I come back here every time Im in Lancaster, this coffee shop is in a class of its own. Noticeably high-quality coffee, and prepared by the baristas with care and attention. Great atmosphere and location. This is the place to go if you simply want to enjoy your coffee.I recommend the mocha, best Ive ever had.
Enough has been written about the top notch coffee served here that saying anything else about it would just be redundant. Check out Passenger for the people who work there. They are some of the friendliest, kindest, and most knowledgeable individuals working in any business in Lancaster. You cant help but leave feeling a little warmer and perkier, and its not just the coffee that will make you feel that way.
This place comes in the specialist category just on quality of coffee and how well they prepare it. The baristas know exactly what they were doing unlike many other psuedo places that try hard but lack qualified personnel. They being extremely friendly (without the regular barista smugness) is the cherry on the top. Top recommendation!!
Amazing people and an amazing place. Some of the best coffee Ive had from a coffee shop, and the selection of bagged coffee they have in stock was so unique, I couldnt choose. The baristas were a huge help and love to answer questions, and their cafe is open for limited dining inside, with outside seating as well. Single serve coffees, like reserve coffees are delicious and brewed using an aeropress, while iced and drop filter coffee are their incredible foundation roasts. Ive yet to try their espresso, but the chai and their pastries are fantastic as well. Highly recommend if youre into coffee and in the area!
Hands down some of the best coffee in Lancaster. I live in Pittsburgh but this is always my first stop when I come into town. The staff is so kind and welcoming which just adds to the overall experience!
Dont come here if you want to put cream and sugar in your coffee. Also, not for groups.
Excellent coffee. The biscuit and cinnamon bun were amazing!
The staff are friendly and really know their coffee. The espresso is delicious, and their beans will make your morning home brew shine. Plus, the strawberry rhubarb pop-tarts are amazing.
Great ambience, friendly staff, stellar drinks. The aesthetic is laid-back classy, with abundant natural light from large storefront windows, and the music selection (primarily jazz) is perfect for the space. Unfortunately there’s no WiFi, but I’ve not docked a star as I think that’s an intentional choice, meant to inspire conversation and interpersonal connection (note, that’s just speculation). All in all, great experience.
I always stop at Passenger Coffee when Im heading to Ohio from my family members how in Maryland. I think passenger stands out among coffee places in Lancaster and PA through roasting some of the most notable and most expensive coffees in the world, and they do it well. And they are always working toward making excellent coffee available for any budget, even poor folk like me who spend their hard earned money on good coffee. Not only is it the excellent coffee that makes me take an hour detour, but its the staff at Passenger who actively engaged me and took a genuine interest in me and all guests who I witnessed buy coffee. I will continue to make the hour detour when Im heading home from visiting my family to get some excellent coffee.
Wonderful local cafe that sources and roasts their own coffee around the corner at the roastry. Amazing coffee and tea selection with a variety of brew methods very knowledgeable staff. If you love specialty coffee this place is a must if you are in Lancaster. Check the website for tickets to a public cupping if you really want an immersive experience in coffee education.
Great coffee and atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Passenger Coffees reputation in Lancaster precedes itself. I dont need to sing the praises of this outstanding roaster. I will say that folks traveling from outside the region will want to place this at the very top of their list of coffee houses to visit when in-town.
The Carmo blend coffee is hands down the best coffee I have ever had. Ordered online and it ships fast and coffee is fresh. Also ordered the Divino Nino and that was delicious as well. The best part about the coffee is how smooth it finishes. I will typically add just a small splash of cream to smooth out other coffees. Not needed here. Cant wait for my next order to come in the mail!
I am a tea drinker, zero coffee for me. I ordered Jade tea at Passenger today. Its good, but nothing to write home about. This small cup of tea was $6! Hot tea is usually less than $2 for any size at the cafes in Lancaster. The service and atmosphere was good, the tea was good, the price was steep. I would have given more stars if I felt I had gotten my moneys worth.
This is the best coffee shop in town. It is good people doing a good thing, serving ethically sourced coffee and supporting the Lancaster community and the farmers they work with worldwide. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and the shop is cozy. If you are looking for a great cup of locally roasted coffee, look no further!
