I originally brought in my electric guitar for some conductive shielding service because it would constantly hum. He noticed it also needs a setup so I figured why not since it isnt that expensive.Well I am amazed how much easier it is to play. There were some songs I struggled with but now with this setup its a cinch. And the conductive shielding work eliminated the hum.Amazing work!

I started taking my instruments to Artisan Luthiers when I inherited a 1983 Fender P Bass. I brought it in for a setup and fret work. Jim was extremely professional and told me exactly what was needed to get the bass back in playing shape! He was honest and fair with his prices, and didn’t suggest unnecessary work! From that first interaction, I knew that Artisan Luthiers would get my business from now on. They have since worked on two other projects for me, and I’ve been more than pleased each time.If you need dependable, great quality work done on your interest at a fair price, look no further than Artisan Luthiers!!

Jim Hobson is a fantastic luthier. He’s got a lot of experience and is very personable and easy to work with. I didn’t have to work very hard to express to him the set up feel I was going for; all he had to do was watch me play and he just knew.I’ve got Gibson, Fender, & Yamaha guitar – doesn’t matter. He knows how to set it up and get it to play like a dream. If you need some repair work or modification or improvement on a guitar, I can’t recommend Artisan highly enough. Next time I need one of mine repaired, Jim Hobson is the guy I’ll call.

Jim was super profesional throughout the entire process. I took a 12 string takamine for a requinto setup since he was the only luthier I knew that would work with that setup. The price was more than reasonable and he left the guitar looking better than new. If you are in the Atlanta area and need any guitar setup, especially a requinto setup, please stop by. You will be satisfied.

All I can say is Wow!! Jim and his crew are truly amazing craftsmen. Service and quality of work was superb. My daughter and I presented Jim with three acoustic guitars. Each needing extremely detailed enhancements along with set ups. One of these, an old Hofner acoustic I bought in Germany in 1978, went around the world with me during my military career, endured months of desert sand during Desert Storm, survived the South Georgia 500 year flood of 1994, where it was fully submerged for about two weeks, and 20+ years of storage in my attic. Jim and crew brought this treasure back to life and it plays and sounds better now than ever before. My old friend, has returned. Thank you Jim. I’m forever in your debt.

I took my brand new guitar to get a basic setup, when I got it back I noticed some gloss spots on the black satin finish ( which was flawless), obviously someone tried to buff out some scratches or strains that were made . I am very upset as to how this could happen, and how you could not cover the body and finish, to avoid any scratches or staining. Its a suddle cover up, but its absolutely unmistakable on a brand new guitar with a satin finish. I left this company a voicemail to call me back, but no response. All I said in the message was that I had a question about the guitar, so they know exactly why Im calling . I DO NOT recommend this company to fix your guitar unless you bought it at a pawn shop for $100.

Ive had my Taylor 414ce for about 5yrs now and have never had it serviced by anyone. A few weeks ago, I noticed some of the warmth that I loved about this guitar start to subside and figured this was a good time to try a professional setup.Ill be honest, I was nervous leaving my guitar with someone Ive never met. Jim and I talked about the issues I was having, and he walked me through everything he would be doing in the process. His guarantee was that my guitar would sound noticeably different. He did not lie.My guitar sounds as good as the day I bought it.I really appreciate your help Jim. Will definitely be back!

Awful Service.I called to ask how they do their work, got the appointment after sending them my guitar. I just needed a setup, I was supposed to get it back on Wednesday which was 5 days away. I didnt get any answer that day, so I called next day, they were supposed to tell me that friday if it was going to be ready on Saturday, that Saturday I didnt get any answer back to at least let me know the current status of my guitar. So, I decided to pick it up, and still had to pay a 20 usd fee for a knob collet repair that I explained them myself how to get it off and it still doesnt work well. Lost my time, spent gas and still had to pay a 20 bucks for nothing.Just took me 20 min do all the setup by myself. Extremely dissapointed.

So I found this business through Google a while back and took an unnamed Les Paul style guitar up to Jim and it was in decent shape when I brought it in, but it definitely needed some serious attention. The guitar was free to me but you could tell it was a lower end guitar. By the time I got it back I was blown away! He had that thing playing like a $1000 guitar and I knew that there’s no one else I’d trust to work on my guitars. Well let me tell you it was definitely NOT a fluke! I dropped off my grandfather’s Fender Strat Vintage Reissue for a setup and it plays like a dream! This man is the only person in Georgia who should touch your guitar besides you. Very friendly and knowledgeable and just a pleasure to work with all around. I can’t recommend enough! Id be willing to bet that he will exceed expectations with any task you bring to him regarding your instrument. Matter of fact I made a gmail account just to be able to review this business. Ive had my Ibanez Gio Bass for over 8 years and never had set it up. I also had a Jackson Minion (over 2 years) that had massive intonation problems. Little did I know that I was fighting them while learning that fight (taking some of the fun out of playing). The Jackson was put into outstanding working order too. Jim not only took that fight out; both actually seem that they have more depth and punch. The bass seems to have more kick (with active pickups turned down) as it did with them turn all the way up. While I have learn to be more delicate with the bass, that is easy to learn. It looks great and sounds awesome.Jim definitely does a great job! Thank you.

Artisan did a fantastic job with the two guitars I dropped off.1. A martin that had loose binding and needed a set up. I knew this was a great guitar but didnt feel like i was getting the best out of it. After they did their setup on it I can feel the difference in play-ability and the binding is returned to the state it left the factory (maybe better).2. I gave them an old Harmony archtop that my great uncle got out of the trash and glued together. it was essentially impossible to play before I dropped it off. They sanded down the floating bridge, cleaned and greased the tuners, and repaired a crack on the body. This guitar now plays wonderfully. I was very surprised at how well it played as I half expected them to refuse to work on it based on its condition.I will now look first to Artisan luthiers for any guitar work as they have proven to be great craftsmen with reasonable pricing.-Zac

Jim was very nice and easy to work with. I had a 53 year old classical guitar that had the bridge come off the body. This guitar was my first guitar I had as a kid 53 years ago and was the guitar my daughter loved to play on when she was a kid 13 years ago. So this guitar has a lot of sentimental value to us. I had tried to glue the bridge back with expoy and had the glue run out of the bridge all over the body making it an ugly mess. Jim took this impossible looking repair and was able to remove all the expoy from the body and resent the bridge. He went way past the initial repair and had the intonation corrected and respray the the top. He also dress and clean the frets and fret board. He also stayed with the original price quote even though he did all this extra work because he felt that this guitar had so much sentimental value to my daughter. You dont get this kind of service from most businesses today but Jim is not like most businesses he a really nice guy to work with and Im going to have him setup my 1982 RI 57 Strat soon .
