Hands down a top favorite place for our family. The whole smoked chicken is one of my favorites!! Thank you for always providing great service and wonderful food!

Excellent barbecue, friendly folks, no-frills restaurant. I travel the I-81 corridor all the time, and this will join my rotation of quick lunch spots. Lotsa meat, good variety of sauces (I really liked the hot one) -- perfect for the occasion

Food was very good! They followed the cdc guidelines and were very nice. The menu has a good variety of food at a great price! After ordering we got our food delivered in about 10 minutes. We ate outside and they brought it to us with no problems. Again the food tasted very good and Id certainly recommend due south BBQ to anyone passing by

Not a local, but assume this terrific joint is extremely popular with residents. Loved their signature Sweet Brown sauce, and whether pulled pork, ribs or chicken the meats were all top notch. Friendly staff and easily accessed off the highway, this is a must stop for travelers hankering for some tasty, unique vittles in an adorable shack!

Everything about this restaurant is good other than the high prices. You dont have to season anything. The buns are always fresh and soft.

Food wise this place is wonderful. The bbq was tender they had many sauces to choice from. The potatoe casserole was delicious like thanksgiving in a bowl. The fried potatoes was spicy if you are into that stuff you will enjoy. The place was clean the sitting inside was nice we didnt go to the outside part. I give 4 out of 5 stars because the staff seemed so unhappy🤷🏻‍♀️

Ribs were excellent. Sauces were ok, wish I could have had the same sauce on my pulled pork that was on the ribs. Staff was super friendly. Bathroom was clean and adorably decorated

This place might need some renovation on the exterior, but other than that, every aspect is just spot on. The ribs and pulled pork we order were juicy and tender. Their marinade is pleasant but not strong so that you can choose your favorite sauces out of 5 of their collections. Service is also good and fast.

Pretty nice place. Our food was served in less than 10 minutes. The ribs were a little hard to chew on, but overall very good experience.

Middle of the road BBQ place. We tried the jumbo brisket and jumbo pulled pork sandwiches - I wouldn’t describe them as jumbo by any means. I’d worry about the regular size based on the jumbo. They might only be appropriate for kids or those with small appetites.When I go for BBQ I am most interested in the sides. Together we sampled 6 sides and none really stood out. The employee taking our order said that the fries are frozen. If I had to pick I’d say the cole slaw was the best of the bunch.As for the other sides: the Mac n’ cheese was underwhelming - seemed like elbow noodles and some petroleum based cheese. No crusty cheese on top.The baked beans had a decent flavor but the main detractor was the lack of meat. I typically expect some BBQ meat to be present in my bean at BBQ joints. I’ve personally never had kidney beans in my BBQ baked beans either but overall they didn’t add or detract.I didn’t find any standouts among the sauces. They ketchup and mustard based sauces were runnier than I expected.Not a bad place to stop at if you are traveling along I-81. Easy access from the highway. Friendly staff. Clean restrooms. Average BBQ.

Brisket and pork bbq quite good. 5 sauce choices. Lots of seating - maybe 25 seats in the restaurant, plus a screened porch, outside picnic tables and a ‘pig pen’ air conditioned shed with another 30 seats or so ...Hush puppies, banana pudding, fried green tomatoes, sweet potato casserole were all great.

I was pretty disappointed with the BBQ here. I have a lot of BBQ experience and this place didnt measure up. The sauces were incredible and the pulled pork was good, but the chicken was too dry, the ham sandwich barely had ham on it, and the sides were unimpressive.

Good basic BBQ place. Saw the food service sign on I81 south. Easy to find. Pork BBQ was tender and favourable. Live country singer was an unexpected treat.

Couldn’t find a better place to have an authentic BBQ experience, after a long racing trip with my buddies we got to this place and the food, the service and the BBQ Sauce were amazing! Best way to find out is to try it.

Im from Kansas City, MO (home to the most well-known barbeque establishments in America) so, I find it hard for any BBQ restaurant in the country to compete with the likes of ours including: Gates, Arthur Bryants, Haywards, Kansas City Joes, Jack Stack, etc., but I was very impressed with Due South. Their food was tasty and their service was quick. I especially enjoyed the Hot Red and Sweet Brown sauces. Thank you!

Been meaning to eat here and finally got the chance. Wow, wish I had stopped in sooner! Absolutely amazing pulled pork barbecue. I mean juicy and seasoned, you really didnt need sauce but the sauce was so good too! The sides were also awesome and freshly prepared to order (for example, fried okra was freshly breaded and fried just for me). Cant wait to go back!!

Great food but I give four stars for prices being a bit steep

Food is on another level. Still got a little buzz from lunch. Got pulled pork and ribs combo. Pulled pork was perfectly smoked, went awesome with the Lexington sauce. Ribs were perfectly cooked as well, fall off the bone and tender. Had some sweet brown sauce on the side which was great, but had plenty of flavor without sauce. All the sides were great too- really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, and the hush puppies were a great way to bring it all together.