I haven’t had the opportunity to visit the cafe but would like to in the future. I was introduced to Passenger coffee when I was at a different restaurant a few years ago and had hands-down the best coffee I had ever had in my life. When I asked if they had any beans available for purchase, the barista just started raving about Passenger. They only used Passenger beans and she immediately referred me to their website. Their subscription service is amazing. I have tried so many varieties of beans than I normally would have passed on because “I wasn’t sure,” and typically play it safe with a blend. The only bad thing about Passenger is your palate gets use to extraordinary coffee very fast and almost everything else that is easily available tastes like garbage. My only recommendation (if anyone from Passenger reads these) - I would love if I there was more educational information about the coffee I receive each month. Even if it didn’t come with the coffee, it would be cool to have a link, email, etc that I could go to and learn more about each one.
Very nice store and employees.
Great coffee and the staff is both helpful and kind. Love this company and my fiancee and I go there every chance we get!
Coffee is so good I mail order.
I love this place. The quality of service is exceptional and the baristas are awesome. They interact so well with customers and are super patient when you have questions. They take time to help you make well informed choices on their menu and they have such good knowledge of their coffee and tea. I also like the fact that the menu covers a broad price range, so whether you want a regular coffee or feel like spending more on an experience, youll be able to find great coffee and tea. The space is clean and the atmosphere is even better. I definitely recommend this place.
This is a spot if you love coffee. They have single origin coffee that they will make for you in an aero press, and whole bean ready to buy! If you’re looking for a Starbucks experience this isn’t it, but if you are ready for some really well made coffee it’s great!
Super personable and friendly! As a non-coffee drinker, he was super willing to answer my questions and explain processes to me. So awesome. Its wonderful that they sell coffee that supports equality in the industry. Will def be coming back.
Probably one of the nicest places to be downtown, at least from an outsiders view! Its on the small side, but the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxing and modern, the staff is stellar, and the drinks are great! Prices are on the higher side, but not bad.
Great selection of single origin beans for my AM caffeine needs. Chai and Matcha options as well. Cool aesthetic on top of all that.
Great coffee at normal prices. This place is a winner. Interesting food choices, clean and bright dining area, friendly staff with great uniforms. You can meet for morning catch-ups, serious discussions, whatever. Although there are no booths, there is a pleasant white noise that will mask your conversation. Very nice addition to downtown Lancaster. Great coffee shop if youre looking for one. They also sell coffee beans.
Great coffee and very nice staff! They gave great recommendations for things to do in the area for our visit.
My favorite roaster and also favorite coffee bar. Super helpful baristas and coffee experts.
Iced Mocha was nice and strong! Beautiful establishment. One of few places downtown opened on a Sunday.
Great latte, and nice minimalist aesthetic in the shop. The vegan chocolate chip cookie was delicious too! The only downside is that there isnt wifi available since I was hoping to get a little work done online.
One of my favorite places to grab coffee and a pastry! I frequent Passenger’s King Street location and always have such pleasant conversations with the baristas there. Would highly recommend!
Excellent coffee. Very friendly barista with solid expertise. Loved it, went back the next morning.
Came here because I read an article that said it was the best coffee in PA. It was fine. If I was reviewing based on coffee alone I’d give it a 3.If you’re someone who’s not obsessed with coffee like I am, you’ll probably love it. The customer service was wonderful and the decor is very cozy and modern. You won’t be disappointed but probably not wowed either.
Got the authentic Japanese green tea and really enjoyed it! The atmosphere is really cool! Great place to grab coffee or tea.
Serving serious coffee, their espresso was a lighter roast with some sour notes. Recommended with milk but not straight. Brewed coffee was very good. Great service and a tasty offering of pastries to accompany the coffee. Bottled cold brew is available for purchase: black, or with milk & lightly sweetened.
I cannot overstate how unique Passenger’s approach to specialty coffee is, or how much they are truly masters of their craft. I am not aware of any other roaster cafes that have a menu with dozens of coffees to choose from (some harvested several years ago and frozen as green coffee) on any given day. Being able to make this business work in Lancaster is a testament to their wide appeal. While some of the reserve lot or competition-winning coffees on the menu command a premium price (and understandably so, they’re well worth it), there’s something here for everyone. Whether you want to pay $2 or $20 for a cup of coffee, you’ll receive something special. The staff were incredibly friendly, and I can tell they are enthusiastic about what they do. I’m very glad I made the trip out to Passenger in person, it was a great experience.
My fiance and I had two lattes, his was regular and mine was the mocha. The mocha has real cocoa in it. I like it! But others who are used to a sweeter mocha might not. The shop is bright and airy too. We both really like it.
Best coffee in Lancaster. 🥇
Coffee is authentic and so are why employees. They really care about their product and love sharing their knowledge with you. If you enjoy finer coffee this is the spot for you!
