukee. The service was excellent and the food tasty as well. Highly recommended.
Very good service. We came with a group of ten including a couple of kids and it was great. Food was solid.
A little bit disappointed. Maybe I had high hopes for this place. This place has been on my want-to-visit list for a little bit over a year now. I always wanted to go there but had no time. The ambience is very attractive and interesting. The building is over from a different era. Small narrow doors, older tile walls, high stairs. Everything about this place screams 1940s? Maybe. Its clean and well maintained and the chairs are very comfortable. You have the option to sit on a table, or on a bar-like place where you can watch some food being prepared in front of you. We sat on a table. The server was attentive. She came to us within moments. She introduced herself and was very polite. She was a little bit attentive maybe? She came back to us very shortly and made me feel a little pressured. But she was nice overall and I think she was just trying to be a good server. We ordered their Avocado Toast. It wasnt very good. A little bit sweet and tastes almost like something else. We also ordered Plaza Chicken Sandwich with the plaza potatoes which is basically fried cubes of potatoes with some veggies. The fried chicken in the sandwich was indeed almost burnt. I didnt like the bread and the chicken tasted bland. The sandwich was open when severed and it wasnt juicy at all.The bloody Mary is mediocre at best. The bacon in the Mary was overcooked and burnt and it came with cheese instead of a pickle. The Turkey Chili soup was actually good. I liked it even though I am not a big fan of turkey, really.Sadly I dont think Ill ever come back to this place. Not for food, definitely. It was a nice experience overall but if you want delicious food, look somewhere else.
Terrible food. Eggs Benedict not cooked properly. Runny whites. Pancakes burnt on bottom. I had this place on a bucket list. Not going again.
This was such a pleasant experience! We found this place as the only one open for breakfast and within walking distance in this area.Walking in feels like I stepped back a few decades. We were offered an outdoor table and to our surprise it was an oasis in a big city. Ivy grew on all the brick walls surround the patio space. I really felt like I was in a quaint quiet town instead of Milwaukee. The coffee and lattes were divine and the food was even better. So many wonderful choices, it was hard to pick. Definitely wished I could have gone back the next day.
Absolutely delicious breakfast. We sat outside in the patio and the whole experience was lovely.
Met friends for breakfast. Ordered the Plaza Scramble with rye toast and fruit. Cooked perfect with a nice blend of flavors. Fruit was ripe and delicious.
The Plaza offers delicious food and a great dining experience! They add a unique twist to the brunch classics we’ve come to expect. This time we enjoyed a classic breakfast scramble, avocado toast, and a daily special, their Cinnamon Toast Crunch French toast. Outstanding! Shout out to our waitress Kate who made the morning even better!
Really good food (lemon poppyseed pancakes are amazing) and they have eco friendly practices.
The food is really good and you just feel so relaxed dining here.
This place is always the most lovely for brunch. It is probably my favorite place in the city. Id like to tell you to not come here because it was a hidden jem, but word it out.We never feel rushed. If you want a quick breakfast on the weekend, order take out ahead of time. Dont forget the hashbowns. They have a great pickup window so you dont even have to go inside. If you want to enjoy your time and your company, then add your name to the list. The courtyard is so cozy, and the music is warming. Even in the midst of the pandemic and a complete rush, they are always super accommodating in trying to get folks seated, making sure we have drinks while we wait, and getting to us as soon as they can. Its an amazing place. Plan to wait to get seated. Get a drink, sit outside, and enjoy yourself. Plan to wait for service. Continue to sip on your cocktail while waiting to order.Theyre accommodating large amounts of people, safely, in a small space during a pandemic and doing an amazing job at it. I have definitely learned to appreciate the fact that I can have brunch on a courtyard outside in Milwaukee. We enjoy our time there and always plan the time so we can catch up with friends in a relaxing environment with great food, fantastic ingredients, and amazing cocktails (oh those passion fruit mimosas were grand on Sunday). And, the staff are working their tails off to accommodate us all. So grateful! Thanks, Sophia! 💕
Food was good, but didnt like the paper plates!
Amazing food! Service was a bit slow at times. Would highly recommend the parfait.
Beautiful setting. Patio is amazing. Good food. Reasonable prices.