Meat is tasteless and barbecue sauces are just sugar or vinegar with no depth of flavor

Once again. Another state, another town that we had to try a local bbq place. We chose this place because it was a few blocks from where we were staying and the reviews were good, along with that fact that it is not a chain bbq place, but a small local business (which I think always have better food). Now to be fair we walked in probably ten minutes before they closed so I was not expecting the freshest food. We got the baby back ribs. Awesome flavor and I wish I couldve been able to try them early in the day when they were fresh. They have MANY sides, so of course we got the baked beans (have to have baked beans with bbq 😁) the banana bread pudding, and Mac and cheese. The meal came with hush puppies. Loved the flavor of the beans, my husband really liked the Mac and cheese..(it was ok, but Im picky about Mac and cheese.. Lol), the banana bread pudding was Soo good.. We thought the hush puppies were the best weve had.. They put LJS hush puppies to shame. However like I stated we walked in within a few minutes before closing so as I expected the food wasnt the freshest, however it was still good so like I said I wish we wouldve been there earlier in the day. Something here for everyone... Enjoy!

Great little place. Quick friendly service. Hole in the wall. Food was outstanding. Smoked meat and hush puppies, fried okra. Good selection of bbq sauces. A little on the expensive side for the serving size for lunch. I would go again for sure.

What a great discovery just off of the interstate. Their veggie plate was just what I needed, while others at my table had pulled pork sandwiches with the fantastic Lexington sauce. Highly recommended, and well return again when were in the area.

To say this place was even mediocre would be a stretch. Ive given the 2 stars because the restaurant was in good repair, restroom was clean, and staff was friendly.Now to the food, which is the part that matters most to me. The pulled pork was flavorless on its own, relatively tender, not exactly moist but not horribly dry. The mac and cheese was bland and lackluster in general. To top off the disappointment train that was this meal, banana pudding. Im definitely a dessert guy and I didnt even finish it. It was basically a bowl of merengue with a couple wafers on top. I couldnt find a lick of pudding nor a single bit of banana. From the look of this place when I pulled up I was rather excited but that vanished quickly when I started into the meal.

Best bqq I had on my trip in the states. The flavors of the pulled pork were amazing and the choice of sauces available was great. The Mac and cheese side dish was over cooked and lacked salt but their coleslaw is really good as a side. Great service too! Stop here if you would like to have a nice experience.

10/10, the meat comes right out of the smoker and onto your plate. So good, and the homemade sauces make it even better.

This place is fantastic!! This is the best Barbecue Food I have ever had!! I was on vacation in Virginia and Due South BBQ was recommended to me for lunch. The serviceand food were great!! I would give this more than 5 Stars!! My favorite was the Pulled Pork and the Sweet Tater Casserole!!

Beef brisket sandwich was delicious. Pulled pork sandwich was less spectacular, but still good. The hush puppies were fantastic!!! Fried okra was not good, smoked taters were pretty good-- but a bit too rich. Overall a good experience.

The food was AMAZING !!!Today was my first visit. I haven’t even heard of this gem before today. I was headed to Riner with 2 buddies to play golf when on of them suggested Due South. I am so glad they knew about it. I will certainly make the trip from Roanoke for more.

Great dinner here. Was heading from NY to Charlotte and stopped here for dinner. Quick and easy off the highway. BBQ was excellent as were the sides. It’s not easy to make great BBQ and this was a huge treat!

Pulled pork barbeque is the main option of the place. There are also some other southern style dishes. Not a fancy place, no alcoholic beverages sold, family friendly and inexpensive meals. Interesting place. I liked.

Generally a solid place for barbecue. Serves pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken with an abundance of sides. There is a regular menu and a lunch special menu. 6 different sauces at each table (my preference being the Sweet Brown and Hot Red), and a roll of paper towel. Seat yourself wherever, and head up to the register to order. Theyll give you a receipt and a yellow number, then bring your food to your table when its ready. Seating available indoors and outdoors, and on certain nights theres live music.My fav from them is their brisket and smoked taters, though my mom prefers the pulled pork. Both meats are coarsely chopped with some crispy bits and a little fat to up the flavor. Unfortunately the meat can sometimes be a little dry, depending on the day.

Nice, tender, ribs with a flavourful sweet sauce. Delicious stringy pulled pork(no chucks, positive for me possible negative for others). Came with some basic hushpuppies that were fine. Nothing I disliked, so 5 stars!

Check your bags, I ordered a bulk order and spent a pretty penny. Was told everything was in there including sauces and was missing items.Half my fault for not checking, but half theirs for not giving me what I ordered.

