The owner is very personable & doesnt make you feel pressed to make a purchase. He allows you to take your time looking at everything. Will be back!
This is the best antique store I have ever been to; hands down. The proprietor is a very knowledgeable and friendly sort. The selection is unequaled in my experience. Outstanding furniture, books and art. There is an emphasis in English Colonial America. Well worth the visit. I always find something I want to own.
Great place always go there first owner is genius when comes to antiques and Federal period collections. Prices are reasonable and will work with you. Have purchased many items from Jim over the years. Enjoy your experience there.
This is a great shop! The labels on the items are really well written descriptions. And be careful if you are just looking you may end up buying something that you had been looking for and did not know it:) Jimmy is the real deal.
It seems that more and more antique shops I discover these days offer a variety country rustic and completely mediocre items which just happen to be from a generation or two ago. Items discovered in Grandmas basement and brought in to generate some cash. Federal House Antiques on Main Street in Lynchburg, VA is like walking in to a museum where the items are for sale and can be yours. The first time I walked in here, I had a great conversation with the owner and he graciously gave me an extensive overview on Sandwich glass works. I have learned more on subsequent visits, and I can say he really knows a lot about antiques and I would recommend this establishment if you are looking for authentic items with historical gravitas.
Owner is very nice and honest about his products.
The owner is very friendly and has a great selection!
Real antiques. Knowledgeable staff. Great books.
Without doubt the best antique shop in the region and one of the top five antique shops I have ever visited around the world. The shop is filled with an unmatched collection of early American goods, from pewter and silver to requisite furniture. Many items date to the early 1800s and late 1700s. The proprietor has a wealth of knowledge and is extremely kind. His prices are unrivaled — I offered him more for an item, and he wouldn’t take it.
We stopped by this store about a half hour before their posted closing time. The door was locked, but there was a sign saying to please ring the bell, so we did. The owner came down and let us in. He was very nice, and knowledgeable about antiques in general and the items in his store. I purchased two items, which he gave me a great price on. He was kind enough to take great care in packaging my items so that they would not get damaged on my way back to Tennessee. One helpful thing to know is that he does not take credit cards, but he did take a personal check instead.
Very fine antique shop!!Excellent items!Big Jim
The owner Jimmy Medley has spent his entire life dealing in period antiques. He is both knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. Dog lover too!
Loved it very nice antiques and very knowledgeable
What a spectacular hidden gem in downtown Lynchburg. Each item is selected by the owners and has a detailed history attributed the authenticity of a piece. The owners live above the shop and if youre interested in a piece theyll work with your schedule and budget.
Owner clearly has a love and knowledge of antiques, but not sure he actually wants to sell anything based on prices - little steep comparatively, but it was fun to browse. Lots of books.
Im very disappointed because this has bern twice that we made a trip from Danville,Virginia because under website it states they are open until 4pm on Sunday to find the place closed and will NOT make the trip again....To run a business like this then the correct time should be posted.Done with this place.