Absolutely loved the Big Country Brunch Burger for brunch! Seasoned patty? Delicious. Runny egg? Always a plus. CHORIZO gravy? Mind. Blown. The chorizo gravy is what makes this burger unique and worth getting. Ive never had a chorizo style country gravy before until now. The bar has been set for anyone after this now.The smoked salmon eggs Benedict was also delicious. I enjoyed the dill but it could be overpowering for some. Both dishes were a hit.Shout out to Yelp. The waiting list feature on the app saved us. It was the difference between immediate seating and a 30 minute wait.
Warning-entire indoor restaurant is NOT handicapped accessible and there are no provisions for assistance for disabled customers. Approximately 5-8 full steps from lobby up to restaurant area.
Highly recommend the chicken sandwich. Everything is always made fresh to order. Great selection of items :)
Wonderful food, but the presentation was lacking a little
Long wait to be seated but the food was was worth it.
One of the best cafes in Milwaukee. It really resembles the set of a Wes Anderson movie. The garden courtyard is just wonderful.
Sarah greeter is, provided a to go order through the window, then showed us to ou
Good food. Beautiful setting.
Always a lovely time for brunch here.
A Milwaukee staple, you cant go wrong with breakfast here. A massive range of options, all cooked right in front of you (if you sit in the right place ;-)) I had the traditional eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns and the missus had a fried chicken sandwich that was incredible. If youre looking for breakfast or havent come here before, do yourself a favor and drop in for a treat. Staff were great too.
Amazing food!
We love coming here. If you are ordering breakfast and arent staying at the hotel for a nap afterward...I recommend a lot of coffee! The portions are extremely generous. We went on a busy Saturday afternoon and were seated much quicker (2 of us) than the given estimate. If you want great food, and a nice atmosphere to coincide I dont think anywhere in Milwaukee is better.
A must for Milwaukee brunch (right near the streetcar route too if you want to make a day of it!) or a quick work lunch (the falafel is SO good)- its the rare spot where the food and ambiance combine to make something even greater than its parts. If you can get seated at the diner counter, youll get to enjoy watching the food be pumped out in epic fashion, and Ive also heard theres an incredible courtyard dining option Ive never been lucky enough to get seated in. A great excuse to keep coming back!
Food and dining was positive overall, but using the single stall restrooms near the lobby was difficult and dampened an otherwise pleasant experience.Apparently much of the kitchen staff uses the restrooms outside of the cafe near the lobby.. I waited for 10/15 minutes with my better half for the ladies room before we gave up. It was an employee inside and three additional employees attempted to use it during that time as well. Not to mention two other female customers who gave up on using the restroom after waiting for several minutes.I understand that employees need the facilities as well, I just wonder if there is a policy the management could enforce to inconvenience customers less..Other than this slight inconvenience, the food and service were fantastic. So I will likely still eventually return to eat at the cafe again.Especially if issues like this can be avoided in the future. 🙂
I dont know why it took me so ungodly long to finally get to this spot and it did not disappoint. Sitting at the counter, I feel like Im in a time capsule that had been lovingly preserved without being allowed to go stagnant. The chef runs a tight ship and it shows. The food is remarkable and the things I didnt get to have but watched go out looked amazing. Cant wait to come back.
We didn’t end up actually getting in. When calling to ask about getting in with a wheel chair.. they had said no problem. But they apparently think that five or so stairs is considered accessible for wheel chairs. Their “oh you can use the other door. It’s a lot easier with only two or three stairs.” Was when we decided to just leave. Good thing we called ahead and specifically asked about accessibility.
A true Milwaukee gem and one of a kind experience. The setting is beautiful, the food is great, the staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. I eat here for brunch as often as I can.
As a self admitted local foodie I was shocked that I had never heard of this gem. Locally sourced ingredients. Crispy fresh greens. Everything made to order right in front of you (if you sit in the 1930’s styled diner section) by a cool collected kitchen. The breakfast sandwich (gluten free bread option!!) with herbed goat cheese and just the right amount of greens for balance over cheesy eggs. Such a treat. If you adore a diverse yet timeless atmosphere, great service and some of the best breakfast food options in the city with a laid back vintage feel... consider this your go-to for a downtown breakfast. Love it!
Pleasant space for amazing food. I visit almost twice a month here and always amazed with their excellent quality food and service. Highly recommended for breakfast as well !!
Best chicken and Waffles in the city.
Got there around 8:45. The staff was super friendly and food was great. The poutine and biscuits and gravy were some of the best I’ve had and I’m not even a poutine or biscuits and gravy kind of guy. Would definitely go back. Parking is a bit of a pain but that isn’t their problem.