We stopped for dinner here in April, knowing we needed some food for our sons upcoming graduation from Virginia Tech. Lets just say all six of us had a great dinner and some live music to go with it! We got there ahead of the crowds of local folks dining in and taking out. Then, in May, I placed a bulk food order for our graduation party. Due South BBQ was easy to work with through the entire process and the food was great! We bought pulled pork, cole slaw and their delicious sauces. All five of the sauces are great and they cover the sweet, the hot as well as those who prefer the vinegary carolina sauce. I highly recommend Due South BBQ for dining in or for bulk ordering. They are not too far of Interstate 81.

Stopped in on our way home from a softball tournament. I had the brisket salad, my wife had the pulled pork salad, both are huge so that may be something to consider and my daughter had that pulled pork sandwich and loved it and the mac and cheese was delicious. Very satisfied will definitely be returning.

The meat is yummy! The smoked chicken & ribs were great! But the mac&cheese tastes, looks & feels exactly like stouffers you can buy at the grocery store. The sauces are ok but very thin & a little watery. My guys pulled pork sandwich was more bread than meat & was kinda dry. So he wasnt very happy with the portion size : / But like I said, the fresh meat was nice!

Terrible quality, we had 3 different sauces, all of which were terrible. We werent given 2 sides, and the food took about a half hour. Terrible quality, and terrible customer service. If people think this is quality BBQ, then they should leave this area, and expand their horizons. Nothing about this place was great, or even decent.

The pulled pork sandwich was rather basic with a basic bun and a small amount of meat. The meat flavor was pretty good but the meat itself was cold. It didnt seem like the Mac and cheese was homemade. I was not a fan of the coleslaw but it was ok. The ribs and chicken was very good but way over priced. This place has the potential to be amazing the meat was on point if they add a bit more effort on the sides and brighten the sandwich up. I did go mid day on a Monday I might of caught them at a bad time.

The company I work for has utilized Due Souths catering services for two years now. Both years everything has been terrific. The staff is very attentive and responsive to any changes to the order I needed and answering any questions I had.The food was amazing. We order Brisket Troughs and Pulled Pork troughs with a variety of sides, and they did not disappoint.We will definitely continue to place catering orders with Due South since both the food is delicious and the customer service is outstanding.Thank you!!!

Great food with a 20 min wait, but it was completely worth it. If youre traveling up I 81 and want genuine pit bbq this is where you need to be.

The brisket was cold. Not even a bit warm. Out of popular menu items. Asked for butter for the hush puppies and got a little piece of butter in a Togo container.

This place looks inviting. The updates on the outside dining is what got me to stop. I had to go inside to order then serve my own drink. I went to the Pig Pin/Stye to find my seat (very nice and cooler than inside). My food was brought to me and looked very good. With bluegrass playing in the background I dug in. The pork was tender but a little dry. Its served with extra sauces and they came in handy. I cleared my table when I was done and left. It was ok, but I probably wont go back for a while.

Dont actually depend on this place to have your Thanksgiving turkey ready even though they advertise that they will smoke one for you. Ordered in plenty of time earlier in the week but they cannot apparently read their own hand writing. So I guess my family will be eating rotisserie chicken from Kroger instead of a nice smoked turkey and ham.

This is one of the best restaurants weve been to in a long time. The place is cute, clean, and the food is excellent. Their sauces are superb. The sides are delicious and ample. We had 2 meals and are taking one home in its entirety plus half of the other. Well worth the money. We are only here for a few hours today and while my wife was out working on a project I drove around town. This restaurant had 4 278 people here, just kidding, and most of the others I saw had no more than half of the cars that I saw here. So we decided to give it a try and are sure glad that we did. Very nice manager.

Way to go Due South BBQ! Great service, staff was on top of the Covid clean and safe protocol, running curb side pick up and dine in too. I had the pulled pork and ribs with a side of Mac n cheese, oh yeah, hello taste buds! Afterwards, I listened to some live music in the pig pen! Great service, great food and great experience!

The staff here were super friendly and helpful. Prices were very reasonable and food was very good. Highly recommend this location, and come hungry.

Smoked than fried chicken half - yum

Amazing food. Amazing people. This would be the sole reason why I would drive 6 hours away from my home to come all the way down here to get a delicious pulled pork sandwich. They also have live entertainment that was spectacular. It really had a southern feel and a southern charm.

Always great food, sometimes great music too! Try the pork without any sauce and its still awesome. The banana pudding is even better, and the staff is always kind.

Not good! Very disappointed. Had the smoked ham and it was shriveled up and dry. The buns were upside down for some reason??? My wife got the smoked chicken salad and there was almost no chicken on it. Got $100 worth of food and thought it was average to below average. I had high hopes and was left underwhelmed.

