Absolutely the worst service Ive ever experienced! I give one star because that is the lowest available. His turnaround time is outrageously long because he is constantly stopping production to do other things. Not only did I receive my family heirloom instruments back not repaired and in worse condition than when I sent them, but one of them was physically damaged while in his possession, the shipping container was undamaged. He refused to give a refund and now I have to pay someone else to fix what he couldnt and repair the damage he caused. Hubris alone does not qualify you as an expert George.
Having followed various SPAH Harmonica Gatherings / Conventions around the last 20+ years, I arrived at point of needing some work (tune-up and restoration ) on two Hohner Chromatic Harmonicas and a Hohner Diatonic. Dr. Miklas was the only choice being recommended from many accomplished musicians in the SPAH community. Turn around time was very efficient in getting the needed repairs, even in the age of Covid, shipping and communications were top notch. All three now perform to a very high level I never thought I would hear again.Thank You George....Ill be sending off some more needed repair work shortly in the new year.
I have been a custom for years and I am 100% satisfied with everything. George is kind, professional and a a great person all over. I recommend George to anybody hands down!
I’ve known George for more than 40 years, and he’s the only one my husband EVER lets work on his harmonicas. No one knows the harmonica, inside and out better or, works with more love and care than George!
George has repaired a Hohner Six Sided Tremelo for me. Did a nice job. I have purchased several Top Of The line Hohner Harmonicas from George. Some beyond my playing abilities. I like to play and collect harmonicas. Just a fun hobby. George has been very helpful when I requested information. I am so old I can remember Jerry Murad and the Harmonicats from the 50s. Always wanted to try playing some of those big ones. Found out I cant play em,, but without Georges assistance I never would have known! Even sent George a Hohner I got from my brother which was my Grandfathers, Im sure over a 100 yrs. old and in a sad state. Hoping for restoration as a family heirloom. Id trust Dr. George with any Ive got!
I have another for George. When we had an indoor flooding issue, George took the time to drive all the way to my home (on Long Island, NY) to review, appraise and write out a damage report for my Insurance Company. I cant imagine anyone else who would do this! For some reason I cant find my first review--so will add it here: George was the ONLY harmonica repair person in the US who would take on the responsibility of opening it up to see why my then brand new Suzuki Melodion was out of tune. It was their newest model with the built-in electronics, so was very tricky to attempt to fix. We were both willing so he went ahead --during a GSHC Festival (on his own time, btw) and somehow not only tuned the recalcitrant High C, but then had to retune every C and then every note! Hed never played this particular instrument before...during the fix fell in love with it and later acquired his own. I videotaped his step-by-step procedure and he was meticulous. I couldnt be happier with his work).Anyone finding fault might not realize just how few harmonica repair technicians there are in the US - and how filled their schedules are and how long the lines since many of them repair the chromatics and diatonics of working professional musicians who need their instruments immediately. The photos I saw of that dented Hohner chromatic was done by someone playing it very hard over years (many of us have seen so many squeezed like this by hard players), and certainly not by George Miklas. Perhaps the owner overlooked what he thinks of as damage when mailing it in? Just my .02 cents.