Great breakfast! SO fresh!!!
AWESOME decor except the swastika floor tiles left over from worse days... Creative menu, clean and cool. Manager showed me around as I was killing time, the back patio is like New Orleans style with the Ivy and lights. Bacon was not that crunchy, cold brew coffee was on point but no espresso. Open kitchen so you can see the chefs
People came in after us was served first, took about an half hour to get the food. Coffee refills wasnt easily gotten. Felt racial tention, didnt feel welcome.
First class service and a delightful menu! Fabulous food presentation! Definitely will be back!
Limited menu, but what they have is nice. The 1920s ambiance is well worth the minimal menu. The garden seating area is rather lovely.
We went with a friend that lives in Milwaukee and we were totally surprised. It’s a hotel restaurant that has delicious food and excellent service. We got the poutine which was very tasty and a very Wisconsin experience (melted cheese curds in the poutine). Their portions are HUGE and the prices are very reasonable, so make sure you come hungry! Their water was out of commission during our dining experience and the waitstaff went out of their way to make sure we got bottled water (for free). Overall great experience!
Really good food, the classic breakfast and soup at least. Service was very good. Food came in a timely matter and the waitress wasnt constantly checking up on us, which is a plus in my book. We sat in the cafe section of the restaurant. Very nice experience; will definitely return.
We had our wedding guests stay here and in addition to wanting to check it out ourselves, we had a City Tin to use. I loved the historical look and although the menu was smaller, it was a good selection. I had the lemon poppyseed pancakes which were delicious! Never seen that before. My husband had the scrambler which he enjoyed and both meals were substantial portions. The only reason Im saying 4 stars is the service was slow. Would highly recommend!
This is a cool little diner! Vintage atmosphere and an amazing breakfast however, I had to pull a star because we couldnt find the waitress when we were ready to leave for our meeting.
Absolutely Delicious
Always amazing food, and a great atmosphere. Service can take a bit if they are packed, but if you have the time it is worth the wait!
Wonderful art deco hotel, great for breskfast. Lovely outdoor patio reminiscent of what you might find in New Orleans.
Went for Sunday brunch. Nice ambiance on back patio past classic hotel diner room. Service was good. Food was okay.
Wonderful brunch/lunch food. Great variety and good portion sizes. Sat outside in their lovely garden. Perfect!
Their brunch is ok and streamlined. I love this location, it could be an amazing venue especially outside, but the service is so so SO poor. We never even got napkins. You have to wait hours on the service. They dont even ask you want another drink or refill, their servers are so unaware. Better training and this place would actually be worth the money.
This place is great! We ate in the courtyard which is cozy and lush. Starting the morning with their bloody Mary was a great idea, since it was one of the best I have ever had. The eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly. Thanks to another review we ordered a side of the corned beef and hash which was the best, but expect it to be greasy in a good way. We will be back!
Vibe was great. There in a big snow day. Packed. Service great. Had eggs Benedict and hash browns. Yum. I am going back!
The corned beef hash was amazing! They make it completely from scratch. Its also a huge serving! The avocado toast is their biggest seller and looked super good too
I absolutely love having breakfast here - it is a must do! I have never had a bad experience. Everyone on the staff is so friendly. The tables are comfortable for any size group. The dining room is cozy and bright, or you can sit by the counter and watch them prepare the food. In the summer they have outdoor seating in a beautiful courtyard. The food is really good as well. Definitely try the poppyseed pancakes. The blueberry sauce they serve it with is amazing. I love the breakfast burrito, Plaza Pleaser, and the avocado toast. The coffee is spectacular as well.
Brunch at the Cafe at the plaza was a bit of a let down. I ordered avocado toast and the poached egg on top tasted like it had been poached entirely in vinegar. Additionally the egg was over cooked so you didn’t get that rich runny yolk like one would expect out of a poached egg. The saving grace of this brunch for me was the Bloody Mary. The mix was delicious and had a good balance of savory and spicy. The accompaniments of cheese and a piece of candied bacon that came with the bloody also took it a step up. Overall this was just an ok experience but all of the negatives could just be an off day for them.
While I enjoy the Cafe for regular weekend breakfast, this is primarily aimed at my event. The Plaza held our rehearsal dinner in their courtyard. The courtyard was beautifully set up and the food was wonderful! Great private spot for a private party.