The very best chicken in the bone that I have had. It is fried but not like breaded fried. It is crispy& seasoned to perfection. Total Yumminess. The cole slaw and sweet potato sweetness were nice sides.

We stopped on our way down south since Due South was right off 81. The whole family devoured the food. Everything was delicious. Even my super picky 4yr old ate everything on his plate. The brisket was amazing.

The BBQ itself had good flavor but it was served fairly cold. I was actually very disappointed in the Mac & cheese too - it tasted exactly like it came out of a Kraft box. Many of the sauces were syrupy sweet. I had high expectations for Due South BBQ & it just didn’t deliver, unfortunately.

Really solid barbecue! I stopped by here on the way back from North Carolina and ordered the chicken plate. I ended up getting two sides, green beans and the fried maters.The chicken was a little dry which is why I am docking a star. The sides were mostly good. The fried green tomatoes were out of this world good and I have eaten many fried green tomatoes, so I feel like I know a good one when I taste it.There are a lot of different barbecue sauces, from super vinegar-y Carolina barbecue to the more sweet variety. All were pretty solid.All in all a nice pitstop.

I try my best to see the good in every business, but being from the SOUTH and trying to eat BBQ from the north was an epic fail!! Everything is so under seasoned!! The only go thing was that the meat was tender!!

We ate there 08-14-20 I had Ribs and fries ribs were cold and fries had been warm up.on the way home I got sick and stayed in the bathroom all night. My husband got BQ sandwich and potatoes all greasy. Will not go back there .Price was too high for a hole in a wall place . Also got stuck in bathroom door knob was broken

Solid barbecue, affordable prices, and friendly staff. Not the best barbecue I’ve ever had in my life, but it was standard and did taste good. I’d come back and try the ribs next time. The barbecue brisket sandwich was yummy, always ask for Cole slaw on your barbecue sandwich!!Particularly enjoyed the jalepeno poppers 👏🏻

Very disappointed. We found this place 4 years ago while traveling and it was amazing. So good that I saved the location in my google account for the next time I was coming through. Today we came back and it was so different, the ribs were so dry and flavorless that I had to cut them with a knife like I would a steak and I drowned them in sauce for flavor. The sides lacked in flavor, and the sauces seemed watered down or something. I don’t know what happened but it’s not what it was 4 years ago, I didn’t even finish my meal.

Always great BBQ! The sides are wonderful! The staff is very helpful and polite. All you can eat Tuesday, pork or beef with sides. The sweet potato casserole and banana pudding are incredible! Thanks for a great dinner! Will be back!

Good food. Baby back ribs are my favorite. Green beans are special. Cole slaw is coarse cut. Sweet tea a tad bit sweet but dilutes with ice. Sauces are top shelf in flavor and taste.They added extra seating in the pig pen garage at the end of the lot and a few tables outside under umbrellas.My full rack of ribs was very messy, low fat and very large. Like 6-7 ribs. Cooked beautifully.Ive eaten here several times.

I stopped here to have lunch with a friend. The place has a nice atmosphere and the people were nice. My barbeque sandwich w good & I loved the fried green tomatoes. But my friend got the brisket and it was shredded not cut, he wasnt expecting that. But other than that it all had a great taste and there were plenty of sauces to choose from.

A bit expensive but the beef jumbo sandwich is a must try

First visit today while traveling. I had the pulled pork and it was too notch. Good selection of sauces, but my favorite was the one they say is their passive aggressive hot BBQ sauce. I wouldnt really call it hot, but it did have a nice little nip to it.

Very good BBQ. Clean establishment and feel very welcome when you come inside. The atmosphere is very relaxing and not overwhelming. It is by far the best BBQ in the area. I will definitely come here again!

The food here was absolutely delicious! The BBQ pork was not too dry and not too moist. It was cooked absolutely perfect. The mac and cheese was also very good and the green beans had a smoke flavor which made them a very good side choice. I will also add that this restaurant has a wide range of BBQ sauce flavors to choose from which are ready and available at each table. Thats right, no lines to get your favorite taste of BBQ! The atmosphere had an amazing southern feel to it. I ate inside the the pig pin on a beautiful day and it was absolutely amazing. $30 fed four of us. The price is unbeatable.

Very disappointed Due South doesn’t offer any reasonable bulk meat for dine-in purchase, such as a pound of pulled pork or more. According to the options given to me by the staff, I would have to pay around $30 for a pound of pulled to eat inside, as well as get a bunch of sides I did not want.I’ve been to over 50 BBQ restaurants in 15 different states and this is the first place where this has been a problem.The food itself was pretty good. Definitely not close to the top, but not near the bottom. The real reason for the 2* review is the ridiculousness of the pricing and options available for dine-in only.The fact Mission BBQ would be a cheaper option, while providing more food for what I was looking for, is insane.
