Unfortunately my experience wasn’t as good as I’ve heard from others. While I was test driving a car it was transferred to another location (in their system), I had decided to purchase the vehicle and when I got back and started the paperwork process I was told, that the car was going to be transferred, so a potential buyer can look at it. The fact that I can be physically in one of their cars and starting paperwork (a sure thing) and it can be transferred so someone can look at it, is not a strong policy on their part. And I was given a simple, “bad news, sorry”I purchased a car, that had been in an accident and the car was not appropriately fixed. The undercarriage isn’t correct, there is over spray from the paint job and the hood doesn’t line up the same on both sides, just to name a few things. When I got my first car wash, a dent/scratches from a minor accident was uncovered. The car should have never been sold like this. This was not visible until the car wash, and again was not appropriately fixed. The Jeep dealer uncovered all of these things, from one quick overall of the car. CarMax should have found these things and properly fixed them before it was sold. It was obviously not throughly inspected, something they claim. I have only been driving the car for under two months (haven’t added very many miles), and there are already several mechanical issue that aren’t covered under the warranty (for example break pads) In short, it is my experience that the cars are not held to the standard that is advertised.

Overall great process. On-line experience, customer service upon my initial visit was great. I had a consultation where a greeter inspected my car and gave me an updated quote (same as on-line). However, the back end process took longer than expected. With that same visit the wait time to begin the paperwork was too long and I had to leave. I came back that evening, even longer. I simply dont have a lot of time to sit and wait. I settled it by coming back on Monday during a long business call where I knew I could sit and wait while on the call. So for that reason of having to wait I was disappointed. But overall, I was pleased with the business model and process. I do it again, but maybe a rainy evening on the second 2nd Tuesday of the month :)

I already did the online appraisal for my car before I brought my car to CarMax in Irvine. Its a huge branch. Karen initiated the paperwork, she was friendly. The entire process from inspection and receiving the check took about one hour and 40 minutes. My experience with this branch was great, its just that their business office took a bit too long to complete the deal and issue the check.

CarMax was super helpful throughout the whole time I was there. As a first time buying my car, they walked me through everything. I got a car that I love, I knew that as soon as I saw it. When I got there Jasmine who inspects cars showed me where the sedans were. I walked through the lot and one of the last cars I saw I instantly liked. From there James Campos helped us out with the paperwork. We left the car there for a few days while we waited for everything to be processed, and then the last person that helped us was Mario. All three were super friendly and of great assistance. CarMax is definitely a great place to buy a car, I cannot complain about anything.

The ease of selling one’s car is offset by the manner in which the cashier’s act. After five hours we were told we needed to bring cash or a cashiers check. There was no discussion of this prior and no notices posted to alert you that this is the requirement. So much could have been helped if this tiniest bit of communication by mouth or poster was available. One and done experience for me.

My experience at CarMax Irvine was awesome! From start to finish the entire process was seamless! I was helped by Fred and he was very kind and made the process easy. Due to getting rear ended on the freeway in my 2006 Scion xB and the xB being deemed a total loss I had to shop for a new car. I looked at many cars, Camrys, xBs, Corollas, Sentras, etc both used and new and went to brand named dealers and used lots. It was suggested to me to check out Car Max because of their customer service and certified vehicles. I looked on their website and saw several xBs including this 2012. I called to verify it was available then went down for a test drive at the Car Max in Irvine Ca.. I was handed over to Irina to be my sales rep. We sat down and discussed the car and she brought it up for me to look at. After examining the car we sat back down and she informed me of the 24hr test drive option and the 30day money back guaranty. I told her i was interested in the car and she arranged for me to take it home for the 24hr test drive. She did a credit app over the phone and I was approved by several banks. I had to wait a couple of days for my AAA check to clear. I brought my wife with me a couple of days later and asked if she could be added to the loan and Irina said no problem. She redid the app and and we proceeded to add the xB onto our insurance then she took us over to the finance department to sign the purchase contract and all needed paperwork. The finance rep turned out to be my wifes former schoolmate, Angela, and that made what usually is a mundane process lighthearted and pleasant. My wife had to leave so Angela and I finished up the paperwork. Irina came back over to deliver the car to me and she took the delivery pictures for me. She asked if I had any last questions before driving off then handed me the keys. She congratulated me then wished me the best with the new car. She texted me almost a week later to check on how I liked the new xB and wanted to make sure everything was ok with it. Very professional and awesome customer service! I would definitely recommend Car Max, specifically the Car Max in Irvine Ca., for the best car shopping and purchase experience possible! Great Job Car Max!

