I ordered a small yellow layer cake w raspberry filling and buttercream icing for our 29th wedding anniversary. It was a last minute order and this beautiful small layer cake with really colorful flowers made of icing was ready for me the next day. It was gorgeous and oh my goodness, it was really, really good! I cant remember the last time I had layer cake this good!!! As for price, you pay for what you get. Its worth it to me to purchase a cake like this from a privately owned bakery. This is the first time I have ordered anything from this bakery and I am a very happy customer!0

When another baker cancelled on me at the last minute, Cakes By Karen came through in flying colors!!! The custom 4wheeler cake was a huge hit, and it was very tasty and moist! Thank you so much for saving the day! I will definitely use Cakes By Karen again!

Wow I was going to go here but by all these reviews maybe not. I did go in and talk with a lady and she was nice, my cousin recently purchased a cake from here and I enjoyed it but just because her cake was amazing doesn’t mean mine could be I don’t have money to waste if not what I want or pay for so I’m kind of scared so maybe I will pass! I ordered a German Chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday and the cake was delicious! It was a round cake that weighed about 6 lbs! Heavy for a cake but absolutely DELICIOUS! Thank you staff for making it a special cake for my husband! He loved it!Lori

WAY too overpriced!!! We paid $100 for 24 cupcakes and a smash cake for our babys 1st birthday. Over the phone she said they could make them into the shape of a #1. We specifically asked for a cupcake cake, pictured it looking like a cake with the butter cream covering all the cupcakes and the writing on it. Instead it was a sparse 1 that was what I couldve bought and shaped myself for $25! This was a grocery store bakery quality. I DO NOT recommend for something so simple. We will never use them again. Cant believe we paid over $100 for just this!

Stopped by yesterday to see if they had any cupcakes and how pricey they were. I bought an assortment of six at $2 each. That’s a very reasonable price. Each and every one was moist and delicious and the buttercream frostings were great. I’ll be back the next time I’m having family here. Service was also very good. Professional and friendly.

Horrible.Would NOT recommend if you are looking for professional detail.I paid $70.00 for a cake that looked like I made it myself, at home, after several drinks...So disappointing.I emailed them, with photos of all the smears and mistakes over a week ago, and still havent heard back.

I recently ordered a cake for my sons 8th birthday party. The cake tasted great, however it wasnt quite what I had asked or paid for. I paid extra for fondant and got frosting instead. The lines on the cake were not straight, and some parts of the brown and white were overlapping in places they shouldnt have. My son was happy with it so I didnt say anything, but for the money I paid I was expecting more quality work.

We ordered a Birthday pistachio cake for my sons 11th bday payed $60! For a simple butter cream cake with green food dye :( NO PISTACHIOS OR FLAVOR AT ALL! Not cool! So sad everyone was hyped up for a pistachio cake hardly any one ate it! On Tuesday, June 8 a lady was working and she was really rude.

Called to get information and to place an order but the lady sounded impatient and in a rush to get off the phone. It was 4pm and they closed at 5pm, and she reminded me of that 3 times even though I told her I didnt need anything right away. I politely said that maybe I should try somewhere else because she sounded impatient and rushed. She said, OK have a good day, goodbye and hung up. Wow.

It was easy to place an order and pay up front but we did not receive what we payed for.We asked for two colors pink and blue for all 25 cupcakes and 1 muffin cake. They didnt use the same color frosting as requested and they looked mismatched. They forgot the strawberry filling and didn’t put a yellow #1 as we requested and payed for.We have called them several times and we are always told that a manager isn’t available and one would call us back.Don’t waste your time or money.

We recently used them for our wedding cake In September. They had a good price for the size of cake we needed. The decoration came out beautiful and the cake was the best one I ever had. Would definitely recommend. They even were able to make a vegan cake for some of my vegan guests.

We placed our wedding cake with Karen just because my wifes mother ordered her cake from them over thirty years ago. We were initially unsure, but not only did Karen deliver everything the missus asked for, she went above and beyond with the overall details on the cake. This was a stunning display for the banquet and it received more attention than the bride and groom themselves (meaning us) lol. Great cake visually that actually tasted great as well. The guests demolished all of it in record time. Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, but our experience was the complete opposite and we believe we may have found a family tradition for ordering wedding cakes from Karen for many generations to come. Lady was so rude when my family and I walked in. She did not greet us hardly said one word to us were looking to order a birthday cake for our daughter first bday. She then proceeded to just stare at my 4 yr old non verbal son who is autistic because he was looking at all of her display. Her prices are ridiculous with the same quality cakes u can buy at Safeway and for cheaper also .My family and I will never come back. And I would not recommend!

