If your staying on or near south beach and you are a lover of arts you need to check the Bass out. Not only was the curated art amazing and interactive but the gallery staff engages with public and are there to tell you more about the art work. I have been to my fair share of contemporary art museums but the experience I had at the bass raised the bar. The staff def had a lot to do with my amazing experience. I learned so much.
A portal, a unique perspective, an escape route lined with with surreal yellow blossoms to twist perceptions and paint expressions of new realities. Ideas, thoughts, colors, domesticities electrified and on display presented as a feast for the eyes. Freely explore as a Miami Beach resident. The cafe and shop are just cherry!
This museum has some super cool pieces and is a fun and peaceful alternative to the chaos of south beach for an hour! The downside: admission is $20pp and I felt the museum was rather small for that fee.**I think there’s a Groupon for $8pp, which would totally make this place worth it!All in all, it was a very clean, organized and well staged museum! If you’re into contemporary art, check it out before you leave!!
Underwhelming. Looks like a much bigger space from the outside. The art was beautiful, it just didnt meet expectations, quanity wise. Also felt like there were too many curators jumping on every human who walked through. Personally, I love to look at art from my perspective and it felt like there were a lot of personalities hindering my experience. Again, I PERSONALLY wouldve been better off left alone to explore rather than being bothered every 15 seconds
Im new to Southern Florida and decided to venture out and see some local sites. The Bass did not disappoint, I enjoyed the contemporary art and met a very friendly employee. I believe her name was Sheva, she made my experience that much better with her knowledge and sense of humor.
I went to this museum for an event. The museum was open to go through the exhibit on the second and first floor. The event had an open bar and some pretty good appetizers. Not sure if they had an put door vendor for the bar and food.Either way, the setting was great for the event. I am not sure the price, but it was pretty cool. Might be worth to check it out.I want too into the art exhibit, but it wasn’t bad.
You walk into this museum and not only will you see very lovely and unique art but most importantly you meet the most awesome and kindest people who work there🌟 who will have the answers to your questions.
Great experience at the bass. The exhibit is super interesting and they have implemented some young docents who are knowledgeable and excited to talk to you about the art.
Terrible customer service at the Museum. They treat you pretty bad even when you are just walking around. They treat very bad my 3 kids as well. First and last time there. Not a family friendly museum. The staff ruined the experience.
Well-priced museum, with a great selection of modern and contemporary art. Very inclusive, and up-to-date, especially with the QR codes scattered around the museum.
This is a great museum. The day we went it happened to be free, but we would have happily paid. There were a lot of very interesting and unusual exhibits. Im surprised they let people climb on the giant bed, definitely try it if you go! For those saying its too short or not worth the money, I would say they are not giving the exhibits due consideration. Many of them clearly took a great deal of time, creativity and craftsmanship by the artists. Well worth a visit.
Charming small museum if you need a break from beach and partying in Miami Beach. You will need a taste for contemporary art to enjoy it.
It’s small compared to the galleries I’m used to in the DC and Baltimore area but it’s a nice break from the city and there are some decent pieces. Not too expensive
Its a wonderful small-sized museum that follows all the health protocols. A great place to spent time with family or friends
Nice building and grounds. The art? hmmmm ...
The Bass is a MUST SEE on Miami Beach! Wonderful, friendly staff and security, delicious food in the cafe, and a truly thought-provoking and engaging array of art throughout the various exhibitions, which have been carefully curated. I was lucky enough to see the Botticelli restoration, which was a great treat as I was expecting to see only contemporary art, but I learned about the Old Masters that was part of the founding collection. The Bass is a small but mighty contemporary art powerhouse on Miami Beach. Run, dont walk.
We visited in July when the Sheila Hicks display was in place, it was 10 dollars for the three of us (12 and above) and free for the child. It’s not a big museum but it was quite thoughtful and we had about 50mins of entertainment and they involved reading every plaque in the building. The staff where quite friendly and the four star is based on the small size of the venue
My wife and I visited the Bass while in Miami Beach. The museum was a pleasant surprise. The artists works were contemporary and well received. I recommend this museum
A cozy little park worth strolling around for some peace and quiet on the bustling streets of South Beach
Cool museum. Loved some of the exhibits - that big bed is just out of this world - was tempted to get myself locked in for the night. Only negative is the size - it’s a little small - would have preferred a slightly bigger and longer museum to go through.
A great diversion from the beach: a charming museum with several galleries for the modern art enthusiast.
Excellent exhibitions, welcoming and friendly staffs. I enjoyed my visit!
The customer service at the museum is awful the treat you pretty bad even when you are not doing anything bad I know there are some rules you need to follow but they can be nicer and specially when they are asking for things that are not the most common ones. They ruined my experience.