Terrible customer service! I arranged a car transferred from another location, which did arrived on time. First they scheduled our viewing appointment and then want to re-schedule due to short staff. When I return their call on confirming new appointment, a male customer service rep actually told me that they cant, and thats CarMax for you and hung up. To my disbelief, I called back to find out more, no one answered or return my multiple calls, especially I left a message for the manager. All I received in the email is that my car on hold has been released because I didnt show up to my appointment. What a disappointment!

First and foremost, Patrick who helps with the servicing/fixing of cars is a superstar. I’ve been on a whirlwind of a journey for an entire month after being in an accident that totaled my car. I bought a car from Carmax up in the Bay Area and drove it to Irvine for repairs. I needed a simple windshield replacement, new paint on my bumper, and a few dents removed from the doors. After an entire month of being emotionally and mentally exhausted from the accident, Patrick’s hospitality and customer service was a breath of fresh air for me. He was so communicative the entire time and truly wanted nothing but the best for his customers. He made this entire experience of fixing my car so easy and simple. I loved working with him, and if anything happens to my new car I’m 100% going back to see Patrick.

The proposal process was quick and easy and I was pleasantly surprised with the offer received. It was late in the day so I was advised to return another day around 10am. I did that and had to wait 3 hours to be processed by a finance rep. The final paperwork process was easy and fast. My rep. was very friendly and efficient. The 3 hour wait was the only negative.

Kevin in Irvin location assisted us and was so down to earth and we felt he was genuine. Every question was answered and the process (thou loooooong cause apparently they were busy as hell) we left very happy. They even added a yellow bow on the car after they did the works of cleaning it. I cried out of happiness because in movies/TV Ive always seen that and have always wanted that special touch. Fred was amazing! The process was smooth and seamless. They even sent the car back to the detailing department to get a stain out of the seat. The one thing I would recommend improvement is there was a lot of wait time between the hand off between sales and actually signing the contract. Other than that I would highly recommend CarMax.

Was truly my first time buying a car without any stress or dealing with any of the back and forth between sales person, manager, finance person and all of the unnecessary up selling. I was able to find the car of my choice online, transfer it to the Carmax location of my choice. Come in at the appointment time that was scheduled, sit with the Carmax associate provide the information of my transaction details and leave with the vehicle I wanted. Everything was as simple, easy, and stress free. I would recommend doing everything in advance from home then come in prepared to finalize the transaction.

The worst sales people on the planet exist at this store.I spent 2 days in a row here to look at 1 car I was interested in on the lot. I made an appointment to come back because of my busy work schedule, I still waited 40 min after my appointment time to even be greeted by someone. That was just the beginning.I was told I would receive a call prior to my appointment to confirm this car was available because they weren’t seeing it in their stock on their computers. I never received that call and again took time to go down there, wait 40 min, wait a few more, to be told this car was being held for someone to test drive even though it has a “hold sticker” on it that expired 3 days ago.All I needed was to look at a car, confirm I liked it, and purchase it with a DECENT payment in cash up front. It has never been so hard to buy a car in my life. These sales people couldn’t sell water to a fish.

Definitely giving this location 5 stars! After going to several other dealerships (not CarMaxs), I landed here!Flawless experience from start to finish. Had an appointment at 1pm, I came a little early to look at the lot, found exactly what I wanted and at the price range that I hoped for! Came back inside to let someone know and my sales rep Niki was already calling my phone right at 1pm to let me know she was ready! Niki was friendly, knowledgeable, professional and overall excellent. She had answers for all my questions, she speedily got me through the finance process (it took me longer to reach my insurance company over the phone than for her to get my application done and approved). She educated me on all the options for the CarMax Care Warranty and was fully honest on what I needed and might not need - she let me decide what was best for me. She never tried to over sale me or leave details out - it was full transparency.I arrived a few minutes before 1pm and I was driving off in my new beautiful car by 2:45pm (I’ve spent more time in a nail salon!) I still have 30 days to decide if I want to return the car if I don’t love it but I honestly don’t see that happening. I highly recommend this CarMax location - DEFINITELY ask for Niki when you schedule your appointment!

Bought BMW from CarMax. Love the car! Pros: good price, sales process was smooth, efficient and friendly; attractive financing options, by the way. CarMax sure does a lot to ensure complete satisfaction with the purchase. Cons: had the car transferred from WA to SoCal. Compared to market the transfer was expensive, superslow (weeks ..) and opaque on progress. Car managed to accumulate a few hundred additional miles in the process. Would probably not consider transfer again, maybe just buy local.