Ive always ordered cakes and cupcakes from here and they are always a hit. You just have to know what you are looking for as far as the different options with the cake, filling, and icing goes- and give them an idea of how you want your cakes decorated. Ive had cupcakes that look super fancy or way detailed, but left more to be desired when it came to taste. Maybe not so fancy, but absolutely delicious!

I have to say they were absolutely amazing!!!! It was my first time because my daughter is getting older and she wanted a more elegant cake. She did not want a sheet cake but a tier cake and after reading the reviews and how long they have been in business and researching the website I made the decision to go for it. When I arrived at the store and walked in the associate (older lady i forgot her name, so sorry) was patient nice generous and accommodating. I told her what my daughter wanted gave me a price and it was out of my budget BUT she let me use her iPad so I could show her exactly what my daughter wanted. I mean was the sweetest person ever. I will definitely be using them in the future I am actually planning my second daughters 3rd birthday and i will be contacting them. Misspelled my sons name (Vincent) on his 1st birthday cake and shorted us more than 1/2 a dozen of cupcakes. We had ordered 5 dozen for his party, with three different flavors and were shorted the most popular one. I am not sure that I will be ordering from here again - you only have one 1st and unfortunately it was ruined.

I ordered a cake for my aunts baby shower this past Saturday. After reading some of the reviews I was really scared to continue with the order. When I went to pick up the cake it was beautiful and when we cut into it it was just perfect. I look forward to ordering from them again.

I tried to contact by the website email.. I never heard from anyone to this day. I than called multiple times with no answer. Finally!! I got through and someone answered. I was placed on hold for over 20 minutes before I hung up. I could just hear the person that answered having a conversation with someone else. All I wanted was to get a cake ordered.. So disappointing. Guess Karens cake business is good. No need to get further business.

I am still apprehensive about ordering another cake for ANY event, however their smaller baked goods (cookies and cupcakes), I have been a repeat customer for 3 years.Before reading any online reviews and having a few recommendations from friends who have used Cakes by Karen, I ordered my first cake for my daughters 1st birthday (this was back in 2015 - and by most current reviews, it doesnt look like much has changed).The two major issues I had with them (but said nothing because it was more hassle then what its worth) were 1 - A price hike of $25 and 2 - their product was DRY! Initially when I placed my order and showed the associate at Cakes by Karen an example (that look exactly like the cake pictured), I was told the cost would be between $60 - $80 (yeah, I know it sounds like a lot for birthday cake for a 1 year old) and after planing and discussing colors was quoted $75. The next day when I went to pay for my order, I spoke to a different associate who pulled up my order and told me it would be $100!!! REALLY? Look at the picture, $100 for that! Long story short, I just paid the $100.Thinking it would taste as good as the price, it was huge let down. I dont know if the person making the cake got the recipe wrong or if they used pre-made cakes that sat out for entered period of time.On the flip side of it all, the cupcakes and cookies seemed to be fresh (baked the same day or day before). I usually get a half dozen that I take to my board meetings and everybody seems to love them.

You made our day and helped ease the sadness of the celebration we had for our moms birthday who recently passed away. I cant thank you enough for all the hard work and effort you put into helping my sister and I make this celebration delicious.

I went to a bridal show today at the Westin Hotel downtown and Cakes by Karen had a booth. I sampled three or four different kinds of cake. Best cake Ive ever had. My mom was there with me with my flower girl and they sampled a piece or two and loved it. But it was the best cake Ive ever had. Will be talking to my fiancé about the pricing for our wedding cake and will definitely be getting a cake here sometime. Thank you Cakes by Karen.

I called to ask if they had a cake, the lady told me she had TWO! Drove all the way from PARKER (40+ minutes) got there and what she says is sorry I sold them! Really? I called and let her know I was on my way! You just lost a costumer! I used to like their cakes thats why I drove that much, NOT ANYMORE!

They have really good cookies for sale here, walk up style. Much better than the cookie store on Carr st.

After many photos and many discussions they completely botched my wedding cake. I asked for fall colors (and provided photos) and ended up with a 1980s neon mess. Thank goodness I have a sense of humor. I laughed when I saw it and then my guests laughed (apparently they had been discussing my interesting choice). The frosting was thicker than the cake, which was on the dry side. I emailed Cakes by Karen and made calls but never heard back from ANYONE. In my voicemail I did not request a refund but simply wanted an acknowledgement of the error and for the person (s) responsible to receive additional training.