True the food options are limited, and the pure-white and plain wood interior are...eh, the coffee itself has such a unique taste. They also sell their coffees for home brewing: make sure to ask them to grind it for you though if you dont have a grinder at home. Each trip into the city I pick up a bag here or at Prince Street, where they sell it too. Best. Coffee. In. The. State. (Possibly country but Im not a professional coffee critic. Is that even a job?)
The coffee is delicious! The spot is in a great location. It can come off a bit sterile for my liking, but I came here for the coffee and that did not disappoint. A must try place if youre a true coffee drinker.
Have visited this coffee shop numerous times and have had a great latte and cappuccino every time! Happy to see they have a variety of milk alternatives to choose from.
Excellent specialty shop in the heart of Lancaster. We tried a variety of drinks and they were all delicious. All the employees were knowledgeable and friendly. I definitely recommend going here if you are in Lancaster!
Really aesthetically pleasing coffee shop - more so than any other Ive been to. Clean modern materials, perfectly laid out flooring, high ceilings and spotless countertops. The coffee was very good, albeit at a high price for the size. The staff seemed competent and nice enough. Recommended.
Passenger has a beautiful cafe and roasts their own coffee. The environment was beautiful and had only a few patrons in the middle of the day. I had a pour over and an espresso, they were both great. A note for coffee lovers, this is a light roast
Fantastic staff, very helpful, knowledgeable, and helpful. Coffee options are varied and plentiful. They know their coffee and are happy to educate you in making a decision or just learning more about coffee. Food options were limited but quite delicious. Highly recommend if youre in town, however do not expect a 2 minute coffee, this is an experience.
We ordered an iced chai which was good, but not spectacular for the price. We also ordered an iced coffee. It was extremely acidic and bitter tasting. The atmosphere was minimalist and millennial chic. I felt like an outsider looking in while inside the establishment. If youre not a millennial with a disposable income, its probably not the place for you.
My favorite coffee shop in town. Theres a close second place, but passengers simple elegant atmosphere and very serious respect for the coffee edges out the competition. They also have their own roaster. Thats the real draw. Super talented roasters seem to have perfectly calibrated their treatment of the beans to pull all the flavors out of the beans.
Great coffee if your looking for a very well roasted and colourful flavour for black coffee. The have almond milk and lattes but no flavouring (such as carmel or mocha). Also have a very wide selection of teas that also are very flavorful as well.
Passenger Coffee is really a great experience and I fully recommend stopping by if you get a chance. The coffee, staff, and atmosphere are all excellent. Definitely a place to check out if you are in Downtown Lancaster and even if you arent- They have a great variety of coffees, though I would recommend splurging a little and trying some of their hand poured varieties.- I love visiting coffee places everywhere I go, but the friendliness and coffee acumen of the staff here are legitimately exceptional.- The atmosphere is bright and open and a great place for meeting people or just sitting down for a bit after checking out Central Market right next door.
Sinatra on a crisp sunday morning. What class and elegance.Passenger is 100 percent about quality and take pride in in cup of coffee! They are king of coffee from the east coast. You wont be disappointed if you like premium quality coffee!
If I could start a Passenger fan club, I would. Absolutely exceptional selection of coffees, and an absolutely exceptional staff. If you want to know more about anything they serve, just ask. Everything is selected by hand and with extreme care- the people at Passenger love coffee and they understand the experience of a great cup of coffee. Ive been a proud patron of Passenger since their first week, and I cant imagine how much of my money theyve gotten. I love this place- and you will too!Bonus points for the music selection- from Jazz to The National. its always a joy to listen to.
This is a must stop location every time I visit the city. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. You can learn a lot about coffee and enjoy a great cup while youre watching passers-by in downtown Lancaster City
Very nice atmosphere and very clean. The coffee is well crafted and tastes very good. They also have tea for those who arent necessarily in love with coffee.
I have visited Passenger twice from out of state and both visits have always exceeded my expectations. The shop is well designed and every detail has been thought through. Customer service is excellent and the baristas are always open to chat & suggest what to try. Being able to meet a member of the company that was not a barista was also a highlight and showed just how personable the staff are. Coffee is amazing and the craft is detailed followed through with excellence! The price is definitely worth the product, if anything we are paying a low price for the goods & services they offer!
Boutique style coffee shop with a limited menu of specialty coffee and teas. Also offers pastries. My cappuccino was authentic and tasted delicious...my only complaint was that it came in only one size - a 10oz cup. The specialty teas are pricey but the pastries are reasonably priced.
