I will drive the 30 mins away from my house to come here. I came in for the first time and was treated like I had been a regular for years. They showed a few different books for my grandson. Such a down to earth place!

This place is everything. They have the perfect selection, just enough without trying to be a big box book store. The people here are also amazing, they really make the place ... They make temendous recommendarions and are super knowledgeable about the right books for the right age.

The most splendid bookstore!! They have a wonderful selection with some absolute steals. Very affordable and I am very appreciative of their teacher discount so I can add some YA to my classroom. I love the way they have the store organized as well as their selection of unique gifts and local artists’ work. I have only been once and I bought a ton of books but I already can’t wait to go back.

I love this bookstore. Not only do they have a wonderful selection, but they can also special order and the books will arrive typically in a couple of days. I also have met some wonderful authors at book signings. They have some terrific book themed gifts as well including book lights, book themed socks and fun enameled pins. The staff is friendly and very helpful with terrific book recommendations. Worth the trip every time!

I bought books at Newstory for my young nephew. I enjoyed seeing visually so many African American books to choose from and the staff was very helpful!

This bookstore is a great downtown bookstore with wonderful displays for browsing. The owners are careful about safety, requiring all customers and employees to wear masks properly. Ive bought several books here, and when they didnt have a book, I was able to order seamlessly through their website. Not to mention, you can pick up a pizza next right next door, or a bottle of wine across the street. Mitten Word fits nicely into the downtown Marshall vibe. And the owners are responsive, friendly and willing to do what they can to help their customers. Thank you so much!

Very cozy, colorful, and friendly atmosphere. Albeit small, it presents a wonderful array of classics, nonfiction, and everything in between (both new & used) for those looking to stop in and find something interesting and affordable. The owner has an impressive history in managing and running bookstores, and it definitely shows in their selection of literature while also being cognizant of the times we live in at the moment. You have to wear a mask upon entry, but in September of 2020 that should already be a given for any frequented indoor business venture.All in all would recommend. Every community needs a good bookstore, and The Mitten Word Bookshop definitely fits the bill.

This gem is 40 minutes from my home and well worth the trip! Such a wide variety of books and cool gifts. The staff is so knowledgeable and welcoming. I highly recommend this book store.

This is a great bookstore with a helpful staff. They can help you find what you want and suggest other books you may enjoy off of other novels/series you have read. They are such a lovely addition to downtown Marshall and will order whatever you want if it is not in stock. I was thoroughly impressed with their customer service when I was there.

One of those homey feeling bookstores. Its small but has a great variety, and anything they dont carry they will happily order in for you. They have a lot of unique things made by artists, and every time I stop in I see something new. Employees are all extremely kind and helpful. Ill be shopping here often.

Every time I go into town this is one of my stops. I love books so I usually come away with a couple. Great selection of new and used books and a cute kids section in the back. Staff are super helpful and you can bring in your own books to trade for a discount on future purchases! I am also thankful for the stores policy of mask wearing and using hand sanitizer at this time. It’s nice to be able to shop whilst feeling safe. Thank you!

Walked in expecting to find good books, instead I was met by an employee telling me my mask had to go over my nose, so I walked out. Im not getting carbon dioxide poisoning just to support your business, and I would much rather shop at big box stores than here, which is sad because I love small businesses. Will also tell the great people of Marshall not to shop here either every chance I get.

Everything you’d want in a small town book store! I’ve been hearing about this cool store from several Marshall Neighbors, so I finally stopped in to check it out. What a treat! We are all avid readers in my family! We prefer holding a book over digital reading and long missed going to browse for new adventures during this pandemic. Then came the buzz of The Mitten Word Bookshop! My parents live in Marshall, MI and must take exposure to COVID extremely seriously due to underlying conditions. This is one of the very few places they are SAFE and I cannot fairly express how much I appreciate that! Thank you to the owners for taking care of the community and treating my parents as they would their own. A+ service! The Mitten will always be our 1st choice!

Tom and Kimberly Batterson have taken over ownership of The Mitten Word Bookshop and are doing a fantastic job, offering a variety of new and used books for all ages. They live in Calhoun County and support other local businesses. They are happy to fill orders if they dont have what you want in stock. During this difficult time to run a small business they are keeping customers and staff as safe as possible by asking customers to use hand sanitizer which they provide, and making sure everyone wears a mask (which is the law). They also offer curbside pickup. This store is a wonderful local resource and I feel very safe shopping there. I highly recommend it!

This is a warm & welcoming bookstore. The book variety is wide and offers many books that support human rights and serve as excellent educational tools for both myself and my children. The childrens area has recently been spruced up and is very cozy. In addition to books, they also have a variety of artwork, book themed merchandise, and fair trade chocolates. The owners are incredibly accommodating and will order any book that you are looking for that is not currently in their 15,000+ book stock. I HIGHLY recommend this shop and supporting this independent family-owned bookstore.ALSO, kudos to the owners and employees who really stepped up to meet the need for continued education and reading during COVID. Your health practices, curbside pick-up, and shop by appointment options supported the customers while also taking everyones health and safety into high consideration. This is a Lovely book shop. The proprietors are welcoming and helpful. The books are well organized.There is a good selection of new and used book for all ages and interests. I enjoyed the many unique books about Michigan and its residents. Its a charming book shop.