Well I ordered a pug cake for a very special sister in law they said they could make it in 3 days I went to pick it up on Saturday I arrived and was so excited I seen the cake and it looked like a pig not a pug as I was expecting I had previously emailed a picture of what I wanted the pug was tan the cake was blue and white they said they could fix ix canceled the party Saturday went to pick it up Sunday and it was then yellow and green they offered a fifty dollar credit towards my next cake like I would go back haha had to go buy my own airbrush and fix it myself that costed me an extra hundred bucks but at least it came out tan like I wanted for being in business for 40 years I could of done a better job myself never again will I go here I cried and heart felt

We asked for a pug cake & they said they could do it just like the picture we emailed them but they charged us $50 extra dollars due to “a lot of details” so we said okay that’s fine because we thought they were able to do it like they agreed. We had to cancel the party because the cake was horrible, it looked nothing like a pug; more like a pig & it was blue. They asked us to come pick it up the next day so they can fix it, we agreed to it but the cake still looks horrible & still does not look like a pug. Karen argued with us telling us there is only so much you can do to a cake and that’s how it’s gonna be. She offered us a $50 credit for our next cake and we nicely asked to put it on this cake since we will not be coming back(the cake costed $150). Super dissapointed.

Cupcakes didn’t have the right colored frosting, didn’t have the right jelly flavor inside. Also everything just looked so unprofessional and rushed. Tried calling the store multiple times and can never get helped because the “manager isn’t in”

There are many cake flavors and fillings to choose from. The vanilla and chocolate buttercream is fantastically addicting!

It was just ok,price was to high for the quality,when I went In the shop it felt like a 1980 type shop everything seemed very old fashioned,the writing was horrible. I wouldnt go out of my way to buy or order cakes again.

They have made my sons birthday cakes & cup cakes for years and always do such a wonderful job with the decoration and they always taste great!

I have been a loyal customer of Cakes by Karen for 10 years, purchasing 3-5 cakes a year ~ cut out cakes, specialty cakes, etc. Today I picked up a cake for my 5 year old sons birthday and it was incorrect. This is the 4th time we have had a cake done incorrectly. They offered to redo the cake but there was no way for them to have the cake ready by our party time. They did not offer to refund the entire cost. They offered to refund half the cost of the cake if we took the incorrect cake or all if we refused the cake. We had no choice but to take the cake due to the time of our party. My son was upset that the cake he wanted was not ordered. Not only was the cake not made correctly, it was not moist. The woman at the store in Denver where we order has been wonderful the past ten years but the main store in Northglenn could careless if they make their customers happy. We will be shopping for our cakes at another local bakery.

I wanted a custom cake done for my sisters graduation and after all the reviews here and on Yelp, I was kind of hesitant to order a cake. Well after hours of searching for custom cake shops, this place was the only close one near my house, so I decided to go in and order my cake that I design. The workers were nice and since I provided a sketch of what I wanted, they said they could do it. I ordered a two tier cake, that could feed a party of 50. I believe the bottom was 10inch and the top was 6inch. This cake had sugar flowers, the schools logo, a name piped on and a graduation hat sitting on top (this cake looked like a wedding cake style). Well they charged me $195....lets just say that wasnt even the start of it. When I picked it up it looked good for a fast glance, the credit card machine was taking very slow so I got to analyze the cake. The piping on the name was HORRIBLE (shaky person whoever did it), the sugar flowers were not the color I wanted and it was just basic white flowers that did not look spectacular for the price I paid plus they just stabbed it in the cake, the graduation hat was not made from foundant like I like it to be..it was some dollar store plastic hat, and then the cake was like caving in so they tried to cover it with ribbon around it. Overall, the cake tasting itself wasnt great..I swear the Kingsoopers cake is better. I will not come back for another custom cake and refer others not to as well.

Its okay cake. I paid $30 and my cake slid all around and was crushed by the time I made it home. Flavorwise was okay. The cake was nice and fluffy and the icing was ok. For the price Id just as soon have Rheinlanders. Sorry Karen.

Overpriced and very generic looking cake! I ordered my daughters birthday cake and they completely disappointed! My wife and I gave them tons and tons of ideas to work with and they created a very boring and masculine looking cake! Could have got waaaaay better from the grocery store and for half the price! Cake tasted OK but all in all it was very ordinary and horribly decorated! Plus when I went in there to pick up my cake they acted like they had no clue what I was there to pick up! And there was another customer in the store complaining about what they messed up for there order! I dont recommend anyone go to them for their cakes! Save your money and just go to the grocery store!

When I placed an order and saw many customers reviews so I changed my mind immediately and called in same day to cancel the order. They told me NO REFUND...in store credit only. Excuse me...just pay me back of what I paid...theres nothing in the store that I wanted for an credit...cake store. Cmon. best if we go to Safeway, Walmart and or King Soopers. Give me my money back. They refused. so they told me my receipt is good for ONE YEAR.

Used Karens for a post-nuptial gathering. Cake ordered way before hand, and WOW it was dry and tasteless. Way overpriced for what you get. Go to Safeway or King Soopers...at least they would give you a refund.