Nice, simple coffee and tea place. A little hard to find as it isnt labeled well. They also dont have WiFi.
Very upscale/craft coffee. The staff was very knowledgeable and happy to talk about all their coffees with anyone interested. They are very focused on being fair trade for their beans and local sourcing for their food
Great coffee, and great baristas. Ben provided an awesome experience for us!
Delicious drink selection. Great service. Espresso and tonic was fantastic. Beautiful inside and convenient location near Central Market. One of my favorite places in downtown Lancaster
An excellent place for coffee in Lancaster. The design is awesome and the coffee is perfect. It deserves far more than 5 stars. Love this place!
My favourite whenever Im travelling in the area. Great atmosphere. The staff is very friendly, with great attention to detail and interest in their craft.
Some of the best coffee in the country. You won’t eh disappointed by anything they serve.
Very friendly atmosphere and quick service. The baristas were very kind and helpful!
Had delicious Burundi Americano, pastries were tasty too. Paying for quality which we found well worth it
Great coffee - knowledgeable staff. Every time I go, I can count on someone helping me determine what I want to try. Awesome for any coffee consumers.
Worst espresso I’ve ever had. I couldn’t drink it so I gave it to someone else who said “this is absolutely disgusting”. We made one other person try it who opted to chug water after a sip. It didn’t taste like espresso (and I work at a coffee shop and have had countless shots of espresso in the past two decades). It was that bad. It appeared to have chunks in it. They stirred it with a spoon which is unnecessary for an iced espresso. I’m not sure if there was dairy on the spoon and that is why it had bits in the top. (I don’t drink dairy at all so I’d prefer they skip the complimentary stir.) It ended up in the trash can.
Favorite coffee in the area, staff will always point you in the right direction when buying beans.
Great service, awesome coffee and tea, extremely clean, and the perfect place to relax, meet a friend, read a book, or accomplish some work. In my opinion, they cannot get any better. Theyve won me over for life!
Minimalist coffee shop thats flooded with natural light. Great for sipping a single origin cup of coffee and people watching.
Too snobby for me. I drink black coffee. Only one option available at any point in time. Wife wanted caramel latte and was told.... We dont use syrups. If you are a coffee connoisseur, youll probably enjoy this. If you just want a simple afternoon coffee, or a delicious caffeinated drink... Keep walking.
Great modern place with unique coffee selections. Nice and quiet/casual and great meeting location.
A true hipster coffee shop in good ole Lancaster but amazingly the prices are too high. A pour-over in Lancaster PA should not exceed the price of a pour-over in New York or San Francisco. The coffee is the best in town but would be a mid-level option compared to Blue Bottle, Cafe Grumpy, Gimme! or any other third wave roaster in a bigger city.
They genuinely care to make the coffee good. The place is generally a little crowded on the weekend at the wrong times; but it’s sorta what you have to put up with for good coffee at popular times.
Coffee is incredible, staff is friendly and professional, well trained and knowledgeable. Fresh pastries, and a clean, relaxed atmosphere great for reading a book or just enjoying your brew. Great location, worth checking out.
A beautiful space and knowledgeable staff... not the kind of place you want to relax for hours, though. I recommend the cappuccino and the biscuit.
Great staff and space to grab a coffee drink. Every time I go in to buy coffee for home they have great recommendations. Love this company and team.
Love the subway tile and high ceilings, feels like a shop in dc. The drip coffee is excellent, best in town. The coffee is imported directly from farms around the globe by passengers themselves. Carl is the best.
Minimalist design, firm seating, clear menu- its all about the coffee here. We are admittedly coffee snobs, Chemex with an expensive grinder and scale...Passenger is our favorite place, and does coffee right. Ask about the small blue menu where you can choose specialty coffee from around the world; my husband and I love coming here, each picking from the blue menu, cleansing the palette with the sparkling water and tasting the flavor notes of the coffee. The teas are lovely, and the thin preparation matcha is delicious. The baristas are very knowledgeable and passionate about quality brewing.
Had this coffee brand in multiple shops. Everytime it was very sour tasting. Their espresso is overpowering sour flavor. Which in turn ruins Americanos, lattes and cappuccinos. I cant believe shops use this brand.
These guys know coffee and offer pour-over in Kalita wave, they also have a nitrogen tea that is ridiculously tasty and really brings out the flavor of the tea. Great shop atmosphere and their brew methods really bring out the flavor notes of their coffees. Cant wait to make it back.
