Chris came out and fixed a flat tire on my Vanmoof E-Bike. It was a tricky job as there were a lot of proprietary elements. Chris was very clear with what he would need to do in order to repair it and asked all the right questions before arriving in order to be as efficient as possible. He took a very thorough, systematic approach and has incredible attention to detail with the bikes. The bike looks and rides brand new now. I bought a new bike recently (Retrospec Beaumont 7 Speed) and needed to have it built to safety specifications. Chris was amazing and super informative while he was building my bike! He made sure to go into detail about aspects of the bike in case certain situations arise, even showed me the best way to get on the bike to make sure that I don’t get fatigued during my commute. You can tell he knows what he’s doing and takes a lot of pride and care into his work and will make sure that you’re bike is safe and well taken care of! This is a belated but glowing review for Chris. Based on other great Yelp reviews, I hired Chris to assemble a bike I had purchased – and the bike turned out to have a flaw in its brake system. Chris went above and beyond in explaining and documenting the issue, and helping me deal with the bike maker. It’s rare to encounter someone so knowledgeable, patient, and conscientious. From beginning to end, he was also quick to respond to emails and texts. While he was working on the bike, he also wore a mask the whole time, and was attentive to social distancing. I highly recommend him.

This dude fixed my fixie! Not only did he fix it, he tuned up, hot-rodded the tires, and generally made it go from only bike path, to city-ride! It was awesome. My 10- year old son had some issues with his mountain bike & I was simply too busy (& lazy) to take to a shop......thats where Chis & Hoopty Bikes came into the picture. I really don’t have an excuse to not have left a review sooner, especially when it’s not like we all have such a busy social life currently. But enough of that, onto the man, the myth, the legend himself, okay I kid but the guy is beyond fantastic and knowledgeable. I mean, it makes sense, he was a professional BMX rider, and I don’t mean the guys out in the woods, I mean, endorsed and sponsored type. If it wasn’t for a savage polar bear attack during the X-Games in Siberia, he’d probably be a playable video game character. He knows bikes, inside and out is what I’m saying. He’s like a savant of sorts when you watch him start to work. Leans in, listens to the bike, almost as if the bike is whispering to him... Yeah, the Bicycle Whisperer...I really appreciated his demeanor, his knowledge and all around pleasantness. Bought my bike a couple of years ago from a shop. It got seasonal use but never get right. I just had Hoopty Bikes come to my house this weekend and it was great. Chris is amazing! My boyfriend and I know very little about bikes, so we had been having a hard time getting one of our road bikes installed onto a new Wahoo smart trainer. I texted Chris a couple nights ago to request service for proper installing it after we had trouble with chain slippage on the higher gears. I sent a video of the problem, and he answered back pretty quickly that he could swing by in a couple hours to help us. He gave us thorough info about any terms of service, his rate, payment method, ETA, etc.Chris arrived on time and immediately knew what to do to fix our issue (basically we were using the wrong cassette, which had come with the trainer but didnt fit our bike). He brought the right cassette we needed, and an hour later, our bike was properly installed on the trainer. Chris tested out the bike throughly and sent us on our merry way.On top of all that, he was super nice and did his best to educate us on what he did and how to care for the bike going forward. Great dude, great service.

Called and Chris answered immediately. Came out the same day and did a fabulous job of adjusting and correcting a number of issues on my new bike. Had Chris over to do a hydraulic brake pad replacement and a general tuning on my ebike. He was incredibly thorough and did great work - even called the mfg before the appointment to make sure he understood the bike well when he arrived. Turned out that the gears on my relatively new bike were loose and he was able to fix this issue as well. But not only did he fix the issue but he contacted the ebike company to let them know about the gear issue and a design flaw with the rear part of the frame. When I contacted the mfg to discuss having them pay of the additional required service they were happy to do (and mentioned they had already spoken with Chris so understood the issue and that it was clearly under warranty) AND they’re now sending me new back wheels and motors for both of my ebikes that will address this issue going forward. Really nice to work with someone who takes so much pride in their work. My other ebike will need a tuning soon so will look forward with working with Hoopty again.

We had 4 bikes in various states of disrepair, the worst being my wifes and mine, which had been outside for about 4 years. They were so covered in rust I thought for sure they were goners. Chris did excellent work on my bike! It is better than when I bought it brand new! He is very knowledgeable about all things concerning bikes and is super friendly about sharing his wealth of experience and expertise. I called to set up an appointment as I was finishing up work on Friday, brought the bike in, and he made quick work of well over a year’s worth of rust and residue from exposure. Within a couple short hours, I was back in the saddle. It used to scrape and grind and creak while riding, but after a visit from Hoopty, this bike rides so smooth, it is like a dream and I don’t know why I didn’t take it into him sooner!Highly recommend! He brings everything he needs in his van and wont stop until hes made the bike something he would ride. He has such passion for the work. Hes talented, professional, respectful, and fair. I had to tip him because for the quality of the work and the time it took him (4 bikes), I felt his price was too low. I cant recommend him enough!

They are honest about whether you actually need to pay for repairs or not. They are knowledgeable and have great advice for everything related to bikes. Have come here twice and had a great experience both times!

Chris brought my old, beat up mountain bike back to life quickly, I couldnt be happier with the work he did. He fixed my disc brakes, derailleur, switched out cables and much more in no time. He did not make me feel stupid about not knowing bike anatomy or in identifying the problem, like this other bike service. He just warmly asked me for a few pictures and came to my house immediately. He creatively found parking in a part of Los Ángeles that is so difficult to find parking. On top of all that, he was warm, friendly and so funny. He serviced my bike expertly and offered extra services on top of that, suggesting to move back the seat to open it up more ergonomically. He also took professional angled photos of my bike that I love so much that I texted them for fun to friends.
