I’ve never been followed out of a store while a proprietor yells at me, until today. I’ve never been told to “wait till I’m done” to ask questions about a product I’m about to buy, until today. I’ve never been sneeringly told, “if you would just let me explain it to you” in a way that makes me feel like my patronage to a shop is a burden, until today. I knew I had specific questions, and waited 30 minutes while two separate customers entered after my family and were helped first. I was fine waiting because it was going to be a big investment for our family and I hoped someone knowledgeable would be patient and help while I attempted to figure out all of the things that went into home brewing. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it here.Again, let me reiterate because I am honestly astonished at what just happened. I have never, ever, had a shop owner follow me outside and yell at me as I am attempting to put my child into her car seat. Until today.If you’re a novice brewer, you could take the owner’s advice he announced to the entire neighborhood and, “just read a book on it and buy online.” However, I suggest you continue to shop small and buy from one of the many other home-brew suppliers.

Owner is just awesome. His starter kits are amazing. Is it the cheapest in the area? Yes, because the next closest one is in Boulder. Ill happily return and support local business.

Owner is super nice and very helpful. He set me up with the perfect yeast for my first brew and had some good advice for how to do it. Also, theres really good selection for such a small place.

Were brewing again! Our first couple of attempts were fantastic. The shop offers a wide selection of kits and Mark helped us pick the perfect one (single hop IPA). Each kit comes with thorough recipe instructions and everything we needed to make the beer. They also sell all the gear needed if its your first time. Great customer service, this batch was ordered during Covid times and we were able to do a curbside pickup within minutes of calling. So excited to be brewing a great beer and to work with Mark to find one that we would like.

Theres a reason the Bald Brewer has stood the test of time when others have failed so often in this town. Marks level of service and expertise are unmatched. Hes a genuine guy who loves to share his craft and does everything he can to help his customers. I cant imagine supporting any other homebrew store as long as I live in the area.

Mark has always been super helpful coaching me in my decisions from when I was starting making hard ciders to helping me construct custom beer recipes when I moved to all grain brewing. Again another great local resource in our town.

I dont usually bother to leave reviews, but Mark is the best! A few months ago, we went in to get some basic supplies for brewing mead. Not only did Mark have everything we could have possibly needed, wanted, and more - he took the time to talk to us about the different possibilities and processes of making the mead. He helped us choose a minimal amount of equipment, keeping it simple and not trying to sell us on things we didnt need. His shop is well stocked, hes super friendly and knowledgeable, and he didnt mind when we called back later to ask more questions about the process. Never shopping anywhere else for brewing supplies. Mark takes a lot of joy and pride in his shop, and it sure shows. He has a great selection of products, and hes more than happy to spend as much time as needed to work with his customers to figure out what theyll need to create whatever brew they have in mind. Ive been home brewing for about 4 years and this is my main supply store. Mark is very knowledgeable about all things beer and wine making. Hes got more in stock than other local stores and Im always amazed when I ask about what I think is an obscure or rare item and sure enough, hes got it. I highly recommend the Bald Brewer.

We, too, were first time brewers, and decided to buy our ingredients from bald brewer. The owner is indeed a damn cool guy, with quite the unique sense of humor. Real helpful and efficient though. The selection was a bit sparse, considering it was a tiny store, but sufficient nonetheless. I came in with a list of ingredients, and left with everything I needed, but in most cases substitutions had to be made (he had close alternatives for all my specialty grains, as well as the yeast and hops I asked for. Example: asked for crystal malt 40L, he had 45L). As for price, I havent been to any other brew stores so I cant make specific comparisons, but I did spend a bit more than I expected to based on what I found prices to be online. All in all, however, Bald Brewer is a fantastic store, and the only legitimate option anywhere in longmont or boulder.

This place is AWESOME!!! The owner has helped me pull together half a dozen recipes now and everyone of them is spot on. You can not beat the customer service anywhere.

After years of shopping, I thought I should review, especially after a disappointing visit to the local competition. Bald Brewer has been a mainstay in BoCo for good reason - simplicity. He has what you need in stock, without 20k square feet to show off empty shelves. Plus youre likely to be able ask the owner/expert questions, rather than a distracted clerk. He outlasted Hop to It and Lafayette Homebrew - two of my other former loves. I gave the other longmont guys a try last month, because I try to spread the wealth around to help keep multiple options in business. Sticker shock sent me back to the BB. I picked up ingredients for at least 20% less.

You can read other reviews that critique Marks knowledge and stock and price and friendly advice, so I wont add to that. But heres my advice: When you come into Marks store, if you are in a bit of a hurry you should maybe try to find a time when there are others in the store. Whys that? Because Mark is a fascinating guy who has traveled to anyplace in the world that you have, and you are going to spend a lot of very pleasant time swapping yarns. Galapagos? Iceland? New Zealand? Cloud forest of Ecuador? Kathmandu? Hes been there! Can probably point you to a favored restaurant in Queenstown NZ or Keflavik. If there are others in the store -- well then, hes all business to get everyone taken care of. I suppose you might be able to make a solo dash in to grab a drilled or undrilled carboy stopper and dash out, but whats the point? Brewing is inherently a social activity, and Mark epitomizes that character of the hobby.

Mark takes great pride in his store and cares about his customers. He mans The Bald Brewer on his own with help from friends now and then. He is very supportive of a homebrew clubs and competitions. He knows what substitutions to make when requested gains, hops or yeast strains are not available. I have seen him take time with all levels of brewers and wine makers; especially new ones. He takes the stress out of jumping into this new hobby and helps them relax. I want to keep my money in Longmont where my hobby is concerned and if I dont receive the service I expect, I say something to the business at the time. All businesses need feed back on customer service so they can serve us better especially ones that are independently owned because there is so much at stake, in fact, I believe it is welcomed for that very reason.

I started making wine last year and found Marks shop via the internet. Living in Longmont, it was great to be able to find a shop that I could support local business. Mark is extremely knowledgeable (I wish I had a tenth of his knowledge of winemaking) in wine making and beer brewing. I went in not knowing anything, other than reading online, about wine making and Mark took his time to explain the kits to me, his recommendations, and if I had any problems to let him know and hed help. Since that time (over a year ago), I have bought 4 kit wines from Mark and whenever I have run into problems, I have called him, emailed him or visited the shop and he has always taking the time to give me good advice and recommendations as to what to do. I have been in the shop many times and listened to how he takes the time to help his customers; couldnt ask for anyone better than Mark. Good Job Mark!!!