Your enjoyment will be very dependent on the exhibits featured at the time. Great staff and they enforce covid safety protocols though!
Nice museum, several collections even some to interact with. Only part of the experience I didn’t care for was the following of the attendants, i understand why they do what they do, but it makes you uncomfortable the whole visit. Made me rush my visit for that reason.
I didn’t love it, very small.
Really nice museum... Not too expensive. You should go.
Fabulous exhibitions. Recommended. Staff very friendly
CAME HERE & SAW SHEILA.
This small museum has recently reopened. We visited when a major exhibit was being installed and they generously charged half price for admission. The exhibits that were available were quite interesting and we were happy to have spent some time away from the bustle of South Beach. Great location at Collins Park. Small and funky art exhibition with a small cafe. It’s a nice break from the frantic South Beach.
I came here with my family. Right when we walked in we got welcomed from the employees. Very nice and friendly. She also explained to me that if you live in south beach you get free entry. The museum usually costs 10$ per person so that was awesome. The museum is super clean and is very easy to walk around. Usually its not that packed unless they have something going on like art basel or other big events. They do have two floors, sadly have of the first floor was closed when we were there. They do, from my understanding change it up once in a while so they are able to represent different artists.Which makes you wanna come more often. There is also a gift shop with a little cafe in there which pretty much rounds the whole place up.You can take pictures which also makes it a little more fun. All in all its worth going by either way.
Small, but interesting museum in the heart of Miami Beach. Offers an experience in contemporary art and occasionally concerts and family activities;-) I just have to add to this review... Since the recent renovation, the museum has transformed into a modern art gallery with the most amazing exhibitions... The previously dark spaces showcasing mummies have been turned into lively galleries presenting contemporary artists... For one of the most recent exhibitions, one of the rooms has been turned into a club! Definitely a great experience for adults as well as kids...
Nice small gallery. Art is well presented and can easily see everything in under an hour. Hit and miss on the pieces themselves but thats contemporary art for you. The place was really quiet so we were being followed by security which is a bit unsettling but they were actually really friendly and let us know we could actually interact with a few pieces.
Wonderful place to go, fun things to see.
This small museum exhibits international contempt art.
Cool little museum with friendly staff. You can get in at half price if you have your student ID with you. The exhibits seem to change from year to year to keep things fresh. Cool way to spend an hour down in Miami Beach.
What a giant of a cozy museum! I enjoyed every nook and cranny of The Bass. I would call it funky, fun, and meaningful. Make sure Trisha is there and ask her to explain the exhibit where she is - not a docent - but a security guard with volumes of knowledge. I wish I lived in the area so I could return when the exhibits change. (Don’t miss the video installations, they are truly funky.)
Great staff and space. Enjoyed the diversity of art. Got to see Better Nights by Mickalene Thomas, it was very well done, very moving.
I go every Saturday with my daughter they have many activities for children and teens also family activities. They a have a little cafeteria and the costumer service is very good. My daughter is very happy with her classes on Saturday I hope 2019 to see the activities program.
Nice respite from the local pace. Small venue. Check ahead for current art exhibt/installations. Nice that admission is discounted for students and free to military and Veterans.
Terrible people at the front and back. It was a little busy, first gallery I walk in I start being followed. I have no idea why. I ask if theres a issue and if they belong to the loss prevention unit as I thought museum should be open and not feeling like someone is always watching your every move. Its not a bank. If there is any problems and security is needed just install some cameras. First and last time walking in there. Horrible experience.
Great exhibits available consistently.
Great place, and super friendly staff. Trisha was fantastic, with great sense of humor and broad knowledge about the exhibits. Thanks to her my visit at the Bass was much more exciting. I will definitely visit again when I am back in Miami.
If you are one who appreciates modern and interpretive art, this is an excellent museum to visit. While I am not an avid modern art enthusiast; this museum does have a nice collection of art. It takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 and half hours to visit.
1st time. My daughter and friend were excited to attend the museum. Enjoyed the displays. Were taking pictures to show those friends at college.STAFF LADY working at the mattress: VERY RUDE and unprofessional!
Great little South Beach spot wait was not bad girl was very attentive and very helpful in and out in about 20 minutes moderately priced for South Beach.. parking is very limited but for a quick in-and-out you can park in the alley in the middle I will definitely try again
The Bass museum is a contemporary art museum the museum has galleries, a cafe, and a museum shop. They have various artistic works on display at the galleries, and also has 2 small theatres that run art films. The exhibit/ films change every six months. The exhibits are very interesting, and innovative, and somehow portrays the culture and atmosphere of miami. The museum admission fee was 10$ per person (free if you are a Miami resident). But the museum gallery is way too small. I walked through the entire gallery in just a few minutes. I wish the gallery was bigger with more things to see. The ladies that work there as security guards were very rude to us multiple times in that same visit.