Literally walked in and knew Kwesi would be my salesman. White Prius V 5. Didnt have what I wanted but he found one in Reno. By the time I arrived to see it, he had it immaculately cleaned and ready for me. I was out the door within an hour, and covid-safe with masks, behind screens, etc. He even told me Enterprise rental car could come pick up my rental from Carmax instead of me driving it back to LAX! LOVE my new Prius. Kwesi was great and delivered what I wanted as promised. Even though my Prius is a 2012, it is in MINT condition.

Selling our car at CarMax was easy, relatively fast and most importantly they offered a fair figure. The guy who handled our final sales paperwork was friendly and very efficient he was clearly seasoned in this process. I would absolutely use CarMax again to appraise abs sell my future cars.The actual appraisal was smooth they went over the car and she was extremely friendly and would even answer my random questions what things are they looking for and what makes real impact on the value etc. the only problem with this process is that you need to be next to your car in the boiling sun (COVID fault not CarMax)Why only 4 stars? The initial contact who took our information (oldish guy) was rude, he would bark orders (requesting information) then write the information down wrong but blamed me for the error ... Everyone was friendly, helpful and communicative. I had a bit of a wait because it was bustling on Saturday around noon. My expected wait time of 1 hour was surprisingly accurate, and once my turn came up, I sold my 2-year old car super quick. Like, equity check in hand within 15 minutes.Not to mention their offer beat every dealership by 15-20%. Couldnt be happier! Also their phone support was very helpful as well. (Not specific to this location, but part of the overall transaction.)

However the wait time to sign final paperwork was terrible as we were not quoted even close to accurate wait time by the office. We were told 30 minutes when it actually took 2 hours. I transferred a car from Northern California to Irvine. They told me my car was ready, so I made an appointment to go see it. After 2 hours of waiting and no one checked if the car I am waiting for is there they told me the car is not ready. I had ubered there and didnt even have a ride home. So, I dont know if this is bad service or just bad luck, but either way that was an unpleasant experience. James the sales guy was nice though. I just wished they had communicated with me better. You would think since this is CarMax and their cars are comparatively expensive, they would treat customers better.

Worst car buying experience, Ive had. We agreed to pay 40k after all the bells and whistles. It took them 2 hours just to print up the documents to sign. Which literally only takes 5 minutes to do. (The sign is the most important part of a sale) They told us the manager gave them the green light to rescheduled two appraisals ahead of us and to wait.At that point our patience was gone. We then told the customer service center to get us some help. The older lady in glasses told us if we didnt want to wait we could leave and pointed to the door.( I had to calm my brother from leaving after that). The heavy set gentlemen in HR stormed off in a rage because we dared ask them to get us the paperwork to sign.JR might have saved this sale from the rest of his staff doing everything in their power to sabotage it.I think the next step is to file a compliant with corporate.

He deals with the initial consultation, two other people quickly assess the car and the process continued with Craig. The process was pleasant, personable yet professional!We were turning in an older Prius that we just have not had the time to sell privately… So yes, we probably could have gotten a few hundred more or higher but it was nice to wrap the process up quickly and not have to worry about paperwork between parties.Also dealt with Daisy for the final paperwork and pay out - she was professional, kind and efficient with the process.It was our first time using CarMax and we would use them again and recommend. I was very disappointed in the way the inspectors at CarMax examined my vehicle and the non-professional manner in the way they communicated. Not to mention the fact that their appraisal offer came in at $1,200 and I was given a counter offer by a Honda dealership in RSM at $1,944. A difference of $744. It is clear to me going to CarMax to trade or even try to sale your car would be a big financial mistake. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

I decided to look for a low mileage Honda compact vehicle during the height of the scarcity of such cars due to the microchip deficiency among car makers. I realized I’d be paying more, but since my old vehicle had been disposed of, I needed a vehicle.After a short wait I met a salesman named JR. He listened to what I asked him to try to find, and within half an hour I’d found a suitable car. I realized it was overpriced compared to similar cars of six months prior but the new shortage dictated that I should move forward in buying it.I bought a 2018 Honda Fit EX and added an extended warranty. Mileage was 22,800. Total cost including tax, license and warranty was just over $25,000.JR and the Carmax staff are friendly and efficient and there was no sales pressure.