It is pretty good. I would say its not amazing but a great option for this neighborhood.
Chef Danny is amazing! You can sit and watch while he cooks everyones food. Its entertaining and delicious. Prices are exactly what they should be. The feel of the entire place is perfect for anyone. They also have outdoor seating on the patio which is beautiful and relaxing. I recommend this cafe to everyone that appreciates good food.
Lovely cafe with a NYC feel. In summer they have unquie outdoor seating surrounding yourself with brick and vines. All year round you can jump on one of the counter seats to enjoy the art decor and chatter while dining on great food. Breakfast is a must.
Delicious croissant breakfast sandwich and the brioche french toast was fantastic.
A lovely cafe in a very old and charming hotel. Istanpitta Early Music ensemble had breakfast there this past week for several days in a row. The French toast was excellent as well as the coffee. I would say the hash browns were a little disappointing and the attempt at pumpkin pancakes I guess is just a little on the difficult side as it was a bit dry. Omelette and Breakfast (huge) burrito was heavenly. But beyond the food we kept coming back for our server whos name was J. Js friendliness and smile and attentive service was beyond anything the human language can describe. My whole music ensemble adored J.
I went here for brunch and it was marvelous! The service was quick and our server Kayla was lovely. We loved the coffee cake and poutine. With only one visit, Café is already in my list of favorite brunch spots in Milwaukee. I also want to add how friendly the staff at the Plaza is!
Wonderful brunch in their garden patio. You feel as if you are in another city, very charming. Nice brunch selection, wonderful service.
Excellent breakfast place. 40s diner feel, with upscale food. Reasonably priced.
The Plaza has some great breakfast and lunch! The French toast is pretty tasty. The club sandwich is also superb and expertly crafted. Each piece of lettuce and bacon was expertly placed. Would definitely go back!
Good food and service. The wait was fine, but the system to find people and seat people just doesnt work. Food was good.
$13 omelet, came with the wrong cheese and tasted more like cooking oil than eggs. Quite dissatisfying experience overall (probably should have sent it back, though I doubt it would have improved the eggs). Hash browns werent bad, though nothing to rave about. I had higher expectations given the prices and past reputation, and I wont be back., This is one kitchen that has really gone downhill in recent years.
Great breakfast spot on East side of Milwaukee. A little pricey than fast food but well worth the time and money.
Great and hearty 1007 Breakfast Burger. . . I added Smoked Salmon. Collectivo coffee has never truly failed me, and that freshly squeezed oj is absolutely delicious! Customer service was okay, I did not explore the building because the smell was a bit much for me. The garden patio...is absolutely recommended by me, youll likely experience a plethora of wildlife while you dine!
Great place for breakfast or brunch in the city. Get there early though. It is fairly small with not that many tables for larger groups. Definitely get the chive hash browns.
A quaint old s school style diner. Food is very good, atmosphere is laid back. Located on Milwaukee fashionable lower east side..
Delicious, fantastic, perfect Eggs Benedict, nicely spiced sausage, and the coffee was pretty great too. Prices are reasonable, decor is nicely art deco, wait wasnt too long for a Sunday brunch without a reservation. Absolutely worth a stop.
Best service Ive had in ages. Excellent breakfast. Perfect diner counter experience.
Love their brunch. Especially the lemon poppyseed pancakes!
Always good food and good service at a good price
Great retro (1940s) feel. Upscale food. Perfect for breakfast meetings.
I loved the look and ambience of this place, the 1920’s style made the experience inviting. Not the greatest service, we waited a while once we were done eating for the bill. And the BYO mimosa with the small amount of Prosecco you get was not worth $10/ea. My husband got french toast and eggs which were good. I got the salmon benedict which was really salty and the egg was over poached. If I came back I’d have to try a different dish and avoid the mimosa bar.
Worth going to for the gorgeous old hotel alone. Food was good too👍🏻
Great food, the presentation of the food is great. Tastes as good as it looks👍
Great breakfast. Ordered the breakfast sandwich, delicious!
Nice surprise. Good food and great service. Very reasonably priced. A+++
Really great breakfast/brunch. I love the diner feel. It has a bright sunny dining room with lovely details. Great for a Saturday or Sunday morning.
Highly recommend the Lemon Poppy seed pancakes with Blueberry Ginger syrup! Great stop when youre on a girls day getaway! Cafe at The Plaza is ALWAYS our 1st stop! ❤️