The building is renovated art basil, w spacious imaginative galleries featuring a multimedia mix of postmodernism. Exhibits have a comic twist Located in the heart of South Beach. Dont forget to visit the renovated public Library next door.
Small museum. REALLY enjoyed the exhibits and art films. Fun, thought provoking and creative. This is all contemporary art. Highly recommend, even for some children.
Art is very subjective. In my opinion, good st is something that evokes a conversation, whether you love it or you hate it. I think bad art is art where you leave feeling indifferent. I thought the installations were cool. They werent really to my taste or liking, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt check it out for yourself.
It’s a nice place to visit. Good exhibitions every so often. Please support here. We deserve a world class local museum.
The Museum was as interesting as any small art space we’ve seen. Trisha was amazing. She even made my 80 year old aunt who hasn’t gone to a museum since high school love art.
What an amazing museum. The current exhibits are thought provoking, well executed and some are just cute! The guards/guides are so very knowlegable and friendly, a special shout out to Cory on the second level, who made the Paola Pivi exhibit extra enjoyable. We have a new friend in South Beach!
We saw the cafe, the hallways... big picture drawn by 3 year old where is art???? Waist of time. I could not describe my disappointed after visiting it. 2 junky museum in 2 days! The broad and the bass. Sucks!
Im sorry, except for a few cool art works here, most of them honestly looked like trash. I am happy I was able to get half off with my student discount.
My boys and I call it the marshmallow Rocks. It was cute to walk by.
Great use of $10! The exhibits are very interesting and entertaining. The staff of the Museum are also very kind and helpful. Highly recommend!
Amazing and very knowledgeable staff!
A place for modern day artist with revolutionary Ideas and unlimited creativity. LOVE THE BASS
Disappointed... I used to go years ago so not sure what happened. The first floor has two small exhibition rooms that are awesome, after that unfortunately nothing. After inquiring I was told theyre working on more. In and out in 15 min.
Well located. great to enjoy a good time.
After being all over the world and dozens of galleries I can honestly say this is pretty embarrassing. An entire building dedicated to a few large installations that look like they were done by children or the mentally ill. Plan on staying about ten minutes and thats if you really linger. Should be free for everyone or at most a few dollars, not the ten per person we paid. Youre time would be better spent looking at the free murals in the art district. Save yourself time, money and disappointment.
Very precious small modern art museum. Very interesting installations. Well done, food very nice in little cafe.
There is a lot of space and nice architecture but its too dull. The elevator is big and nice but it takes like, 30 seconds just to get to the second floor and it takes like 15 seconds going down the stairs to the first floor!
Great space. Entrance is on the East side facing Collins Avenue
Not only were the exhibitions great, the security guards were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Be sure to say hi to Cory in the second floor galleries; he knew everything about the art!
Such a rip off. There is no real art here. They had an exhibit with 3 old air conditioners, two hot plates and two pots. On top of that, security guards are following and staring at you. Really weird and not worth the money. Don’t bother going to this museum if you want to call it that.
THIS MUESUM IS MISLEADING THE WEBSITE MADE ME THINK IT WOULD BE EXCITING...THEY HAVE NOT UPDATED THERE WEBSITE TO WHATS GOING ON CURRENTLY IN MUESUM. THERE WAS NOT MANY THINGS TO SEE. DEFINITELY CLEAN ENVIRONMENT THE STAFF WAS NICE. BUT AS FAR AS THERE THINGS TO DO AND SEE THERE WAS NOT MUCH. MY 14 YEAR OLD WAS BUMMED AFTER VISITING THIS MUESUM
Interesting collection of modern art, many pieces are interactive meaning you can touch them & interact with them. Beautiful location & building!
Lovely museum and grounds. We spent about 45 minutes and enjoyed the mix of contemporary and Renaissance art.
Favorite musuem on the beach ✨😘
A good small museum to visit with a respectable modern art collection. Trish has an amazing level of knowledge about the art...hopefully youre lucky enough to be there when shes working.
Excellent museum, there were a lot of incredible exhibits, also, is a perfect place for kids to learn about this part of the history.
Great little art museum. Nice collection. Interesting exhibitions
Great place. Staff is not only friendly but well educated. Trisha told me everything about each piece at the exhibition room.
Its a quaint place with a very helpful and knowledgeable staff of people. They seem to take an active interest in the quality of the guests experience.
A jewel box of a museum! An impressive collection of old masters cohabiting with the latest and best in contemporary art in a coral stone building.
Cool gallery and only $5 with student ID. A little on the small side though, can be toured in 2 hours or less.