Lots of good inventory. Came back and was told to wait in a line that was 10+ people long. It was a bunch of guys paying for the cars they bought at the dealer auction. Finally they split us up between customers and dealer and told us it would be an hour wait and then 30 minutes or so to complete the sale. I didnt have that much time so I went home and sold it for more to an online service that came and picked up the car the next day. I drove up to Carmax because I thought it would be a fast seamless experience, but that just wasnt the case.

Terrible communication and customer service. Ive been given the runaround between departments, had calls disconnected randomly, and been told someone will call me back, but nobody does. Ive spent more than an hour today just trying to get the status on my car. I still have no idea whats going on.

This is your saving grace to spare you the headache & future regretful decision.. do NOT purchase from this location, or from any CarMax for that matter. Ive had an IMMENSE headache dealing with this location and had an extremely overall poor experience/customer service with them as what they did was extremely unethical.It wasnt until after I purchased my car that day, I discovered the windshield had a crack on the glass, towards the drivers seat. I looked back on my photos during my initial test-drive (luckily I took a few) and noticed the crack was not visible because a sticker was thoughtfully placed directly ON the crack, concealing the crack/damage. The sticker was removed AFTER I purchased the car, and I noticed the crack as I was driving the car home. Had I seen this, I certainly would NOT have made the decision to invest or purchase this luxury car (not an inexpensive purchase).Here’s how the head-throbbing process went:I notified the manager at the Irvine location and he advised to take it in to CarMax service to fix (was a different location that’s closer to me). I had to take time off of work, take the car to a CarMax service repair, only to find that I needed a formal repair order-request placed from the Irvine branch - in order for another CarMax location to replace the windshield - and thats IF its even approved to get the windshield replaced (initially they were planning to only apply resin to alleviate cracked glass - which meant that the crack would still be visible). However, why would I make such a large purchase on a LUXURY car, only to have a crack visible on the windshield, not logical. So I attempted to reach the sales rep and the manager in Irvine multiple times (emails and calls) to request them to place a repair order. No response. Even the other CarMax Service Repair tried to reach them, and no response.A few anxiety-inducing days later, I attempted to reach the Irvine CarMax again, and finally got through to another manager, Jeremy. I logically explained the issue to him and told him I understand that this issue was not at the fault or hands of him, but wanted him to understand how upsetting & extremely stressful this is for a customer who just made a large investment/purchase - and he passively (and apathetically) replied with, “right...” and did not once apologize at all for the inconvenience throughout our entire conversation. Really? This is your customer service response as a Sales Manager? His response was that they dont intentionally try to conceal the cracks on their cars ..however, they definitely made it apparent that they didnt want the customer to see the crack.. I did, however, get my full refund back when I returned the car (thank goodness). Although, in conclusion, their unethical actions caused a series of headaches for me. I implore you to save yourself the headache and do not buy from them. I’m certainly relaying the full experience & info to anyone I know whos looking to buy a car, because this was not worth it.

Carmax would only give me $500 for my car stating it was not sell-able and would only be used for parts and pieces. Well, for the past year and 1/2 I have received 3 parking tickets and 2 toll road violations. So, clearly they sold my car in one piece along with my license plate. I have called and emailed Carmax and they have done nothing. I have had to send my bill of sale to both the toll roads and parking citation center on numerous occasions. Not sure why they have not cleared this as I m no longer the owner of the vehicle. Not a happy customer.

The process was super quick. I found what I wanted, did all the pre-approval and application stuff online. The next day went in, went over terms and was driving away in my new car within an hour and some change. Of course everyone was pleasant and helpful, they even put the signature bow on my car and offered to be my photographer while I excitedly posed with my new purchase. Definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made to date.

I had a Great Experience. I had a early Saturday morning appointment time, I only waited approximately 5 Minutes until they looked at my vehicle and another 15 Minutes to obtain the appraisal report and another 30 Minutes to complete the sale. All in all, in and out in less than an hour.

Overall, very good experience. The only detractor was slightly long wait to redeem my online quote for sale of my car - I ended up waiting approximately 90 minutes, and some other people told me they were waiting for 2 hours. Other than that, the process was transparent and seamless.

I had the best car buying experience ever at Car Max. They made car buying easy and were very professional and courteous. I test drove several cars and then finally purchased, working with Sales Consultant Cat Hendsch and I would highly recommend her. The whole experience was so much better than all the buying experiences I have had in the last 50 years! When i get another car...I will go back to Car Max!
