Especially liked the reading selection for our youth. Touching on subjects not readily found in mainstream book stores.

Owner was welcoming. Smart selection of social thought & justice and books, literature, California & social art. Purchased a beautiful book on the history of California art. Particularly liked the forward thinking children’s area. So happy i stopped in. Nice to have an independent neighborhood book shop for special gifts.

This pandemic has changed my view how every dollar I spend is a vote to the kind of community I want to live in.I found Page against the machine local to my apartment. They have an active website and social media presence.I emailed inquiring about a special order book through the official Page against the machine website. I wanted to support a small business outside of Barnes and Nobles and Amazon.Small businesses have been hit hard and are always struggling to keep a float compared to bijillion dollar companies. The book had nothing to do with the theme of Page against the Machine but I wanted to at least try.Within a day or so, I got an immediate detailed response from Chris. Chris told me it was possible, how the whole process of special order books worked, when his distributor worked, and one of the books was not ready for release just yet.I finally got to meet Chris, he’s got great taste in music with Rage Against the Machine inspired store name and he had a Devo Tshirt on. 80’s music is the best. Chris was easy to talk to and super friendly.I was able to browse through his store. Great selection of books from new to old. They were all organized and super clean. There was even an exhibition of civil rights posters.Parking is a little tough but you can find it around the residential areas. The book arrived and I was able to pick it up when I was available during business hours.I got to pay in cash and left super happy with my experience. Thanks Chris, keep moving forward.

A bit off the beaten path. Book selection is definitely niche, but theres a lot of material that would otherwise be hiding in the darker corners of other shops. Wicked friendly dude working the counter when I was there.

Visited for the first time to attend a book reading. It was FANTASTIC. Really great selection of progressive literature from across many genres, awesome art on the walls (that visitors could engage with!), and I could have stayed to chat with Chris the owner for another hour. Such a gem of a place. Cant wait to visit again.

Wanted to support a local bookstore so I did a special order for a book I’ve been looking to purchase. Chris was so helpful and polite throughout the whole process. I can’t wait to attend future events and I’ll continue to be a customer.

Attended a wonderful Labor Day day of readings yesterday, Monday Sept 2nd. Wonderful crowd of poets and audience, most were both. Great books, great atmosphere, super clean, and the owner was so generous as to provide tons of food and drink. Wonderful cultural niche in Long Beach. Wish I lived In in this city; I would certainly visit this a warm and friendly bookstore often. It has a large selection of unusual books. Lots of poetry books! The labor gathering ended yesterday with a visitors offering, in a beautiful baritone voice, of songs from the labor movement in this country in the early 20th century. Support unions!
